Jean Silvius, 83, of Wells, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at her home.

Further arrangements are being handled by Fletcher Funeral Home in Keene, NH.

John B. Surrett

John B. Surrett, 70, of Goose Rocks Beach, died Saturday afternoon at Southern Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Arlington, Massachusetts on April 20, 1935, a son of Howard L. Surrett Sr and Mary Elizabeth Cole.

He received his primary education in Arlington schools before moving to Maine, where he graduated from Kennebunk High School. He earned a Navy ROTC Scholarship and graduated from Tufts University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering; and later an MBA from Northeastern University. In 1957, he attended flight school , and remained on active duty until 1962. He then transferred to the reserves where he completed 20 years of service, retiring as a full Commander. He was a pilot, and flew the P-2V Neptune reconnaissance aircraft. He spent 4 years in Okinawa flying with Patrol Squadron Four (VP-4).

On August 30, 1958, he married Janet Millinchamp in Waterloo, Quebec.

John and his brother, Howard, owned Dyar Sales and Machinery Company, in North Reading, Massachusetts.

Together with Janet, John enjoyed traveling throughout the world, camping along the coast of Maine on their Boston Whaler, and family picnics on Vaughn Island. Other interests included volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, architectural design, badminton, boating, golf, bridge, and spending time with his grandchildren.

John is survived by: Janet, his wife of nearly 47 years; his children: Robin and Jim Davis, Indianapolis, IN, Robert and Laura Surrett, Roswell, GA, Karen and Stephen Ishihara, Andover, MA, Cynthia and Matthew McDonnell, Wells, ME; Peter Surrett, Wells, ME; and Jennifer and James Jette, North Attleborough, MA; his brother, Howard L. Surrett, Jr., North Hampton, NH and his
grandchildren: Emily, Cooper, Alexander, Benjamin, Caroline, Carter, Chad, Hunter, Kendal, Leah and Delaney.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 138 York Street, Kennebunk.

Everyone is invited to visit with the family through the weekend, at their home at Goose Rocks Beach.

John Evans, age 80, of Agawam, formerly of Saco, died March 12, 2006. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (McGinnis). He is survived by his son, John Evans, of Connecticut; and three daughters, Mary Clare DiGiacomo and her husband, Frank, of Virginia; Frances Evans-Kreifels and her husband, Douglas, of Nebraska, Rose Evans and her partner, Terri Cain, of Massachusetts; Mary Therese deceased and 6 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Holy Cross Parish in South Easton, Massachusetts. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers please say a prayer for PEACE!

John P. Searles

John P. Searles, 80, of Branch Road, died Wednesday at Southern Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Caribou on December 10, 1924, a son of Jack E. and Ellen N. Smith Searles.

On February 3, 1945, he married Isabelle Carson.

Mr. Searles worked for a time as a welder. But the majority of his career was spent as a long haul trucker. He was a self-employed owner-operator for almost 30 years.

He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps, followed by hitches in the Air Force, and the Navy.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Although he worked as a trucker, it was also his hobby and passion.

John was pre-deceased by 2 sisters: Margaret Holmes and Anna Searles; and one brother: George Searles.

Survivors include:
his wife of 60 years, of Wells, ME.
5 sons: John Searles of Shelton, CT; George Searles of Dallas, TX; Thomas Searles of Waterboro, ME; Al Searles of West Kennebunk; and Gary Searles of Wells.
4 daughters: Janet Pernek of Monroe, CT; Susan Wyllie of Milford, CT; Linda Searles of Hollis, ME; and Lois Searles of Wells.
5 brothers: Claude and Ronald Searles, of Wells; Phillip Searles of East Rochester, NH; Lloyd Searles of Sanbornville, NH; and Donald Searles of Chelsea, ME.
4 sisters: Ruth Fleming of Kennebunk, ME; Grace Hilton of Wells; Vivian Parker of Farmington, NH; and Lois Martin of El Paso, TX.
20 grandchildren
15 great grandchildren
1 great great grandchild
many nieces and nephews

Calling hours are from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Peter W. Leon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Wells.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Beacon Hospice, 42 Brickyard Court, York, ME. 03909.

June (Wentworth) Chretien, 87, of Fern St., Drakes Island, Wells, ME and formerly of Auburndale, MA died July 16th at her home.

She was born in Nashua, NH on November 30, 1917, the daughter of Lawrence and Esther Wentworth.

June graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1935.

She resided in Auburndale, MA from 1946 to 1985 and relocated to Drakes Island, ME upon retirement.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Thomas E. Chretien.

Surviving are her three daughters: Mary Louise Chretien of Hudson, ME; Mrs. Robert (Judith) Lundgren of Little River, SC; and Mrs. Richard (Anne Marie) Fantasia of Marlboro, MA. Also surviving are her four grandchildren: Kerry Regan of Santa Monica, CA; Todd Flaherty of Chelmsford, MA; Kaitlin and Kristine Fantasia of Marlborough, MA.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Eldridge Road, Wells.

Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.

Leo I. Driscoll Jr,

Leo I. Driscoll 87 years a resident of Mills Road Cape Porpoise died Thursday May 19, 2005 as a result of an automobile accident in North Berwick.

Leo was born in Kennebunkport, ME on January 13, 1918 a son of Leo I. And Euleta Mae Allen Driscoll Sr. He graduated from Kennebunkport High School and graduated from Becker College, Worcester, MA.

He was employed by the American Steel and Wire Co. of Worcester, MA for several years then he served in World War II in Navy and Army.

After the war, he worked for the Diamond Match Company for several years before he became as office manager for King-Gagne Corp. of Natick, Mass. before retiring in 1978. He was a 60 year member of the DAV of Natick, MA and member of the Church on the Cape, Cape Porpoise.

After his retirement, he opened his own frame shop the “CAPE FRAME SHOP” in Cape Porpoise during the summer season. He enjoyed many hobbies.
He was predeceased by his wife Emily Driscoll; two brothers John and Irvan Driscoll; and a sister Mary Pease.

He is survived by his daughter Mrs. Robert (Diana Lee) Blank of Baltimore, MD; a sister Nancy Seymour of Poughkeepsie, New York; three grandchildren Lisa Simms, Rebecca Blank and David Blank; and a grandson in law Greg Simms and granddaughter in law Kyleen Blank and two great-grandchildren Maya Louise Blank and Layla Emily Blank.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday May 24 th at the Church on the Cape, Lansford Road Cape Porpoise with the Reverend Ruth Merriman officiating. Burial will be held at 2 PM at the Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport, Me.

Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine 122 State Street Augusta, Me 04330, or to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust P.O. Box 7028, Cape Porpoise, Me 04014 or to the charity of one choice in Mr. Driscoll’s memory.

Leroy "Luke" Fournier

Leroy “Luke” Fournier, 80, of Moody Beach, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at York Hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Fournier was born in Sanford Sept. 5, 1924, a son of Charles H. and Florence (Doyle) Fournier. He graduated from Sanford in 1942 and joined the Navy.

He served in the South Pacific as a Quartermaster, 2nd Class, on the destroyer USS Izard DD589.

After the war, he used the GI Bill to attend the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He graduated with a degree in Geological Engineering.

He explored for oil in Turkey, Libya, Peru, Borneo, Pakistan, Houston and Indonesia from 1950 - 1986.

After retiring to Moody Beach, Mr. Fournier taught Geology at St. Joseph's College in Standish for two years.

He was the Vice Commander of the Leroy Hanson Post of the American Legion, and has been instrumental in organizing the Wells and Ogunquit Memorial Day Parades. Mr. Fournier was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Wells B.P.O.E. #2736.

He also was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the American Institute of the Professional Geologists.

Mr. Fournier has been a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wells.

He is predeceased by a brother, George of Sanford.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Elinor; a son, Frederick of Moody Beach; daughters, Juliet Williams and Rosemary Yandell of Portland, Ore.; two granddaughters, Claire Williams of Somerville, Mass., and Helen Williams of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Norman of Sanford; and a sister, Anna Marie O'Brien of North Chelmsford, Mass.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, at St. Mary's Church, Eldridge Road, Wells.

Burial will follow at Ocean View Cemetery.
