Bruce Muzzy, 51
1999-08-27

Bruce Muzzy, son of George and Beatrice Muzzy, of Gray, passed away on Monday, August 23, in Oklahoma. He was 51.

He graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1966. He was in the U.S. Army, and served in Germany before moving to Oklahoma. He was married to the late Linda Snow, of New Gloucester.

Muzzy is survived by his parents; two sons, Christopher, of Oklahoma, and Scott, USN, of Florida; a brother, Peter Muzzy, of Portland, ME; two sisters, Susan Wood, of California, and Karen Webb, of Virginia; three grandchildren, Evan, Hannah and Kylie Muzzy; four nieces and one nephew.

Florence W. Myers
1999-04-22

Florence White Myers died Saturday, April 17 at Hill House in Bath.

She was born on March 12, 1903 in Brooklyn, New York, and lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey for 50 years with her late husband, Walter, before moving to Maine in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Bugbee of Southport; two grandchildren, Doug and Sandy of Burlington, Vermont; and two great-grandchildren.

Harold O. Main
1999-10-07

Harold O. Main, 77, died at his home in Boothbay on Sunday, October 3.

Born in Wiscasset, he was the son of Leslie and Elizabeth Day Main. He grew up in Wiscasset and attended local schools. He moved to Boothbay and started Dover's Used Cars and Part sin the early 1960s. A couple of years ago he retired.

Mr. Main enjoyed building things, hunting and tinkering at his yard. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor F. Main, who died in 1995.

Survivors include four sons, Philip J. Main of Edgecomb, Gary N. Main of Bath, Neal R. Main of Boothbay, and Charles R. Main of Woolwich; three brothers, Richard Main of Boothbay, Frank Main of Boothbay Harbor, and John Main of Southport; three sisters, Margaret Whittier of Winterport, Alice Plummer of Boothbay, and Betty Wylie of Boothbay; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, October 6 at the Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Miles Home Health Hospice, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Arrangements were under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Mr. Myron D. McAllister
1999-11-04

NORWAY - Myron D. McAllister, 101, of Oxford died Sunday, October 31, 1999 at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born in East Stoneham on May 23, 1898, a son of Johnathon and Mattie Ball McAllister.

He was educated in Stoneham and Waterford schools.

He had been a school bus driver in Oxford for 34 years. He was a dairy farmer as well, selling milk to Oakhurst Dairy for many years.

He was a member of the Grange in Waterford and the Odd Fellows in Oxford. He was presented with the Boston Gold Cane in 1997.

He married Hazel I. Martin on October 7, 1921, and they made their home on Allen Hill in Oxford.

She died on December 9, 1993.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis McKay and Eleanor Pike, both of Oxford; a son, Durwood McAllister of Norway, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, 230 Main St., Norway with the Rev. Gertrude DeCoteau officiating.

Interment will be in the Webberbrook cemetery in Oxford. Family and friends attended visiting hours on Wednesday evening.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Oxford Fire and Rescue, P. O.Box 273, Oxford, ME 04270.

Mrs. Abbie L. MacKendrick
1999-11-04

NORWAY - Abbie L. MacKendrick, 85, of Fryeburg died Tuesday morning, October 26, 1999 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Buckfield,October 11, 1914, the daughter of Clyde Ellingwood Sr. and Florence Keene Ellingwood Fifield.

She attend school in Mechanic Falls and graduated from New Britain High School in New Britain,CT.

In her younger years she worked at Marcal Paper in Mechanic Falls.

She had made her home in California for 30 years and was active in the Victorville Assembly of God Church.

She returned to Maine in 1981 and made her home in Fryeburg where she was very active in the assembly of God Church.

She was married to Clifford MacKendrick who died in February 1970.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Daune and Irene MacKendrick of Scotsdale, Arizona; four sisters, Margaret Brissette and Geneva Hackett of Mechanic Falls, Ruth Bean of South Paris and Janice Peaslee of Fryeburg; one brother, Ivan Fifield, of Mechanic Falls and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, C. Merle Ellingwood Jr.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls with Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday prior to the services.

Mr. Leo J. Morrissette
1999-11-11

SOUTH PARIS - Leo J. Morrissette, 84, of Norway died Tuesday November 9, 1999 at the Maine Veterans' Home in South Paris.

He was born at Norway on July 16, 1915, the son of Adelard and Emma Roy Morrissette.

He was a graduate of South Paris High School in 1934. He had worked at A.C. Lawrence Leather, the shoe factory, the novelty mill, and retired from Burlington Homes.

He was a member and communicant of Saint Catherines of Sienna in Norway. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.

He was an avid sports fan, playing football, softball, and baseball. He was well known for his umpiring in the Oxford Hills area.

He married Lucille Frost who died in 1978. He then married Esther Frost in 1981.

He is survived by his wife of Norway; two daughters, Bonnie McAllister of Norway, and Terri Brown of Poland Spring; two sons, Mitchell of Norway, and Michael of Norway; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step children, Bradley Frost of South Paris, Roberta Atwood of Benton, and Carol Frost of Bridgton; 14 step grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren and two sisters Angelina of Glen Rock, NJ, and Theresa of Rockland.

He was predeceased by a stepchild, Anita Gatlin; two sisters, Sylvia and Florence and a brother, Ovila.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m.. Saturday November 13 at Saint Catherine's of Sienna in Norway with Fr. Lawrence Conley officiating.

Interment will be in the Riverside Annex cemetery in South Paris. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Morrissette's memory may be sent to either the James McKinney Fund, c/o of the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School 256 Main St. South Paris, Me. 04281 or to the Norway Little League c/o Deb Partridge 256 Main St. Norway, Maine 04268.

Arrangements under the direction of the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Mr. Kenneth I. Morse
1999-12-02

NORWAY - Kenneth I. Morse , 59, of North Waterford died Monday November 22, 1999, at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in North Waterford on July 16, 1940, the son of Irving and H. Louise Wales Morse.

He was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy.

Mr. Morse faithfully served our country in the US Army.

He married Dee Dee Morse on April 13, 1965 and she predeceased him in 1993.

Mr. Morse worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He had worked for Ed Thayer Trucking and most recently for Alvin J. Coleman & Son Trucking. Mr. Morse had also been working as a supervisor in his two sons' businesses, Wilson Excavating and Morse Concrete Floors, for the past eight months.

He was a member of the North Waterford Congregational Church and the World's Fair Association.

Mr. Morse was an avid racecar driver and fan for many years. He started racing cars in 1957 and had been in racing for the past five decades at Oxford Plains Speedway. He helped his three sons get into racing cars and was a car owner and crew chief for them. The Morse family has had three championships at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Mr. Morse is survived by his mother, Louise, of Waterford; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Dottie of Waterford, Troy and Colleen of Bridgton, and Michael and Beth of Waterford; two sisters, Martha Morse and Ellen and brother-in-law, Lou, Bernier, all of Waterford; four grandchildren, Spencer, Whitney, Allison, and Brodie, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Hollis.

Visiting hours were held Tuesday evening, November 23, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the North Waterford Congregational Church with Rev. Janice Wilcox officiating.

Interment followed at the Bisbee Town Cemetery.

Donations in Mr. Morse's memory can be made to the Stoneham Rescue P.O. Box 42 E. Stoneham, ME 04231.

John H. MacFadyen
2000-02-24

John H. MacFadyen, 76, an architect and arts administrator, died on Friday night, February 18, 2000, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, of complications resulting from pneumonia.

Born in Duluth, Minnesota on March 5, 1923, he was a graduate from Princeton University with the class of 1946, and earned his Master of Architecture degree, also from Princeton, in 1949.

After World War II, Mr. MacFadyen served with the U.S. Occupying Forces in Japan.

While on the staff of the New York architecture firm of Harrison and Abromowitz, Mr. MacFadyen received the Rome Prize in Architecture and was a fellow in residence at the American Academy in Rome from 1952 to 1953. In 1960, New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller appointed MacFadyen to be the founding Executive Director of the New York State Council on the Arts, the nation's first state arts council. He held that position until 1964, when he became Executive Director of the Associated Councils on the Arts, a national organization of state and local arts councils. Mr. MacFadyen played a central role in shaping the movement toward public support of the arts in the United States.

From 1964 until 1986 Mr. MacFadyen maintained a private practice in architecture, with a special focus on performing arts facilities and residential projects. Among his most notable public buildings were the Saratoga Center of the Performing Arts, in Saratoga Springs, New York; the Mann Music Center at Robinhood Dell, in Philadelphia; and the Wolf Trap Center for the Arts, at Wolf Trap Farm Park, outside Washington, D.C. A member of the Players Club in New York City, Mr. MacFadyen also served on the Board of Directors of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland.

In 1952 Mr. MacFadyen married the former Mary Esther Edge, a daughter of Governor and Mrs. Walter Evans Edge, of Princeton, New Jersey. Mrs. MacFadyen died in 1997.

Long-time summer residents of Small Point, Maine, the MacFadyens moved to Alna year-round in 1990. After his wife's death, Mr. MacFadyen moved to Damariscotta, where he lived until his recent illness. Survivors include three sons, Luke Sewall MacFadyen of Portland, William Loyall MacFadyen of Providence, Rhode Island, and John Tevere MacFadyen of Belmont, Mass; one daughter, Camilla MacFadyen Lewis of Lanesville, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home in Bath.
