Alta Fuller Hanlon

CAMDEN - Alta Fuller Hanlon, 93, died Sept. 18, 2005 at the Anderson Inn where she had resided for several months.

She was born in York on Sept. 21, 1902 and was the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Macker) Nevers. She married John F. Hanlon on Aug. 16, 1937 and lived in Mansfield, Mass., where she worked at Texas Instruments in Attleboro for many years. In 1968 they retired and moved to Camden where they lived on Mountain Street.

She was a homemaker who spent many hours in her kitchen cooking for family and friends in the event someone dropped in for a game of cards. She enjoyed her many vacations with her husband and family at Megunticook Lake. Her passion in life was fishing. She hooked the largest fish ever caught in Norton's Pond, which was publicized in the local newspapers. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens, tending to them until just last year. She was known locally for her exuberant personality.

She was predeceased by her husband John F. Hanlon on Dec. 20, 1972.

She is survived by her three children, Helen Snouffer and her husband Harlan of Columbus,Ohio, Carol Tannock and her husband James of Hope, and John Hanlon and his wife Judith of Mansfield, Mass.; two sisters, Audrey Giles and her husband Ross of Mountain Home, Ark., and Beryl Greene and her husband Arthur; a brother, Albert Hatch of Stow, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

Private Interment will be in Spring Brook cemetery in Mansfield, Mass.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.

Lucille Clarke Gill

HENDERSONVILLE, NC - Lucille Clarke Gill, 88, formerly of Camden, died Sept. 17, 2005 at Carolina Village Medical Center in Hendersonville, N.C.

She was born in Madison and was the daughter of Howard and Helen Clarke. Her first husband was John Lewis, a former professor at the University of Maine. They lived in Camden on Washington Street for many years. Mr. Lewis died in 1980.

In 1987, she married Gregory Gill who owned Crane Island on Megunticook Lake. In 1989, they moved to North Carolina. Mr. Gill died in 1991.

Mrs. Gill studied and taught piano all of her life. In Hendersonville, where she had lived since 1989, she attended the First Congregational Church and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Hendersonville Country Club.

She will be remembered for her kindness and beautiful smile.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Patti Conkwright of Indianapolis, Ind; two granddaughters, Catherine Ramirex of Houston, Texas and Kirstan Ashton of Indianapolis, Ind.; five great-grandchildren; and one cousin, Mary Foss of Madison.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Carolina Village Hall in Hendersonville. A graveside service and burial will be held Monday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial cemetery in Augusta.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.

Louise Pauline Housel notice

CAMDEN - Louise Pauline Housel, 89, of Camden, died Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center. A complete obituary will be published later.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden.

Rosa Maria Vazquez

SEARSPORT - Rosa Maria Vazquez, 93, of Searsport, passed peacefully Sept. 23, 2005. She was born Jan. 16, 1912, in Penuelas, Puerto Rico.

She left behind a legacy of love, music, poetry and laughter to her family and friends. Survivors include four sons, Antonio Maldonado, John Vazquez, Thomas Wise and Bill Hayes; four daughters, Sonia Vazquez, Maria Vazquez Wise, Chris Vazquez and Ester Maldonado; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in the Maldonado, Bowers, and Krygsman families.

Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosa's name to the Mount View Chamber Singers, Mount View High School, Knox Ridge Road, Thorndike, ME 04986.

Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.

Fred Waterman Blagden

WISCASSET - Fred Waterman Blagden, 94, of Wiscasset, died Sept. 22 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.

He was born April 12, 1911 in Coolin, N.D. and was the son of Fred Willard Blagden and Nellie Jones Blagden. His parents were natives of Wiscasset and returned there when he was a small child. He attended local schools, graduating from Wiscasset Academy in 1929.

On Feb. 28, 1942 he married Alberta A. Boudin.

A twice-wounded veteran of World War II, he served throughout Europe with the Cross of Lorraine Division until the final month of the European conflict, when he was seriously wounded in Germany. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army, he returned to employment at Bath Iron Works where he worked as an electrician until his retirement in 1973.

He was active in various local lodges and was a member of the Wiscasset Academy Alumni Association. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.

His wife of 53 years, Alberta B. Blagden, died in 1995.

He is survived by two sons, Donald F. Blagden and Robert L. Blagden, and two daughters-in-law, Susan Blagden and Marla Blagden, all of Wiscasset; two granddaughters, Tracy Blagden and Rachel Smith; a grandson, Robert Blagden Jr.; and a great-grandson and a nephew.

At Mr. Blagden's request, there will be no funeral service or flowers or other memorials.

Burial will be in Memorial Garden in Wiscasset.

Arrangements are with the Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service in Waldoboro.

Gerald C. 'Jerry' Wilkins

ROCKLAND - Gerald C. "Jerry" Wilkins, 63, died Sept. 24, 2005 at his home after an extended illness.

He was born in Cortland, N.Y. on Aug. 25, 1942 and was the son of Chase and Mary LaMay Wilkins. He was a graduate of Homer High School in Homer, N.Y.

On Oct. 10, 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served stateside and in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 30, 1966.

Returning to civilian life, he worked more than 10 years with his father at Wilkins Printing in Cortland, N.Y. He later worked as a telephone installer with TDI Company and during that time was sent to a Maine job location. An outdoorsman at heart, he fell in love with Maine.

After moving to Maine, he was employed with A.D. Sewall Construction in Rockland and Neil Harris Construction. During the winter months he worked at Creek Hill Service Station in Thomaston.

Most recently until his illness, Jerry was employed with School Administrative District 5 in custodial services at Rockland District High School. He particularly loved working at the school and enjoyed friendships with staff and students.

He loved camping in the North Maine Woods and working around his home. His wife said he was a hardworking man and if not camping, would rather be at home.

He was an avid hunter for many years, but came to a point in his life when he preferred to shoot wildlife with a camera.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rockland Memorial Post #2499 and the Warren Odd Fellows.

Other than his parents, he was predeceased by one stepson, Robert L. Nason Jr. in 2003.

He is survived by his wife Deborah J. Ranquist Wilkins of Rockland; one son, Robert Wilkins of Lake Stevens, Wash.; one daughter, Janice McMahon and her husband Dennis of Albertville, Minn.; six grandchildren, Brittney Wilkins of Marysville, Wash., Riley McMahon of Albertville, Minn., Miranda Nason of Waldoboro, Justyce Nason of Rockland, Brody McMahon of Albertville, Minn. and Chase Nason of Rockland; his mother-in-law Laura Ranquist of Rockland; his brother-in-law, Elbert Ranquist Jr. and his wife Annette of Rockland; his sister-in-law Christie Ranquist of Rockland; and his nieces and nephews, Eli Ranquist, Austin Ranquist, Joe Carballo, Storm Fogg, Logan Fogg and Janelle Fogg.

No services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care and Hospice, c/o Northeast Health, 22 White St., Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are with the Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.

Stephanie F. Walls

VINALHAVEN - Stephanie F. Walls, 86, died Sept. 16, 2005 at the Knox Center for Long-Term Care after a long illness.

She was born in Gardner, Mass. on May 5, 1919 and was the daughter of Stanley and Josephine Piascheik Duda.

Following her marriage to Newman Walls, she moved with her husband to Vinalhaven where the couple resided for more than 50 years. For several years Mrs. Walls was employed with Fox Island Seafood. Until declining health necessitated her hospitalization, she resided with her daughter in their family home.

In 1998 she entered the Camden Nursing Home. She was then discharged to the Camden Health Care Center and later to the Knox Center for Long-Term Care.

She was predeceased by her husband.

She is survived by her daughter Gladys Walls of Damariscotta; three sisters, Regina Pelli of Cranston, R.I., Catherine Girard of Sutton, Mass. and Viola Warren of Florida; and many nieces and nephews in several states.

Private Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in Whitinsville, Mass.

Arrangements are with the Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.

Richard Allen Peterman

BELFAST - Richard Allen Peterman, 50, of Belfast, passed away at home Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 4, 1955, in Bloomsburg, Penn.

Dick grew up in Millville, Penn., and graduated from Millville Area High School, Class of 1973. He received an associate's degree in accounting and business from the Williamsport Area Community College. Dick worked for Ames Department Store for 27 years, settling in Belfast 23 years ago, where he became a manager. He was active in the 4-H Club as a youth, and Boy Scout Troop 27 in Belfast. He recently joined the Order of the Arrow.

Dick enjoyed camping, canoeing, fishing, gardening, cooking and working around his property.

He is survived by his parents, Harvey and Mildred (Mordan) Peterman of Pennsylvania; his wife of 25 years, Debora, of Belfast; two children, Jeffrey and Benjamin; a brother, James Daniel Peterman of Bloomsburg, Penn., and his wife, Kerri; a sister, Linda Kay Rogers, of Orangeville, Penn., and her husband, Richard; nieces and nephews, Sawyer, Shayne, Tracy, Amy, Audrey, Allison, Christopher and Kelly; and his mother-in-law, Joyce Beaudion and her husband, Roland.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with Rev. David Abbott officiating. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to Waldo County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 407, Belfast, ME 04915.

Paul Joseph Hennessey

NORTHPORT - Paul Joseph Hennessey, 75, of Northport, passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at home. He was born in Boston on Dec. 11, 1929, the son of Albert and Anna Hennessey.

Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley Hennessey, of Northport, and a son, Bernard Hennessey, and his wife, Elena, of Waterbury, Conn.

Services were private under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.

Joan Arlene Pinkham

BOOTHBAY - Joan Arlene Pinkham, 55, died Sept. 25, 2005 at her home in Boothbay.

Joan was born in Boothbay Harbor on Dec. 5, 1950 and was the daughter of Donald and Dorothy Barter Hardwick.

She grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay Region High School. She then continued her education at Thomas College in Waterville.

On May 15, 1971 she married Roger Allen Pinkham and they made their home in Boothbay where they raised their daughter Jennifer.

Joan worked at the Boothbay Region High School as a bookkeeper and executive administrator to the principal.

In 1972 she joined the Mount Pisgah Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and later was a member of the Crescent Chapter #54 in East Boothbay. In both chapters she was many times the worthy matron and district deputy grand matron.

She traveled around the world and especially loved the White Mountains. She and her sister Sandra went to Monhegan Island, and although she had traveled worldwide, she found the most beauty here in Maine and peace and tranquility in her own back yard.

She and her friends liked to go shopping for flowers to put in their gardens. She was a thoughtful person who always could be found doing for others. Her grandchildren were her life and her cats Cinnamon and India were her companions and helped her through her grief after the loss of her husband.

She was predeceased by her husband Roger in 1997; and her mother Dorothy Barter in 2005.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Field and her husband John of Nashua, N.H.; her father Donald Hardwick of Boothbay Harbor; her grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Field of Nashua, N.H.; her sister, Sandra Behringer of Waynesboro, Va.; and her brothers, Dean Hardwick of Los Angeles, Calif. and Wayne Hardwick of Eagle Lake.

At Joan's request there will be no services.

Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 87 Elm St., Suite 203, Camden, ME 04843; Ronald McDonald House, 250 Bracket St., Portland, ME 04102; or American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate, 343 Gorham Road, S. Portland, ME 04106.
