Born August 19, 1906 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late John Lewis Abell, Sr. and Jane Loretta Wible Abell. She was the loving wife of the late William Richley Norris. She was the devoted mother of William Richley "Dickie" Norris, Jr., John Abell Norris, Catherine Dolores Wheeler, Robert Bernard Norris, Charles Joseph Norris, Elizabeth Jean Guy all of Hollywood, MD, Philip Norbert Norris of LaPlata, MD and George Franklin Norris of Mechanicsville, MD. She is the sister of Loretta Goldsborough, Martha Johnson both of Hollywood, MD, and the late Manning Abell, Vivian Abell, Bert Abell, Sr., Claude Abell, Martin Abell, Karl Abell, John Lewis Abell, Jr., Addie Abell, Agatha Adams and George Abell. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Friends may call in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, Maryland on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 from 4; 00 - 8; 00 PM with prayers being said at 7; 00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 10; 00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Martin Harris, officiating. Interment will follow in Church cemetery. Robert Larry Guy
Robert Larry Guy of Loveville, MD died on December 2, 2000 in Georgetown University Hospital.
Born April 9, 1950 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Payne Guy of Loveville, MD and the late Robert William Guy. He was the loving husband of Karen Ann DeRosa Guy whom he married October 12, 1974 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was the devoted father of Robert Michael Guy, Jeffrey Alan Guy, Melissa Ann Guy all of Loveville, MD. He was the brother of Leonard Donald Guy, Sonia Walker both of Loveville, MD, Barbara L. Goode of Chaptico, MD and the late William Jerry Guy. He is survived by his 2 grandchildren, Ashley Kathleen Guy and Gregory Michael Guy.
Friends may call in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, Maryland on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 from 4; 00 - 8; 00 PM with prayers being said at 7; 00 PM. Albert T. Camp,
84, of Welcome
Albert T. Camp, for many years a top scientist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, died May 19, 2004, after an extended illness. He was 84 years old. A graduate of Yale Univesity and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Camp spent more than 30 years in the defense industry, including almost 25 years as a Navy civilian scientist.
During his 15 years at Indian Head, he held positions of supervisory chemical engineer, associate technical director and director of research and development.
Camp was considered a world expert in the field of solid rocket propellants and held 12 patents for his discoveries. He invented the propellants used in the 2.75 inch rocket, Zuni, ASROC, Shillelagh, RAPEC, XM-55 Army Chemical Rocket and Army Medium Assault Weapon. In 1997, the Naval Surface Warfare Center dedicated a new Technical Library in his name.
Many of his papers and patents are stored there. During the library dedication ceremony, base Commander Kate Paige, recognized Camp's "outstanding contributions to the Indian Head Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center, the Naval Sea Systems Command, and the United States Navy." After his retirement from Indian Head in 1979, Camp financed and managed the Brentland Farm and Goat Dairy, which was for many years the major mid-Atlantic supplier of goat milk for children with special allergic conditions. He also remained a consultant to the defense industry into his late 1970s.
He is survived by his second wife, Dawn Camp, and three daughters, Dr. Sharon Camp, Mrs. Nany Ganskow and Mrs. Cindy Hampton, as well as a brother and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at the La Plata United Methodist Church, at 11; 00 A.M. Saturday, May 29.
Arrangements are being handled by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.

Mary Helen Grimes, 76
Mary Helen Grimes, 76 of Leonardtown, MD died on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at her residence.
Born on June 21, 1927 in Minneapoils, MN, she was the daughter of the late George and Teresa McGuire Zierhut.
Mrs. Grimes moved to St. Mary’s County in 1984 from Accokeek, MD. She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD. She enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. She headed the ladies Golf Club at Breton Bay.
She is survived by her husband James Benjamin “Jimmy” Grimes, two sons, Gerald “Jerry” Grimes of Mechanicsville, VA and Gary G. Grimes of Richmond, VA, one brother, Donald Zierhart of Bedford, VA and four grandchildren also survive.
The family will recieve friends on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 from 2-4; 00 pm and 6-8; 00 pm at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at 10; 00 am at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD. The Reverend John Mattingly will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

LUCY DEMENT BLACKWELL
LUCY DEMENT BLACKWELL, 63, of Callaway, Maryland died Thursday, May 18, 2000 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on August 18, 1936 to the late Harry Lee Dement and Clara Maude Evans Dement. Ms. Blackwell was a homemaker all her life. She married James Dale Blackwell on May 21, 1955 at St. George Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, Maryland. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1986.
Ms. Blackwell is survived by her daughter; Rhonda Gail Blackwell Foster of Callaway, Maryland, three sons; James Dale Blackwell, Jr. and Lionel Scott Blackwell of Leonardtown, Maryland, and Darrell Jason Blackwell of Callaway, Maryland, a sister; Loberta D. Malone of Alpharetta, Georgia and a brother; Kenneth R. Dement of Callaway, Maryland; two grandchildren; Kimberlee Rose Foster and Jack Warren Foster. She was preceded in death by a brother; Willard Dement.
The family received friends on Sunday, May 21, 2000 from 3; 00 p.m. until 7; 00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, Maryland. Prayers were recited at 6; 00 p.m. A Funeral service was conducted Monday, May 22, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. at St. George Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, Maryland. Father Christopher Halliday conducted the service. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

HELEN BESSIE GEHAN
HELEN BESSIE GEHAN, 77, of Great Mills, Maryland died Sunday, May 21, 2000 at her residence.
Born on April 9, 1923 in Elmira, New York to the late Clyde Mays and Emeline Clark Mays. Ms. Gehan moved from Yulee, Florida and had lived in Great Mills for fourteen years. She was a homemaker all of her life. She also was a member of St. Peter and Paul Church in Elmira, New York.
Ms. Gehan is survived by a daughter; Bonnie L. York of Great Mills, Maryland, a son; Gary R. Benedict of Bellvue, Florida, a sister; Elsie Hall of Elmira, New York, and a brother; Jack Heater of San Diego, California, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be conducted for friends on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at 2; 00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown, Maryland. Father Robert J. Kosty will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to; Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.

JAMES HARRY THOMPSON, Jr.
JAMES HARRY THOMPSON, Jr., 65, of Lexington Park, Maryland died on Friday, May 19, 2000.Born on January 26, 1935, he was the son of the late James Harry Thompson, Sr. and Ann Elizabeth Lloyd Thompson.
James graduated in 1952 from the Cardinal Gibbons Institute in Ridge, Maryland. After high school he was employed by the Navy Exchange on the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland where he worked in food services. In 1965 he went to work for the St. Mary’s County Board of Education as an education support employee. He retired in 1993. He loved all sorts of sports; basketball, golf and especially football and was one of the biggest Dallas fans in the county..
He is survived by two sons; Myron Xavier Thompson and David Donnell Thompson of Lexington Park, Maryland, six grandchildren; Clayton Mitchell, Lance T, Tamara L. Myron X. and Corey S. Thompson and John Coleman, two daughters-in-law; Vanessa Renee and Sandra Michelle Thompson, four brothers; Francis E. Thompson of Lexington Park, MD, John E. Thompson of Hollywood, MD, Paul N. Thompson of Harrisburg, PA, and Cornelius R. Thompson of Ridge, MD, six sisters; Elizabeth C. Chase of California, MD, Theresa E. Johnson and S. Ernestine Lynch of Lexington Park, MD, Shirley R. Gordon of Jamica, NY, Catherine R. Herndon of Hollywood, MD and Linda T. Woods of Waterford, MI.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2000 from 5; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD with prayers being recited at 7; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, 2000 at Immaculate Heart of Mary with the Reverend Thomas A. Gude and the Reverend Raymond H. Moore concelebrating the Mass. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Bailey, Orlando Moore, Anthony Thompson, James A. Thompson, Charles Thompson and Kenney Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Hall, Colin Herndon, David Lynch and Francis Johnson.

PAUL ELSWORTH MYERS
PAUL ELSWORTH MYERS, 74, of Lexington Park, Maryland, died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at his residence.
Born on February 15, 1926, He was the son of the late George Milton Myers and Alice Viola Wohe Myers. Mr. Myers joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and served until 1946. He was a graduate at Shippensburg State College in 1949. He worked at Mount Rainer Junior High School as a Math teacher and Band master. From 1962 until 1982, he was employed with UNISYS as a Program Analyst. During this time, he was involved with the Apollo moon landing.
Mr. Myers is survived by a daughter; Betty Jane Davis of Alexandria, Virginia, a sister; Ethel Sager of York, Pennsylvania and former wife; Margaret L. Meyers of California, Maryland. He is preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Shirley, Viola Myers, Mabel Myers, two brothers; James Myers and Arthur Myers.
The family received friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 from 5; 00 p.m. until 7; 00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, Maryland. A Graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 19, 2000 at 3; 00 p.m. at Sunnyside cemetery in York Springs, Pennsylvania with The Reverend Ted Sadler officiating.

WILLIAM JOSEPH MURPHY
WILLIAM JOSEPH MURPHY, 77, of California, Maryland died Sunday, May 14, 2000 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on September 28, 1922 in New York City, New York to the late Denis Murphy and Nora O’Leary Murphy. He retired on May 30, 1989 from the Federal Government employed with Naval Air Station working as an Electronic Engineer. He was a member of the VFW Post 2632 in California, Maryland and the Alhambra of St. Mary’s County.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife; Jean M. Murphy whom he married on June 30, 1951 in New York City, New York. He is also survived by his two daughters; Jeannie Moran of Hollywood, Maryland and husband Steven, Nora Falkenstein of California, Maryland and husband Rick, sisters; Lena Spillane of Ireland, Nora Murray of Yonkers, New York and Sister Kathleen Murphy of Sacramento, California, a brother; Daniel Murphy of Ireland and one grandson; Ricky Falkenstein. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by a sister; Mary Murphy and two brothers; Patrick Murphy and Denny Murphy.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 from 4; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, Maryland. Prayers will be recited at 7; 00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 18, 2000 at Immaculate Heart of Mary at 10; 00 a.m. The Reverend Thomas A. Gude, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

KATHRYN MAYOR WOOD
KATHRYN MAYOR WOOD, 99, of Park Hall, Maryland died Saturday, May 13, 2000 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on February 13, 1901 in Scotland, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Edward Mayor and Mary Gertrude Hammett Mayor. Mrs. Wood was a homemaker all her life. She was a Substitute post mistress at St. Mary’s City for over twenty-five years, also was a Foster care parent for over fifty years and health care giver. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity at Michaels Catholic Church and known as The Florence Nightingale of St. Mary’s County.
Mrs. Wood is survived by six daughters; Polly Bean of Callaway, Maryland, Irvanette W. Hall of Park Hall, Maryland, Eileen Hall of Great Mills, Maryland, Judy K. Johnston of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Louise Combs of California, Princess M. Barker of Lexington Park, Maryland and three sons; Gibbons Wood of Callaway, Maryland, Charles D. Wood, Jr. of St. Mary’s City, Maryland, Clyde Hayden of Lexington Park, Maryland. Mrs. Wood had twenty-eight grand children and thirty-nine grand children and many foster children.
Mrs. Wood’s granddaughters served as Pallbearers.
The family received friends on Monday, May 15, 2000 from 4; 00 p.m. until 8; 00 p.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church in Great Mills, Maryland. Prayers were recited at 7; 00 p.m. with Father Thomas Gude. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

FRANCES M. BUCKLER
FRANCES M. BUCKLER, 87, of Englewood, Florida died Friday, May 12, 2000 at Bon Secour-Venice Hospital in Venice, Florida.
Born on April 12, 1913 in Buffalo, New York to the late Frederick L. Drews and Nora A. Guinane Drews. Mrs. Buckler was employed for over thirty-four years with the U.S. Government and retired as an Executive Secretary of the Advisory Commission on Intergovernment Relations. After retiring she and her husband, Irvin, moved to Englewood in 1968 from Oxon Hill, Maryland. She was a member of St. Raphael’s Parish in Englewood, Florida and of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Mrs. Buckler is survived by her husband, Irvin A. Buckler whom she has been married to for over sixty-three years. She is also survived by her two daughters; Mary A. Donato of Williamsburg, Virginia and Noreen M. Neel of Piney Point, Maryland and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 from 10; 00 a.m. until 11; 00 a.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, Maryland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 11; 00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, Maryland. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Frances to St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, 770 Kilbourne Avenue, Englewood, Florida 34223.

Marian Alma Hutman
Marian Alma Hutman, 74, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, died on Sunday, January 7, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born on January 20, 1926 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Marian Mann Niess. Mrs. Hutman was a Homemaker. She moved from Forestville, Maryland and has lived in this area for five years. She liked flowers and gardening.
Mrs. Hutman is survived by husband; Michael T. Hutman, Jr. of Mechanicsville, Maryland, whom she married on May 1, 1944 in Washington, DC. She is also survived by a daughter; Janet M. Koerber of Mechanicsville, Maryland, two sons; Michael T. Hutman of Germantown, Maryland and Albert T. Edwards of Lexington Park, Maryland, two sisters; Kathryn Andrews of Mechanicsville, Maryland and Helen Brown of Lexington Park, Maryland, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 15, 2001 from 6 – 9 p.m. at The Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at 11; 00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Wayside, 37575 Chaptico Road, Chaptico, MD 20621. The Reverend John P. Stack will be the celebrant. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday at 1; 00 p.m. at Maryland Veterans cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.

Delores May VanSteenburg
Delores May VanSteenburg, 68, of Great Mills, died on Monday, January 8, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.
Born March 12, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, mother of five children and ten grandchildren. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She drove a school bus for twenty years at the Gladwin Michigan Public Schools while married to her first husband, Raymond Brown. She was a teacher aide and school bus driver for Queens Creek Arizona School system for eight years until forced into retirement by heart problems. She was an active member of Metropolitan Community Church of the Chesapeake. She loved to sew and quilt and was a member of Quilters By the Bay, the Pax River Quilters Guild and the Thursday Senior’s Sewing Club.
Surviving family in the order of birth are as follows; Nancy and her husband, Raymond Robinson, their children Sarah, Alex, Jacob, Kevan and Lucas of PawPaw, Michigan; Gerald Brown and his wife, Anne, their two children Josephine and GeorgeAnne from Leavenworth, Kansas; Cindy and Linda, Charlie and his wife, Bertha, their two children Christopher and Heather from Brunswick, Maine; and Terry and Jewell and his son, Derrick from Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Pratt of Detroit, Michigan and nephews, Jimmy, Johnny and Randy.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 11, 2001 from 4 – 8 p.m. in The Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Friday, January 12, 2001 by the MCC of the Chesapeake at Oakland United Methodist Church, 5300 Chalk Point Road, West River, Maryland at 1; 00 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, family asks that contributions be made to the Building Fund of MCC of the Chesapeake, P.O. Box 495, Shady Side, Maryland 20764.
