Yates, Eleanora L.

Eleanora L. Yates, 84, of Cambridge, passed away late Saturday night, March 17, 2001 at the Chesapeake Woods Center. She was the wife of the late Judge William B. Yates and has been in failing health for the past year.

She was born in Sharptown on January 17, 1917, the daughter of the late William Edward and Jerusha Hurley Lowe. She was a graduate of Sharptown High School and later became a Registered Nurse after graduation from the Cambridge-Maryland Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Yates pursued a career in nursing at the Cambridge-Maryland Hospital and the Dorchester County Health Department, retiring in 1966. She was married to Mr. Yates on December 15, 1938. Mr. Yates, who was a retired Dorchester County District Court Judge passed away on May 21, 1996.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Cambridge Yacht Club.

She is survived by one daughter; Mary Y. Vaeth of Cambridge, one son; William Baine Yates, III of Snow Hill and his wife, Martha, five grandchildren; Charles C. Hillyer, III, William Y. Hillyer, W. Sherwood Yates, Sidney B. Yates and Casandra Y. Peterson, six great-grandchildren; three sisters; Naomi Owens of Chester, MD, Edna Huston of Sharptown, and Betty Collison of Cambridge; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by three brothers Levin Lowe, Fulton Lowe, and Roy Lowe, and one sister Marie Hastings.

A funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Thursday morning at 11 o’clock by Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Friends will be received at the church during the hour before the service. Interment will take place in Old Trinity Churchyard. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, c/o Shirley Kailianu, 8 Somerset Ave., Cambridge MD 21613. Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home, P.A.

Giffing, Mary R.

Mary R. Giffing, 81, of Eustis, FL died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at The Edgewater at Watermans Village Nursing Home in Mt. Dora, FL. Mrs. Giffing was born on March 4, 1920 in Conowingo, MD. She was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Eustis and an active member in the church circle. She was a former member of West Nottingham Presbyterian Church in Colora, MD. She is survived by a son, William R. Giffing of Mt. Dora, FL, formerly of Rising Sun, MD; 6 grandchildren, William R. Giffing, Jr., of Florida, Robert Giffing of Utah, Russell Giffing of Colorado, Jeffrey Giffing of New Mexico, Randy Giffing of North Carolina and Kim Fenner of Maryland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest R. Giffing, who passed away in 1985. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday March 22, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery, Peach Bottom, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association/ALS or the American Cancer Society c/o funeral home.

Kenney, John David

Salisbury - John D. Kenney, 63, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, March 20,2001, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Clossie and Mary Louise Piche Kenney. After graduating from Lewiston Porter Senior High School in 1955, he worked on the Niagara Power Project, and served in the US Army for two years. He was a Niagara County Deputy Sheriff and a former Fire Chief of the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1, in the village of Lewiston. Mr. Kenney was the first president of the Lewiston Tyro Football league in the 1960’s, and a former member of the Lewiston Kiwanis. Upon moving to Salisbury in 1973 he was a volunteer fireman at station 2, a member of the Kiwanis club, the East Side Men’s Club, and the Bayside football, basketball and baseball association. He was actively involved with youth at the Boys Club and Wicomico County Recreational Department. Until his death he was involved with the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Salisbury State University. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Bates Kenney, two sons William Bates Kenney of Anacortes, WA, C. Matthew Kenney and his wife Gladys of Baltimore, and a daughter Mary Margaret Marshall and her husband 2nd lieutenant Eric Marshall of Oceanside, CA, two brothers Allen Kenney of Salisbury and Kenneth Kenney of Lewiston, NY, three sisters Joyce Cooper of Lewiston, NY Dorothy Ingram of Titusville, FL and Ruth Ann Pokrzyk of Sanborn, NY. He was preceded in death by a sister June Jarvis. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday at 3:30 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury., where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Father Ed Aigner will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Youth Club, 407 Oak St, Salisbury, MD 21804. Arrangements are being handled by the staff of Bounds Funeral Home.

Whitten, Robert O.

Robert O. Whitten, of Cambridge, passed away at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford on Wednesday March 21, 2001 . He was 67. He was born in Cambridge on January 8, 1934 and was the son of the late Oliver Hubbard and Pauline Henry Whitten.

Mr. Whitten had attended schools in Cambridge. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from December 26, 1951 until December 5, 1955. He had served in Greenland, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant at the time of his discharge. On March 22, 1975 he was married to the former Marba Robbins. After he had been discharged from the service he had worked as an automobile salesman at Meredith Auto Sales in Cambridge. He later worked as an insurance salesman for United Insurance and later for People’s Security Life Insurance Co. He had retired several years ago. He was a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion and also Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW. Mr. Whitten had played music for a number of years. He had played with Ronnie Dove and later with the Country Casuals which later became Zodiac with Doc McWilliams. He had been a keyboardist and also lead vocalist. Mr. Whitten had been in failing health for several months, and had been a patient at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital since January 28 where he passed away on Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his wife, Marba B. Whitten of Cambridge; one daughter: Ruthanna W. Lucas of Cambridge; three sons: Robert D. Whitten of Cambridge, Ralph D. Whitten of Bel Air and Mark O. Whitten of Cambridge. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Joseph D’Adamo, Neil D’Adamo, Melissa Whitten, Kyle Whitten and David Whitten; two great grandchildren, one sister, Paula L. Robinson of Toddville, two brothers: Donald R. Whitten and Theodore W. Whitten, both of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Whitelock.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. D. J. Wooten officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday during the hour preceding the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 114 Baptist Street, Salisbury, MD 21801

Stanley, Cecelia Thompson

Cecelia Stanley of Hurlock, MD died at Cheseapeake Woods on Friday, March 16, 2001 at the age of 94. She was born on July 4, 1906 at Petersburg, Maryland the daughter of the late Fred and Henrietta Ross Thompson. She was married to the late Charles Monroe Stanley. She was a previous domestic worker, nurses aid and most recently at the former Acme Cannery. She had been a member of Mt. Zion U.M.C and Church of God of Prophecy in Hurlock where she served on the usher board and most recently attending Tabernacle of Prayer in East New Market. She was also a former member of the Morning Stars gospel group and attended Pleasant Adult Day Care in Cambridge, MD. She is survived by six children, Hattie Thompson of Seaford, DE, Frederick "Freddie" Stanley (Doris Cottom) of Hurlock, Algie (Algina) Stanley of Hurlock, Alfred Bernard Stanley (Cora) of Williamsburg, Gennett Nichols (Emerson) of Hurlock, and James "Boy" Stanley (Cassandra) of Linkwood, a daughter-in-law, Glendora Stanley of Seaford, twenty-three grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-great-grandchildren, three of the grandchildren she raised as her own, Thomas Thompson & Charlie Wongus both of Seaford, and Doretha Wongus of Hurlock, a sister-in-law, Esther Thompson of Hurlock, a first cousin, Charlie Jenkins of Seaford, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three children, Evelyn Stanley, Ada Fountain, and Monroe Stanley, nine siblings, John A. Thompson, Namon Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Walter Thompson, Linwood Thompson, Mildred Wilson, Catherine Thompson, Maggie Thompson, and Onelia Thompson., and her companion of over eighteen years, Carroll N. Johnson. Funeral services for her will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion U.M.C. in East New Market .Interment will follow at East New Market cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.

Evans, Robert D.

Robert D. Evans, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2001 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge. He was 75. He was born in Old Forge, PA on June 7, 1925 and was the son of the late David and Margaret Harrison Evans.

Mr. Evans had graduated from West Pittston High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946 and had served in the Pacific Theater. On May 9, 1953 he was married to the former Clara Mae Messick. He had received a Bachelor’s Degree from George Washington University. In 1963 he joined the Fairfax Co. Virginia Public School System and later received his Masters Degree in Education in 1967. He taught schools at George C. Marshall High School and retired as an Administrator in Adult Education in 1986. He had made his home in Cambridge since September of 1986. He was stricken suddenly at his home on Saturday evening, and was taken to Dorchester General Hospital, where he passed away.

Mr. Evans was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge; Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW, Cambridge Lodge No. 1271 B.P.O.E., US Navy Armed Guard Veterans of WW II, National Education Association, American Industrial Arts Assoc. and the International Technology Education Assoc.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Clara Mae Evans of Cambridge, two daughters, and their husbands, Susan A. Evans and Ralph Boccurosse of Great Falls, VA., Patricia Evans Kreutz and James C. Kreutz of Herndon, VA; seven grandchildren, Michael G. Fox, Laura Virginia Fox, Kristin Boccurosse, Karin Boccurosse, Andrea Boccurosse, Caroline Boccurosse and Elizabeth Boccurosse.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. Fountain, Gladys M.

Gladys M. Fountain, of Cambridge, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2001 at the Glasgow Nursing Home in Cambridge. She was 100. Miss Fountain was born in Cambridge on August 14, 1900 and was the daughter of the late Hugh Mills and Nettie Snow Fountain.

She had attended schools in Cambridge, and had graduated as Valedictorian from Cambridge High school in 1917. She then attended Goldey Business College in Delaware and graduated in 1918. Miss Fountain had worked at the National Bank of Cambridge for 25 years. She later moved to Baltimore where she worked for the State of Maryland in the Educational Department. She retired in 1969 and moved back to Cambridge. Miss Fountain was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge, and was also a former member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and also the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary. She had been a resident at the Glasgow Nursing Home since 1991 where she passed away on Saturday morning.

Miss Fountain is survived by one sister, Nellie B. Webster, of Cambridge, and several nieces and nephews, to whom she had been devoted. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six sisters, Isabelle S. Fountain, Anna Phillips, Sara James, Julia Ann Fountain, Agnes F. Waters and Betty Hugh Pritchett and two brothers, James H. Fountain and William S. Fountain.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating.

Jester, James Thomas

James Thomas Jester of Choptank Main Street, Preston, MD died at his home on Saturday, March 24, 2001. He was 73. He was born Aug. 26, 1927 in Choptank, MD, the son of the late Ear and Edna Collins Jester. He was a Preston High School graduate Class of 1944. He was a WW II Army veteran serving in Company "E" Manhattan District Santa Fe, NM. He worked as a mechanic for Preston Motor Company, had driven truck for Robert M. Harper & Son; had worked for the former Fry Memorials in Cambridge which later became Acra Arts Memorials, and later founded Jester Sandblasting of Choptank, MD. He was a life member of Preston Volunteer Fire Co., Past Counselor and member of the Junior Order United American Mechanic #43 in Preston, was member of the Preston Council, member of the American Legion Post #70 in Easton, and was a Committee Member of Boy Scout Troop #461 in Preston. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Alvina Monath Jester, whom he married May 12, 1949, three sons, Russell Alan Jester of Delray Beach, FL, Earl Louis Jester, Sr. and Robert Francis Jester, both of Choptank; five grandchildren, Lori E. Jester, Michael A. Jester, Earl L. Jester, Jr., April L. Jester and Daniel R. Jester; and a sister, Evelyn Williamson of Choptank. Funeral services, including a Fireman's service, will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Interment will follow in Belmont cemetery in Choptank, MD. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. A service by Junior Order U.A.M. will be held at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Caroline Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629 or Junior Order U.A.M. , c/o Chuck Cahall, 25655 Hignutt Rd., Denton, MD 21629.

Harrington, Allen Dean

Allen Dean Harrington, 55, of North East, MD died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at home. Mr. Harrington was born on April 16, 1945 in Elkton, MD. He was a commercial truck driver for the Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a ten point US Army veteran of the Vietnam war and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the local American Legion, Post 194 and the VFW in Rising Sun. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, NASCAR, dancing, racing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mabel A. Harrington of North East; his mother, Dorothy F. Harrington of Rising Sun, MD; 1 son, Dwayne E. Harrington of Cecilton, MD; 2 daughters, Brenda L. Hepbron of Chesapeake City, MD and Patricia M. Harrington of North East; and 7 grandchildren, Johanna, Ashley, Richie, Ben, Ariel, Hunter and Dean. He is preceded in death by his father Dean Harrington. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 27, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call Monday evening from 7 - 9 pm. Rev. Robert C. Prior will be officiating and full military honors will be provided by Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Brookview cemetery, Rising Sun, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Friends of Northern Chesapeake Hospice or the Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard c/o funeral home.

Marshall, William R.

William R. Marshall, 82, of Hills Point, passed away at his home early Monday morning, March 26, 2001. He was the husband of the former Doris Hubbard.

He was born in Baltimore on March 9, 1919, the son of the late Robert Chaplain and Ella Condon Marshall. Although born in Baltimore he was raised and attended public schools in the Neck District of Dorchester County. Mr. Marshall was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946. While in the Navy he saw action both in the Pacific and the Atlantic. For most of his life he was a mechanic and was employed at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center in the maintenance department until retiring in 1982.

Mr. Marshall was a life member of Dorchester Post 91 American Legion and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 V.F.W. He was also a member of Spedden United Methodist Church and the Cambridge Power Boat Regatta Association.

He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married on January 7, 1939, one daughter and son in law Brenda M. and Robert L. Hurley Sr. of Hills Point, one son and daughter in law William W. and Doris E. Marshall of Ragged Point, five grandchildren, William L. Marshall, Debbie Marshall, Teresa Hernandez, Robert L. Hurley, Jr., and Danny L. Hurley, eight great-grandchildren, Casey Marshall, Megan Marshall, Billy Marshall, Debra Marshall, Carlie Marshall, Ellie Marshall, James Hurley, and Josh Hurley, two sisters, Mildred Bradshaw of Cambridge and Betty McNamara of Ragged Point. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Irene James and a brother Capt. Walter Marshall.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock by Rev. Gloria S. Attix. Burial will take place in East New Market cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday night from 7:30 to 9. Memorials may be made to Spedden United Methodist Church, c/o Carolyn Wright, 507 Gay St., Cambridge MD 21613.

Vickers, Helen J

Salisbury - Helen J. Vickers, 82, of here died, Monday, March 26,2001 at Manokin Manor in Princess Anne. Born in Timmons Town, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence G. and Cody Timmons Jackson .She was preceded in death by her husband William Edward Vickers and a son Gerald Vickers Sr., a sister, Pauline Esham, and three brothers; Lawrence, Reese and George Jackson She was employed at English Grill until she retired in 1981. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great and great- great grandmother to a daughter Susan Malone and her husband George of Princess Anne, a daughter in law Christine Vickers Brasure, seven grandchildren; Daniel and Erin Malone, Gerald Vickers Jr., Karlo Vickers, Teresa Williams, Vickie Catlin, and Vera Taylor, ten great-grandchildren; Adam and Cara Williams, Kevin and Andrew Vickers, Kyle, Garrett and Maya Taylor, Abigail and Madelyn Catlin, and Mary Vickers, and one great-great-grandchild, Kayla Williams. A funeral service will be held Friday, at 2PM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St. in Salisbury, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Anthony Rosetta will officiate. Cole, Phillip Wayne

Phillip Wayne Cole died at his home in Federalsburg, MD on Tuesday, March 27, 2001. He was 56.

He was born on January 2, 1945, in Church Hill, Maryland the son of the late William Cole Edna Hill Cole.

He was a truck driver most of his life and had worked for Williamson Trucking in Williamsburg and Pryamid Trucking Company in Federalsburg. He served in the United States army from 1963-1966.

He is survived by his son, Timothy W. Cole of Preston, MD, a step-son, Robert Schockley of Salisbury, MD, a sister, Doris Wessel of Millington, three grandchildren, Annie, Michaela , and Amber Cole, three special nieces, Kim Delano, Kelly Delano and Nicki Delano. A brother, Romie Cole preceded him in death.

Services will be private. Friends are encouraged to make a memorial contribution in his memory to the Caroline County Hospice Foundation, Post Office Box 362, Denton, MD 21632.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg.

Franklin, Sr., Eddie

Eddie Franklin, Sr., a devoted and dedicated church man, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at his home in Havre de Grace, MD. Born in Bishopville, South Carolina, he was the youngest child born to Wiley and Henrietta (Wilson) Franklin. He received his education in the Lee County, S.C. public schools. In 1941, Mr. Franklin moved to Havre de Grace and began to work at the Bainbridge Naval Training Center as a construction worker and truck driver. He became the first African American to be employed as a school bus driver for Harford County Public Schools in 1945 and retired after 38 years of dedicated service. “Mr. Eddie, the bus driver,” took great pride in the number of former school bus passengers who would stop by to visit and discuss their experiences! “Mr. Eddie” was known to be a firm disciplinarian but was fair with all children. He began to work for the Barnes Motor Company in 1950 and was there until it closed. Mr. Franklin committed himself to God and the church at the early age of 12 when he became a member of St. Johns Methodist Church, Bishopville, SC. Upon his arrival in Havre de Grace, he affiliated himself with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. M.C. Phillips. He fulfilled his commitments to the faith community through his service. He served as president of the Trustee Board, was ordained a deacon in 1954 and served faithfully until he became too ill. In the 1970’s Mr. Franklin began the pursuit of an earlier interest when he joined the Harford and Cecil Counties Male Chorus. He also joined and was an active member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Male Chorus. He leaves to mourn his death his beloved wife of 54 years, Hattie (Thomas) Franklin of Havre de Grace, MD; a son, Eddie Franklin, Jr. and a daughter in-law Cynthia Franklin of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren, Ericka Waters of Baltimore MD, and Dennis Robinson of Fort Washington, MD; two great grandchildren, Chanelle and Ronnie Robinson of Fort Washington, MD; a special grandson, Justin McGuire of Sayerville, NJ; and a host of nieces and nephews. His daughter Carrie Robinson predeceased him. Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday March 23, 2001 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 520 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD where friends may call one hour prior. Friends may also call Thursday March 22, 2001 at the church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.

Washington, Lavarn

Lavarn Washington of Edgewood, MD passed away from this earth Thursday March 29, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Washington was born on December 17, 1940 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Earl and Ethel Scott. She attended school in New Brunswick, NJ until she met Leo Washington her spouse. In the early 1970’s she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She is survived by 5 daughters, Arlene Moore and Margo Washington both of Edgewood, MD, Charlene Washington of Durham, NC, Charlotte Watts of Spanish Fort, AL, and Yvonne Smith of Charlotte, NC; 2 sons, Leslie Washington of Edgewood, MD and Leo Washington of New Brunswick, NJ; 3 sisters, Millie Brown of East Windsor, NJ, Ethel Scott of Las Vegas, NV and Arlene White of Syracuse, NY; 4 brothers, Earl Scott, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, Walter Scott of Atlanta, GA, Richard Scott of Sicklerville, NJ, and Obalewa Abileye (Robert) of New York, NY; three son in-laws, Ronnie Lester of Killeen, TX, Terrance Watts of Spanish Fort, AL and Jason Moore of Edgewood, MD; one daughter in-law Sonya Washington of Edgewood, MD; 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters, Mary Salter and Kathleen Scott; 2 brothers, Omi Ossunniyi (Wesley Scott) and Earon Scott. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday April 2, 2001 at Zion Temple Apostolic Faith Church, 501 Legion Drive, Havre de Grace, MD where friends may call one hour prior. Friends may also call Sunday April 1, 2001 at LISA SCOTT FUNERAL HOME, 552 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. James United cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.

Kunowsky, Shirley Ann

Salisbury: Shirley Ann Kunowsky, 68, of Salisbury and formerly of Langley Park, MD died on Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at her home. Born in Newport, TN on November 19, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Burnett and Eula Raines Burnett. Her husband, Albert A. Kunowsky who died in 1981, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kunowsky was employed as an analyst with the Federal Bureau of Investigation retiring in 1989 after 38 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Princess Anne. She was also a member and past vice-president/treasurer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARF).

She is survived by a son and daughter in law; James G. and Linda M. Kunowsky of Salisbury, two sisters; Betsy Worley and Genevieve Valentine, both of Newport, TN, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Paul Burnett, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where family and friends may call from 6:30-7:00 P.M. Pastor William R. Horner will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center Radiation Oncology Unit, attention: PRMC Foundation, 100 E. Carroll St., Salisbury, MD 21801 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
