Angela Huston

DURHAM, N.H. - Angela (LaVopa) Huston of Durham, N.H. died in Los Gatos, Calif., Dec. 27. 2003. She graduated from Kennebunk High School as salutatorian in 1972, earned bachelor's degrees in mathematics and history in 1976 from Colby College, and received a masters in public administration from UNH in 1988. She taught math and science at high school and community college, and had been a contracting officer at Pease AFB. She was also a certified well operator.

She is survived by her two children, Laura and Eric Huston; two sisters, Carol Creasey, Watsonville, Calif. and Filomena Knowles, Kittery; and one brother, Vito LaVopa, New City, N.Y.

Her interests included traveling, cooking, teaching, building, driving and most importantly loving her family, especially her children.

A memorial fund is set up for her minor children at Bayview Bank, 783 Rio Del Mar Blvd., Aptos, CA 95003 c/o Shirley Garner, branch manager.

Alfred Jeffers, 78

CONCORD, N.H. - Alfred Everett Jeffers, 78, died Jan. 3, 2003 at Concord Hospital.

He was born in Laconia, N.H., the son of Percy and Myrtle (Dow) Jeffers. He was a 1943 graduate of Laconia High School where he played football, basketball and baseball.

He was a gunner's mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He worked at the Laconia Shoe Factory until moving to California in 1953. He then worked for Met Life Insurance for several years and for Prudential Insurance Co., for several years, retiring in 1985.

An avid golfer, he was a member of several country clubs, including the Claremont Country Club and the Carter Country Club in Lebanon. He sang in minstrel shows in Laconia.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Lowell) Jeffers of Concord; two daughters, Barbara Weeks of Concord and Linda Bagley of Lebanon, N.H.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces.

He was predeceased by three half brothers and three half sisters.

Memorial services were held Sunday at the Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, N.H. Rev. J. Jermain Bodine, pastor of the United Church of Warner, officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Irene Jewell, 91

DOVER, N.H. - Irene H. Jewell, 91, of Seneca Street, formerly of Chesley Street, Dover and a summer resident of Wells Beach, died Jan. 2, 2003 at her home following an extended period of failing health.

She was born in Dover, N.H., Nov. 10, 1911, the daughter of Fred J. and Harriet C. (St. John) Turner. She was a 1929 graduate of Dover High School, earned her LPN degree through the Wentworth School of Nursing. She worked at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for several years then went to work at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, retiring from there.

She was the widow of Fred E. Jewell who died in September of 1969.

She operated the Monarch Diner in Dover.

She spent her summers in Wells Beach since 1954 at her summer home, which she dearly loved. While in Wells Beach, she was a member of the church group which met weekly to recite the Rosary. She was the past president of the Emblem Club in the 1940s.

Members of the family include her son and his wife Fred A. and Barbara Jewell of Dover; six grandchildren, Denise Duffy, Darlene Stillwagon, Deborah Blakeslee, Donna Roux, Sarah Leonard and Frederick Jewell; eight great-grandchildren, Brylye Duffy, Cealleigh Bucklin, Audra McQuade, Joshua Stillwagon, Luke Stillwagon, Danna Roux and Mikah Roux; and two great-great-grandchildren, Avery Joensuu and Emma R. Leonard.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Dover, with Rev. Fritz Cerullo, OSA pastor as celebrant.

Burial was in St. Mary New Cemetery, Dover.

Adalie Munroe, 89

WELLS - Adalie Munroe, 89, a longtime resident of Wells died the evening of Feb. 11, 2003 unexpectedly at her home.

She was born in Byron, Maine Oct. 11, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Iva (Robinson) Jalbert. She was educated in Rumford schools.

She was married to Elwin Halacy and raised four children in the Rumford area. After the death of her husband in 1959, she relocated to the Portland area where she was employed as manager of the coffee /gift shop at the Maine Medical Center in Portland for more than 27 years.

In 1971 she married George Munroe of Cape Elizabeth who predeceased her in 1982.

She was a very caring and loving lady who enjoyed her home, family and friends. During her retirement years, she spent many hours volunteering at the Senior Center in Kennebunk Lower Village.

She is survived by her children, Joyce Balzano and husband Guido of Hingham, Mass., Dorothy Chamberlain and husband Armand of Westbrook, Clifton Halacy and wife Marjory of Scarborough, and Sally Gilpatric and husband William of Kennebunk. She had three grandchildren, Shane Halacy of Portland, Susan Gilpatric of Falmouth and Jason Gilpatric of Kennebunk

A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced later in the spring.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Senior Center at Lower Village, 175 Port Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043 or to the Wells Congregational Church, Route 1 North, Wells, Maine 04090 in Mrs. Munroe's memory.

Phyllis Arrowsmith

KENNEBUNK - The Fountain, Welch, Arrowsmith Clan mourn Phyllis J. Arrowsmith, born March 12, 1934 as Phyllis Janet Fountain, who passed on at 1:50 a.m. Mountain Standard Time on Feb. 8, 2003 and will continue on for the next years in the arms of the Lord and with those who will follow her, especially her loving husband Mark Arrowsmith of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons, Norris (Debra) Welch of Texas,

Jonathan (Debby) Welch of Maine, and Lincoln (Joyce) Welch of Washington State; four daughters, Katrina Reines of Virginia, Delores Decoto of Washington State, Ingrid (Ronnie) Towne

of Maine and Darla (Steve) Hill of Montana; 12 of her

13 grandchildren and one great grandchild; four sisters, Myrtle Cousens of Maine, Betty Sepulvado of Louisiana, Anita (Richard) Michaud of Maine, and Beverly Emerson of Maine; and one brother, Stephen (Julie) Emerson of Maine, and their families.

Mum, born and raised in Maine, attended

Kennebunk High School and obtained degrees from the University of Maine. She moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1980.

This is where she met her husband Mark and they were married Sept. 21, 1985. Throughout her time here, always with a bountiful intellect and bounding energy, Mum pursued studies in many subjects diverse as all of us that ranged from Astrology to Zen and everything in between.

She continues to teach us lots and we love you always and forever, Mum.

The family extends special thanks to her caring friends and supporters and to Hospice of the Valley (Phoenix), an organization made up of very special people with wonderful gifts.

A service and gathering will be held July 12, 2003 in Kennebunk, to bring people together in celebration of her life. Particulars will be announced at a later date.

In remembrance of our Wife, Mumma, Mum, Grandma, Family, Friend, Acquaintance please let us all remember to extend kindness and gratitude as we journey along the way.

Bruce Myers, 47

NORWAY - Bruce L. Myers, 47, of Norway, and formerly of North Berwick and Wells died Feb. 6, 2003 at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after a bold struggle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 25, 1955 in York Harbor, the eldest of seven children born to Norman and Flora Myers.

He was a welder at Portsmouth Shipyard for 17 years, then worked at L.R. Higgins in Scarborough until he became ill. He was a member of the Waterford Fish and Game Club. Family members say he loved nature and animals. As an outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing, his passions included his motorcycle trips to Mount Washington, the Toy Runs, his music, spending time with his family and his beloved dogs, Danny Boy will miss him.

He was a free-spirited, life loving, gentle man. Many will remember him as the Phantom Hobo, up here on the Hobo Trail.

Survivors include fiancˇe, Debbie L. Howard; one daughter, Melanie D. Howard; one stepdaughter, Theresa M. Howard; two granddaughters, Kaylee E. and Emily R. Leclair; from a previous marriage a stepdaughter, Rachel K. (Mrs. John) Morton; two stepgrandsons, Kyle J. and Brandon S.; his parents Norman L. and Flora M. Myers of Wells; four brothers, Lewie Myers Jr. of Wells, Mark A. Myers of Wells, George W. Myers of Wells and Wayne R. Myers of Wells; two sisters, Tammy L. (Mrs. Peter) Meads of Wells, Sheena M. (Mrs. James) Perkins of Biddeford; many nieces, nephews and other family members.

A memorial service was given by Pastor John W. Grant on Feb. 8 in the Church of the Nazarene on Route 1 in Wells.

Should friends or family desire, memorial may be made to the charities of one's choice in Bruce Myers' name.

Marie Healey, 89

WELLS - Marie M. Healey, 89, a resident of Huntington Common, Kennebunk, formerly of Wells, died Feb. 16, 2003 at the York Hospital in York after a brief illness.

She was born in College Point, N.Y. on July 11, 1913, a daughter of Herman and Marie (Motz) Simon.

She graduated from Flushing High School, Flushing, N.Y. and also graduated from Jamaica Teacher College in Jamaica, N.Y.

She was a public school teacher with New York City for four years.

She was employed by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield as office worker in New York City for 35 years. She moved to Wells, where she was a member of the Wells Grange, attended First Congregational Church of Wells, Wells-Ogunquit Open Door Service and A.A.R.P.

She was predeceased by her husband John Healey.

She is survived by several cousins.

A funeral was held Wednesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells with the Rev. Stephen Hastings officiating. Interment was in Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, N.Y.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice in Mrs. Healey's memory.

Dr. Pierre Lambert

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Dr. Pierre D. Lambert, of Needham, Mass. and Ogunquit, Maine, died Feb. 14, 2003 after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 6, 1921 in Brunswick, son of Dr. Henri and Eveline (DeRome) Lambert.

Beloved husband of 58 years to Elizabeth Lambert, beloved father of Susan Lambert of Cranston, R.I., Paul Lambert of South Hadley, Mass. and Jacqueline Quinton of Moody; brother of the Very Rev. Jacques Lambert, S.M. (deceased) and Clarice Foley of South Harpswell.

He was a veteran of World War II and served at the American Embassy in liberated Paris. He was a Professor Emeritus of Boston College, where he taught for 40 years in the School of Education. He received his doctorate at the University of Iowa and his undergraduate degrees from Boston College.

An intense family man, he will be missed by his five grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Quinton, Benjamin and Peter Lambert, Lucas Henry; sons-in-law, David Henry and Noel Quinton; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lambert. His life centered on his family, church, Boston College, books, music, and most importantly, teaching. He was a quiet, gentle man.

There was a memorial Mass at St. Joseph's Church in Needham, Mass., on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy in his memory.

Eleanor Metcalf, 83

WELLS - Eleanor Metcalf, 83, of Post Road, passed away quietly at home Feb. 16, 2003 after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Tatnic, June 13, 1919, a daughter of Alice (Winn) Allen. She graduated from North Berwick High School in 1937 and graduated nurses training from Boston City Hospital. She worked as an RN at Webber Hospital in Biddeford for many years and later as a private duty nurse.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Paul Metcalf, in 1997. They were residents of Wells for 52 years. Before he passed away, they enjoyed traveling to California and Europe, camping trips to the White Mountains and elsewhere with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonita Scott of Wells, Diane Metcalf of Lyman; one son, Douglas of Pembroke, Mass.; one half-sister, Yvonne Gibbons of North Berwick; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at the Congregational Church of Wells at 1 p.m. Spring Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick.

Family flowers only. Friends who wish may contribute to the Hospice of VNS, 15 Industrial Park Rd., Saco, ME 04072-9981.

Arrangements are by the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.

Irene Brown, 79

WELLS - Irene L. Brown, 79, a resident of Wells Highlands, Wells, died Feb. 13, 2003, at her home after an extended illness.

She was born in Wells Beach on Oct. 7, 1923, a daughter of William Pete and Rose Estelle (Schuren) Sevigney. She attended Wells, Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H. schools.

She spent many years as a homemaker for her family. She loved to prepare for a holiday or a birthday with her wonderful homemade meals. She always made it special for her family and she loved to do it. She will always be remembered as a very special Mom, Wife and Grandmother.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wells, VFW Post of Wells and also worked for years with the FISH program. She not only was a member of the Wells-Ogunquit Historical Society, but worked there for five years and she also was a Girl Scout leader many years.

She loved to dance - square dancing, line dancing and clogging. She was a member of the Jo Bridges line-dancing group.

She was predeceased by her brothers William H. and Gordon K. Sevigney.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years on Feb. 15, 2003, Carl E. Brown Sr. of Wells; one son, Carl E. Brown Jr. and his wife Crystal of Wells; one granddaughter, Debra Brown and her husband Wayne; and one great-grandson, Jeffery.

Memorial Services were held Monday at the First Congregational Church of Wells, Wells, with the Rev. Herbert Henry officiating.

Spring burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
