Stephen Jenkins, 55, of Waldorf
Stephen Jenkins, 55, of Waldorf died Oct. 8, 2002, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata. Born Oct. 21, 1946, in Cheverly, he was the son of the late James William Jenkins and the late Bertha Mae Jankins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James W. Jenkins Jr. He is survived by his brother, Michael S. Jenkins; sister-in-law, Darlene Jenkins; and cousins, John Prince and Dorothy Ann Fliz. Services will be held at. Oct. 12 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Issue. The Rev. Karl Chimiak officiatde. Burial was at the church cemetery.

Lillian Faye Simon
Lillian Faye Simon, 73 of California, MD died on Saturday October 5, 2002 at her residence.
She was born on August 19, 1929 in Cayce, Kentucky the daughter of the late George and Lara Nell Sharpe.
Mrs. Simon moved to St. Mary’s County in 1983 from Virginia Beach, VA. She loved crabbing the waters of the county. She was an avid Gardener and also enjoyed arts and crafts.
Her husband Earl Robert Simon whom she married on September 6, 1971 in Puerto Rico survives her. She was preceded in death by a sister June Irvine and a brother Elvin Sharpe.
A memorial service will be held, with the Reverend Phil Ayers of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or American Cancer

Joan Patricia Pumphrey
Joan Patricia Pumphrey, 67 of Mechanicsville, MD formerly of New Carrollton, MD died on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Prince Georges Hospital, Cheverly, MD.
Born on August 17, 1935 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late John Patrick and Pearl Anna Phillips O’Neill. She was a homemaker.
She was the beloved wife of Edward James Pumphrey, Jr., loving mother of Suzanne Blocker, Edward M. and Timothy P. Pumphrey, sister of Margaret Battle, Herbert, Francis, and Eugene O’Neill. Seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews also survive her. A sister, Catherine Cook predeceases her.
Funeral service were held on Thursday, October 10, 2002 at 12; 00 PM with Reverend Maret H. Dinsmore officiating. Interment followed at Maryland Veterans cemetery at 2PM in Cheltenham, MD.

Walter Vianney Jenkins
Walter Vianney Jenkins, 69, of Charlotte Hall died Oct. 7, 2002, at his home. He held a Bachelor of Science degree from Notre Dame, Baltimore. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a lector at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newport. He enjoyed his church, traveling and loved continually learning and teaching. Born April 12, 1933, in Leonardtown, he was the son of the late Joseph S. Jenkins and the late Mary Delores Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Lee Jenkins. Services were held Oct. 10 at St. Mary's, Newport. The Rev. Frederick MacIntyre officiated. Burial took place at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Wathen, Rick Wathen, Chris Wathen, Thomas Wathen, Richard Wheatley and Allison Clements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's, Newport Church Building Fund, 11555 St. Mary's Church Road, Charlotte Hall, Md. 20622.

Emery Thomas Wilt
Emery Thomas Wilt, 77 of Hollywood, MD died on October 6, 2002 at his residence.
He was born on May 6, 1925 in Roanoke, WV the son of the late Claude and Laura Brewer Wilt.
On February 26, 1943 he married the former Irene Heath. He retired from Columbia Gas Systems in Buckhannon, WV after 39 years of service.
In addition to his wife, two daughters Sharon Ferris, Leonardtown, MD and Sandra Overman of Newport News, VA survive him. Three sisters Naomi Ramsey, Almeda Pumphrey and Elizabeth Waugh all of Weston, WV, one brother Claude Wilt, Jr. of West Union, WV. Five grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Interment was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

Samuel F. Morgan, 80
Samuel F. Morgan, 80, of Lexington Park, MD, died on October 3, 2002 at his residence.
He was born on March 24, 1922 in Drayden, MD the son of the late Nora and Annie Somerville Morgan.
Mr. Morgan was of the Methodist Episcopal faith and was a member of St. Mark’s UAME in Valley Lee, MD.
He is survived by a sister Annie Johnson, of Baltimore, MD.
Funeral service was held at St. Mark's UAME with the Reverend Dr. Rudy Brooks officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Linda J. Fean
Linda J. Fean of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on October 1, 2002 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. She was 54 years of age.
Linda was bon in Bridgeport, West Virginia and came to the Washington DC area after graduating from West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh, School of Applied Medicine. She was a registered Physical Therapist and worked at the former Cafritz Memorial Hospital, Dr. G. Sanchez’s office, and Civista Hospital in LaPlata, Maryland.
She was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mechanicsville, Maryland, where she sang in the church choir, directed the hand bell choir, and taught Sunday school. She also participated in Christmas in April and volunteered at Mechanicsville Elementary School for several years.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Dennis Fean, son, Jason Fean of Lusby, MD, daughter, Laura Fean of Towson, MD, her parents, Ruth and Isaac Suarez of Bridgeport, WV, sister, Kathy Mika, Mechanicsville, MD, brother, Timothy Suarez, Knoxville, TN, future daughter-in-law, Michelle Bean of Lusby, MD and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Laurel Grove with Reverend Phil Ayers will be officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Donations of sympathy may be made to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Bldg Fund, P.O. Box 1060, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.

Elizabeth Cooksey Bowling, 74
Elizabeth Cooksey Bowling, 74, of Charlotte Hall died Sept. 30, 2002, at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitaion Center, La Plata. She was a Homemaker and a stenographer. A member of Catholic Daughters of American, Alumni of St. Mary's College, member of the St. Mary's Alumni Association and enjoyed cooking. Born June 16, 1928, in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of the late Robert Vernon Cooksey and the late Grace Wise Cooksey. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by brothers, Robert V. Cooksey Jr., And Edward F. Cooksey and a sister, Margaret Bowling. She is survived by her son James P. Bowling; daughters, Martha Davis Battaglia, Amy Elizabeth Back; sister, Catherine Earle; three grandchildren. Services were held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Issue, Md. Oct. 4 with Rev. Karl Chimiak will officiate. Burial was at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Francis Warring, Vincent Warring, Jr., Joe Adams, Marty Hayden, Francis Reynolds, Peter Bowling, and Patrick Warring. Memorial contributions may be made to St.Mary's College of Maryland, % Alumni Association, 18952 E. Fisher Road, St. Mary's City, Md. 20686.

William Henry Streets, Jr. 62
William Henry Streets, Jr. 62, of Lexington Park, MD died on September 19, 2002 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington, DC.
He was born on December 10, 1939 in Westchester, PA the son of the late Rev. William Henry Streets, Sr. and Emma James Ashton Streets.
Mr. Streets joined the Air force in 1958 thru 1962, in 1962 he than joined the Navy an served his country until 1984. He was awarded the Good Conduct Award (four) Navy Unit Commendation + 1 Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal + 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal + 1 Star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon +1 Star. He enjoyed working with his hands; he loved Woodworking, Leatherwork, Painting and Ceramics. He collected art from all over the world.
He is survived by his wife Carrie Bell Tobler Streets whom he married in Sanford FL, on March 21, 1966. Two brothers, Ronnie Streets and wife Mary, of Exton, PA, Stanford Streets of Westchester, PA and a sister Edna Hilt and husband Joe of Navarre, FL, also survive him.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, October 2 at the St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, St. Inigoes, MD. The Reverend Damian Shadwell was the celebrant. Interment was on October 9 at Arlington National cemetery.

Susan Varney Fish, 57
Susan Varney Fish, 57, of Great Mills, MD died on September 28, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. She was born on November 7, 1945, in Glens Falls, NY, the only child of the late Devere and Clarissa Beck Varney. Susan was a member of the Lexington Park United Methodist Church and the founder of the "Blankets of Love" charity. She was a volunteer with the Hughesville Shelter and had been active in several other charitable organizations. Susan married James E. Fish on January 28, 1967. She received a BA from the University of Plattsburg, and was a well-known local artisan and seamstress with work in both Cecil’s Old Mill and the Old Town Crafters Store. In addition to her husband of 35 years James E. Fish she is survived by her four adoring children, Clarissa, Melissa, Matthew and Brandice, two son-in-laws, Robert and Asa, two grandchildren, Isiah and Noah, and dozens of beloved friends. A funeral service will be held at Lexington Park United Methodist Church, 21760 Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, MD with Pastor Ken Walker officiating. Interment followed at the Ebenezer cemetery, Chancellors Run Road, Great Mills, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane Suite 603, New York, NY 10038.

Beulah Davis, 88
Beulah Davis, 88, of La Plata, died September 29, 2002, at Charles County Nursing and Rehabiation Center. She is formerly of Akron, Ohio. She was a member of the Nanjemoy Baptist Church, was a Sunday School Teacher, Director of Missions and member of the Baptist Women. Born January 5, 1914, in Montgomery County, Va. She was the daughter of the late John JOnes and the late Laura Jones. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James Bradford Davis, brothers, Sidney Jones, James Jones, and Kinzer Jones, sisters, Louise Gostner, Ruby Pinkston, and Stella Sisk. She is survived by her sister, Roxie Sharp and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at the Nanjemoy Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
Dr. Harold Adna Fulton, 79
Dr. Harold Adna Fulton, 79 of Hollywood, MD, died on September 28, 2002,
at his residence. Born April 5, 1923 in Clarksburg, WV, he was the son of the late Harold Adna and Opal Margaret Barrick Fulton. Dr. Fulton moved to St. Mary’s County 18 years ago from Wicomico County, MD. He served in the United States Army (745th Field Artillery Battalion) from May 3, 1943 to April 5, 1946 during this time he earned the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, EAME Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Dr. Fulton served as a teacher, High School Principal and Superintendent of Schools in Maryland for over 40 years. His love for teaching and children remained a vital part of his life through the years.
He attended St. John’s Catholic Church was a member of Lower Shore Sheltered Workshop, Southern Maryland Quarter Horse Association, and the Maryland retired School Superintendents Association.
Dr. Fulton is survived by his wife, Dr. R. Lorraine LaRusic Fulton whom he married August 25, 1984 in Prince Frederick, MD, four daughters, Shannon Haroszczak of Woodbine, MD, Kathleen Hitchens of Dagsboro, DE, Nancy Fulton of Atlanta GA, Mary Shock of Towson, MD, one son, Richard Fulton of Salisbury, MD and 9 grandchildren, he was preceded in death by one sister.
A Funeral Service was conducted with Father John Dillon officiating. Inurnment took place on October 29 in Arlington National cemetery.

Clara P. Cheslock, 87
Clara P. Cheslock, 87, of Indian Head, died Sept. 26, 2002, at the Fort Washington Medical Center. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She was born March 15, 1915, in Manassas, Va. She was the daughter of the late Henry Pearson and the late Fannie Seton Costello Pearson. In addition to her parents she was precede in death by her husband Joseph J. Cheslock, brother, Van Buren Pearson; and sisters Virginia Neagle and Isabella Pearson. She is survived by her daughters, Juith C. Eisenhower, Scottsdale, Arizona and Louise C. Sanders, La Plata; sister Edith Pearson, Baltimore; grandchildren, Kathryn S. Lytle, Barry J. Eisenhower, and S.Larry Sanders; great-grandchildren, Michael Sanders, Sara Sanders, Scott Eisenhower, Edward W. Lytle and Joseph D. Lytle. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary's Star of the Sea, Indian Head, Md. Interment followwd at St. Ignatius Chapel Point cemetery, Port Tobacco, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church Building Fund, 30 Mattingly Ave. Indian Head, Md. 20640.

Patricia "Patty" Ann Sheldon, 50
Patricia "Patty" Ann Sheldon, 50 of Mechanicsville, MD died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at her residence. Born on December 21, 1951 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of Ellen Louise Wilmot Hibble and the late Clifford F. Hibble. She worked in sales as a customer service representative. She also enjoyed crafts especially working with silk flowers.She was the beloved wife of Robert Wayne Sheldon, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD. Sister of Marion Louise Lallande of Charlotte Hall, MD, Clifford "Rusty" F. Hibble, Jr. of Cambridge, MD, and James M. Hibble of Leonardtown, MD. Seven nieces and nephews, nine grand nieces and nephews also survive her. Funeral service were held September 27 with Father Neal Ward officiating. Interment followed at Queen of Peace cemetery, Helen, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made to; Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1032, Lexington Park, MD 20653.

Charles Dennis Hill, 52
Charles Dennis Hill, 52 of Ridge, MD, died on September 19, 2002 at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born June 19, 1950 in Hampton, VA, he was the son of Charles Elwin Hill of Chesapeake, VA and the late Edna Stutt Hill.
Mr. Hill moved to St. Mary’s County in 1972 from Chesapeake, VA. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hill was a licensed Master Electrician, Master HVAC, Journeyman HAVC he also had two Boiler licenses, he was retired from the Civil Service at Pax River, most recently he was the Chief Engineer at Harry Lundberg School of Seamanship, he also served as Chief Shop Steward of United Industrial Workers of America.
In addition to his father Mr. Hill is survived by his wife Diane Lee Norwood, whom he married June 7, 1975 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, one daughter Charlene Cummings and husband Jason of California, MD one son, Aaron Hill and wife Jeanne of Great Mills, MD, who is expecting his first grandchild in March, two brothers, Wayne Hill of Hampton, VA, Jesse Hill of Chesapeake, VA, two sisters, Carolyn Pinkney of Smiths, AL, Brenda Gabriele of Chesapeake, VA.
A Funeral Service will be conducted with Reverend Phil Ayers officiating. Interment was private.

Vincent Brooks Hanrahan, 68
Vincent Brooks Hanrahan, 68, of Lexington Park, MD, died on Monday, September 16, 2002 at his residence.
Born on April 26, 1934 in Guatemala, he was the son of the late Vincent J. and Mary Brooks Hanrahan. Mr. Hanrahan received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland and was a member of the University of Maryland ATO Alumnus Fraternity. He worked for the US Small Business Administration from 1960 until 1982 as an investigator conducting investigations under the direction of the Assistant Inspector General, from 1982 until 1994 as a Business Development Specialist serving as the International Trade Officer for the Baltimore District and from 1994 until retirement as a Loan Officer processing Bank Guaranty Loans and Direct Loans. Vince spearheaded the International Loan Program for the SBA and made the first loan and built the Veterans Business Loan program for Vietnam Vets to own their own businesses. After retirement, he worked for the Wal-Mart Association for three years in the sporting goods section.
Mr. Hanarahan is survived by his wife, Clarissa DiFrancis Hanrahan, whom he married on August 8, 2001, three children; Glenn P. Hanrahan and Brian Hanrahan of Silver Spring, MD, Kevin Hanrahan of Edison, NJ, four grandchildren, one sister, Diane Coughlin of Silver Spring, MD and a brother, Larry A. Hanrahan of Washington, DC. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated September 18 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD. The Reverend Mike Dolan was the celebrant. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
