Darren L. Johnson

Master Darren L. Johnson, 3, of Fairfax, died on February 25, 2005 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax.
He was the son of Dexter and Theresa Johnson.
Brother of Enyria Johnson.
Services were held on Thursday at the Church of the Redeemer in Gaithersburg.
Interment was in Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring.

Charles G. Fowler, Jr.

Mr. Charles G. Fowler, Jr., 70, of Barnesville, died on Monday February 21, 2005 at his residence.
He was the loving husband of 49 years of Dorothy J. Fowler.
Born on March 18, 1934 in Omar, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Jennie Anderson Fowler, Sr..
Mr. Fowler was a member of the Barnesville Baptist Church.
Surviving besides his wife are his two children; Donna Cornett and husband Billy of Union Bridge, Chuck Fowler and wife Corby of Frederick, his brothers and sisters; Dorothy E. Davidson and husband John of Dickerson, Virginia M. Gravely of Kensington, William Fowler and wife Mary of Colonial Beach, Virginia, Martha I. Reed and husband William of Emmitsburg, Robert H. Fowler and wife Cindy of Comus, Franklin F. Fowler and wife Jane of Barnesville, James E. Fowler and wife Pauline of Dickerson, Howard Fowler and wife Bonnie of Dickerson, Harry Fowler of Dickerson, Ruth A. Stambaugh and husband Larry of Emmitsburg, Rosa E. Bollinger and husband Voine Lee of Hagerstown, Carl Fowler of Emmitsburg, Wilmer Joe Fowler of Adamstown, Kenneth E. Shumaker and wife Jeanne of Boyds and three grandchildren; Tina Cornett, Nicholas and Alyssa Fowler.
The family would like to extend thanks to the thoughtful kindnesses and help given by Sidney Earle and Robert Deadrick both of Barnesville.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday February 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., (Rt. 109), Barnesville .
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday February 26 at the Barnesville Baptist Church, 17917 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD 20838.
Rev. Joe Ivey of the Barnesville Baptist Church will officiate.
Bearers will be; Robert Deadrick, Sidney Earle, Frank Fowler, Sr., Frank Fowler, Jr., Robert Fowler and Howard Fowler.
Honorary bearers will be; Bill Cross, Phil Thorne, Ralph Cooley, Jim Cole, Doug Swank and Frankie Ennis.
Interment will follow in the Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Barnesville Baptist Church.

Ernest C. Barnhouse

Mr. Ernest C. Barnhouse, 63, of Sharpsburg, died on Monday February 21, 2005 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
He was the husband of 19 years of Linda Carter Barnhouse.
Born in Germantown on August 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Virgil C. and Ethel Lowe Barnhouse.
Surviving besides his wife are his children; Martin Carter, Sr., Margaret Myers, Janet L. Barnhouse, Christie A. Davis, Kenneth J. Barnhouse, 2 brothers, 1 sister and 7 grandchildren.
He will also be remembered by his father-in-law, Richard Green, Sr., his devoted sister-in-law Eva Carter and husband Wayne and Becky Carter Grimes.
Mr. Barnhouse was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday February 24 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., (Rt. 109), Barnesville . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment will be in Laytonsville United Methodist Church cemetery, Laytonsville.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Betty J. Norris

Mrs. Betty J. Norris, 61, of Frederick, died on Wednesday February 16, 2005 at her daughter's residence in Hagerstown.
She was the wife of the late Walter K. Norris.
Born on September 4, 1943 in Sabillasville, she was the daughter of the late Carmel and Frances Fox Smith, Sr.
Surviving are her children; Brenda L. Ward, John W. Norris, Joseph M. Norris, Julie M. Norris all of Hagerstown, three sisters; Ilene Myers and Shirley Herrell both of Frederick, Linda L. Ward of Damascus, two brothers; Dennis L. Smith of Sharpsburg, Clyde T. Smith of Florida, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen V. Williams and one brother, Carmel V. Smith, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday February 22 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville . The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the funeral.
Interment will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery, Sunshine.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

Carol A. Dutko

Mrs. Carol A. Dutko, 66, of Poolesville, MD died on Wednesday February 16, 2005 at her residence.
She was the wife of the late Harry A. Dutko.
Born on February 26, 1938 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late H. Clifford and Regina McCloskey Alder.
Surviving is one brother, Thomas Alder and wife Myrna of Ft. Washington, MD, two nephews, Thomas, Matthew and one niece, Elizabeth.
Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on Saturday February 19 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD .
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville, MD.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 4200 Harewood Rd., N.E., Washington, DC 20017.

Cecelia "Cece" E. Hersberger

Mrs. Cecelia "Cece" E. Hersberger, 88, of Barnesville, died Saturday February 12, 2005.
She was the wife of the late Jack A. Hersberger.
Born on February 7, 1917 in Forest Grove, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Sarah Whitmore Dronenburg.
Surviving is one daughter, Barbara J. Hersberger of Montgomery Village.
She was preceded in death by one son, John A. Hersberger, Jr., 2 brothers; Harry N. Dronenburg, George W. Dronenburg and one sister, M. Dorothy Dronenburg.
Family will receive friends on Friday February 18 from 6-9pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday February 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Rd., Barnesville.
Rev. George Reid, Pastor Emeritus of St. Mary's will officiate.
Bearers will be; Notley and Leonard Offutt, John Hunter, Tom Gibbons, Stephen Karpathy and Joseph Krempasky.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.

Helen Willard Pumphrey

Helen Willard Pumphrey, 97, of Poolesville, MD, died on April 5, 2005 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD.
Born in Poolesville, Maryland on March 30, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. Willard and Delma Dudrow.
After completing High School in Poolesville, she obtained a teaching degree from Towson Normal School in Towson, Maryland. While teaching, she later went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland. Mrs. Pumphrey taught school in the Montgomery County school system for 41 years. Her teaching career started in a one-room school in Germantown, Maryland, later teaching in Silver Spring and then returning to complete her career in her hometown of Poolesville.
She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Poolesville and the Rural Women's Republican Club.
Following her teaching career, she enjoyed many years traveling the world with her friends. Her travels took her to 78 different countries and 48 of the 50 U.S. states. She was an avid bridge player and continued that activity until just two weeks ago. She also devoted many hours to researching and documenting her family history and the history of the town of Poolesville.
She raised two nephews and one niece and is survived by them; Dewalt J. Willard of Frederick, MD, William G. Willard of Charlottesville, VA and Sarah Ann King of Gloucester, VA. Numerous great nephews and great nieces also survive her. Eddie Willard of Charlottesville, VA, Marsha Carum of Harpers Ferry, WV, Robert D. Willard of Chestertown, MD, William F. Willard of Poolesville, James M. Willard of Middletown, MD, Patricia F. Weiss of Charlotte, NC, David King of Bethesda, MD, Carol Watkins of Gaeta, Italy and Ginger Shaw of Bethesda.
She is also survived by numerous great, great nephews and nieces.
She is also remembered by several special friends; Dorothy Elgin of Poolesville, Marion Kirby of Washington, DC, Kathleen Thomas of Poolesville, Kamala Kethavath of North Carolina an Betty Allnutt of Poolesville.
The family will receive friends on Friday April 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., (Rt. 109), Barnesville, MD. .
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday April 9 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 20100 Fisher Ave., Poolesville, MD 20837.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, MD.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made in Helen's name to either St. Peter's Episcopal Church or the Monocacy cemetery, P.O. Box 81, Beallsville, MD 20839

Thelma Carter

Mrs. Thelma Carter, 86, of Burr Hill, Virginia, died on Saturday April 2, 2005 at the Culpeper Regional Hosptial in Culpeper, Virginia. She was the wife of the late Herbert Lee "Tuck" Carter. Services were held on Tuesday April 5, 2005 at the Darnestown Presbyterian Church in Darnestown. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Sara J. Wade

Mrs. Sara J. Wade, 87, of Germantown, died on Monday March 21, 2005 at the Casey House Hospice in Rockville.
She was the wife of Kevin Wade.
Born on August 24, 1917 in Dickerson, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Nellie Titus Jones.
Mrs. Wade was a 30 year member of the Mother Seton Catholic Parish in Germantown where she was very active.
Surviving besides her husband is one sister, Lena Brewer of Glen Burnie.
The family will receive friends on Saturday March 26 from 3-5 pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd., (Rt. 109), Barnesville .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday March 28 at the Mother Seton Parish, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd., in Germantown, with the family receiving friends from 9:30-10:45am.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Casey House, 6001 Muncaster Mill Road, Rockville, MD 20855.

Virginia M. Beach

Mrs. Virginia M. Beach, "Jenny", 80, of Brunswick, died on Saturday March 19, 2005 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick.
She was the wife of the late John Richard Beach.
Born on November 24, 1924 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Effie McDonough Davis.
Surviving are her children; Richard Beach and wife Linda of Thurmont, Veronica Grimes and husband David of Martinsburg, WV, Monica Funkhouser and husband Charlie of Brunswick, Teresa Finnegan and husband Ed of Martinsburg, WV, six grandchildren: Richard, Kristina, Melisa, Dale, Chastity, Danielle and four great grandchildren; Justin, Leigha, Taylor and Jolie.
Jenny was preceded in death by two sisters; Vealeria Nestor, Deania Beach, one brother, Leroy Davis and one sister, Peggy Davis.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday March 23 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109), Barnesville, , where funeral services will be held on Thursday March 24 at 11am.
Interment will follow in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
