Helen L. Hahn
KEEDYSVILLE - Helen Louise Hahn, 78, of 3611 Trego Mountain Road, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1919, in Yarrowsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late William E. and Edna M. Holmes Badger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Hahn Sr., in 1992.
She worked as a cook in area restaurants and nursing homes, retiring from Earl's Restaurant formerly in Boonsboro.
She was known as the "Strawberry Lady" for her sales of strawberries.
She was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty J. Root of Keedysville; three sons, Charles T. "Pumpkin" Hahn Jr. of Frederick, Md., Robert Eugene Hahn Sr. of Keedysville and Richard Lee Hahn of Brownsville, Md.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William T. Badger.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Brownsville. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brownsville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
Vernon E. Grim
MOUNT RAINIER, Md. - Vernon Everett Grim, 73, of Mount Rainier, and formerly of Dargan, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Laurel Regional Hospital, Laurel, Md.
Born Aug. 17, 1924, in Dargan, he was the son of the late Marvin Arthur and Sarah McGowan Grim.
He was a retired employee with Electro Therm at Laurel; and most recently worked at College Park Fair Lanes at College Park, Md.
He is survived by four sisters, Patsy Ferguson of Mount Rainier, Armatha Grim of Hagerstown, Doris Bressler of Raleigh, N.C., and Delores MacGillivray of Boston; two brothers, Thurston Grim of Dargan and Dallas Grim of Baltimore; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. James R. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery, Samples Manor, Md.
The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances A. Thumma
Frances "Poky" Ann Thumma, 77, of 13223 Fairfax Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 12, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Fred W. and Mildred Mabel St. John Cruickshanks.
She was a graduate of Hagerstown Business College.
She was employed as a secretary with the Prosecutor's Office in Hagerstown following her graduation.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
She was a member of Women's Club; and a former member of Beaver Creek Country Club.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Frederick Thumma Jr.; one daughter, Carol A. Stouffer of Hagerstown; two sisters, Barbara Athey of York, Pa., and Roberta Kappel of Fallston, Md.; three granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one son, Alvin Frederick Thumma III; and two sisters, Nancy Hembree and Jean Parker.
Memorial services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown. Pastor Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Zina E. Moody
Services for Zina Eileen "Pat" Moody, 43, of 222 Jonathan St., Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, will be Monday, March 16, at noon at Zion Baptist Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Haru Carter will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Violet M. Wheeler
Violet May Wheeler, 89, of 11906 Pheasant Trail, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 28, 1909, in Fayette County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Violet Pryor Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Wheeler, in 1989.
She attended Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Wood of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald L. Criss; two sisters, Margaret Hagan and Irene Mahoney; and three brothers, Emmette Carroll, George Carroll and Andrew Carroll.
Services will be Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward G. Zehr
Edward George Zehr, 91, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 20, 1906, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward Albert and Anna Regina Beck Zehr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Christine Zehr, in 1991.
He was a graduate of City College of New York.
He retired after 37 years as treasurer/foreign credit manager for Sulphur Export Corp.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he had formerly served on the church council.
He also was a member of Elks Lodge 378; Masonic Friendship Lodge 84 AF&AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forrest 95; Ali Ghan Temple of Cumberland; Kentucky Colonels; Hagerstown Shrine Club; York & Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; Sayara Unit of Ali Ghan; Hillbillies Clan 42; Potomac Fish & Game Club; Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro; and civic activities.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Zehr David of Hagerstown; and one grandson, Mark Zehr Orr of Washington, D.C.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Florence.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward W. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. N., Hagerstown. A Masonic service will be conducted Monday at 8:15 p.m. and an Elks service will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gilbert H. Shawyer
SHARPSBURG - Gilbert Hildon Shawyer, 72, of 7042 Tommytown Road, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at his home.
Born in Dargan, Md., he was the son of the late Julian Herman and Lottie Mable Grimm Shawyer.
He was a construction worker for Blue Mountain Construction, retiring in 1980.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Williamsport American Legion Post 202; and Thursday Morning Breakfast Club for CB'rs.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Jean Paul Shawyer; three daughters, Margie A. Eller of Hagerstown, Sherry J. Funk of Chambersburg, Pa., and Joyce M. Funk of Keedysville; four sons, Dennis R. Shawyer, Richard A. Shawyer and Timothy W. Shawyer, all of Hagerstown and Garie E. Shawyer of Boonsboro; one sister, Margaret Toms of Middletown, Md.; two brothers, Granvil Shawyer of Baltimore and Glenn Shawyer of Hagerstown; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John G. Shawyer Sr. and Julian L. Shawyer; two sisters, Doris Shawyer and Agatha Knepper; and two brothers, Leland Shawyer and Austin Shawyer.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, with graveside military services conducted by Morris Frock Post 42 of Hagerstown. The Rev. Blaine Feightner and the Rev. Richard G. Hembrock will officiate.
The viewing will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open Monday after 9 a.m.

Phyllis A. Ford
Phyllis Arlene Ford, 78, formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 19, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Lester and Bertha Grace Shamberger Snyder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Ford Sr., in 1992.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
She was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club.
She is survived by one son, Robert H. Ford Jr. of Hagerstown; one grandson, Robert D. Ford of Palmyra, Pa.; and three sisters, Margaret Louis and Ethel Miller, both of Hagerstown and Judy Alloway of Greencastle, Pa.
She was preceded in death by one son, John Chaney; two sisters, Virginia Hess and Doris Itnyer; and one brother, Russell Snyder.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Ida S. Pasquariello
BRICK, N.J. - Ida S. Sarcone Pasquariello, of Brick; and formerly of Asbury Park, N.J., and South Orange, N.J., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Montefoiore Medical Center, Bronx, N.Y.
She was born in Bloomfield, N.J.
She graduated from Columbus Hospital School of Nursing, as a registered nurse.
She was employed with St. Vincent's Hospital, Montclair, N.J. She also owned and operated Monroe Mill Outlet for Yarn and Needle Crafts, Belmar, N.J., established in 1976.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park, N.J.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America; AARP; and a volunteer and supporter of handicraft projects at Jersey Shore Medical Center and Ct. St. Elizabeth C.D.A. 1486.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carmine V. Pasquariello; four children, Angela M. Cariddo of Brick, Richard C. Pasquariello of Hagerstown, Elizabeth P. Aziz of Hagerstown and Phyllis A. Marberry of Fair Haven, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park. Entombment will be in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Wall Township, N.J.
Visitation will be Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Paul A. McDonough Funeral Home, 304 Eighth Ave., Belmar, N.J.
