The U.S. Army awarded him the Bronze Star for Valor, the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, The United States Victory Medal, The European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, three Overseas Service Bars, and The U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal. He was mustered out of the service Nov. 6, 1945, and returned home to Newton, Wis., where he married his wife and raised four children, Leland, Kathleen, Debbie and David, who gave him 11 grandchildren, all currently living in Wisconsin.

After the war, George became a truck driver for North American Van Lines and remained with them until his divorce, at which time he moved to Miles City, Mont., and subsequently to Yuma, Ariz., where he remained until 1974. He married Emma Jenny Ohlson April 15, 1972, and remained in Yuma until moving back to Montana in 1974.

Then, with the help of the GI bill and the inspiration of an admiral with whom he came to work closely during the war, he achieved a bachelor's in accounting and then passed the CPA exam.

Success in his professional life -- Jesse retired as senior vice president of finance -- facilitated greater involvement in two passions, Christian education and farming. From the latter, he obtained the satisfaction of renewing memories of his childhood, but the former provided a return that we can never measure.

A firm but committed Christian husband, father, and grandfather, Jesse would fully endorse the family's invitation to every well-wisher to present gifts in lieu of flowers to the Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, PA 17211 or Asbury College's new ACHIEVE Program in Orlando.
