Bruce F. Lincoln

SCARBOROUGH — Bruce F. Lincoln, 64, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in a Portland hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Augusta, son of Carlisle and Vivian Fletcher Lincoln, and grew up in the town of Wayne. He was a 1958 graduate of Winthrop High School. He served in the Navy, and upon discharge he attended Thomas College in Waterville, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business.

He was employed by the Maine Department of Transportation, Maine Parks and Recreation Department and the Maine Inland Fisheries and the Wildlife, retiring in March 1991. He was currently employed at Ace Hardware in Scarborough.

He was the recipient of the Parks-Lincoln Scarborough Marsh Conservation Award from the Maine Inland Fisheries Department in September 2002. He was also recognized for his dedicated works on the Sewall Woods Conservation Project.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice (Nielson) Lincoln of Scarborough; a brother, Carlisle Lincoln of Peaks Island; a sister Sylvia, Andrews of Fayette; and several nieces, nephews, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visiting hour will be held 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Scarborough Land Trust, P.O. Box 1237, Scarborough 04070-1237.

Statia S. Burdzel

AUGUSTA — Statia S. Burdzel, 86, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home.

She was born in New Bedford, Mass., October 4, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie (Kokoszka) Sliva. She attended school in Massachusetts, moving to Augusta at the age of 16. She met her future husband, John A. Burdzel, around that time.

Statia and John were married May 16, 1931. They moved around Massachusetts and Rhode Island looking for work during the Depression, but moved back to Augusta in the mid-1930s.

Mrs. Burdzel worked for several years at Edwards Mfg. Co.-Edwards Division, and then as a lab assistant for the state Department of Human Services until her retirement in the early 1980s.

Statia loved York Beach and spent many vacations there enjoying the ocean with her family. She also loved to read.

She was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church.

Mrs. Burdzell was predeceased by her husband in 1972; her brother, Walter Sliva; her grandson, Michael Veilleux; and her sons-in-law, Ronald Veilleux and Eugene Cybart Sr.

She is survived by a son, Peter J. Burdzel and his wife Sharon, of Hopkinton, Mass.; three daughters, Julie Cybart, of Beacon Falls, Conn., Vikki Nault and her husband Jerry, of Windsor, and Barbara Veilleux, of Augusta; two brothers, Chester Sliva, of Charlotte, N.C., and Edward Sliva, of Augusta; nine grandchildren, Eugene Cybart Jr., Barbara Cybart, Nancy Meliso, Douglas Cybart, Debra French, Statia Ackerman, Starr Cloutier, Bryan Burdzel and Jeffrey Burdzel; and eight great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at St. Andrew's Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Michael Seavey the celebrant. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester.

William D. Radley

ROCKLAND — William Duane Radley, infant son of Brenda Radley, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

William was born at his home in Rockland, Feb. 8, 2000.

Besides his mother, he is survived by maternal grandparents Willard and Dedde Radley, of Rockland; maternal great-grandmother Lois Bragg, of West Rockport; and several aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles and many cousins.

A celebration of William's life will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Feb. 28, at Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, 1 Waldo Ave., Rockland. The Rev. Dr. Linwood Welch will officiate. Interment will be in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the William Duane Radley Scholarship Fund, Pen Bay Christian Schools, 1 Waldo Ave., Rockland 04841. Arrangements are under the direction of Burpee-Strong Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.

Marguerite Devine

AUGUSTA — Marguerite Devine, 83, of Cony Road and formerly of Powhattan Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Maine Veterans Home, after a long illness.

She was born in St. Rose, Canada on March 13, 1916, the daughter of Adolphe Beaulieu and Rachel (Rodrigue) Beaulieu.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Devine had been employed by Bates Mfg. Co.-Edwards Division, for 38 years.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Fitzgerald-Cummings American Legion Post 2 Auxiliary, Cushnoc Senior Citizens, 40 & 8, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8 Auxiliary and a life member of Military Order of Cooties.

Her husband, Peter N. Devine, died May 27, 1961. A daughter, Helen Beaulieu, died Feb. 16, 1995, and a brother, Joseph Beaulieu, died Oct. 27, 1999.

Surviving are three daughters, Emily Chavarie, of Sidney, Nellie Whipple, of Chelsea, and Edith Pierce, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Rose Clough, of Winthrop, Alice Hall, of Claremont, N.H., and Irene Papolos, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Spring interment is planned in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Affiliate, 9 Church St., P.O. Box 2208, Augusta, 04338-2208.

Frances S. Luddy

AUGUSTA — Frances S. Luddy, 96, of Augusta, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Graybirch Drive.

She was born Jan. 8, 1904, in Roxbury, Mass., the daughter of Henri Walton Smith and Florence (Hodgdon) Smith.

Frances attended grade school in West Somerville, Mass., and Hallowell. She graduated from high school, in Hallowell, in 1921. Frances was a 1922 graduate of Shaw's Business School, in Augusta.

Mrs. Luddy worked for 10 years as a bookkeeper at H.G. Barker Clothing Store, 16 years as a bookkeeper at Bates Mfg. Co.-Edwards Division, 17 years as a stenographer at Maine Milk Commission, and three years in the budget-finance office at the State House. She retired in 1972.

Frances had been a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church since 1938, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 15 years. She was a member of Diaconate, Grace Missionary Guild, charter member of Mother's Club and a member of Galbraith Group.

Mrs. Luddy was predeceased by her sister, Halice Sutter.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara F. Olson, and her husband, Paul, of Waterville; five grandchildren, Cheryl Brown, of Manchester, N.H., Karen Bartlett, of Norwich, Conn., Paula Olson, of Waterville, Eric Olson, of Manchester, N.H., and Marie-Anne Olson, of Oceanside, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Kimberly Bartlett, Nathan Bartlett, Ehren Brown and Garrett Olson. She also is survived by two nieces, Althea Sutter and Yvonne Low; and many friends.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours for Frances.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Penney Memorial United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. S. Robert Beaumont officiating.

Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, 35 Grove St., Augusta 04330.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.

Bernadette O. Fortin

WATERVILLE — Bernadette O. Fortin, 89, died Monday evening, May 8, 2000, at Lakewood Manor Nursing Home, at Waterville.

She was born Nov. 22, 1910, in Canada, daughter of Joseph and Elise (Vashon) Pellerin.

Bernadette was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, in Waterville.

She was the widow of Anthony J. Fortin, who passed away Aug. 13, 1973. She also was predeceased by a daughter, Madeline Ducharme, in 1969.

Survivors include her five daughters, Mrs. Roger (Lorraine) Dufour, of Skowhegan, Gloria Rose, of Simsbury, Conn., Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Coates, of Randolph, Mrs. Richard (Rita) Webber, of Vassalboro, and Mrs. Warren (Jeanne) Shay, of Skowhegan; two sons, Richard Fortin, and his wife, Elaine, of Oakland, and Albert Fortin, and his wife, Francine, of Oakland; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 50 Elm St., Waterville, with the Rev. Ralph Boisvert officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.

Donations in her memory can be sent to Lakewood Manor Nursing Home, c/o Swing Chair Fund, 220 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville 04901, or Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen, 70 Pleasant St., Waterville 04901.

Jenni L. Bemis

NEWPORT — Jenni Lynn Bemis, 20, died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at a Bangor hospital, from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident in Palmyra earlier in the day.

She was born in Bangor, Jan. 7, 1980, the daughter of Keith W. and Eileen (Ordway) Bemis.

Jenni attended Newport schools through junior high school, and then attended Mount View High School for two years. She graduated from Nokomis Regional High School in 1998.

While attending Newport schools, she was a member of the Gifted and Talented Program. At Mount View High School, she participated on the basketball and softball teams.

She was a member of Children's International Summer Villages program, and went to Thailand in January 1992 as an ambassador for a month.

At the time of her death, Jenni was employed at Tape Escape, in Newport, and ADA Fence, in Palmyra.

She is survived by her mother, Eileen Bemis, of Newport; her father and stepmother, Keith Bemis and Rose Walker, of Newport; her brother, Trevor M. Bemis, of Newport; stepbrother, Josh Walker, of Waterville; two stepsisters, Jennifer Walker, of Waterville, and Rebecca Walker, of Newport; maternal grandparents, Jane and Russell Sawyer, of Newport; paternal grandmother, Mary Braley, of Glenburn; paternal grandfather and his wife, Milford and Barbara Bemis Jr., of Stetson; maternal great-grandmother, Martha Alexander, of Florida; special uncle, David Bemis, of Dixmont; and several more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also will be remembered by close friends, Nathan Roy and Tara Tracy, amd many more friends.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Brown Funeral Home, 24 High St., Newport. A combined funeral service with her great-grandmother, Claudia Boyle, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 2, at High Street Congregational Church, Newport, with Pastor Al W. Worden officiating.

Friends who wish may make memorial donations in Jenni's memory to Pittsfield Animal Shelter, RR 1, Box 3965, Pittsfield 04967.

Leigh Blanchard

TURNER — Leigh Blanchard, 45, of Turner, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Augusta, on July 17, 1954, the son of Leland and Barbara Blanchard, and the late Dorothy Libby. He attended schools in both Augusta and Skowhegan.

Leigh married Christine Paquet on June 7, 1975.

He was employed at Scott Farms, in Norridgewock, Six Corners Nursery, in Auburn, and Raymau Farms, in Auburn, until his disability, in 1992.

He loved his family, his pets, the outdoors, farming, and woodworking.

He was a kind, gentle, and caring man, always quick to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors.

He was predeceased by his sister, Diane, in 1988, and his mother, Dorothy Libby, in 1993.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Christine, of Turner; two sons, Scott, and his companion, Erica Guay, of Lewiston, and Brian, and his companion, Zan Boothby, of Turner; his parents, Leland and Barbara Blanchard, of Augusta; his sister, Lynette French, of Rock River, Wyo.; his brother Darren, of Eamonds, Wash.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are from 2-4 p.m. Friday, June 2, at The Fortin Group, Turner and Center streets, Auburn.
