Virgil R. Maguire
CAMBRIDGE - Virgil R. Maguire of Cambridge, a World War II veteran, died at his home Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999. He was 79.
Born in Cambridge on July 29,1920, he was the son of Walter and ZuIa Phillips Maguire.
Mr. Maguire was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He also held membership in Dorchester Post 91, American Legion, Choptank Memorial Post 7460, V.F.W. and Cambridge EIks Lodge 4 1272,
Raised in Cambridge, he was a graduate of Cambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1942 to October 1945, including duty in the Pacific.
As a young man he worked at the Variety Corner. For 25 years, he owned and operated Maguires' Grocery with his wife Betty, to whom he was married
Oct. 8, 1942.
Before retiring, he was employed by Union Trust Co., working in both Cambridge and Easton. Mrs. Maguire died June 19, 1998,
He is survived by two daughters, Connie M. Cantwell of White Hall, and Vicki M. Chow of St. Leonard; two granddaughters, Carrie A. Cantwell and Christina M. Chow.
A graveside service was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at Green Lawn cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, c/o Lorraine Dickerson, 10 Harris Drive, Cambridge, Md. 21613.

Frances H. Norris
QUEEN ANNE - Frances Henrietta Norris, of Queen Anne, died of heart failure Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999 at Corsica Hills Nursing Center in Centreville. She was 88.
Born in Queen Anne on July 3, 1911, Mrs. Norris was the daughter of the late Louis Jerome Sneed and Effie Nichols Sneed.
Mrs. Norris attended the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and received a business degree from Strayer College in Baltimore, where she received numerous academic awards. She worked for Planned Parenthood and Glenn L. Martin in Baltimore before returning to Queen Anne in 1945.
She was a member of the Hillsboro-Queen Anne United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Norris is survived by her husband of 57 years, C. Frederick Norris of Queen Anne; one son, Charles F. "Ted" Norris Jr., of Litchfield, N.H.; two daughters, Susan Norris Funk of Baltimore, and Kathleen Norris Sherman of Ocean Pines; six grandchildren, and Mary Sneed Eaton whom she raised from early childhood.
A private memorial service will be held later.

Darlene V. Thomas
WYE MILLS - Darlene Virginia Thomas of Wye Mills died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999. She was 68.
Born on Oct. 24, 1930 in Longwoods, she was the daughter of Mary Nichols and the late Albert Lewis.
Mrs. Thomas grew up in Chester and attended school in Queen Anne's County. Upon leaving school, she worked at Matapeake-On-The-Ferry. She also worked in Ocean City, Wilmington and Baltimore. She retired after working many years for Goldstein's Shoe Store in Baltimore.
During their retirement years, Mrs. Thomas and her husband, the late Melvin Thomas, operated the Wye Mills Produce and Seafood Market.
She is survived by her mother, Mary L. Hill; two sisters, Mary A. Hill and Shirley Walker; and three brothers, Marvin Nichols, Melvin Hill and Carl Hill.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 at Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Chester, where friends called from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Carol M. Vary
RIDGELY - Carol Mae Vary of Ridgely, formerly of Cheltenham, died after a short illness on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 80.
She was the daughter of the late Glenn and Zula Grayson Smith and the wife for 47 years of the late Willard E. Vary.
Mrs. Vary was a member of the V.F.W Auxiliary Post 9619 in Morningside, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 196 in Suitland. She was active with the Cheltenham United Methodist Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Greensboro.
Mrs. Vary is survived by three daughters, Carol JoAnn Hinton of Denton, Marjorie Anne Philbin of Greenville, N.C., and Deborah Anne Young of Forest Heights, Md.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Bettina Suzanne Barham, and two grandsons are deceased.
Funeral Services were held Monday, Sept. 27 at Cheltenham United Methodist Church. Burial was at Maryland Veterans cemetery, Cheltenham.

Henry E. Faulcon Jr.
TRAPPE - Henry Eddie Faulcon Jr. of Trappe died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, in Los Angeles, Calif. He was 25.
Born on Nov. 26, 1973, in Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of Henry Faulcon Sr. and Joy Faulcon.
A student at the Computer Learning Center in Laurel, Md., he had been employed employed by Giuffrida's restaurant in Easton.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Faith Christian International Outreach Center, 6472 Duhollow Road, Warrenton, Va. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Burial was at Brightview cemetery
in Warrenton.

John H. Moore Sr.
CAMBRIDGE - John H. "Jimmy" Moore Sr. of Cambridge died at his home on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999. He was 62.
Born on Oct. 20, 1936, in Toddville, Md., he was the son of the late Oval H. and Nina Tall Moore.
He attended schools in Toddville and in Wingate. He served in the U.S. Army and had been stationed in Italy for two years. He worked as a commercial waterman, and later worked for J.M. Clayton Co. in Cambridge, for Caldwell Casting and for 27 years worked for Choptank Distributing as a driver and later as a salesman.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Darlene Wallace, whom he married
Sept. 10, 1960; a daughter, Jackie D. Moore of Cambridge; two sons, John H. Moore, Jr. and Eric D. Moore, both of Cambridge; three brothers, Ray O. Moore of Delmar, Md., James W. "Jigger" Moore of Cambridge, and Wayne F. Moore of Salisbury; four grandchildren. One sister, Shirley M. Wingate and three brothers, William Moore, Edward Moore and Charles L. Moore, are deceased.
Services were held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18 at Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, where friends called one hour before the service. Burial was on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Maryland Veterans cemetery, Beulah.

Ralph I. Ober Sr.
GREENSBORO - Ralph Irving Ober Sr. of Greensboro died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 76.
Born July 16, 1923, at Henderson, he was the son of the late Ralph Emerson and Laura Lowe Green Ober.
Mr. Ober was a 1941 graduate of Greensboro High School. He served as a military policeman in the U.S. Army during World War II. From 1940 until 1960, he was employed with Noble Motor Rebuilders in Easton. He then established his own business, Ober Automotive of Greensboro.
He was a member of Greensboro Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and in other offices. He also was a member of Greensboro Volunteer Fire Comany, Greensboro Lions Club, was a member of the Caroline County School Board, the Caroline County Bank Board, Chesapeake College Board, served on the town council, and had served as mayor of Greensboro.
Mr. Ober is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Anna Ober, to whom he was married
Oct. 15, 1943; three sons, Irving Ober J. of Felton, Del., Robert Ober and Randy Ober, both of Greensboro; three sisters, Margaret Smith of Wilmington, Del. Iva Zacharis of Laurel, Md. and Laura Hamilton of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. Burial was at Greensboro cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Monday from 7 until 9 p.m.
