Rogers, Mary Mae Todd

Mary Mae Todd Rogers died at Easton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 22, 2001. She was 73.

She was born on September 3, 1927 in Harmony, MD the daughter of the late Towers and Bertha Lister Todd.

She graduated from Preston High School in 1945. She worked for General Motors while living in New Jersey and then became a chicken vaccinator and also worked as a Caroline County school bus driver after moving back to Maryland. She and her husband also ran a chicken production and produce farm for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, A. David Rogers, who she married on June 25, 1947 in Lambertville, New Jersey and a son, Bill Rogers of Harmony and a daughter, Faye Stevens of Greenwood, DE, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Arthur Todd of Rhodesdale and Harry Todd of Broadkill, Delaware and a sister, Elizabeth Cameron of Newark, DE and many nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Lee Todd and Walter Todd and a sister, Marie Anderson preceded her in death.

Funeral services for her will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, MD with the Rev. Howard Dunn, officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m..

Carroll, Lois Weston

Lois Weston Carroll of Federalsburg passed on to her heavenly reward on Friday, July 20, 2001 at her home. She was 77.

Born May 5, 1924 in Relay, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alva M. and Valley Harrison Weston.

She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Easton, a volunteer for seventeen years at William Hill Manor in Easton, and a member of Dorchester Swinger Square Dance Club and Ocean Wave Square Dance Club of Salisbury.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John D. "Jack" Carroll, whom she married June 30, 1945, two sons, John Robert Carroll of Ellicott City, MD and Richard Leroy Carroll, Sr. of Compton, MD, and a daughter, Dorothy Ann Garman of Charlottsville, VA, and seven grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial cemetery in Baltimore, MD. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association Caroline County, c/o Christy Coale, P.O. Box 43, Federalsburg, MD 21632 or to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Rd., Easton, MD 21601. Arrangements being handled by Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg.

Hales, Robert Lee

Salisbury- Robert Lee “Buddy” Hales, 61, of Salisbury, died Monday, February 26,2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Born, May 27,1939 in Salisbury he was the son of the late Marion F. and Viola Smullen Hales. His wife Jane L. Hales and two sisters Joyce Wagner and Jean Simms preceded him in death

He is survived by four nephews; Kevin, Jay, Barry, and Brian Wagner all of Salisbury, four nieces; Marian Ann Kelly, Deana Williams, Christina Boyles all of Salisbury, and Joanne Simms of Laurel, MD, and several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A graveside service will be held Friday, March 2,2001 at 11:00 AM at Smullen cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30-10:30 at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St. in Salisbury. The Rev. Sam McWilliams will officiate.

Carr, Francis C.

Francis C. Carr, 60, of North East, MD, formerly of Walpole, MA, died Monday July 23, 2001.

Mr. Carr, the son of the late Carlton & Carrie Carr, worked at Billie’s Chuckwagon Restaurant in North East and formerly worked at the Country Kitchen in Walpole, MA as a baker. He bowled for over 20 years, bowling in the Elkton Senior League at Elk Lanes in Elkton, MD. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eileen M. Carr of North East, MD; 2 daughters, Elizabeth Carr of Zephyrhills, FL and Tina Foster of Elkton, MD; 2 sons, Karl Carr of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert A. Carr of Massachusetts; 1 brother, David Carr of Zephyrhills, FL; and 7 grandchildren.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday July 27, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call Thursday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Tennis, Bertha Marie

Bertha Marie Tennis, 79, of Port Deposit, MD, died Wednesday July 11, 2001 at home.

Mrs. Tennis, a homemaker, was born on March 31, 1922 in Rowlandsville, MD. She was a member of the VFW Post #8185 Auxiliary in Port Deposit.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Crabbe of Port Deposit; 2 sons, Gary Tennis of Port Deposit and Richard Tennis of Rising Sun, MD; a brother, Lester Farmer of Greenville, TX; 3 sisters, Effie Myers of Rising Sun, Grace Nickle of Perryville, MD and Ruth Kennedy of Port Deposit; 7 grandchildren, Michael Crabbe of Port Deposit, Timothy Crabbe of North East, Jeannie Weitzel of Port Deposit, Stacey Rose of Georgia, Jamie Tennis of Elkton and Kevin Tennis and Mathew Tennis, both of Rising Sun; and 5 great grandchildren, Erin Crabbe, Alex Crabbe, Meagan Weitzel, Baylee Weitzel and Breanna Crabbe.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rutter Gene Tennis, who passed away in 1981 and her parents, Stacy and Celia Farmer.

Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 14, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call one hour prior. Rev. Maleia Rust will be officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell cemetery in Port Deposit.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation c/o R. T. Foard Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Hershberger, Anna S.

INMAN, SOUTH CAROLINA--Anna S. Hershberger of Inman, South Carolina and formerly of Wyoming, Delaware, died Tuesday, July 10, 2001 in Magnolia Manor, Inman, South Carolina. She was 83.

She was born on November 19, 1917 in Dalton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Lizzie Wengerd Yoder.

Mrs. Hershberger was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in South Carolina.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hershberger was predeceased by her husband Simon Hershberger in August 1981.

She is survived by four sons Levi Hershberger of Inman, SC, Daniel Hershberger of Fredericksburg, OH, Edward Hershberger of Campobello, SC and Henry Hershberger of San Antonio, TX; two daughters Katie Marlow of Landrum, SC and Betty Laughter of Inman, SC; three brothers Dave Yoder of Dover, Daniel Yoder and Levi Yoder both of Hartly, three sisters Fannie Hostler of Fredericksburg, OH, Mary Borntreger of Dover and Katie Weaver of Dalton, OH, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

The Rev. Jesse J. Yoder will officiate.

Burial will be in Templeville cemetery, Templeville, Maryland.

Sisler, Linda S.

Mrs. Linda Sue Sisler, 49, of Middletown died on Tuesday, July 3, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was the wife of Ronald D. Sisler, her husband of 29 years.

Born on February 14, 1952, in Oakland, MD, she was the daughter of Mildred Elaine Harvey Beeman of Oakland and the late Wilbert Gordon Beeman, Sr.. Mrs. Sisler was primarily a homemaker, but for ten years was as a cafeteria worker for the Frederick County Board of Education working in the Middletown School Complex. She enjoyed gardening and babysitting her only grandson. Mrs. Sisler attended the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday School.

Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are three children; Eric D. Sisler and wife Stacey of Frederick, Rhonda L. Sisler of Middletown and Renae E. Sisler also of Middletown; a grandson, Daimen M. Sisler of Middletown; eleven brothers and sisters; Wilbert Beeman of Akron, OH, Helen Tasker of Kitzmiller, MD, Jane Ashby of Ashland, OH, Alvin Roger Beeman of Oakland, MD, Charles Beeman of Kent, OH, Raymond Beeman of Oakland, Betty Nelson of Kitzmiller, Jimmie Dale Beeman of Kitzmiller, George Beeman of Swanton, MD, Ellen Louise Bray of Kitzmiller and Edith Tasker of Oakland.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, July 12, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 13, at the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene, 7899 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick with the Rev. Richard G. Diffenderfer officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery, Myersville.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Frederick First Church of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, 7899 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

Harrington, Eleanor Digges

Eleanor Digges Harrington, of Cambridge, passed away on Tuesday July 31, 2001 at the Chesapeake Woods Center after a brief illness. She was 90. She was born at La Plata, MD on December 1, 1910 and was the daughter of the late Judge Walter Mitchell and Natalie Jenkins Digges, Sr.

Mrs. Harrington had graduated from La Plata High School in 1927. After her high school graduation she attended Notre Dame College of Maryland, where she graduated in 1931. On May 25, 1938 she was married to Calvin Harrington, Jr. Mrs. Harrington then moved to Cambridge to begin their family. She has been a resident of Dorchester County ever since. Mr. Harrington passed away on September 8, 1974. Mrs. Harrington was a Communicant of St. Mary’s Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge and had been a 30 year member of the Board of Trustees at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and was also a 62 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and had also served on the Dorchester County Library Board. She had been in failing health for the past two months when she passed away on Tuesday morning.

She is survived by a daughter and son in law, Anne Harrington and William C. Storey, Jr. of Annapolis, two sons and daughters in law: David D. and Diane G. Harrington of Cambridge and Richard D. and Sandra S. Harrington, also of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Brian M. Harrington , Brooke J. Harrington and his wife Melanie L. Harrington, Jessica L. Harrington, Jennifer D. Harrington and Matthew B. Harrington, all of Cambridge; one great grandson, Jonathan D. Harrington of Cambridge, one brother, Edward S. Digges, Sr. of La Plata, one sister in law, Dorothy H. Mahood of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Judge John Dudley Digges and Walter Mitchell Digges, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday morning at St. Mary’s Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge. Interment will follow at Christ Episcopal Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. Memorial Contributions may be made to Dorchester Co. Historical Society, 902 LaGrange Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be Brian Haumerson, John Shaw, Mark Jenkins, William E. Harrington, William J. Moosegian and George W. Wright, Jr.

Fishell, Doris Collins

Doris Collins Fishell of Federalsburg, MD died at her home on Auction Road on July 31, 2001 in Federalsburg, MD. She was 73.

She was born May 18, 1928 in Easton, MD, the daughter of the late Ellis H. and Mary Nichols Collins. She was raised by her late stepmother Louise Brown Collins. Her husband, Leslie Ellis Fishell, preceded her in death on November 3, 1999.

She was a Federalsburg High School graduate Class of 1945. She attended Beacom College in Wilmington, DE. She worked as a clerk for Diamond State Telephone in Wilmington and for Commercial Credit Company in Baltimore, and was a receptionist and secretary for Thawley and Smith Law Office in Denton. She was a former member of Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, where she taught kindergarten Sunday School for fifteen years. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Debra Fishell Riggin and Robert Sidney Riggin, of Federalsburg, a grandson, Kyle Robert Riggin of Patuxent, MD, a niece Barbara Gordy Stephens of Seaford, two nephews, Benjamin Ellis Gordy of Seaford and William Lambert Gordy of Laurel, DE, one great-granddaughter, one great nephew and three great nieces.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hill Crest cemetery in Federalsburg with Rev. Glenn H. Lyburn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Peggy Culhane, 5170 Long Swamp Road, Federalsburg, MD 21632 or to Union United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main Street, Federalsburg, MD 21632. Arrangements entrusted to Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P. A.
