Margaret Wright

HOPE - Margaret Wright, 84, died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2005 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Camden on Aug. 5, 1921 and was the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Hunter) Kitching.

She married Robert C. Wright Sr. on Dec. 24, 1941 and the two lived on the Barnestown Road in Hope all of their married life. She was a 1939 graduate of Camden High school. In earlier years she was involved with the 4H Club and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She and her late husband raised poultry and she sold eggs from the farm known as Maggie's Egg Shack. They worked together in the fields and were known for their blueberries. She was also at one time an apple packer at Hope Orchards.

She was one of the founding members of Hope's R.F.D. Club and was a member of the Hope Extension and Hope Historical Society. She was well known for her cooking and for knitting sweaters for all her family. She enjoyed going out for coffee in the mornings with her special friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert on Oct. 7, 2003; her brother Carl Kitching; and her sister Bernice Libby.

She is survived by three sons, Robert C. Wright Jr. and his fiancé Sharon of Hope, Ronald M. Wright and his wife Dottie of Wells, and Dennis I. Wright and his wife Sandy of Hope; one daughter, Terry Mitchell and her husband Clair of Appleton; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (two on the way); and her niece Pauline Ralph.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Hope Community Bible Church with Pastor Mark Stockwell officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hope Historical Society, c/o Faith Hart, 374 Camden Road, Hope, ME 04847.

Geraldine Brown Johnson

WALDOBORO - Geraldine Brown Johnson, 74, of Waldoboro, died Oct. 19, 2005 at St. Andrew's Hospital and Healthcare in Boothbay Harbor.

She was born March 22, 1931 in Randolph and was the daughter of the late George and Hazel Brown.

On March 18, 1950 she married Russell Francis Johnson whom she met at grammar school in 1940.

Geraldine spent her life as a homemaker enjoying her birds, cats, flowers and garden. She crocheted afghans and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing, camping with her family and spending time near Moxie Lake.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of more than 45 years.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas Ralph Johnson and his wife Meredith of New Harbor, Craig Douglas Johnson and his wife Donna of Augusta, and Mark Russell Johnson of Illinois; her daughter Wendy Lee Ross of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Amy Lee Bramhall and her husband Scott, Christopher Michael and Corey Eva Johnson, Lyn Renee Hall and her husband Micah, Neal Anthony Ross Jr., Montell Cortle Ross III, Jennifer Michaud, and Thomas Ware; and several great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a time of celebration to remember Geraldine's life on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at her home at 19 Depatsy 's Trailer Park on Friendship Road in Waldoboro.

Arrangements are with the Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service in Waldoboro.

Dorothy Sherman Masters

WALDOBORO - Dorothy Sherman Masters, 99, died peacefully on Oct. 22, 2005 at Fieldcrest Manor.

She was born at the family home in Round Pond on June 8, 1906 and was the third of nine children born to Harry O. and Eva M. (Sherman) Masters. She attended school in Round Pond and later attended Bristol High School.

Dorothy worked for many years at the Christmas Cove Inn in South Bristol, Round Top Farms and the Canning Factory in Bremen. Among her co-workers she was known to be friendly and always fun to work with and to have a great sense of humor. In her later years, she was a very loving caretaker of her mother and aunt. Her family and friends remember that she was always eager to tell stories of her earlier life and of others in the area. For more than 10 years she lived in the Sproul Block in Waldoboro. Her good friend Lottie Richards has many fond memories of the good times they spent together, especially going for long rides and having pie and coffee at Moody's Diner.

Dorothy is survived by her brother Harry Milton "Mit" Masters of Newcastle; her sisters-in-law, Eunice of Madison, Ala. and Edith Masters of Round Pond; her nephews, Henry Colby and his wife Anita of Pierrrepoint Manor, N.Y., William Masters and his wife Marcia of Conway, N.H., Richard Masters and his wife Martha of Round Pond, George Masters Jr and his wife Linda of Round Pond, Edward Masters and his wife Niki of Madison, Ala., and Bruce Masters and his wife Nancy of Bridgeton, N.J.; two nieces, Lillian Masters of Madison, Ala. and Nancy Frost of Ashville, N.C.; and several cousins and great-nephews and great-nieces.

Friends are invited to join the family for a service to honor Dorothy on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Strong Funeral Home Chapel at 612 Main St. in Damariscotta. She will be laid to rest at the family lot at Maple Grove cemetery in Round Pond.

Arrangements are with the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Damariscotta.

Paul A. Vogt Jr.

HILLSBORO, ORE. - Paul A. Vogt Jr., 49, beloved son of Paul A. and Rosemary E. Vogt and brother of Nancy V. Ingraham of Rockport, died recently of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at his home in Hillsboro, Ore.

After graduating from Stoneham High School in Stoneham, Mass., he served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a graduate of North Adams State College, now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where he spent his junior year in an overseas study program at Trent Polytechnic University in Nottingham, England. While there, he traveled through Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean countries. During graduation planning, he was nominated by the North Adams College Philosophy Department to be the speaker at the 1981 Honors Dinner.

He traveled to the Peoples Republic of China, where he taught English as a foreign language to students at Tianjin University.

He served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Srisaket, Thailand, where he was a teacher and agricultural assistant. He devised a new curriculum, established an English room with 500 books, and procured funds through grant writing for agricultural projects and a handicraft fabrication center.

Paul graduated from George Fox College in Newberg, Ore. with a master of arts in teaching and taught in local elementary schools.

His family said it was very easy to love Paul and he will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Christine Larch Vogt and their dear children, Kira, 8, and Kagan, 10.

A memorial service will be held in Hillsboro, Ore. at a later date.

R. Douglas Hodson

CAMDEN - R. Douglas Hodson, 86, died Oct. 24, 2005 at Windward Gardens in Camden.

He was born in Reading, Mass. on April 11, 1919 and was the son of Sydney M. and Alice (DeMerrit) Hodson. He was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School.

On April 25, 1942 he married Eleonor Disseil.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asian Theater. In 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Hodson moved to Camden. Mr. Hodson was employed as a heating contractor for 25 years at L.O. Gross & Son in Camden. He was very devoted to his dog Brandy.

He was predeceased by his daughter Rosemary Hodson on June 7, 1999.

He is survived by his wife Eleonor Hodson of Camden; and one son, D. Bradlee Hodson of Isle of Palms, S.C. and Camden.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. at Seaview cemetery on Russell Avenue in Rockport with the Rev. Kevin Pleas officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856.

Arrangements are with the Laite Funeral Home at 9 Mountain St. in Camden.

William Harry Judson

CUSHING - William Harry Judson, 67, of Cushing died Oct. 22, 2005 at the Togus Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta, having succumbed to cancer.

He was born Feb. 2, 1938 and was the son of the late Laurence Harder and Ada Isabella (Edwards) Judson. A Washington, D.C. native, Bill, as he was known to his family and friends, was raised in Long Branch, N.J., graduated from Long Branch High School, and earned his bachelor's degree in history from Rutgers University and his masters of public administration from Golden Gate University.

On Dec. 30, 1965 he married the former Theresa Cloyd of Canadian, Texas. Bill served as a line officer in the U.S. Navy in various capacities aboard seven U.S. Navy ships and did staff duty with the Iceland Defense Force during his 20 years of active duty. After he retired from the Navy, he and his family moved to Maine where he was involved in municipal management for 11 years in the towns of Bethel, Lincoln and Thomaston and served as the Thomaston town manager. He retired from his second career and he and his wife enjoyed life in Maine.

He is survived by his wife of more than 31 years, Theresa C. Judson of Cushing; his son, Major William L. Judson and his wife the former Stacey Dunaway of Litchfield, N.H. and their twin sons Braden and Liam; his daughter, Ada McDowell and her husband Eric of Hudson, N.H. and their sons Joshua and Connor; his sister Janet Plona of Cushing; and his stepsister Anderson Jane Reynolds of Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be held celebrated Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Friendship. The Rev. Elizabeth Bilodeau will officiate. Interment will be Monday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. in Woodbine cemetery in Oceanport, N.J.

Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Affairs Office, Togus VA Medical Center, 1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330; Department of Maine Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 3415, Augusta, ME 04330; or American Cancer Society, Maine Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.

Arrangements are with the Coast of Maine Cremation and Funeral Service in Waldoboro.

Ona Hilton Moody

NORTH NOBLEBORO - Ona H. Moody, 70, of North Nobleboro died Oct. 25, 2005 at her home on East Pond Road after a lengthy struggle with carcinoid and pancreatic cancer. Her family was at her bedside.

She was born in Waldoboro on Feb. 10, 1935 and was the daughter of Henry M. and Harriet M. Dalton Hilton. She attended Waldoboro schools and graduated from A.D. Gray High School in 1952.

She married Harold E. Moody on Apri1 18, 1953 and the couple moved to North Nobleboro where they raised their family.

She was an active member of the North Nobleboro Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and Baptist Youth Fellowship and served as church organist. She was most recently the assistant organist, a member of the choir and a member of the board of trustees.

She was also actively involved in the North Nobleboro Community Association and its annual North Nobleboro Day.

She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Harriet Hilton of Waldoboro and North Nobleboro; and her brother George C. Hilton of Nobleboro.

She is survived by her husband Harold E. Moody; a daughter, Andrea M. Newbert and her husband Gary; and two sons, Thomas H. Moody and Timothy H. Moody, all of North Nobleboro; her daughter-in-law Tammy L. Moody of Waldoboro; her sisters-in-law, Cynthia W. Hilton and Norma M. Dion of Nobleboro; five grandchildren, Jessica L. Newbert, Megan S. Newbert , Jordan T. Newbert and Stewart H. Moody of Nobleboro and Khristy L. Moody of Waldoboro; and two nieces, one nephew and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the North Nobleboro Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bette Bond and the Rev. Warner A. Howard officiating.

A private burial will be held at the Joshua Moody cemetery at the old Moody Homestead in North Nobleboro at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henry M. Hilton Missionary and Pastoral Scholarship Fund, c/o Andrea M. Newbert, 935 East Pond Road, Nobleboro, ME 04555.

Arrangements are with the members of the North Nobleboro Baptist Church and the Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro.

Roger W. Bishop

UNITY - Roger W. Bishop, 68, of Unity, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville, from a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Troy on March 24, 1937, to Norman and Lillian (Pease) Bishop.

He was an auto body technician most of his life. He was previously employed by Tozier's Spray Service in Unity, and also held many other jobs such as a herdsman in Rhode Island and as a dairy deliveryman.

Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma, of Unity; one son, Michael Bishop of Troy; one daughter, Patty Bishop, and her companion, Ralph Pagliaroli, of Unity; a very special granddaughter, Brandi Reynolds, and her companion, Rick Decker, of Fairfield; a special god-daughter, Pricilla Pagliaroli, of Unity; four brothers, Ralph Bishop and his wife, Marie, of Troy, Norman Bishop Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Troy, Earl Bishop and his wife, Susan, of Athens, Eugene Bishop and his wife, Sylvia, of Windsor; one sister, Sadie Philbrick, and her husband, Peter, of Brooks; a very special brother-in-law, Edward Sylvester, of Unity; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank all the hard-working people at Mount St. Joseph and Dr. Charles Kriegel for taking such good care of Roger.

There will be no funeral services per Roger's wishes. Arrangements are being handled by Direct Cremation of Maine.

Bernard E. Rackliff

SPRUCE HEAD - Bernard E. Rackliff, 97, a lifelong resident of Spruce Head, died March 5, 2006 at the Knox Center for Long-Term Care in Rockland.

He was born in South Thomaston on Aug. 23, 1908 and was the son of Robert Eugene and Lillian F. Warren Rackliff. He attended local schools.

On March 25, 1934 he married Dorothy Helen Joyce. The couple made their home in Spruce Head all their married lives. Mrs. Rackliff died on Oct. 12, 1982.

He enjoyed a lifelong career lobstering on Wheelers Bay.

He was a member of the Tenants Harbor Lodge of Masons and for more than 60 years was a member of Wileys Corner Grange.

He loved to hunt, work in his workshop and study his family's genealogy.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his son Barry in 1939 and sister Evelyn Archer in 2003.

He is survived by one son, Ronald E. Rackliff and his wife Eileen of Spruce Head; two brothers, Frank Rackliff and Alvin Rackliff of Spruce Head; two grandchildren, Tamela Parini and her husband Glenn of Warren, and Craig Rackliff and his wife Adreth of Spruce Head; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Regan, Logan and Alexandra; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service at Ocean View cemetery in South Thomaston will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. George Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860.

Arrangements are with the Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
