June 12, 2000

Richard Barry Hammond of Stevensville, MD. Died suddenly on June 12, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, MD.

He was Born on September 23, 1943 in New Orleans, LA. The son of the late Richard Norman and Anna Maria Moltz Hammond. He was a graduate of Severna Park High School. He graduated from Anne Arundel Community College and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, he served four years and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.

Returning home and graduating from University of Maryland College Park he received his bachelors of Science degree in business administration. He began his career in sales working for Wrightline as a furniture salesman. In 1980 he established and operated Datastor Inc. in Crofton, MD. He was a member of the Kent Island Lions Club, Kent Island United Methodist Church where he was very active in the men’s breakfast, the nominating committee and many other church activities. Mr. Hammond also enjoyed riding his Harley, the Caribbean Islands, Kent Island, his boat, collecting Depression Glass and his family and friends.

He is survived by a son Richard Charles Hammond and daughter in law Jessica L. of Annapolis, MD. a daughter Marie Elise Hammond Morris and son in law Robert Kenard of Stevensville, MD. A brother Carl Jeffery Atkinson of Arnold, MD. and a sister Janice Huss of Arnold, MD. and three grandchildren Richard Zachary, Justin Kennard and Marissa Camille Morris.

Funeral Services will be held 11am Friday June 16th, 2000 at the Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester, MD. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday June 15, 2000 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.

The family request that the memorial contributions be made to the Providence Center, Inc. 877 Baltimore Annapolis Bvld. Severna Park, MD. 21146 or to the Kent Island United Methodist Church P.O. 308 Chester, MD. 21619.

Thomas Leonard Krauth, of Easton, died at The Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD on Monday, June 12, 2000.

Born in Eminence, Kentucky he was the son of Oliver Charles and Lillian Weaurton Krauth. After graduating from Eminence High School he attended Georgia Tech. Mr. Krauth was a Service Manager at Western Electric in Union, New Jersey for 46 years until his retirement in 1981. On December 18, 1967 he married Elaine D. Jepson and they made their home in Union, New Jersey.

A resident of Easton for eleven years, he was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Easton and former member and elder at Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church in Union, New Jersey. Mr. Krauth was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and The Chamber of Commerce of Union, New Jersey.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Krauth is survived by one son, Thomas M. Krauth of Bethesda, MD., three daughters; Susan K. Unice of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Marianne K. Connors of Holland Township, New Jersey, Lillian W. Perri of Alpharetta, Georgia and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 16, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the McCracken Funeral Home in Union, New Jersey. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday June 15 from 2-4:00 PM and 7-9:00 PM.

Burial will be at the Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Presbyterian Church in Easton.

Memorial Donations may be made to The Memorial Fund of The Presbyterian Church of Easton, 617 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601.

June 11, 2000

Kathryn Carolyn Myer of Centreville, MD. Formerly of the Washington, D.C. died June 11, 2000 at the Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville, MD. She was 83.

Born on February 22, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late John & Rosalie Szczurek Maslonis. She resided mainly in the Washington Metropolitan Area where she was very involved in the musical ministries of many local churches. Singing and playing the violin and piano. She is survived by her daughter Paula R. Brassfield and son in law Richard of Stevensville, MD, and Great Falls, VA. Four grandchildren David, Lori Kay, Timothy and Keith.

Graveside services will be held 10 am on Thursday June 15, 2000 at Stevensville Cemetery.

June 10, 2000

A Funeral Liturgy for Eugenia Ellen Callahan of Easton will be celebrated at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at 10:00 AM. She died on Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Homestead Manor in Denton. She was 80.

Born on July 20, 1919 in Ridgely, she was the daughter of the late Carey and Geraldine Callahan. In 1946, she married Edward H. "Buck" Callahan. Together, they owned and operated the Royal Oak Market in Royal Oak from 1953 until retiring in 1974. Mr. Callahan died on September 13, 1984.

Mrs. Callahan was a member of the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton. She was also a member of the E.E. Streets Memorial Post #5118, V.F.W.

Mrs. Callahan is survived by two nephews whom she raised, Michael A. Callahan and Lawrence J. Callahan, both of Easton; a niece, Gerri Baker of San Jose, CA; three great-nephews, John Callahan of Towson, Robert Callahan of Hawaii, and Jeff Draper of California; a great-niece, Kelly Collins of Easton; a great-great-nephew, Jacob Collins of Easton; a great-great-niece, Shelby Collins of Easton.

Two sisters, Geraldine "Lib" McClyment and Margaret Ann Smith, and two brothers, Marion J. Callahan and Paul Callahan, are deceased.

Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Monday, June 12, 2000 from 7-9 PM with prayers held at 8:30 PM. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Easton.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601 or the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 215 Goldsborough Street, Easton, MD 21601.

Helen Evelyn Ross of Westminster, Maryland, formally of Crumpton, Md died on June 10, 2000 at her home. She was 80 years of age.

Born in Virginia, on March 25th, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lilly [Reedy] Blevins. She spent her formative years in Virginia and later moved to Crumpton, Maryland where she and her husband Clifton would live for a period of 35 years. Together they raised a family of 4. She was very family orientated and loved being with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Ross had been active the Methodist church. In her spare time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, short distance traveling, and particularly liked to follow the Baltimore Orioles.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clifton A. Ross Sr. of Westminster, Md, two sons, Clifton A. Ross Jr. of Kennedyville, Md, Richard Ross of York, PA., a daughter Bonnie Goelick of Westminster, Md, a sister Carolyn Merriken of York, Pa, a brother Bud Blevins also of York, Pa, 13 grand children and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15th at 11 AM from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, Maryland. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to one of the following, Children’s Hospital in your local area, The American Heart Association, Kent County, 711 Washington Ave, #29 174, Chestertown, Maryland 21620 or the American Lung Association of Maryland, 207 East Market Street, Salisbury, Maryland 21801

June 9, 2000

Marian Bailey of Cecilton, Md, formally of Earlville, Md. died on June 9th at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, Md. She was 94 years of age.

Born in Earleville, Md she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma [Taylor] Long. She has been a life long resident of the Earleville, and Cecilton communities of Cecil County, Md. She enjoyed working on the family farm and upon leaving the farm she worked as a seamstress for many years. She Married Ralph Bailey Sr, and together they raised a family of 4.

She was a member of St. Paul’s W.S.C.S. for many years. In her spare time she loved to sew, and do other handcrafts such as cross stitch, Quilting, and Crocheting.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Bailey Sr. 1963 & 11 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Emily Jane Schrader of Middletown, De, Margaret Bailey O’Neal of Cecilton, Maryland, two sons; Ralph Edward Bailey, Jr. of Middletown, De. And Robert Donald Bailey of Bear, De. 10 grandchildren & 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 13th at 11 AM from the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 226 East Main Street, Cecilton, Md. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to service. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Earleville, Md.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made in her name to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 29, Earleville, MD 21919.

Charles Harry Wagner of Easton died on Friday, June 9, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 70.

Born in Preston on December 13, 1929, he was the son of the late John B., Sr. and Margaret Franklin Wagner. His step-mother, Virginia Wagner, is also deceased. He attended public school in Preston and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his release from active duty, he took a position with the Star Democrat from 1953-1984. While at the Star Democrat, he printed the first Waterfowl Festival book. He later worked as a printer for Economy Printing and Laser Letters, both in Easton.

Mr. Wagner was a member of the American Legion Post 70, Easton, the Moose Lodge #1520, Easton, and AARP. He loved woodworking as a hobby.

In addition to his wife, the former Barbara Bramble, whom he married on June 26, 1954, he is survived by two daughters, Debra L. Willey and her husband, Richard, of Harmony, and Cindy L. Saulsbury of Easton; two brothers, Thomas Wagner of Cambridge and John Wagner, Jr. of Bethlehem; three sisters, Ann Fisher of Federalsburg, Leona Moore of Middleville, MI, and Helen Mills of Archdale, NC; four grandchildren, Heather Saulsbury and Aaron Saulsbury, both of Easton, and J.W. Willey and Jason R. Willey, both of Harmony.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton on Wednesday, June 14, 2000 at 11:00 AM. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore, Beulah.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21601.

June 8, 2000

Grace Reynolds Tinley, of Easton formerly of Cambridge and Queen Annes County, died on Thursday June 8, 2000 at the William Hill Manor, Easton. She was 83.

Born in Greenwood, Delaware February 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Shadrach Lawrence and Nora Anderson Morris. As a child she moved with her family to Centreville where she graduated from Centreville High School. After graduating from Washington College in 1939, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, she worked briefly for the Baltimore City Social Services Department. In 1943, she was employed by the Queen Annes County Department of Social Services, from which she retired in 1983 with 40 years of service.

A resident of Queen Annes County for the majority of her life, she was a member of the Sip and Sew Group of Queen Annes County and the Wednesday Night Bridge Club.

Her marriage in 1940 to James E. Reynolds ended in divorce. In 1986 she married Howard Tinley and they made their home in Cambridge where he died in 1998.

Mrs. Tinley is survived by two daughters, Ann L. Reynolds of Annapolis and Carla R. Stevens of Raleigh, N.C.; a son James E. Reynolds Jr. of Easton; a brother, Joseph Morris of Church Hill and four grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 10 at 2 PM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 11 at the William Hill Manor, Easton.

Memorial Donations May be made to the Talbot Hospice Foundation,586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD.

Peter Stansbury Jones of Sudlersville, Md. died at his residence on Thursday June 8,2000. He was 64.

He is the son of Vernon Russel Jones of Sudlersville, Md. and the late Catherine Ester Stansbury.

All funeral services for Mr. Jones will be private.

Mr. Jones is survived by his father Vernon Russel Jones of Suddlersville, Md.; wife Patricia Leigh Jones of Suddlersville, Md.; 2 sons David Jones of Hampstead, Md. and Raymond Wells of Hampstead, Md.; 5 daughters Sharon Kim Murray of New York, Sandra Nunn of Manchester, Md., Catherine Naill of Hampstead, Md., Salena Dorn of Balt. City, and Christine of California.; 1sister Gail Denner of Chestertown, Md.

Mr. Jones was predeceased by 2 of his children Joanie Jones and Kieth Jones.

The family has requested that Memorial Contributions be made to the Queen Anne’s County Hospice at 300 Del Rhodes Ave. Queenstown, Md. 21658-1365.

June 4, 2000

Ellis Lea, SR. of Easton, died at Genesis ElderCare- the Pines on Sunday June 4,2000. He was 90.

Born on August 10, 1910 in Turner, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Alfred H. and Elizabeth Morris Lea. After graduating from the Kentucky Military Institute in Lexington Ky. in 1928 he attended the University of West Virginia at Morgantown. Following his graduation in 1932 he joined the West Virginia State Police where he served until 1940. He then joined the U.S. army where he served as a firearms expert and instructor until his release in 1959. Following his discharge he then worked for the U.S.A.I.D. as a firearms instructor.

Following his marriage in 1939 to the former Letitia Belle Wireman, they made their home in various places around the world during his military career, then in 1959 they, settled in Falls Church VA. and in 1988 when they moved to Easton.

He was a member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife Mr. Lea is survived by three sons: Ellis Lea Jr. of Easton, Alfred L. Lea of Roseberg, Oregon and John T. Lea of Lexington SC. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday June 8, 2000 at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Eastern Shore, Hurlock, Md. At 2:00pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the American cancer Society P.O. box 1306 Easton, Md 21601
