RALPH A. ALUISE (Age 88)
Ralph served in the Army Air Corp in WW II. He was a pioneer of television, having served three major networks in NYC as a TV Engineer beginning in the 1950's. Died on Monday, May 20, 2013 in his residence of Kensington, MD, formerly of Hackensack, NJ. Survived by his beloved wife Regina “Jean” Aluise, his sweetheart for 63 years; loving father of Gary R. (Lia Xhilone) and Timothy J. Aluise (Amy Friend); proud grandfather of Cathy Aluise-Kershaw (Geoff), Theresa, Dylan, and Jordan Aluise; and recently celebrated the birth of his great-grandson, Frederick Kershaw. He was predeceased by his siblings, Marie, Viola, Carmen and Edna. HERBERT J. HARRIS
On Saturday, May 18, 2013, Herbert J. Harris, age 89, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of Buffalo, NY. Born May 20, 1923 in Rochester, NY. Husband of the late Mary Frances (Fran); father of Ann Lister (Mark), Patricia Kern (Dabney), James W. Harris (Karen), Steve Harris (Shaun), and the late Edward M. Harris; grandfather of Megan and Kevin (Genevieve) Lister; James and Jennifer Harris; Jack and Liz Kern; and Timothy and Ashley Harris. He was a combat veteran having served in WWII as a forward observer for Field Artillery. He graduated from the University of Alabama, class of 1950 with a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering; with a Certificate in Business Administration in 1958. He worked as an Industrial Engineer for several companies in the Buffalo area and he was the lead engineer in developing the first refueling hose of jet aircraft in 1954 at Hewitt Robbins Inc. He worked for several civilian government agencies in the Washington area and started the first Industrial Engineering organization at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. He was also the Chief Industrial Engineer for the Department of Agriculture. He was President of Niagara Frontier Chapter, Buffalo, NY, and President of the Washington Chapter of Industrial Engineers. He enjoyed playing sports: Four wall handball, tennis, and was an avid golfer and bridge player. husband, Garland Smith, who predeceased her in 1996. She worked for the American Cancer Society in the 1970s followed by Arrow General, a federal contractor in the 1980s. She is survived by son Nelson Sanders (Cecelia), daughters Maria Victoria (Ramon), Margaret West (Geoffrey) and niece (raised as daughter) Josefina Joseph; brother James Joseph; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family.
