Robert L. Hunt

Robert Lee Hunt, infant son of Juel D. Hunt and Kristi L. Shoop of Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Lashawna Hunt, Tiana Hunt and Shaienne Hunt, all at home; maternal grandmother, Charolette M. Phelps of Lakemont, Fla.; and paternal grandmother, Rita Chambers of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert L. Shoop; paternal grandfather, Matthew Hunt; and one half brother, Jayvon J. Hunt.

Private graveside services will be in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown. Sister Kathy Farley-Reed will officiate. Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

Elmer Jarrett Cross

Elmer Jarrett "Jake" Cross, 85, of Wayne Avenue in Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Julia Manor Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 17, 1921, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Bashor Anderson Cross and Mary Jane (Taylor) Cross. He served in the 96th Naval Construction Battalion Seabees during World War II. He was a professional car restorer and painter. He worked with many car dealerships in Cumberland, and was owner and operator of "Jake's Body Shop." He retired from Local 616 Laborers International Union out of Cumberland in 1974. His last employment was with "Texas Eastern" in Garrett County, Md., on the pipeline. He was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church in Cumberland. He was a member of the American Legion and the L.O.O. Moose. He was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ada G. Robison Cross; two daughters, Barbara Ewald and husband, Jack, and Joan Weisenmiller and husband, Chuck; son-in-law, Warren Watts; grandchildren, John Ewald, David Ewald, Michelle Ewald Hurwitz, Keith Watts, Deborah Watts Jenkins, Scott Weisenmiller and Christine Weisenmiller Eberhart; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Cross Watts.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jack Ewald, Mr. Cross' son-in law, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Victoria Starnes, granddaughter-in-law, and the Rev. Warren Watts, son-in-law. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard and the Hagerstown AMVETS.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Ewald, David Ewald, Scott Weisenmiller, Keith Watts, Mark Hurwitz, Brian Eberhart and Terry Jenkins. The family would like to thank Meadow Dialysis for the wonderful care they have given him for the last 4 1/2 years and also express their gratitude and appreciation to Julia Manor staff, and especially the third floor, for their loving care. They were an extended family for him. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Michael Joyce Poffenberger

Michael Joyce "Miss Mike" Poffenberger, 63 of Waynesboro, passed away, Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at her residence.

Born on October 28, 1942 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, Leo Edward and Mary Ellen (Wilson) Clem. Mrs. Poffenberger was a member of the Real Life Community Church, Hagerstown. She was employed as a reprint sorter at Fuji Color Film Processing in Williamsport. She is survived by one daughter, Laurie A. Long of Waynesboro; four sons, Jacob B. Poffenberger of Downsville, Michael E. Poffenberger of Clear Spring, Kurt J. Poffenberger of Hagerstown and Neal T. Poffenberger of Quincey, foster daughter, Barbara Ann; one sister, Christie A. Gouff of Lovettsville, VA; seven grandchildren, Brett, Nicholas, Desiree, Lily, Lindsey, Miranda and Brooke; two great grandchildren, Hailey and Wyatt and many many friends. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Dustin. At her request her body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with the Rev. James Chevalier officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Real Life Community Church, 700 Frederick St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Judy Ann Patterson

Judy Ann Patterson, 55, of Hagerstown, died, Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.

Born on September 17, 1950 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Paul Junior Gearhart and the late Ruth Anna (Brechbill) Gearhart. Judy was a graduate of Chambersburg High School. She was employed as a Shift Supervisor at the Sheetz store on Potomac St. She is survived by her husband, David L. Patterson; one daughter, Amanda L. Patterson of Hagerstown; one son, Richard H. Gatrell of Hagerstown; three sisters, Sheryl Yohe, Nancy Dehart and Effie Gearhart, all of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Patterson.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Alvin A. Craig, officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 7-9 P.M.

Annabelle Hensley

Annabelle Hensley, 80, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, May 5, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born on Nov. 3, 1925, in Pennington Point, Ill., she was the daughter of the late John C. and Nellie Ruthe Farr. She had worked as a key punch operator for Caterpillar Co. in Peoria, Ill., and for the Frick Co. in Waynesboro, Pa. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Hagerstown. She is survived by her husband, Hobert W. Hensley; one daughter, Nancy L. Crouse of Martinsburg, W.Va.; four sisters, Mable L. Ellis, Eleanor VanDerWall and Vernadeen Cook, all of Canton, Ill., and Bernadeen Ramberger of Muscatie, Iowa; two brothers, Dale H. Farr and Dalmer E. Farr, both of Canton; and one granddaughter, Lisa Ann Patterson. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Alvey M. Long; and by one sister, Verla Farr.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dean P. Pryor officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Harvey Dailey Edmund Nelson

Harvey Dailey Edmund Nelson, 49, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1956, in Landshut, Germany, he was the son of Eva M. Nelson of Hagerstown and the late Harvey D. Ball. He was employed as a carpet installer. He is survived by three sisters, Lydia Nelson of Hagerstown, Melleta Ingram of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Karen Jordan of Boonsboro; one brother, Ernest Nelson of Hagerstown; nieces; and nephews.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Chris Moore will officiate. Private inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.

Gerald Edgar Brant

Gerald Edgar Brant, 81, of Hagerstown, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 28, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Roy and Lulu Downs Brant. He retired in 1987 after 32 years as a police officer with the Western Maryland Railway. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of AARP and F.O.P. of Hagerstown. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Helga J. Graf Brant; two daughters, Sue Nolan of Clear Spring, and Diane Brant of Hagerstown; one son, Gerald D. Brant of Clear Spring; one sister, Helen Wingerd of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorraine Snyder, Betty Hull and Genevieve Jones; and two brothers, Pete Brant and Don Brant.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven cemetery Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Katherine Lippy will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Maryland State Veterans Council. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Edith Francis Stine

Edith Francis Stine, 81, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Blue Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Charles Town, W.Va.

Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Cora Pearl Smith King. Her husband, John L. Stine, preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one daughter, Joann Winebrenner of Hagerstown; one son, Gerald T. Stine of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Donald R. King of Maugansville and Robert S. King of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard W. Stine; one sister, Alice L. Martin; two brothers, Henry K. King and Alfred L. King; and one granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward J. Wade will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Dorothy E. Gerardi

Dorothy E. Gerardi, 73, of Hagerstown died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at her home.

Born July 26, 1932, in Blawnox, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Sophie Kissel Boris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William J. Gerardi, in 2003. She was employed for 13 years at the Hagerstown Trust Co., as a customer service representative, and worked part-time as a meetings receptionist for Weight Watchers International. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Hagerstown, the Catholic Daughters Court Hagerstown 273 and Mack Golden Bulldogs. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Gerardi of Hagerstown; three sons, Joseph J. Gerardi and his wife, Gail, of Dryden, N.Y., David W. Gerardi of Satsuma, Fla., and John M. Gerardi and his wife, Karina, and granddaughter, Daniela, of Laurel, Md.; three sisters, Mary Ann Jerich and her husband, Donald, of Cheswick, Pa., Grace U. Boris of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Nancy E. Misicko and her husband, Marty, also of Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by an infant son, William Joseph Gerardi Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown on Monday, May 22, 2006, at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. George A. Limmer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Friends will be received at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Western Maryland Center, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Doris L. White

Doris L. White (nee Knadler), 86, of 216 S. Mont Valla Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 14, 2006, at home.

Born in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Knadler and the late Carrie Fawver Knadler. She was married for 29 years to the late Earl M. White. Mrs. White worked for over 20 years as a nurse's aide at Washington County Hospital until her retirement in 1985. In her fifties, she took up spelunking as a member of the Explorer's Club. She had a true artistic talent which was evidenced in her painting, photography, gardening and crocheting. She lived a long, full life as a breast cancer survivor and was a member of Bible Brethren Church in Hagerstown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Knadler and Charles Knadler. Mrs. White is survived by her daughter, Lois F. Shaffer of Clifton Heights, Pa.; her two sons, Donald L. White (Sheran) of Halfway, Md., and Bradley S. White (Sue) of Hagerstown, Md.; her sister Bernadine Rick of Martinsburg; her brother, Roy Knadler (Joyce) of Charles Town, W.Va.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nephews; and a niece.

Friends and relatives are invited to her funeral services Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Viewing and visitation will be held at 10 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Rest Haven cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Andrew Ellsworth McCarty

Andrew Ellsworth "Andy" McCarty, 60, of Hagerstown, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 10, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Andrew Leroy and Sylvia I. Berneker McCarty. He was employed as a laborer at Martin's Storage in Hagerstown. He is survived by two sisters, Claudia Suffecool and Linda Dawson, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Seibert McCarty of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia A. Baumgarten.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Pastor Bobby Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gordon L. Cox Jr.

Gordon Lee Cox Jr., 54, of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born March 6, 1952, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Gordon Lee Cox Sr. and Geraldine Palmer Zimmerman Cox. He was a member of Paramount Brethren Church in Hagerstown. He worked as a laborer on a farm. He was a member of the Pro Bowlers Association of Hagerstown. He is survived by three children, Geraldine I. Haines, Gennifer E. Johnson and Gordon L. Cox III, all of Hagers-town; two sisters, Anna Hiser of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Joanne Baker of Hagerstown; three brothers, Raymond Cox of Martinsburg, Rick Cox of Pennsylvania, and Jackie Cox of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Grover C. Beggarly

Grover Cleveland "Bill" Beggarly, 82, of Pittsburgh, passed away, Friday, June 16, 2006 at KindredHospital, Oakdale, PA.

Born on July 28, 1923 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Cleveland G. and Bessie P. (Lloyd) Beggarly. Mr. Beggarly retired from Fairchild where he worked as a Lead Man. He was a US Army veteran of WW II.He is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Brown of Falls Church, VA and Barbara B. Jackson of Grasonville, MD; two sons, Steven W. Beggarly and Barry C. Beggarly, both of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Gladys Roe of Baltimore, Betty Jones of Bel Air and Dorothy Morgan of Hagerstown; ten grandchildren, Carol Thompson, Vivki Mathna, Pamela Mathna, David Hovermale, Lisa Jackson-Cherry, Stephanie Ioli, Bryan Beggarly, Barry Beggarly, Jr., Jason Beggarly and Kristopher Beggarly and thirteen great grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Richard F. Beggarly.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.Interment will follow in RestHavencemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Veterans Honor Guard. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to services from 10 - 11 A.M. M. Elaine Frank

M. Elaine Frank, 81, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 28, 1925, in Shickshinny, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Mabel A. Bridle Stout. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Frank. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown. She was a member of Kiwanis Club, Interstate Coin Club and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary, all of Hagerstown. She is survived by her special companion, George M. "Jack" Frost of Hagerstown; five children, Paulette Chaney of Clear Spring, Ronald Frank of Alexandria, Va., Richard Frank of Columbia, Md., Rodney Frank of Manassas, Va., and Pam Adkins of North Carolina; one sister, Charlotte Walsh of Hagerstown; one brother, Tom Stout of Malibu, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. G. David Shreeves will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Ronald H. Wood

Ronald Hugh "Ronnie" Wood, 58, of Hobe Sound and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, June 23, 2006, at his home.

Born May 21, 1948, in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of Merle Hugh Morrison of Clearwater, Fla., and Ruth Irene Criss Wood of Hagerstown. He was a 1966 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. He was a Catholic. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sons, Ronald P. Wood of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Christopher L. Wood of North Carolina and Sean M. Wood of Jensen Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Dawn A. Drooger of Williamsport and Lisa A. Knepper of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201.

James M. Danner Sr.

James "Jim" M. Danner Sr., 75, of State Line, Pa., beloved husband, cherished father and honored grandfather, departed this life on June 26, 2006, at his home.
Born Dec. 20, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Wilbert A. and Achsa M. Moffett Danner. James worked in the construction industry for 39 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of First Christian Church of Hagerstown, a Christian youth leader, Scout leader, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, Marine sergeant, mentor and friend to many in his community, workplace and family. He is survived by his wife, Clara Barnhart Danner; loving children, James Jr. and Loretta Danner, Clara Catherine and Thomas Winters, and Charles and Lara Danner; nine grandchildren, Laura Winters McLaughlin, Charles Danner Jr., James Danner III, Achsa Danner Cress, Joseph Danner, Joshua Danner, Jeremy Danner, Jeremy Watson and Michael Winters; two great-grandchildren, Faith Gloria Cress and Eva Catherine McLaughlin; one sister, Frances Keadle; and one brother, Roger Danner. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one brother, William Danner.

The family will receive friends at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, on Friday, June 30, 2006, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service to begin at 8 p.m. with the Rev. G. David Shreeves, Lay Pastor Jerry Norris and Lay Pastoral Care Giver Cal Scholl officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of one's choice.

Henry H. Jeter

Henry Huston Jeter, 88, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Julia Manor.

Born May 3, 1918, in Rogersville, Tenn., he was the son of the late John Herman Jeter and Elizabeth Cross Jeter. He was a resident of Washington County for 62 years. He attended the Church of God in Mercersburg, Pa. Mr. Jeter was the founder of H. Jeter Blacktop and retired in 1973. Also, he retired in 1980 after 25 years of dedicated service to the Western Maryland Railway. He is survived by his wife, Reba K. Jeter; children, a son, Ronald Huston Jeter of Hagerstown, and daughters, Geraldine Mae Jeter Andrews of Garland, Texas, and Joyce Ann Jeter Jones of Calgary, Canada, daughter-in-law, Hinda Jeter of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine brothers, Herman Jeter and Daney Jeter of Lennon, Mich., John Ferrall, Nelson Jeter and Harvey Jeter, all of Tennessee, J.R. Jeter of Ohio, Linton C. Jeter of South Carolina, Kenneth Jeter of New York, and David Jeter of Hagerstown; one sister, Shirley Novak of Michigan; stepson, Billy Brandt of Hagerstown; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Henry Jeter was preceded in death by sons, Harold Dean Jeter and Jimmy Jeter; sisters, Ella Helton, Goldie Silcox, Nola Jeter and Ollie Mae Plaster; and brothers, Jewel Robert Jeter, Guy Jeter and Carson Jeter.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 3, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, where family and friends may call one hour prior to services at Rest Haven Chapel. Pastor David L. Moore of the Church of God in Mercersburg will officiate. Interment will follow the services in Rest Haven cemetery. An informal gathering will be held for friends and family following the interment. It will be at Rest Haven Reception Center located next to the chapel. Margaret L. Hoover

Margaret Louise "Peggy" Hoover, 68, of Warfordsburg, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Hoover; one daughter, Roberta Bawblitz of McConnellsburg, Pa.; two sons, Glenn L. Ruck Jr. of Hagerstown, and Florian F. Kelly of Baltimore; one sister, Bonnie M. Bishop of Hagerstown; one brother, Elmer R. Miller Jr. of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Elmer R. Miller Sr.; and one daughter.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hoover family in care of Glenn L. Ruck, 16226 McGregor Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Peggy M. Turner

Peggy Marlene Turner, 71, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born June 17, 1934, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jetson Upton Pryor and Violet Drury Pryor Koontz. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. "Jack" Turner.
She had worked as a cook for local restaurants, including the Snow White Grill. She was a Protestant.
She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 211 of Funkstown.
She is survived by two sons, Steve W. Turner and Randy J. Turner, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Rose Gaither of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, Kenny Koontz of Greencastle, Pa.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, William Turner.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. Friends will be received Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
