Thalner, Robert, Jackson, MI

Robert Rhinehart Thalner, a long time resident of Ann Arbor, died in the early morning hours of Wednesday December 15th, 1999 at his home in Jackson, MI. Born in 1918 in Ironwood MI, Bob grew up in Flint and attended Flint Central High School. He married Marie Wascher in 1941 while attending the University of Michigan for his Electrical Engineering degree. After graduation, Bob and Marie moved to New York and had three children, while Bob worked on his career at RCA and then as Chief Engineer for Sylvania. After moving back to Ann Arbor in 1965, Bob founded Thalner Electronic Laboratories and grew the business into a successful enterprise. He was a past master of the Masons, active member of Kiwanis and an avid U of M fan. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, he was always ready with a joke to tell, or a quick quip. He enjoyed spending time at his 'home away from home' at Higgins Lake, as well as boating, skiing, and meeting new people. Bob is survived by his wife Marie; two daughters, Virginia Spencer of Romeo and Deborah Thalner of Marshall; a son, Thomas Thalner of Loveland OH; his sister, Jean Craig of Grand Blanc. Bob also leaves five grandchildren and three half-great-grandchildren in the care of those left on earth. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 1999 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MUEHLIG CHAPEL in Ann Arbor. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made to American Heart Assoc., American Lung Assoc., or to another charity.

Weishuhn, Beulah, Van Buren Twp., MI

Age 86, died Wednesday, December 15, 1999. Mrs. Weishuhn had been a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include loving companion, Larry Breland; her three sons, Jim (Nancy) Weishuhn, Lester (Clara) Weishuhn and Mason Weishuhn; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Schemel; an aunt, Golda Stauter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Weishuhn; two sons, Edward Weishuhn in 1996 and Frank Weishuhn in 1999. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 17 at the Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer Logan Chapel with Pastor Edwin Reese and Assistant Pastor Bobby Francis of Antioch Baptist Church co-officiating. Burial will follow in Udell cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday 6-9 p.m.

Bowen, Anna Ruth, Fowlerville, MI

Finn, Mila Eliza, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 84, died Thursday, December 16, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born December 17, 1914, in New Boston, MI, the daughter of Baldwin C. and Eliza (Ferstl) Hasselbach. She married John J. (Jack) Finn and he preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Finn was the Past President of Finn's JM & J Insurance Agency Inc. in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. She was a member and past secretary of the Altrua Group Citizens. She had been formerly employed with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the business office. Mrs. Finn was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti where she was a former member of the Altar Society. She is lovingly survived by two sons, John B. (Bonita) Finn of California and James W. (Sally) Finn of Ann Arbor; nine grandchildren, Karen (Roy) McBrayer, John (Sharla) Finn, Geoffrey (Kara) Finn, Gregory Finn, James (Tava) Finn, Douglas (Collene) Finn, Robert (Carol) Finn, C.J. Finn and Steven Finn; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Theresa Finn and Kristen Finn. Rite of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Monday, December 29, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 East Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor, with Fr. Darin Robert, Chaplain at University of Michigan Hospital, Celebrant.Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Church cemetery, Ypsilanti. Contributions in Mrs. Finn's memory may be made to Arbor Hospice Residence or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Chapel Fund. Envelopes are available at JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, GEER-LOGAN CHAPEL where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. with a Scripture Service on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Hardin, Bryce E., Tawas City, MI

(Formerly of Saline, Saginaw and Flint)
Age 73. Mr. Hardin passed away Thursday, December 16, 1999 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital. Bryce was born February 2, 1926 in Kennett,Missouri but lived in Flint, MI most of his life. He married Maryann Barger on August 10, 1946 at St. Andrews Church in Saginaw. He was employed by Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Saginaw, MI, Coral Gables, FL, Syracuse, NY and Ann Arbor, MI from where he retired in 1979 as Laundry Plant Manager. He was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Saline and a charter member of the Saline Council #6674 of the Knights of Columbus. In 1997, he moved to Tawas City and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #2709, American Legion Post #211, the VFW, AARP and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter #1955. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II in the South Pacific. Besides his wife Maryann, he is survived by one daughter, Diane Lambert and her husband Tom of Tawas City; four granddaughters, Sheryl (Bill) Strand of Milan, Terri (Mike) Taylor, and Patricia and Michelle Lambert, all of Tawas City; five great-grandchildren, David, Daniel and Brandon Strand of Milan and Andrew and Christopher Taylor of Tawas. He also leaves four brothers, Norman (Ann) of Davison, Dean (Lena) of Tampa, FL, Bob (Anne) of Flint and Ken (Jo-Jo) of Grand Blanc; three sisters, Pauline Boven of Mt. Morris, Mildred Smiley of Burton, Bonnie (Angelo) Ragnon of Flint; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, and a great-grandson. The Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 20 from Holy Family Church in Tawas with Fr. Ron Gronowski officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, East Tawas. The Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary 7 p.m. Sunday at the Jacques & Kobs Funeral Home in Tawas where visitation will be Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. He will be sadly missed by his family and all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Memorials suggested to St. Jude's Hospital or Holy Family Catholic Church.

Perry, Earlie, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 73, died Thursday, December 16, 1999. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 20, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE, Moore Memorial Chapel where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery.

King, Edward L., Milan, MI

(Formerly of Otsego)
passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at his home. Ed was born June 1, 1931 in Otsego,the son of Edward and Ruth (Arnold) King. An Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member and Past Master of the Otsego Masonic Lodge #78. Ed had been employed as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for many years. On June 5, 1992 in Plainwell, he was married to Jane R. (Garner) Simmons, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Babette (Jeff) Burleigh of Otsego and Stacey (Mike) Booth of Plainwell, MI; their mother, Nancy J. King of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren, Ian and Alexa Burleigh, Brittany, Tyler and Jacob Booth; sister, Marilyn (Victor) Sauerheber of Corydon, IN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Jessie Arnold. Friends may meet the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego, where services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Stephen W. Tucker officiating. Military graveside honors at Oakwood cemetery, Allegan will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #3030. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheff Center Riding Program for the Handicapped or Paws with a Cause.

Kirschen, Sigmund, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 89, died December 15, 1999. Beloved husband of the late Florence Kirschen; the dear father of Michael (Linda) Kirschen and Nina (Howard) Rush; the grandfather of Rachel and Daniel Kirschen, Jason and David Rush; brother of Morris (Harriette) Kirschen; also many other loving relatives and friends here and in Israel. Miller- Pittman, Delia, Tryon, NC

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)
Delia (Dede) passed away December 16, 1999. She was born on September 25, 1913. Daughter of Delia and George Fransted. One of ten children, she married Ralph Pittman in 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1963. He worked for U of M also as did her daughter-in-law, May Jo Pittman. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death. She married Paul Miller in 1982, and they moved to Tryon, NC. She lived in Ann Arbor for 50 years, worked for Argus and the U of M and she retired from U of M. She is survived by her husband, Paul Miller who is still in Tryon, NC; daughter, Betty (Charles) Torrey of Saline, MI; one son, Douglas Pittman of Evanston, WY; nine grandchildren, Iris (Joe) Peace, Ken (Maji), Bradley and Russell Torrey, Greg (Lauriel), Pauly (Wendy), Kimberly and Christopher Pittman, Denise (Lynn) Nannemann; several great grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place.

Bulmon, Kay, Chelsea, MI

A past 1996 Chelsea graduate, now age 22, died Thursday, December 16, 1999 due to a prolonged illness. Kay was born September 23, 1977 in Detroit, the daughter of Robert C. and Jill M. (McPherson) Bulmon. Kay has lived an exciting life showing all kinds of livestock on the county, state, and national levels since the age of five. In 4-H she achieved the Over All Top Showmanship Award, Top State 4-H Beef Showmanship Award, and was on the top state livestock judging team, just to name a few early accomplishments. Kay also enjoyed her reign while representing the Michigan Angus Association as their Queen in Michigan and Kentucky. Kay continued her studies and her love of animals under the guidance of Dr. Rhode, DVM, Dr. Dale, DVM, and later at the MSU Small Animal Clinic (in ICU) where she worked while attending MSU. Kay was also a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. It was Kay's hope to be remembered for her willingness to help other kids, especially kids with special needs. All who loved Kay will remember her for her caring ways, her courage, and above all, her determination. Survivors include her parents of Chelsea; paternal grandmother, Jane Bulmon of Plymouth; maternal grandparents, Jack and Donna McPherson of Chelsea/Lesburg, FL; maternal great-grandmother, Virginia McPherson of Myrtle Beach, SC; uncles and aunt, Ray D. Bulmon Jr., Randy and Stephanie Bulmon, Jeff McPherson; and Godparents, John and Jane Clark of Lewiston. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ray D. Bulmon Sr. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 19, 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Chelsea, with Rev. Richard Dake and Rev. Kathy Batell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Kay Bulmon Memorial Fund. Arrangements by COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL, Chelsea.

Fahndrich, James Clifford Bud, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 69, owner and longtime bartender of the Orange Lantern in Belleville, passed away Friday, December 17, 1999 at home following a lengthy illness. Bud lived his life around the Lantern and his family. He was born May 26, 1930 in Wyandotte, MI, the son of Pete and Annabelle (Eberts) Fahndrich. He was their first and only child together. Bud moved to the Belleville/Ypsilanti area in the early 1930s, when the family opened the Orange Lantern. After serving in the military during the Korean War, Bud returned to Ypsilanti to work at the Orange Lantern, the only job he ever had. On March 5, 1955, he married Marjorie Midge Fuller and she survives. Bud was a loving stepfather to Richard Lee Dick Van Aernum. He enjoyed and participated in the family activities, especially in the area of harness horse racing. He was a successful owner, trainer and driver over a four-decade career in this sport. In addition to his wife, Midge, survivors include his son, Dick and his wife, Jo Ann; grandchildren, Sara, Lisa and Scott; sisters, Jeri Miller, Jan Burke, Renee Kowal and Jill Tracz; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition, he is also survived by his special cousin and partner at the Orange Lantern, Bob Eberts and his wife Jean and special stepmother Beatrice Fahndrich. Bud will be remembered as a kind father, grandfather, uncle and also, as a devoted son and husband. Most especially, he will be remembered as the man behind the bar at the Lantern over a career spanning six decades. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 20,1999 at Stony Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Peter Harris officiating. Burial will follow in St. John cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washtenaw. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Saturday, 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the church from 12:30 p.m. Monday until time of service.

Pool, Melinda Mindy (Holt), Scio Township

Age 39, passed away December 17, 1999. Survived by her husband Andrew; two daughters, Kari and Ammie; son, David Brantley Jr.; grandson, Christopher Weidman; step-children, Shawn Woodworth, Sherrie Blanchard; her parents; four brothers; a sister, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, Everette and a grandson, Andrew. Mindy worked for the ADP in Ann Arbor. She will be greatly missed by both her family and friends. Funeral services will be held from the HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL, in Dexter, on Monday, December 20, 1999 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2-9 p.m. Interment to Forest Lawn cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Washtenaw.

Maurdeff, Sonia Elizabeth,

Nov 16, 1969 - Oct 30, 1999

Sonia was born in and lived in Ann Arbor, MI for twenty-four years. She was a graduate of Community High School and University of Michigan. Sonia will be sorely missed by her mother, Kathryn Gillay Maurdeff of 12919 West Galaxy Dr, Sun City West, AZ 85375; her maternal grandparents; her aunt and uncle, Carolyn Tuttle Panezich and Frank Panezich; and numerous relatives and friends. Services were held in Orange, CA. A message from her friends: Sonia was a true and loyal friend, who possessed extraordinary intelligence and a unique sense of humor that will not be forgotten. She was well known in the community as an exciting, dramatic and beautiful person, who was always a brave leader in the pursuit of fun. She will always be remembered by those who knew her as a true individual who glittered and sparkled all the days of her life. We miss and love you always. Love, Stars, Peace and Glitter. Those who wish may make a memorial in Sonia's name to the Humane Society of Huron Valley.
