Age 26, died suddenly Tuesday, May 25, 1999. He was born September 17, 1972 in Finley, OH the son of Richard H. and Cathy (Schlueter) Foerster II. Ricky graduated from Saline High School in 1991 and from EMU in 1995, and he was also a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church of Saline. Survivors include his parents, Cathy and Richard Foerster II; three sisters, Debbie, Bernadette (Bunny) and Michelle Foerster; one nephew, Devin; his paternal grandmother, Jeannette Foerster; his aunt, Annette Weil; two cousins, Robert and Jimmy Weil and many friends. There will be a visitation for family and close friends, 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 28, at the Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at St.Andrews Catholic Church of Saline, with Rev. Fr. Jay Kersten, Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church with burial following at Lodi Township cemetery.

Suits, Adelaide Boehm, East Lansing, MI

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 29, 11 a.m., at the Unitarian Universalist-Church, 855 Grove Street, East Lansing, Rev. Barbara Edgecomb officiating. The family is served by Gorsline-Runciman Company, East Chapel, East Lansing.

Hamberg, Harriet, Milan, MI

Age 72, died suddenly in Holland, MI., on May 11, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 47 years. J. Collin Hamberg, and by their five children: Jeanne and Greg Slenk with children Katie and Lee of Holland. Terri and Rick Riemenschneider of Milan, Ruth Hamberg of Orlando, John and Mary Hamberg with children Jacob and Lauren, and Julie and Shawn Hamberg Hirabayashi of New York City. Harriet was born in Phillip, S.D. on June 11, 1926. She was the daughter of Roy and Hazel Herman, deceased. Surviving Harriet on her side of the family are her three sisters and a brother: Angela and Fred Flory, Ruth and Duane Buchtel, Ellen Gregg, Keith and Anne Herrman. All live in OR and WA. As a child, Harriet and her family left their ranch in SD and homesteaded a dairy farm near Nyssa, OR. She graduated for the Nyssa School system and Oregon State University. She then took her internship to become a dietician at the University of Michigan. She was a vital person. Among her many interests were genealogy, photography, quilting, and travel. Throughout her married life she put her family first. She and her husband consider their children as their greatest accomplishment and their primary pride. She provided her family with a lifetime of wonderful memories and enjoyed family time at Port Sheldon above all other. There will be no funeral. We ask for your thoughts and prayers. Neither flowers nor contributions are sought. If compelled, please send contributions to the Milan Historical Society (Milan, MI) or the the American Heart Association.

Copeland, William Edgar, Pinckney, MI

Age 72, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at his home. He was born June 22, 1926 in Detroit, MI, the son of Lester W. and Katherine (Ceranski) Copeland. He grew up in Chicago, IL, served in the Army during WWII, and earned his Bachelor's degree in Music at The American Conservatory in Chicago. He moved to Vermont in 1957 and to New York in 1964 and taught in the public schools of both places. He came to Michigan in 1967 and lived at his home in Pinckney since 1971. He earned his Master's degree at the University of Vermont and taught music in the Ann Arbor schools from 1972 until his retirement in 1988. He directed many musical theatre productions throughout his career, and was always a supporter of local theatre. He is survived by his mother Katherine; his wife, Carolyn Copeland of Pinckney, MI; his two daughters, Leslie Kay Haskins of Parkville, MO, and Diana Bosworth of Simi Valley, CA, and a son, Robert Copeland of Venice, CA. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at Shelters Funeral Home on Mill Street in Pinckney at 3:00. Contributions in his memory can be made to Ann Arbor Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Hodge, Ferris S., Formerly of Westland, MI

Age 87, passed away May 26, 1999 at Northfield Place. He was born August 8, 1911 in New York, NY. Services for Mr. Hodge will be held on Saturday, May 29, 1999 at 11 a.m. at MUEHLIG CHAPEL. Friends may call today from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.

Levleit, Melinda Clara, Saline, MI

Age 93, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at the Jefferson Manor located in Louisville, KY. She was born May 10, 1906 in Saline, MI, the daughter of Frederick and Sophie (Hertler) Niethammer. She had been a Saline resident for over 90 years. On March 21, 1941 she married Daniel D. Levleit and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1955. Mrs. Levleit was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saline and the church's Mary Martha Guild, a life member of the Saline American Post #322 Women's Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Saline Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She was a foster parent for 14 children through the Michigan Children's Aid Society for 13 years and then began a daycare center caring for over 130 children until her retirement. She was known as Grandma or Mrs. Love to the children in her care. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne (Laurence) Carr of Louisville, KY; one stepdaughter, Joanne (Robert) Hinsh of FL; two stepsons; James (Bonnie) Levleit of Saline and Daniel (Jerri) Levleit of Stockbridge. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Wacker; three brothers, Clarence (Mable) Niethammer, Raymond (Wilma) Niethammer of Saline, Frederick Niethammer of PA; several nieces and nephews and devoted foster children, Jackie (Pam) Land of Clinton, MI. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Maurice Levleit and his wife Dorothy and Corporal David Levleit during the Korean War; four brothers Rudolph of Saline, Erwin of Ann Arbor, Oscar of Dearborn and Ernest of Ann Arbor; and one sister, Caroline Simkins of Royal Oak, MI. Funeral services will be held on Sunday May 30, 1999 at 3 p.m. from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saline with Rev. William Natsis and Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will take place in the Oakwood cemetery, Saline. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Lyon Lutheran Home or the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Envelopes will be available at the Robison - Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline where friends may begin calling on Saturday between the hours of 6-9 p.m. and from the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m.

Erickson, Lorraine, ElCajon, CA

Age 81, passed away Friday, May 14,1999. Born April 7, 1918 in Chicago, IL, the wife of the late LaVerne Erickson, and daughter of late Pearl Haines. A long time resident of Ann Arbor, she was employed at Argus Cameras, and was an active member of the Ann Arbor Moose Lodge. Lorraine was laid to rest May 18, 1999 at Cypress View Mausolem in National City. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Barbara) Danner of Whitmore Lake, MI, Ronald (Jill) Danner of Spledora, TX; daughters, Mary Ann Danner of Jamestown, CA, Diane (Will) Windall of San Diego, CA, Jeanette (Mike) Sweet of Chelsea, MI, Rosalie (Walter) Hasenfus of Booth Bay Harbor, ME; along with 23 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Rogers, Raymond Daniel, Republic, MI

Age 76, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at his home in Republic. He was born January 2, 1923 in Omer, MI to Mary E. Gearns and Raymond G. Rogers. Rogers grew up in Plymouth and left home at age 14 to travel the country. He lived in Alaska and California before joining the Marines in 1941 when World War II broke out, he was 17 years old. As part of the 28th Marines, 5th Division, Rogers, a corporal, fought at Iwo Jima. He was a decorated war hero. Rogers received the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism while serving as leader of the Fire Team of Company F, 2nd Battalion, at Iwo Jima. He also received the Silver Star for extreme bravery and Purple Heart for wounds he received as result of enemy action in the Asiatic-Pacific Area on February 23, 1945. Rogers served his country February 16, 1942 to February 14, 1944, and September 19, 1944 to November 9, 1945. After he was discharged in 1945, Rogers settled in California, where he started a family. He married wife Deloris and they had two daughters, Vicki and Shari. Rogers later divorced and moved back to Michigan, where he married second wife Nancy in Ann Arbor. They had two daughters,Michelle and Megan. Rogers graduated from the Detroit Engineering Institute and worked as a draftsman. In his early years, Rogers was a police officer in Plymouth. Rogers is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Janet Newman; and daughter Vicki. Survivors include his daughters,Michelle Rogers of Chelsea, Megan Rogers of Ypsilanti and Shari Young of California; two grandsons; his half brother, Jim Powers of Florida; and his half sister, Ilene Herriman of Plymouth. Rogers was cremated.No funeral service is planned.

Bickham, Donald, Palm Desert, CA

Formerly of Saline
passed away Thursday, May 27, 1999 at home after a long illness. He was born May 16, 1933 to the parents of Max and Anna Bickham. He was married to Deena on December 5, 1964. Donald was a retired engineer from the Ford Motor Company. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Deena; sister, Dorothy (Jim) Gooding of Tipton; brother, Bill (Arlene) Bickham of Jackson; children, Ron (Dixie) Marshall of CA; Rick (Connie) Marshall of MI, Phyllis Agner of CA; Brenda Bickham (Joe) Barenscheer of MI; Kerry Marshall of CA; Kevin (Monica) Marshall of CA; and Donald Bickham of MI; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life will be at Tri-County Sportsman Club Wednesday, June 2, 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Arbor Hospice or Brain Tumor Research fund at University of Michigan.

Kaelin, Joseph Jim, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 83, died Sunday, May 23, 1999. Survivors include his wife Nancy; son Craig (Sharon) Kaelin and daughter, Karen Powell; two grandchildren, Kerri Kaelin and Erin Powell. Memorial Mass 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi of Ann Arbor with visitation from 9:30 until the time of service.

Conn, Bette A. (Boop), Ann Arbor, MI

Passed peacefully from this earth May 26, 1999. Born in Ann Arbor on February 9, 1924, she was a life long resident of Ann Arbor. Bette was the daughter of George and Ruth Coe. On February 16, 1946 she was married in Ann Arbor to Newton E. Conn. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Bette was a mother to Thomas, James, and Dennis; mother-in-law to Paulette; grandmother to Ethan and Jordan. She would also mother to any child or teenager who needed or wanted to be mothered, this included many of her son's and grandchildren's friends. Bette lived simply but considered herself to have many riches, for she had the love of her family, and the love and admiration of her many true friends. She will be greatly missed for her humor, the joy she had in giving, the love, compassion and understanding she had for all living things, and her tremendous spirit. Donations may be made to Hospice of Washtenaw, 806 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor 48108, or your favorite charity. Bette would like the Hospice staff to know how much she appreciated your visits and help and enjoyed meeting everyone of you. Bette requested no funeral.Instead she preferred that we celebrate her life and reflect on memories, please join her family for a memorial on Sunday, June 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Jim and Paulette. Friends may call for information. Cremation has taken placed.

Overbey, Margaret G., Ann Arbor, MI

Margaret Geleatha Overbey, age 83, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 26, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness. Geleatha as she was fondly known was born June 30, 1915 to Daniel Butler and Margaret Butler in Connersville, Indiana. She and her husband, James moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1940. Geleatha was an active and dedicated member of the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor for more than 60 years. She loved the church and she loved the youth of the church. She was a very talented person and served Second Baptist church in many capacities. She was the director of the BTU (Baptist Training Union), an assistant church pianist, and organist, she headed the Junior Missionary Society, Directed the Senior Morning Choir, was the first pianist for the Children's Choir. She served on the supervisory committee of the church credit union, and eventually took over as Treasurer-Manager where she served for more than 20 years. As part of her outreach to young people, she served as a pianist, choir director, and bible teacher at the Maxie Boys Training School. Geleatha was a retired secretary of the Superintendent of the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. She also worked many years as the first African American secretary of the Friends of the Court in Washtenaw County. Among her many hobbies and interests, she was a gifted artist and seamstress. She could make anything, and she loved painting, traveling, and taking care of her pet boxers. Her husband of more than 50 years, James and an infant son preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, a Sister Lillian Rodgers (Warren); two brothers, Dan Butler of Detroit, Michigan, and Ernest Butler (Mary) of Connersville, Indiana; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. The funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor. The family will receive friends Monday evening, May 31, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, and Tuesday, June 1, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor. Burial will follow at the United Memorial Gardens in Plymouth, Michigan. Reverend E. L. Green, Pastor of the Second Baptist Church will officiate.

Landrum, Charles, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 42, died May 28, 1999 at home. Born November 20, 1956 in Parma, OH. Mrs. Miles has been a resident of Sherman Oaks since 1989. Patricia graduated from Lasher High School in 1974. She was the owner of Patricia Miles, a Clothing Store on Ventura Blvd., formerly on the Boardwalk in West Bloomfield and Ann Arbor. Patricia is survived by her mother, Joyce M. (nee Gravette) Miles, West Bloomfield, MI; one son, Miles Towner Arnold; eight Brothers, Samuel L. (Patty) Miles, Rochester Hills, MI, Dean L. (Kathy) Miles, Columbus, OH, James L. (Catherine) Miles, Rochester Hills, MI, Donald L. Miles, West Bloomfield, MI, Robert L. (Myra) Miles, Atlanta, GA, Dr. David L. Miles, Farmington Hills, MI, Christopher L. (Debbie) Miles, Farmington Hills, MI, and Doug Lee Miles, Farmington Hills, MI; one sister, Tammy L. Miles, West Bloomfield, MI; one sister-in-law, Jackie Miles, Lake Orion, MI; four uncles, Dennis, Jack, Thomas & Jim Gravette; one aunt, Janice; and former husband, Fred Arnold. Visitation Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 1999 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with a special service In-state at 9:30AM at the church, with the Rev. Paul Chateau officiating. Burial will be at the Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Southfield, MI. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Home.
