Kenneth E. Munsey
2002-01-24

Kenneth E. Munsey, 78, of Wiscasset died Tuesday, January 15 at Wiscasset Green in Wiscasset.

Born in Wiscasset August 24, 1923, he was the son of W. Phillip and Esther (Boles) Munsey. He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy.

Mr. Munsey attended Bowdoin College then moved to Boston, attended New England Conservatory of Music and graduated from Boston University. He taught music and piano in Boston.

He honorably served active duty in the United States Army. For many years he was an organist at the Wiscasset Congregational Church.

He will long be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness and gentle nature.

Survivors include his cousin, Clara Wentworth and her husband Joseph, of Wiscasset; their sons, Les Went-worth, of Wiscasset, Sky and his wife Janet Fowle of Wiscasset and many cousins from Maine, New York and Florida.

There will be no visiting hours. A Graveside Service will be held in Jackson cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miles Home Health/Hospice, c/o Development Office, 42 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543.

Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Barbara W. McCorkle
2002-09-05

Barbara W. McCorkle, 74, died Friday, August 23 at her home in Boothbay Harbor.

She was known for being enthusiastic about many things; her sons, grandsons, playing bridge, her love of Maine and especially her love for Boothbay Harbor. She also loved all animals, both domestic and wild.

Born February 28, 1928 in Natick, Mass., she was the daughter of Peter and Miriam Wanececk.

She attended schools in Newton, Mass. and attended Westbrook College in Maine. In 1949, she graduated from Mount Ida College in Newton Centre, where she had majored in secretarial studies. She then married Phil Chase and worked as a secretary at Natick Congregational Church. The Chases had two sons and the family moved to Boothbay Harbor in 1965, where she later worked at the Boothbay Register.

From 1972 to 1975, she owned and operated The Sea Widow Boutique in Boothbay Harbor before moving to Portland in 1975. While living in Portland she was employed as a secretary at the Reece Company in Westbrook.

In 1987, she married Hugh McCorkle of Falmouth and they made their home in Boothbay upon his retirement. She was predeceased by Hugh McCorkle in 1995, then returned to Boothbay Harbor, residing there until her death.

Survivors include her sons, Flip Chase and his wife Dollie of Falmouth and Peter Chase of Boothbay Harbor; two grandsons, Caleb Chase of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Ben Chase of Falmouth; one sister, Lois Thomas of South Portland; and her adored cat, Jamison.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 4, at 1 p.m. at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Barbara's memory to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Frank C. Menair IV
2002-10-10

Frank C. Menair IV, 61, died Saturday, Sept. 28 at his home in Ennis, Texas. He was formerly of Wiscasset.

Born Jan. 15, 1941 in Abington, Penn., he was the son of Frank C. and Marian O'Neal Menair. He was raised in Pennsylvania, graduated high school in Jenkintown and attended Temple University where he earned his bachelor's of science degree in engineering.

In 1998, he moved to Ennis from Wiscasset. He was employed by the Dallas Dart Rapid Transit.

Survivors include three sons, Frank C. Menair V of Maine, Emmett E. and Lucien C. Menair both of Ennis; a daughter, Marion Suzanne Menair of Virginia; his wife, Rachel Moore of Ennis; his father, Frank C. Menair III; a brother, David Menair of New York; and a grandson, Zachary Lake.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 13 in the Keever Chapel in Ennis, Texas.

Herbert C. Maynard Sr.
2002-11-07

Herbert Charles Maynard Sr., 73, of Newcastle passed away on Wednesday, October 16 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Togus Hospital in Augusta.

Born on May 16, 1929 in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of Clifford and Thelma (McLaughlin) Maynard.

Mr. Maynard was a sergeant in the United States Army and served during the Korean War.

An accomplished artist, Mr. Maynard was well known and his works collected by many people, including Burle Ives. He lived and maintained art studios in Boothbay Harbor for several years. He loved music and all forms of art and taught art at the University of Maine. He was a member of the Copley Society in Boston. He also loved to play golf.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Shirley Lynch.

Survivors include his children, Herbert Maynard Jr., Wayne Maynard and Sandra Maynard; one sister, Lucy Crooker of Weston; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and two dear friends of many years, Loretta and Betty.

A memorial service with full military honors was held on Thursday, October 24 at the new Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.

Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to their local humane society.

Arrangements were under the care of Cremation Services of Maine in Belfast.

Margaret MacCormac
2003-08-21

Margaret (Gretta) MacCormac, 95, of Farmington, Conn., wife of the late William E. MacCormac, died Wednesday, August 13.

Born November 14, 1907, in Larne Harbor, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of James and Mary Thompson. She married and emigrated to the United States in 1928, raised three sons in Wantagh, N.Y. After her husband's retirement to Naples, Fla. and Boothbay Harbor, she moved to West Hartford and Farmington, Conn.

Survivors include her sons, E. Alfred and his wife, Loretta of Lindenhurst, N.Y., Kenneth W. and his wife, Mary of West Hartford, Conn., and James E. and his wife, Carol of Victor, Mont.; her sister, Mollie McDowell and her husband, Arthur, and their children, Margaret, Mavis and David; her grandchildren, Robert, William, Bettyann, Timothy, Bruce, Craig, Cynthia and Clayton; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Farmington Valley VNA Hospice Program, 8 Mill Lane, Simsbury, Conn. 06070, or to a charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Taylor & Modeen Funernal Home, West Hartford, Conn.

Ethel L. Mackenzie
2003-08-28

Ethel L. Mackenzie of Boothbay Harbor died at St. Andrews Hospital Sunday morning, August 24.

Born Ethel MacLean in Lincoln, Massachusetts on October 4, 1914, she was raised in Lincoln, graduated from Leslie College in Cambridge, and taught school in Lancaster, Massachusetts. She served as a member of the board of Leslie College for many years. A cherished memory from her youth was accompanying Mrs. James J. (Helen) Storrow, whom she always called "Mummy" Storrow, to Europe when Mrs. Storrow donated a chalet in Switzerland as the international headquarters for the Girl Scouts.

With the MacLean family, she had summered at Southport. In 1946 she married Dr. Roland Chester Mackenzie, also of Lincoln, Massachusetts, and began to summer at the Mackenzie cottage on Capitol Island -- a pleasure she enjoyed for more than half a century. As a summer resident she enjoyed helping deliver Meals on Wheels. Widowed in 1968, Mrs. Mackenzie moved from Lincoln, Massachusetts, to Boothbay Harbor year round in 1992. Survivors include her son Roland (Skip) Chester Mackenzie Jr. and daughter-in-law Jessie Mackenzie and their three sons Alec, Dan, and Nate Mackenzie of Bowdoinham; five step-grandchildren, Cal Mackenzie, John Mackenzie, Meg Custer, Judy Custer, and Nancy Custer Carroll, many of whom summer on Capitol Island; five step-great-grandchildren; many lifelong friends and kind neighbors. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Capitol Island Casino.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Maine Seacoast Mission, 127 West Street, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, or to St. Andrews Hospital, 6 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Stephen A. MacKusick
2003-08-21

Stephen Adams MacKusick, 71, died Tuesday, August 5.

Born in Akron, Ohio to Meridith Hall MacKusick Jr. and Margaret Adams MacKusick, his family moved to California and settled in Palos Verdes Estates.

After playing football for Ohio State, he joined the Naval Air Force and was stationed in San Diego where he chose to reside, working as a mechanic for Shell Oil and later establishing his own company, Adams Construction.

Mr. MacKusick spent his summers at the family residence on Dogfish Head Road in Southport. He enjoyed the quiet summer lifestyle of golfing, fishing and visiting with family and friends. In 2000 he retired to Alpine, California.

Survivors include his wife, Leslie Robard MacKusick of Alpine, Calif.; two daughters, Michelle MacKusick, and Margo Ann Covington, both of San Diego; two sons, Michael Adams MacKusick and Meredith Hall Mac-Kusick IV, both of Boothbay, and their mother, Barbara MacKusick of San Diego; five grandchildren; one sister, Margot Hanson of Southport, aunt, Jean Watson of Southport; and many cousins, nieces, nephews; and five adult step-children.

There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 4 at 1 p.m. for family and friends at the Dogfish Head residence.

In lieu of flowers, make any local contributions to the Southport Fire Department in his name.

Janice A. Maddocks
2003-03-20

Janice Ann Maddocks, 62, of Boothbay, died Thursday, March 13 at Miles Memorial Hospital.

A native of Boothbay, she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her warmth, empathy and hospitality were defining traits; her interests were unselfish and varied.

Mrs. Maddocks enjoyed a lifelong interest in scholastic sports. She coached YMCA midget league basketball and spent 16 years rooting for her children's teams at Boothbay Region High School. She played trumpet in the Boothbay Community Band and in a brass quintet. Mrs. Maddocks was an avid gardener and an excellent cook. She was actively involved in the Community of Christ as an ordained minister. In addition, she owned and operated Out to Sea Antique Shop in Boothbay Harbor.

Survivors include her husband, Sewall T. Maddocks of Boothbay; six children, Michele M. Leeman of Walpole, Sewall T. Maddocks Jr. of Boothbay, Cynthia M. Hiller of Mattapoisett, Mass., Sarah M. Stedt of Hopkinton, Mass., Suzanne M. Rende of Augusta and Sandra J. Luke of Clinton, Conn.; her mother, Dorothy Parmenter of Boothbay Harbor; one sister, Dorothy Brewer of Boothbay Harbor; one brother, Norman "Sonny" Parmenter of South Berwick and Yuma, Arizona; and 14 grandchildren.

A celebration of Mrs. Maddocks life will be held at the Boothbay Playhouse on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m.

Burt B. Mader Jr.
2003-06-26

Burt B. Mader Jr., of Boothbay, died at his home on Thursday evening, June 19.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts April 30, 1931, he was the son of Burt B. and Eugene (Coffoz) Mader.

Following his public education, Mr. Mader attended the Rhode Island School of Design, as well as the Massachusetts College of Art. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and after his discharge began a career in commercial art. For many years he contracted with several Boston advertising agencies and most recently was self-employed as a fine arts aviation artist, publishing his own limited edition aviation prints.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria of Boothbay; two daughters; and three grandchildren.

Private services are under the care of the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main Street in Damariscotta.

Richard L. Main
2003-12-04

Richard L. Main, 76, died Monday, December 1 at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born June 18, 1927 in Wiscasset, he was the son of Leslie and Elizabeth Day Main. He grew up in Wiscasset and attended local schools.

Mr. Main worked as a stone mason. He also dug worms and cut wood, and worked at Sample's Shipyard doing maintenance work.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Navy. He was a member and past commander of the Isaac Giles V.F.W., and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, dancing and socializing.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rena Main of Boothbay; two sons, Ernie Carver of West Boothbay and Allen Carver of Meriden, Conn.; three sisters, Margaret Whitter of Winterport, Alice Plummer and Betty Wylie, both of Boothbay; two brothers, John Main of Ellsworth, and Frank Main of Boothbay Harbor; grandchildren, Dennis Carver of Medford, Mass., Michael Carver of Portland, Brian and Kevin Carver of Boothbay, Allen Carver Jr., Shannon Carver and Tirrena Carver, all of Meriden, Conn.; two great-grandchildren, Kain and Brianna Carver, both of Meriden, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Matthew McNutt will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168 Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10032-9982. Arrangements are under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay.
