Jane E. Ward
MAUGANSVILLE - Jane Elizabeth Ward, 76, of 13944 Blue Mountain Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 9, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Albert Hauer and Virginia May Gray Biershing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jacob Ward Jr., on April 27, 1998.
She was employed by Hagerstown Post Office; and retired from Fleigh Motors, Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine V. Young.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Mary Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Olive C. Bowman
BOONSBORO - Olive Catherine Bowman, 99, of Park Drive, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Aug. 10, 1898, in Chewsville, she was the daughter of the late Walter W. and Cora Unger Shilling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Nelson Bowman, in 1961.
She was a former employee of Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown. She retired in 1968 from the Washington County Board of Education.
She was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, Boonsboro.
She is survived by six daughters, Charlotte Keller, Zella Koogle and Arvella Lutz, all of Middletown, Md., Rhea Stup and Orpha Wade, both of Boonsboro, and Olive Draper of Fairplay; four sons, George Bowman of Williamsport and Roger Bowman, Glenn Bowman and Marshall Bowman, all of Boonsboro; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Griffith; a sister and six brothers.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Edward J. Wade, her grandson, will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after noon Sunday.
Viola M. Munday
HANCOCK - Viola Marie Munday, 73, of Berm Road, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 14, 1925, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Bryan and Gertie Lee Palmer Potter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Munday, in 1987.
She was a homemaker.
She was a Methodist.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann Fleegle of Hancock; a son, Robert Lee Munday of Martinsburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Morris; a brother, Ervin B. Potter; and three infant brothers.
A graveside service will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Spohrs Cross Roads Cemetery near Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Larry Westcott will officiate.
The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock.
Donald L. Eavey Sr.
Donald Lee Eavey Sr., 65, of 17523 Lexington Avenue, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 7, 1933, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Walter E. Sr. and Nellie Moats Eavey.
He was employed with Duncan Brothers for 17 years, retiring in 1995. He was previously employed with Hagerstown Rubber Company and O. P. Bowman.
He was a member of Calvary Temple In Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth Eileen Koontz Eavey; a daughter, Donna Marie McDonald of Hagerstown; two sons, Donald L. Eavey Jr. and John K. Eavey Sr., both of Hagerstown; a sister, Thelma Nicodemus of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; a stepgranddaughter; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Eavey; and a brother, Roger Eavey.
Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jacob E. Beckley Jr.
WARREN, Ohio - The Rev. Jacob Edgar Beckley Jr., 76, of 632 Champion St., East Warren, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late J. Edgar Beckley Sr., and Myrtle Crabill.
He attended Practical Bible Training School and was ordained in 1945.
He retired from Bazetta Baptist Church in 1994. He also was a pastor for churches in Maryland, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia and Ohio.
He was a member of Bethany Baptist Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl J. Beckley of Champion, Ohio, whom he married Dec. 20, 1940; one daughter, Andrea Houck of Champion; two sons, J. Edgar Beckley III of Binghamton, N.Y., and Philip Beckley of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Dorothy Beckley of Hagerstown and Rosemarie Hauser of Cortland, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Myers and Loretta Henson; and three brothers, Howard Beckley, Kenneth Beckley and Harold Beckley.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren. Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery in Champion.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Garfield N. McClanathan
Garfield Newton McClanathan, 85, of Martinsburg, W.Va., was born May 24, 1913. He was self-employed, and lived most of his life in Hagerstown.
Irma V. Thomas
BOONSBORO - Irma Vivian Thomas, 76, of 19523 Mill Point Road, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 20, 1922, in St. James, she was the daughter of the late Ivan C. and Alice A. Beachley Reid.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a former children's Sunday school teacher.
She also was a member of AARP.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Jason Thomas Sr., whom she married Oct. 6, 1945; three daughters, Alice M. Michael, Sally L. Bowers and Rebecca S. Thomas, all of Boonsboro; two sons, Howard J. Thomas Jr. of Rockville and Kenneth E. Thomas of Boonsboro; one sister, Mae Bennett of Hagerstown; two brothers, Jacob Reid of Funkstown, and Charles Reid of Halfway; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Reid and Paul Reid.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Kenneth J. Harrington will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mack A. Ross
WILLIAMSPORT - Mack A. Ross, 76, formerly of Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock, a resident of Williamsport Nursing Home, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at the home.
Born April 29, 1922, in Boston, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Annie L. Lapron Ross.
He was formerly employed by S.A. Woods Machine Shop in Boston. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hancock.
He is survived by two sisters, Anna L. Davidson of Hancock, and Margaret Kalinowski of Gardner, Maine; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Emily Mason; and three brothers, Benjamin Ross, Francis Ross and David Ross.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. George W. Glick as celebrant. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Howard E. Cole
STATESVILLE, N.C. - Howard Edward "Ed" Cole, 76, of 253 Lindsay St., died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Sandy Hook, he was the son of the late Howard E. Cole and Vera Mae Ryan Cole.
His wife, Sally Farmer Cole, died March 29. They were married July 27, 1941.
He was raised at Barium Springs Home for Children and graduated from there in 1940. He attended Davidson College.
He retired after 44 years of service from Carnation Milk Co., where he was a foreman.
He was a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher of the Mens Bible Class, a deacon and a past elder.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Roberts of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, James Cole of Chesapeake, Va., and Edward Cole, at home; one brother, Fred Cole of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Cole Fletcher; and one brother, Ted Cole.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Steve Snipes will officiate. Burial will be in Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Ave., Statesville, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
