Bradford, Lloyd G. "Mickey"

Powellville, Lloyd “Mickey” Bradford, 79, of Powellville died Saturday, June 23, 2001 at his home. He was the son of the late George Will Bradford and Alice Hales Bradford.

He was a retired foreman for the Wicomico County Roads and a farmer.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of fifty eight years Mildred E. Bradford, a son, Ronnie L Bradford Sr. and his wife Nadine of Powellville, three grandchildren, Laura Bradford of Powellville, Ronnie L. Bradford Jr.and Kim Willey both of Salisbury, two great-grandchildren Ashleigh and Alexis Willey of Salisbury.

A memorial service will be held, Tuesday evening at 8PM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St. in Salisbury, where friends may call from 6 to 8 PM. The Rev John W. Moore and Rev. Paul H. Sherwood will officiate.

Cullen, Alexander W.

Alexander W. Cullen, 82, Sandy Bend Road, Marydel, passed away Sunday July 22, 2001 at Silverlake nursing center Dover.

He was born on September 27, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY to James and Jean (Gardner) Cullen.

He served in the US Army in the 1930's then served in the mercharnt marines in W W I I. He then worked for Exxon as a pumpman and retired in 1982. He was a member of Calvary United Methedist Church in Marydel, DE also member of the Marydel Lions Club..

He is survived by his Cousin, Barbara Spero of Paramus, NJ. Also his extended family of special friends The Nolett's, The Monaco's, The Kent's, The DaFonte's, The Berry's, and The Beyer's.

Remembrance Services will be held Friday 07/27/2001 12:00 Noon at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, DE

Friends may call one hour before the time of the service at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Marydel Vol. Fire Co. Marydel, MD.

Booze, Freddie F.

Fred F. “Freddie” Booze, 73, of Cambridge, passed away at Dorchester General Hospital early Saturday afternoon, July 28, 2001. He was the husband of the former Mildred Grace Pohl.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 4, 1927, the son of the late Oscar McGee and Lydia Andrews Booze. At the age of ten his family moved back to the Church Creek area of Dorchester County where he was raised and attended public schools.

In October of 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy and within three months received a medical discharge. Mr. Booze was employed by the Cambridge Wire Cloth Co. for 23 years, retiring in 1976. He worked for many years as a self-employed waterman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was an accomplished boat builder and over the years had built numerous workboats. He attended the Cambridge Wesleyan Church. He has had some health problems for several years and on Friday night he was stricken at home and taken to Dorchester General Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, to whom he was married on October 7, 1950, one son, Randy L. Booze of Centreville MD, three grandchildren, Michael K. Booze, Andrew R. Booze, and Jennifer E. Booze, two brothers, C. Leslie Booze of Cambridge and Jack J. Booze of Bethel, DE, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister Rebecca Adams and two brothers, Oscar M. Booze, Jr. and Dwight C. Booze.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock by Rev. Barry L. Miller. Burial will take place in Old Trinity Churchyard. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday night, 7:30 to 9. Memorials may be made to the Family Youth Center of the Cambridge Wesleyan Church, c/o Paulette Meekins,1108 Race St., Cambridge MD 21613.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck Booze, Michael Booze, Andy Booze, Ricky Bradshaw, Nick Willey and Leonard Pritchard. Honorary pallbearers will be Cook Todd, Wilbur Newcomb, Dick Bradshaw, Burton Satterfield, Dave Nickerson, and Tom Collins.

Bachman, Joseph S.

Joseph S. Bachman, 79, of Salisbury died Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Salisbury Center: Genesis Elder Care. Born February 23, 1922 in Rochester, MN., Mr. Bachman was raised in Bristol, TN. He was the son of the late Harry Wilson and Agnes Hanson Bachman.

Mr. Bachman was a graduate of Davidson College and U.N.C. Chapel Hill. He was a professor of History and retired from Salisbury State University as Associate Dean of the graduate school. He was a veteran of World War II.

Joe was an avid tennis player and a lover of jazz and classical music.

Mr. Bachman was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Elizabeth White Bachman, and a sister, Ann Bachman. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sidney Elizabeth and Douglas R. Muir, his twin granddaughters, Julia Hanson and Caroline LaForce Muir, all of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother and sister, Dr. Harry W. Bachman and Agnes Bachman Cowan, both of Bristol, TN., and several nephews and nieces.

Burial will take place at a later date at Mountainview cemetery, Bristol, VA. Friends may call at the home of Paula and Ron Johnson, 1301 Woodland Road, from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, July 31, 2001.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury,MD. 21802-1733 or The Salisbury Symphony Orchestra, Room 244, Fulton Hall, Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD. 21801.

Angus, Rema Hayman

Rema Hayman Angus, 101, of Salisbury, died Monday, July 23, 2001 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care. Born Fruitland, MD, she was the daughter of the late James Asbury Hayman and Ellen Alverta Howse Hayman. Her husband, William Angus preceded her in death.

She is survived by two nieces, Beverly Rickard Edwards of McLean, VA and Margaret Hayman Ensor of Snow Hill, MD; and one nephew, Mitchel Hayman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Albert Hayman and two sisters: Florence Hayman and Cleo Rickard.

A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2001 at 1 PM at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, VA. Mr. Larry Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be July 31, 2001 from 2 to 4 PM at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Salisbury Center-Genesis Elder Care, 200 Civic Ave, Salisbury, MD 21804.

Phillips, Daveena McConnell

Daveena McConnell Phillips, 64, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2001 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Madge and Herbert Blakely McConnell.

Daveena grew up in Union, NJ where she was very active in many school and church activities. She graduated from Wesley College in Dover, De, where she also represented Dover in the Miss Delaware Pageant. Daveena and Tom have lived in Salisbury for over 30 years. She was a secretary for the Wicomico County Board of Education for 30 years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for several years. She was active in Community Singers for 20 years and The Community Players for several years. She was also a member of the Teacher’s Retirement System, the Nation Multiple Sclerosis Association, and the Association of Retired People.

Daveena was a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all who befriended her. It is Daveena’s wish to include herein many thank to all those family and friends whom she came in contact with and who actually all helped to make her life full and rewarding. She has had multiple sclerosis for 16 years and a recent bout with cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Thomas H. Phillips of Salisbury; two sons, Mark Thomas Phillips, his wife, “Scottie” and their children, Blakely and Margaret Phillips of Franklin, VA.; Scott Matthew Phillips and his wife, Cynthia K. Phillips, their daughter, Kennedy Phillips and son Matthew Phillips who reside in Salisbury. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Lachenauer and husband, Robert, who reside in Basking Ridge, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at 11 AM at Christ United Methodist Church on Phillip Morris Drive in Salisbury. Calling hours will be from 10:30 to 11 AM. The Rev. Tom Hurley will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Maryland Chapter, 207 Maryland Ave., Suite 4, Salisbury, MD 21801.

Reynolds, Kathryn Elizabeth

Kathryn Elizabeth Reynolds, 89, of Salisbury, died Thursday, August 2, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Harrison Weldon.

Mrs. Reynolds retired May 3, 1972 from the Teamsters Union Local 876 as a bookkeeper. She liked to travel, read, and crochet. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Paul B. Reynolds of Salisbury; two children and their spouses: Shirley K. and William Weiland of Chance, MD and Robert J. and Diane Reynolds Sr. of Lawrenceville, GA; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Kathy and Rodney Pebley of Peru, Nebraska, Debi and Don Rus of Parsonsburg, Bill and Chaille Weiland of Eden, Kimberly and Allen Norman of Eden, Christy and Gary Rainey of Chicago, Il; Robin and Mark Crosby of Georgia and Robert and Kelly Reynolds Jr. of Georgia; a cousin who was like a sister, Kath Cobb of Cape May, NY; cousin, Walter Pedrick of Fairview, NJ; and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Ronald Reynolds who died May 1994.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 6, 2001 at 11 AM at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Linwood “Sonny” Benton Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron, MD.

Johnson, Della Mae

Della Mae Johnson,78 of Delmar, died Friday, July 13, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Athol, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Virginia Ryan Gullette. Her husband, Robert L. Johnson preceded her in death in 1987.

She retired after working 30 + years for Manhatten Shirt Factory. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Delmar. She was an avid gardener who especially loved flowers and the outdoors.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Lee Williamson and her husband, Jerry A. of Ocean Pines; two grandchildren, Kevin P. Todd of Princess Anne and Lisa R. Leto of Delmar, MD; four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Norene Gillis of Delmar, MD, Stella Ellis of Laurel, DE and Joan Adkins of Salisbury; one brother, Lemuel “Junior” Gullette of Seaford, DE and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Donna Mead and Baby Boy Mead and two sisters, Margie Adkins and Shelbourne Gullette.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Holloway Funeral Home, where friends may called from 12:00-2:00 PM. The Rev. Barry Devine officiated. Interment was in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, 800 East Main Street, Salisbury, MD 21801 or First Baptist Church of Delmar, Bi-State Blvd. And Walnut Street, Delmar, MD 21875.

Suiter, Albany Lee

Albany Lee Suiter, 81, of Silver Spring, MD, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, MD. Born in Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Emory and Ellen Price Arnett. Her husband, Ulysses Grant Suiter died in 1993.

Mrs. Suiter enjoyed collecting commemorative plates. She was a very devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Eddie L. and Christine Suiter of Olney, MD; a daughter-in-law, Trudy S. Suiter of Eden, MD; two grandchildren, Larry G. Suiter and Michelle Suiter both of North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie G. Suiter, who died in 1999; and three sisters: Stella Saunders, Florence Bowers, and Minnie Adams.

A funeral service was held Monday, July 9, 2001 at 11 AM at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Rev. R. Joe Lynch will officiated. Entombment was in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Johnson, Elton Watson

Elton “Prim” Watson Johnson, 100, of Pocomoke City, MD, died Monday, August 6, 2001, at his residence of cancer.

Born August 4, 1901, in Oak Hall, VA, he was the son of the late Edgar and Aria Mae Ardis Johnson. His first wife, Sadie F. Johnson, preceded him in death December 2, 1975.

He was a member of the Beaver Dam Presbyterian Church and the Lions Club for 47˝ years in Pocomoke City. Mr. Johnson was a member of the VanSant Club as a result of his long term employment with Delmarva Power & Light Company from which he retired on July 1, 1971, after 34 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby T. Johnson of Pocomoke City; a daughter, Lola Ricks of Hanover, PA; a stepdaughter, Joy Wilson Trader and her husband Jeff of Pocomoke City; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. A daughter, Betty Lee Bell; a sister, Lola Mae Johnson and a great-grandson preceded him in death.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2001, at 11:00 am at the Bethany United Methodist cemetery, Third Street, Pocomoke City, MD. The Rev. Lois Lehman will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Richard Hughes
