Phyllis C. Springer

CORINNA - Phyllis Clarice Springer, 94, the wife of the late Henry L. Springer, died April 8, 2006 at a Dover-Foxcroft Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born August 30, 1911 in Corinna, the daughter of Herbert and Edna (Lander) Simpson. She was a graduate of Corinna Union Academy and had been employed by a Bangor attorney for several years. She later worked as a Floor Lady at the Snowflake Freezing Plant in Corinna for many years and was employed in the Hot Lunch Program for Nokomis High School from 1968 to 1980. She is survived by her brother, Roger Simpson and his wife, Muriel of Corinna; a step daughter, Betty Larrlee of Cal.; two step grandsons; special nieces, Alice Duthie of Charleston and Althea Wyman of Biddeford. Phyllis was predeceased by a sister, Christine Veazie and a brother, Robert Simpson. Friends called at the Thompson Funeral Home, 30 St. Albans Road, Corinna, Wednesday from 1 PM until time of service at 2 PM with Rev. Edward Jaworski officiating. Burial will be in the Corinna Center cemetery.

Richard W. Murphy

ORLANDO, FL - Richard W. Murphy died at his home in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, April 8, 2006. He was born on October 17, 1946, son of the late William A. Murphy and Kathleen (Wright) Murphy. Richard attended Pittsfield schools and M.C.I. He joined the Marines after high school. Richard lived in New Jersey for many years after the Service. He moved to Florida with his family where he drove tractor trailer for a few years, retiring for ill health. Richard will be remembered for his love of his many friends and family. He was full of life and loved people. He is survived by his special friend Donna Northorp of Orlando, FL.; his mother, of Pittsfield, ME, Kathleen Murphy; one brother, Allen and wife Mary of Milo, ME; two sisters, Sandy and husband Henry Carron of Pittsfield, ME and Sue Murphy of Auburndale, FL. A daughter, Laurie Murry of North Carolina, a daughter, Tammy Murphy of Orlando, FL., a son, Ricky Murphy III of Orlando, FL., two step children, Warren of Orlando, FL. and Angie of New Jersey. Richard leaves 8 grandchildren, many neices and nephews and many friends that he loved. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Murphy Jr. in 2004. The arrangements were handled by the Collision Funeral Home in Winter Gardens, FL.

Elwood F. “Chubby” Field

EXETER - Elwood F. Field, 72, died March 25, 2006 at a Bangor hospital. He was born May 25, 1933 at Dexter a son of Grover Cleveland and Angeline Morrow (Winchester) Field. He had been a resident of Exeter Mills for 31 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Elwood will be remembered shoeing horses at racetracks around the area, and was employed at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Woodard) Field of Exeter; a son Robert Field of Bucksport; 2 daughters, Sharon Batchelder of Exeter, and Helen Grass of Lincoln; a step-son, Leon Maloon of Exeter; a foster daughter, Lisa Bemis of Garland; 2 sisters, Edith Davis of Waterville and Vesta Clukey of Dexter; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by 2 dear friends, Clyde Thompson and Ricky Woodbury. At his request there will be no services. Burial will be in the Maine Veteran’s cemetery, Augusta. Albert Butler

NEWPORT - Albert Butler, Newport, passed away on Thursday, March 23rd at the veterans home in Bangor. He was born in July of 1935 in Dixmont to Loren M. and Iva (Boardman) Butler. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Butler of Plymouth, a sister, Mary Lou Butler of Denver, Colorado and a brother, Loren P. Butler of St. Albans. Albert was a Koren War veteran. Buriel will be in Pine Grove Cemetary, Hartland at a later date to be annouced.

Deborah Tomasak

EXETER - Deborah Tomasak, 46, went to be with the Lord March 28, 2006 after struggling with cancer. A former resident of Jackman and Willimantic, she and her husband Paul moved to Maine in 1977. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Marilyn (Titus) Honoosic, and 3 brothers, Paul, Lee and Mark, all of PA. Cremation arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Corinna. Mark S. Anderson

HARTLAND - Mark S. Anderson, 57, passed away after a long illness Sunday, March 19, 2006 at a Pittsfield hospital surrounded by his family. He was born March 28, 1948 in Ashland a son of Harley and Eugena (Howes) Anderson. Mark was a graduate of Maine Central Institute, Class of 1967, and graduated from Everett Community College in Everett, Washington. He was a Vietnam veteran having served in the U.S. Army. After completing his military service he married the former Laurel Hughes on September 12, 1970. They moved to Washington state where Mark attended photography school. After graduation, they toured Alaska and moved back to Maine. Mark was employed at Stevens Studio and Adams Russell in Bangor. He and Laurel moved to Hartland and built their home on Great Moose Pond. At the time of his death, Mark was employed by the Town of Hartland. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife of 35 years, he is survived by 2 sons, Hunter Anderson of Hartland, Justin Anderson and wife Emily, and their daughter Kaylee Jean of Troy; 3 sisters, Natalie McFarland and husband Wellman of Bucksport, Donna Anderson of Punta Gorda, Florida, Gayle Manning of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; a brother David Anderson and companion Sandy of Powell, Tennessee; and many other family members who loved him dearly. Mark was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Beverly Prevost. A memorial service was held at 1 PM on Thursday, March 23rd, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Reverend William Johnson officiating. Wayne M. Brewer

NEWPORT - Wayne M. Brewer, 59, died unexpectedly March 19, 2006 at his residence. He was born June 11, 1946 at Bangor the son of Frederick and Gretchen ( Lovley) Brewer.
Wayne graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Class of 1964 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Meridien Splendor Lodge #306 AF & AM. At the time of his death he had been employed at Bud’s Shop ‘n Save in Newport for the past 19 years. Wayne enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and making canoes. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sally (McGinnis) Brewer; a son, Wade and wife Jennifer Brewer, all of Newport; a daughter, De-De Brewer and fiancé Ryan Polley of Sanford; a sister, Myrna Davis of Bangor; 4 grandchildren, Kaitlin and Lauren Brewer and Ryan and Celso Polley; a great granddaughter, Lillian Brewer; a niece, Shanika Davis and nephew, Gyasi Davis. He was predeceased by a grandson Craig A. Brewer on January 29, 2006. Friends called from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 22nd at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport. Sandra J. Tremblay

DETROIT - Sandra J. Tremblay, 60, died March 21, 2006 at her residence after a short struggle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1945 at Dover, New Hampshire the daughter of Richard and Marian Remick. Sandra enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, and taking care of her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Henry Tremblay of Detroit; 2 sons, William McCrary, Jr. and wife Jerrilynn of Epping, NH and Raymond McCrary and wife Karen of Linneus; 2 daughters, Christine Wheeler and husband Bruce P. and Joanne Merchant and husband Temple, all of Detroit; 2 brothers, George Remick and wife Barbara of Portsmouth, NH and William Remick and wife Marie of Phoenix, AZ; 15 grandchildren, Samantha, Jeffrey, Anthony, Raymond, Jr., Arlene, Kenneth, Jagger, Jordan, Dakota, Cameron, Justin, Jerrid, Derrick, Meagan, and Shannon; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert and Michael Remick. Vivian E. Wilbur

NEWPORT - Vivian E. Wilbur, 64, died March 16, 2006 at a Pittsfield Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born September 6, 1941 in Holyoke, MA, the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Blanchard) Patenaude. She was an avid collector of baseball cards and loved to watch movies and hunt for four leaf clovers. She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Betty Conlogue and her friend, Mark Michaud of Newport, Brenda Kimball and her friend, Jim Prevatt of Dexter and Carolyn Kingston and her husband, John of Etna; a sister, Patricia Dansereau and her husband, Guy of W. Springfield, MA; two half brothers, Ronnie Field and George Field, both of S. Hadley Falls, MA; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a very close friend, Denise Derosier of Palmyra. Vivian was predeceased by a son, David J. Wilbur, Jr. Memorial services will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna with Rev. Philip J. Chabot

DEXTER - Philip J. Chabot, 79 died March 14, 2006 at his home after a period of ill health. He was born in Garland, ME on October 3, 1926 the son of Aurele and Marie (Laflamme) Chabot. He was educated in the schools of Dexter. For 42 years Philip was a machinist for Fayscott in Dexter. He also farmed and milked 35 head of cattle for many years. He enjoyed having a huge vegetable garden that he would share with his family and friends. Philip also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sitting on the porch of his son’s camp telling his many stories of the past. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Philip A. and Lorie Chabot, Charles and Diane Chabot all of Dexter, two daughters Betty Chabot of Dexter and Sandra Sinclair of Florida; two grandchildren Ashley and Ryan Chabot of Dexter and two step-grandchildren Brandon and Kimberly Derosier of Dexter; four sisters, Jeanette Clukey, Rita Clukey, Helen Clukey, and Florence Gould all of Dexter, and a special niece, Susan Manson of Corinna and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Mary (Edgecomb) Chabot, two grandchildren Shannon and Christopher Sinclair, a son-in-law Galen Sinclair and four brothers; Lewis, Joseph, Lionel, and Paul Chabot. At his request there are no public visiting hours. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on June 24, 2006 at the family lot in the Morse’s Corner cemetery, Corinna. Newman B. Gee

ST. ALBANS - Newman Brannen Gee, 50, died unexpectedly March 9, 2006 as the result of a logging accident. He was born February 19, 1956 at Waterville, a son of John and Patricia (Brannen) Gee. Newman graduated from Nokomis Regional High, Class of 1975, and attended Southern Maine Community College. He was a self-employed farrier, knee logger, furniture maker and sculptor, owning “Newman’s Knees”, a business located on the family farm, where he was raised. He was a member of the Farm Family Association, the Maine Wood Products Association, Valley Arts Alliance, Chairman of the St. Albans Housing Corporation and the St. Albans Budget Committee. He was also a past selectman, a former volunteer firefighter, and past member of the planning board and the comprehensive plan committee for the Town of St. Albans. In addition to his mother, Patricia Brannen Pearson of St. Albans, and his father and step-mother, John and Kitty Gee of Chesterville, he is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Christina (McCarty) Gee of St. Albans; two sons, Brannen and Devin, both of St. Albans; a brother, Michael and wife Christine Gee, and daughter Courtney of South China; 3 sisters, Evelyn and Bill Kieltyka and daughter Molly of Winthrop, Pamela Gee and her partner Pat Cuva of Portland, Janyce and husband Bob Volodkevich and daughters, Maria and Katie of Sammamish, Washington; a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Harry D. Depew III

DIXMONT - Harry D. Depew III, 19, left this world March 2, 2006, as the result of a tragic auto accident. He was the loving son of Harry D. Depew Jr. and Cristine Depew. Harry was born October 7, 1986, in Middletown, Conn., but moved to Maine with his family when he was only one month old. Maine was his home. He was a 2005 graduate of Nokomis Regional High School. Harry was in his second semester at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, where he was a student in the Machine Tool Technology program. He was on his way to class when the accident occurred. Harry was a gentle giant who enjoyed building models. His favorites were medieval siege machines and complex LEGO models and he never lost a single piece. He also enjoyed video games, sci-fi movies and collecting movie memorabilia, especially the Godzilla series. He looked forward every year to hunting camp in November, even if he only made it out in the afternoon. Harry was very fond of all his family pets, but especially his two snakes and his dog, Blue. He leaves behind his parents; his sister, Renee A. Depew and her fiance, Brent Hicks, of Newport; two aunts Margi and Patricia Depew; four cousins, Bret, Traci, Brock and Troy Depew; his grandmother, Eloise Depew; and extended family, all of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his grandparents; and his two uncles, "Fritz" and Barry Depew. He will always be remembered for the special person he was by those who knew him best and who he cared for the most, Mr. Art from Jersey, Terry Campbell, Wayne Steller, his friends from the Newport Area and many of his teachers. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service at this time. There will be a tree planting in Harry's memory on the Eastern Maine Community College campus this spring, exact date and time to be announced in this paper and the Bangor Daily News. All who wish to attend and share memories of Harry are invited to attend.

Philip L. Brann

CORINNA - Philip L. Brann 50 died unexpectedly February 27, 2006 at his Corinna residence. He was born in Dexter April 4, 1955 the son of Frederick B. and Lorraine H. (Harris) Brann. He was educated in Corinna schools. Philip was employed as a Machinist for several years at Target Industries in Conn. He also worked at several local Maine Mills. Philip was an animal lover and enjoyed the company of his two cats. He is survived by his mother and step-father Lorraine and Frederick Hunter of Corinna, his wife Jane Brann of Burnham, two daughters Miriam Bragdon of Bangor, Amanda Patterson of Burnham, one son Troy Patterson of St. Albans, four sisters Mona and Donald Brown of Hartland, Sharon and Charles Brown of St. Albans, Diana and Benny Flood of Corinna, Kimberly Thompson and companion Chris Higgins of Corinna, nine grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His father Frederick Brann and his companion Pamela Gould predeceased him. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 PM on Monday, March 6, 2006 at the Morse’s Corner Baptist Church Corinna. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments in the church hall of the Morse’s Corner Baptist Church. Muriel I. Simpson

CORINNA - Muriel Irene Simpson, 81, died October 1, 2006 with her loving family by her side at Hibbards Nursing home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born December 16, 1924 in Garland, the daughter of Harold and Elsie (Smith) French. Muriel attended school in Garland, where she lived with her grandparents, Eugene and Maude French. After graduating from school, Muriel married Roger L. Simpson on June 1, 1945 and they were married for 61 years. Muriel was a homemaker, loving mother and an excellent cook which was her favorite thing to do. A big heartfelt thanks is extended from her family to all the staff at Hibbards who had a hand in caring for Muriel, she loved each of you dearly. Surviving in addition to her husband, Roger of Corinna are her children, Alice M. Duthie of Charleston, Althea M. Wyman and her husband, Tom of Biddeford and Ronald H. Simpson and his wife, Julie “Beth” of Corinna; a brother, John French and his wife, Charlene of Dover-Foxcroft; a sister, Rachel Watson and her husband, Steven of Levant; 6 grandchildren, Deborah Duthie, Amy Webster, Adam Wyman, Sarrah, Samantha and Ronald “RJ” Simpson Jr., 2 great grandchildren, Katie Duthie-Neal and Colby Webster and many nieces and nephews. Also special friends, Ann and Elmer Zimmerman. Muriel was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Libby. Following Muriel’s request, a graveside memorial services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the Corinna Center cemetery with Reverend Edward Jaworski officiating. Following the service, there will be a gathering at Ron’s to celebrate Muriel’s life with the things that she loved, good food, good conversation and time with family and friends. Edward (Ed) John Bubar

BURNHAM - Edward (Ed) John Bubar, 58, died unexpectedly at home after a brief illness Monday October 2, 2006. Born in Hartland, ME on May 25, 1948, son of Doris Swift Bubar and John E. Bubar. Ed lived almost all his life in Burnham, except for a few years in Michigan. Ed married Rita Flood Dunton on October 3, 1992. Ed graduated from Maine Central Institute and trained and spent his whole career in welding and fabrication. In his early career, Ed worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, ME, Bohm Aluminum Brass in Holland, MI, and Main Cascade Iron Works in Clinton, ME. He was proud of a 26 year career in fabrication with Cianbro Corporation working in Pittsfield, ME, as an estimator for the last 13 years, until April of this year. Ed was a man who liked the simple things in life, going to work every day, and being with the people he cared about and loved. He spent countless hours doing deeds of kindness for his family, especially for his children and grandchildren. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother in law, son, son in law and friend. His favorite place to spend time was his and Rita’s camp on Moose Pond in Hartland with his grandchildren teaching them to fish, swim, and enjoy the great outdoors. He always had the camp fire going ready to cook for his family and friends. Ed enjoyed hunting, staying on the coast and in different camps in Northern Maine, and traveling with his wife Rita out west and in Florida. He enjoyed being out on his Tractor and looked forward to retiring in a few years to his camp in Hartland, traveling, the country and spending more time with the ones he loved, doing what he enjoyed. Ed was predeceased by his father John Bubar and grandson Matthew King. Ed is survived by his wife Rita, his daughter Lori Ann King and her husband Jeff and his grandson Cody, his son Todd Bubar and his granddaughter Mariah, his step-son William Dunton and grandchildren Indy and Shelby, his mother Doris Bubar, his brother Dean Bubar and wife Effe, brother Larry David Bubar, brother Thomas Bubar, brother Donald Bubar and wife Roberta, sister Linda Pomeroy and companion Kim Hunt, two special mother in-law's Carmelita Flood and ex-mother in-law Audrey Goucher, brother in-law Neil Flood and wife Hilda, His ex-wife Donna Bubar and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Visiting hours will he held on Wednesday October 4, 2006 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the funeral home with the Reverend Ronald Brusseau officiating. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Ernest R. Thompson, Sr.

PLYMOUTH - Ernest R. Thompson Sr. 69 died unexpectedly Tuesday Oct 3, 2006 at a Pittsfield hospital following a period of failing health. He was born in Garland Aug. 23, 1937 the son of Sumner and Mary Thompson. He was educated in schools of Garland. Ernest owned and operated a refuge removal business for many years. He is survived by one son Ernest R. Thompson Jr. of Plymouth, two daughters Annette Langella of Etna, Cindy Robichauld of Poughkeepsie New York, 2 brothers Sumner and Clyde, 4 sisters Arlene, Vivian, Sandra, and Barbara, 5 grandchildren. There are no public services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center Newport.

Kenneth H. Lane

CHARLTON, MA & ST. ALBANS, ME - Kenneth H. Lane, 78 died Thursday, September 21, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Lorraine (Neal) Lane; a son, Dennis Weeks; five daughters: Nancy Lane & David Greene of Newport, Darlene Lawler and her husband Paul of Dixmont, Kandes Bates and Darren Greene of Palmyra, Lori Fall and her husband Kevin of Wilberham, MA, and Ronica Moriarty of Charlton, MA; one brother: Robert Lane; four sisters: Joyce Michuald, Gloria Willegar, Karen Faulkner and Kendra Chisholm; 18 grandchildren: Rhonda Burton, Tim Davis, Paul Lawler, Denise Cleveland, Kenny Lawler, Ivan Bates, Megan Fall, Doug Bates, Melissa Marin, Holly Bates, Matthew Fall, Valerie Dean, Mark Moriarty, Hillary Bates, Timmy Moriarty, Zachary Moriarty and Mariah Moriarty; 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his stepmother Mildred (McAlpine) Lane; his brother Joel Lane; his grandson Herbert J. Bates III; and three great-grandchildren: Jackie Davis, Brandon Cleveland and Ethan Cleveland. He was born in Sherman Mills, Maine to the late Harold and Florence (Buzzell) Lane, and lived in Maine for 48 years before moving to Massachusetts. Mr. Lane was employed by the Worcester Dept. of Public Works for the past 30 years where he cut the grass around the city reservoirs using his team of draft horses. He was also the driver for the popular sleigh and hay rides at the Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield, MA and did many private hay rides, sleigh rides and weddings. His casket was carried by his favorite horse Bucky and driven by his grandsons, Paul and Zack, to Salem Cross Inn after his funeral services. Committal Services will be held at the St. Albans Village cemetery on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Libby form North Brookfield, MA officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ken Lane-Draft Horse Single Log Skid Memorial Trophy Fund, c/o the Spencer Fair, P.O. Box 46 Spencer, MA 01562.
