Mrs. Alice Fritz
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mrs. Alice Cook Fritz, 93, of 177 W. Main St., New Market, died Wednesday, April 11, at Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport.

She was the wife of the late Jack Albert Fritz.

Born June 24, 1907, in Viroqua, Wis., she was a daughter of the late Everett and Mae Doll Cook.

Mrs. Fritz retired from Westminster Community Hospital, Westminster, Calif.

She was a member of Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Surviving are two sons, James L. Fritz of Ashland, Ore., and Jerrold E. Fritz of New Market; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Fritz was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean Fritz; two sisters, Irene Hagele and Dorothy Ochs; and one brother, Edward Cook.

There will be no viewing.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Mr. Harold Keyser
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mr. Harold Theodore Keyser I, 71, of 318 W. North St., Waynesboro, Pa., formerly of 4704 Herman Hauver Road, Foxville, died of heart failure Wednesday, April 11, at his home. He had been in failing health since 1995.

He was the husband of Margaret Ann Kuhn Keyser, whom he married Feb. 28, 1959, in Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.

Born July 13, 1929, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Sellers and Mable I. Lynch Wesley.

Mr. Keyser spent his early life in the Greencastle, Pa. area and graduated from Greencastle High School in 1947.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Keyser first worked for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown, then Mel Par in Virginia, then Vitro Lab in Rockville, then Grove Manufacturing, Shady Grove, Pa., and prior to retiring in 1992, worked as a quality control specialist and in management for Fort Howard in Baltimore.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 695, Waynesboro; Edwin G. Creager Jr., American Legion Post 168, Thurmont; and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sisters, Patricia Fleagle of Fannettsburg, Pa., and Janet Yeager and Linda Davis, both of Waynesboro; one brother, Charles Keyser of Shippensburg, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Keyser was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Marie Keyser, in 1959; one son, Harold T. Keyser II, in 1994; one sister, Cynthia Fleagle; and two brothers, Carl Keyser and John Keyser.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. John D. Fickett officiating.

Interment, with military honors provided by members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Honor Guard Post 1599, Chambersburg, will be in Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, 152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Mrs. Margaret Burdette
Dated: Friday, April 13, 2001.
Mrs. Margaret Ann Burdette, 87, of Gaithersburg, died Wednesday, April 11, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Orin Foster Burdette Sr.

Born Dec. 22, 1913, in Dickerson, she was a daughter of the late Lash and Molly Edith Bussard Redmon.

Mrs. Burdette enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Surviving are 10 children, Orin F. Burdette Jr. and wife Rosemary of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Robert L. Burdette Sr. and wife Sharon of Gaithersburg, Bertha V. Poole and husband Eddie of Gaithersburg, Upton D. Burdette Sr. and wife Patty of Bakerton, W.Va., Donald Eugene Burdette and wife Wanda of Keymar, Linda M. Roberts and husband Denny of Mount Airy, and Billy, James, Robert and Larry Bradshaw; 31 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Mrs. Burdette was preceded in death by two sons, John David Burdette Sr. and Elvin Lester Burdette Sr.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, in Boyds Presbyterian Church cemetery, Whiteground Road, Boyds.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boyds Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 320, Boyds, Md. 20840.

Arrangements are by Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville.

Mr. Edward Florance Sr.
Dated: Friday, April 6, 2001.
Mr. Edward Lee Florance Sr., 85, of Taney Village Apartments, Frederick, formerly of St. Mary's County, died Sunday, March 25, at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walkersville.

He was the husband of Eva Florance, who died in 1984.

Born Oct. 15, 1915, in Warrenton, Va., he was the son of William Logan and Dora Frances Lunsford Florance.

He was a homebuilder in the Lexington Park and Hollywood areas for many years.

He was a member of National Federation of the Blind, a 50 year member of Lexington Park Lions Club, and Lexington Park Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He is survived by two sons, Joseph A. Florance of Annapolis, and Edward Lee Florance Jr.; one brother, Wilson W. Florance of Bethesda; one sister, Frances Rebecca Meese of Oakland; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurston Florance and Ray Florance; and one sister, Elsie Miller.

Per his request, he donated his body to science.

A memorial service will be held April 22, at 2 p.m. at Taney Village Apartments, 1421 Taney Ave., Frederick.

Mrs. Glenna Zimmerman
Dated: Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Mrs. Glenna Mildred Smith Zimmerman, 83, of Brooklawn Apartments, 1001 Carroll Parkway, Frederick, died Sunday, April 1, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington.

She was the wife of Charles Elias Zimmerman, who died in December 1990.

Born July 6, 1917, in Dayton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Opal E. Palmer Smith.

As an infant her family moved from Ohio to Union Bridge, where she was raised and went to school.

She for many years worked on the family farm with her husband, and later they owned and operated Zimmerman's Market on Jefferson Street in Frederick. After they closed the market, she worked as a hostess for Watson's Restaurant for more than 25 years.

She was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Feagaville.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Zimmerman of Feagaville, and Charles R. Zimmerman and wife Carol of Frederick; one daughter, Betty L. Baumgardner and husband Gary of Point of Rocks; three brothers, Charles Smith of Indiana, and Robert Smith and Raymond Smith, both of Dayton; four sisters, Alice Wilmoth of Tennessee, and Edith Stein, Thelma Reynolds and Doris Smart, all of Ohio; six grandchildren, T. Scott Zimmerman, Janie S. Felton, Deby L. Hankey, Richard W. Zimmerman, Margaret R. Danner and Mary E. Baumgardner; 11 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kyle, Megan, Bailey and Marley Zimmerman, Thaddeus and Sarah Felton, Caitlin, Josh and Justin Hankey and Amanda Danner.

She will also be remembered by friend, Marion Deverux of Feagaville.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lewis, Thomas, Donald and Richard Smith; and four sisters, Hazel Cody, Eleanor Warner, Viola Smith and Jean Smith.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 4, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at the funeral home. The Rev. John F. Bromhal, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Lerry W. Fogle, associate pastor of Frederick Church of the Brethren, will officiate.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 5524 Feagaville Lane, Frederick, Md. 21703; or to American Heart Association Memorials and Tributes, P.O. box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.

Mr. Hugh Sheriff
Dated: Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Mr. Hugh Michael Sheriff, 40, of Brunswick, died Monday, April 2, at his home.

Born Dec. 31, 1960, in Washington, he was the son of Roger H. Sheriff and wife Betty of Winchester, Va., and Marletta Philley and husband Henry of Granbury, Texas.

In addition to his parents and stepparents, he is survived by three children, Melissa A. Sheriff, Shawn M. Sheriff and Roger Hugh Sheriff, all of Weatherford, Texas; three sisters, Sondra M. Sheriff and Marlene L. Sheriff, both of Brunswick, and Tina D. Kapp of Winchester; and one brother, Sam J. Stephens of Laurel.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Wednesday, April 4, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Lindsey Funeral Home, 473 S. Main St., Harrisonburg, Va., at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5.

Interment will be in Dayton cemetery, Virginia.

Mr. Odell Flanary
Dated: Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
Mr. Odell Arnold Flanary, 70, of Rockville, died at his residence Thursday, March 29.

Born June 6, 1930, in Scott County, Va., he was a son of the late Marshall and Iva Thomas Flanary.

He is survived by five children, Debbie Carle of Germantown, Michael Flanary of Charles Town, W.Va., David Flanary of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Steven Flanary of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Jeff Flanary; four brothers, Harold Flanary of Tennessee, Billy Joe Flanary of Seattle, Wash., Tom Flanary of Virginia, and Frank Flanary of Tennessee; four sisters, Opal Baugher and Georgia Masser, both of Virginia, Barbara Winpigler of Frederick, and Frances Moyers of Tennessee; and numerous grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, Wednesday, April 4, from noon until time of services at 1 p.m.

Mr. Albert Sprankle Jr.
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Albert Clifford "Laddy" Sprankle Jr., 58, of Cape Coral, Fla., died Monday, April 2, at his father's home.

Born July 31, 1942, in Frederick, he was a son of Albert Clifford Sprankle Sr. of Frederick, and Erma Estelle Ramsburg, who died in June 1999.

Mr. Sprankle served 20 years with the U.S. Air Force.

He had a bachelor of science degree from the University of Houston and two associate in science degrees, one from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, and another from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

He was also an executive with Cushman and Wakefield, a national real estate company.

He was a member of the Institute of Real Estate Management, San Antonio Board of Realtors, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are six children, David Lamar Sprankle of Hedgesville, W.Va., Joseph Bryan Sprankle of Columbus, Ohio, Michael Allen Sprankle and wife Marcia of Greensboro, and Andrew Thomas Sprankle and wife Jennifer, Stephanie Eileen Sprankle and Laura Estelle Sprankle, all of Tampa; three grandchildren, Alexandra Elizabeth Anne Sprankle, Julie Faith Sprankle and Maverick D. Sprankle; six brothers and sisters, Patricia Ann Fulkoski of Pasadena, Thomas William Sprankle of Haslett, Texas, Michael Joseph Sprankle of Goosecreek, S.C., Peter Andrew Sprankle of Frederick, Margaret Mary Hersh of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeffrey Christopher Sprankle of Chula Vista, Calif.

Mr. Sprankle was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Deborah Kimberly Sprankle and Heather Jo Sprankle.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick, with the Rev. Wayne Funk as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. John's cemetery, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740, and/or Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Mr. Leonard Hornick
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Leonard Charles Hornick, 79, of Baltimore, died Saturday, March 31, at Veterans Hospital, Baltimore.

He was the husband of Dorothy May Linkswiler Hornick, his wife of 48 years.

Born March 1, 1922, in Baltimore, he was a son of the late Leonard Charles and Winifred Hornick Sr.

Mr. Hornick had been employed many years as a glass installer with Hyattsville Auto Glass.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Army and from 1951 to 1955 in the U.S. Air Force. He received the Bronze Star and Medal of Valor while serving during the European/African Campaign.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, David L. Hornick of Milton, Fla., Carol Clauss and husband Thomas, and Deborah L. Combs and husband Lynn, all of Thurmont, and Larry E. Hornick of Baltimore; eight grandchildren, David M. Hornick, Jennifer S. Hornick and Rebecca L. Hornick, all of Milton, Fla., Jason A. McDaniel of Baltimore, and Dorothy M. Sias, Ryan M. Hornick, Michael J. Grimes Jr. and James E. Grimes, all of Thurmont; one sister, Edith Hubert of Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Linda Lambert, pastor of Thurmont Church of the Brethren, officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family, c/o Deborah L. Combs, 102 Dogwood Ave., Thurmont, Md. 21788.
