MARJORIE LEE SAMBROOK

Onstead

Formerly of Saline

Margorie Lee Sambrook, 70, of Onstead, formerly of Saline, died Sept. 4, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Clarksville, Tenn., the daughter of Everett and Estell (Crawford) Hembree. She had been a Saline resident for more than 31 years before moving toOnsted.

On July 14, 1956, she married Rodney E. Sambrook in Detroit, andhe survives.

Mrs. Sambrook had been a member of the Bethany Assembly of GodChurch in Adrian. She was employed as a bookkeeper for many years.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Rodney, include two daughters, Lorraine (James) Miles and Brenda (Warren) Cheesewright; eight grandchildren, Brie Cheesewright, Andrew Cheesewright, Connor Miles, Cory Miles, James Finch, Ryan Finch, Steven Cheesewright, and Shelby Cheesewright.

Other survivors include daughter-in-law Heather Finch, brother Donald Hembree and sister Joy Hall.

Mrs. Sambrook was preceded in death by one son, Steven, on Oct. 21, 1984.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bethany Assembly of God Church, 2045 East US-223, in Adrian. The Rev. Steve Samonek will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Christian Mission ofAdrian. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, where friends paid their respects Wednesday.

WAYNE R. SMEAD

Formerly of Saline

Wayne R. Smead, 76, formerly of Saline, died July 31, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Adrian Township the son of Forrest and Ruth (Hagerman) Smead.

On Aug. 11, 1990, he married Barbara J. (Welter) Franklin at the First United Methodist Church in Saline, and she survives.

Mr. Smead had been a staff sergeant with the Ann Arbor Police Department for 26 years, retiring in 1986. Previous to his law enforcement career, he was a farmer.

Mr. Smead was active in the community, a member of the Kiwanis International Foundation, a member of the Saline Hospital Auxiliary and a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church.

His interests included gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

Mr. Smead was a graduate of Onsted High School and Michigan State University.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his children, Roger (Sandy) Smead of Fruitport, Yvonne Smead of Saline, Elizabeth (David) Aitken of Metamora, Darren (Moravia) Smead of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jeanette Franklin of Parker, Colo., Richard (Ayesha) Franklin of East Leroy, Daniel (Kalolaine) Franklin of Los Angeles, Calif., James (Katherine) Franklin of Canton and Carol (Luis) Dimech of Warren. Grandchildren Charles (Carrie) Smead of Smyrna, Ga., Russell (Marlene) Smead of Calcium, N.Y., Rebekah (Leo) Buehler of Phenix City, Ala., Kyle Smead of Seattle, Wa., Valerie Smead of Marquette, Mich., Eladia Smead of Lawrenceville, Ga., John, Katherine, Zachary and Zara Franklin of East Leroy, Mich., Christopher, Luis and Michael Dimech of Warren, and a great-grandson Luke Joseph Smead of Calcium, N.Y., two brothers, Don (Laura) Smead and Howard (June) Smead all of Adrian and his former wife, Erma (Lulham) Smead of Owosso. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held Aug. 3 at the First United Methodist Church in Saline. The Rev. James Tuttle officiated. Burial was at Arborcrest Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements were by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

PETER A. SCHMANSKE

Saline

Peter A. Schmanske, 93, of Saline died peacefully Sept. 7, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi, and son, John.

He is survived by his children, Darlena (Terry) Lafferty and Kenyon (Marianne) Schmaske.

Mr. Schmanske was a devoted grandfather of 10 and loving great-grandfather of nine.

A memorial Mass took place Sept. 16, with a memorial gathering at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care-Area-Evangelical Home-Saline, 440 Russell St., Saline, MI 48176.

FRANCES BUCCILI

Formerly of Milan

Frances Bucilli, 92, formerly of Milan, died Sept. 24, 2006, in Sterling Heights. She was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Milan and raised in the community.

Mrs. Bucilli was the beloved wife of the late Louis Buccilli; mother of Cheryl (Matthew) Evola, Louis Dale (Margaret) Buccilli and the late Robert Buccilli; grandmother of David Evola, Kristin Guitar, Karin Leggio, Justin Buccilli and Christopher Buccilli; great-grandmother of four; and sister of Lillian Nihiser.

Committal prayers were held Sept. 28 at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.

Funeral arrangements were by S.K. Schultz Funeral Home in Eastpointe.

GEORGE AUSTIN

Saline

George Austin, 99, of Saline died Sept. 22, 2006, at the Superior Woods Health Care Center. He was born Feb. 25, 1907, in Wayne the son of William A. and Sophia (Sawslayer) Austin.

On Jan. 15, 1937, he married Eileen Martin at the First Presbyterian Church in Saline, and she preceded him in death Sept. 3, 1996.

He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saline. He also was a member of the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau, and was the oldest living grand master of the Saline Masonic Lodge 322. In addition, he was a lifelong member of the Michigan State Horticultural Society.

Mr. Austin and his wife were co-owners of Austin Orchards of Saline with his brother Hugh and Hugh's wife, Della.

In addition, he played the trumpet all his life and in 1928 played with the Michigan Marching Band. He also played baseball for many years for the Industrial League of Ann Arbor.

Survivors include three sons, James Austin of Houston, Texas, William (Doris) Austin of Hartford and Robert (Phyllis) Austin of Saline; and one daughter, Joan (Jay) Starkey of Saline.

Other survivors include nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son James' wife, Sharon, and a brother and sister.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial services were held Sept. 29 at the First Presbyterian Church in Saline. The Rev. Judy Shipman will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Saline or to the charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the church, where friends may begin calling from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Arrangements were by the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

JOSPEH E. PAYEUR

Ann Arbor

Joseph E. Payeur, 77, died Sept. 22, 2006, at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born June 18, 1929 in Ann Arbor, the son of Alphonse and Albertine (Bedaird) Payeur.

On Sept. 1, 1951, he married Wilma L. Walls at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, and she survives.

Mr. Payeur was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline. He also was a member of the National Guard for 32 years and obtained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a skilled tradesman, and retired from General Motors Corp.

In addition to his wife, Wilma, survivors include one daughter, Diane M. Sturman; two sons, Daniel (Susan) Payeur and Dale J. (Kimberly) Payeur; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Jessica Sturman, Melissa and Sean Payeur, and Jacob and Hannah Payeur; one brother, Laurence Payeur; and two sisters, Irene Swanson and Laurett M. Walters.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Payeur and Benoit Payeur.

A Mass of the Christian Burial was held Sept. 26 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline. The Rev. Gordon Reigle was celebrant.

Burial was at the Oakwood cemetery in Saline following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andrew Catholic Church or to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes are available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home where friends began calling Sept. 25.

A scripture service was held at the funeral home Sept. 25.

DORIS M. ROBISON

Saline

Doris M. Robison, 85, of Saline died Sept. 24, 2006, at St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital. She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Saline the daughter of Herman and Pauline (Gall) Heininger.

On March 27, 1942, she married Lee E. Robison at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, and he preceded her in death June 22, 1995.

Mrs. Robison was the oldest living member and lifelong member of the St. Paul church and a member of the Saline chapter of the O.E.S. 311, the One Voice Gospel Choir, the Saline Community Hospital Woman's Auxiliary and was past president of the Woman's Auxiliary of Saline American Legion Post 322.

Mrs. Robison also enjoyed attending University of Michigan football games with her husband, Lee.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Robyn) Robison of Lewiston and Terrance (Kathie) Robison of Saline; and four grandchildren, Lee, Justin, Bobbi and Nickolas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, and a sister, Erma Wolfin.

A funeral was held Sept. 28 at St. Paul United Church of Christ. The Rev. Patricia Kenney will officiate. Burial will take place at the Oakwood cemetery in Saline following the service.

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Paul church or the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service.

An O.E.S. service was held Wednesday during visitation at the funeral home.

GEORGE SCHECHTER, JR.

Augusta Township

George Schechter Jr., 83, died Oct. 1, 2006, at Saline Evangelical Home. He was born April 10, 1923, in Willis to George and Grace (McLaughlin) Schechter.

On May 24, 1947, he married Margaret Rendel at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Ypsilanti, where he had been a lifelong member.

Mr. Schechter worked as a die-maker at the Ypsilanti Ford Motor Co. plant for more than 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a volunteer for the Augusta Township Fire Department, played on Ford's softball league and bowling league, and was an avid gardener and deer hunter.

In addition to his devoted wife, Maggie, survivors include a loving daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Kevin Bowman of Jackson; two grandsons, Lucas and Alexander Bowman, which he so fondly treasured; and four cousins, Marie Karnatz, Ruth Brancheau, Evelyn Radak and Margie Roberts.

He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Ruth Reum, Mildred Kemp-Rowe and Lucille Dindoffer, and two brothers-in-law, Leland and George Rendel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

"George always enjoyed the many trips up north with his family, " his family said.

Mr. Schechter was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald, and a son, Thomas.

A funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Ypsilanti. The Rev. David Hendricks will officiate.

Following a church luncheon, burial will be at Marble Park cemetery in Milan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lumen Christi High School or the Saline Evangelical Home. Envelopes are available at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan, where friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.
