Branim, James David
Ypsilanti, MI and

Age 62, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005 after fighting cancer. He was born October 7, 1942 in Oneida, TN, the son of William and Frances (Boles) Branim. He moved to Belleville and graduated from Belleville High School in 1960. In 1965 he married Bonnie L. Shear and she survives. He attended WCC for his apprenticeship and journeymen’s card as a plumber-pipefitter. He retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant in 1999, after 38 years of service. In 2001, Jim and wife Bonnie moved to Las Vegas part-time. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor and also Faith Community Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. Jim was a member of the National Guard from 1964-1968. He was a past president of the Corvette Club and of the bocce ball and bowling teams in Las Vegas. Bonnie has fond memories of their many wonderful travels together, both RVing and flying to interesting destinations. In addition to his loving wife of 40 years, survivors include- his loving children, Brad Arnold and Chandra (Michael) Allred; his four truly cherished grandchildren, Alexander James, Cody, Alexis and Katie; his sister, Janice (Ray) Scott; two aunts, Pat Gibler and Laura Brown; two brothers-in-law, Gary (Barb) Shear and Cary (Dorothy) Shear and several wonderful nieces and nephews, Billy Ray Scott, Jeff Scott, Tammy (Jeff) Scott, Craig (Shannon) Shear, Sue (Dave) Kempher and Rick (Robin) Shear. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Branim. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, March 30 at Zion Lutheran Church, 1501 W. Liberty, Ann Arbor with Pastor Barry Ludwig officiating. Burial will follow in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to either Zion Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Tuesday and at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Wednesday.

Brown, Gerald M.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 55, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004. He was born April 1, 1949 in Moundsville, AL, the son of Sammie and Lillie Mae (Jackson) Brown Sr. On June 25, 1966, he married Shirley Johnson and she survives. Gerald was a computer programmer/certified CNC (computer numerical control). He was a very dedicated, hard-working employee who sang while he worked and who will be greatly missed by his co-workers. In addition to his wife, survivors include - four sons, Reginald, Regerald and Regervin Brown and Kelvin Jones; two daughters, Regina and Reginetta; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Charles “Buddy Boy” Brown and Sammie Brown Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willie A. Jackson. The funeral service will be 11 -00 A.M. Saturday, December 11 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home 6-9 P.M. Friday.

Buford, Jeanine L.
Belleville, MI

Age 45, died February 13, 2005. Funeral service 11-00 A.M. Friday, February 18 at Christian Faith Church, 2885 Ellis Road, Ypsilanti with Michael Rosier, Pastor, Strong Tower Ministries, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery, Hillside, IL. Visitation 6-8 P.M. Thursday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. The family hour will be at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Friday.

Bullen, Janie E. Wilson
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 86, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born February 26, 1918 in Cruthersville, MO, the daughter of Ollie A. and Nannie Pearl (Taylor) Johnson. She came to Ypsilanti in 1937. Janie was married to Robert Dall and Delmar Wilson and they both preceded her in death. On October 14, 1976, she married Russell Bullen, who survives at their home. She was a member of South Side Baptist Tabernacle. Janie brought laughter into any room she entered and was loved by all who knew her. In addition to her husband of 28 years, survivors include- foster son, Tony Mansour of Livonia; three nieces, Jewel Blackwell of Dover, OH, Yvonne (Buck) LaFerney of New Madrid, MO and Barbara (Earl) Weibling of Durant, OK; and two nephews, Robert B. Johnson of Ypsilanti and Fred (June) McNabb of Manton, MI. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, Nellie (Shubert) Johnson, one brother, Harry H. Johnson and three sisters, Eunice Bonds, Bethel Womack and Lillian Tatakis. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Saturday, December 18 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West. The family will greet friends at the funeral home 6-9 P.M. Thursday and 4-9 P.M. Friday.

Calbert, David
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 49, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 following a bout with cancer. Funeral 11-00 A.M. Thursday, January 27 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with visitation from 10 A.M. until time of service. Cremation will follow.

Carrouthers, Malinda
Ann Arbor, MI

Age 99, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004 following an extended illness. She was born November 13, 1905 in Uniontown, AL, the daughter of Will and Betty (Collins) Flanagan. She married Will Carrouthers in Mississippi and he preceded her in death. Malinda was a member of Fountain Church of God in Christ and a homemaker all her life. Survivors include- one daughter, Hattie Jones of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Bobby Jones and Lillian Jones; four great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and one nephew, James Finch. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one great grandson and three brothers. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, December 3, 2004 at Fountain COGIC, 530 W. Stadium, Ann Arbor, with Elder Samuel Pepper officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Contributions may be made to the church. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday with the family hour from 7-8 P.M.

Childers, Lenville
Belleville, MI

Age 84, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005. He was born June 17, 1920 in Hellier, KY, the son of James and Vicie Anne (Branham) Childers. On December 19, 1947, he married Crettie Turner in Ypsilanti and she survives. Lenville worked for the Willow Run Public Schools for over 30 years and was a deacon and member of North Prospect Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Oddfellows and Rebecca for over 50 years. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, survivors include- one brother, Gary (Ruby) Childers of Adrian; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, one brother, James Jr., and two sisters, LaVerne Ward and Jeanette Branham. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Monday, February 14 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Eugene Braggs officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the North Prospect Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Sunday.

Cochran, Caroline “Carrie”
Phoenix, AZ
(formerly of Whitmore Lake, MI)

Age 82, with her family surrounding her, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, November 10, 2004 after a long illness. She was born July 27, 1922 in Stratford, CT, the daughter of Van and Sarah (Stevens) Stephens. On June 3, 1940, she married Forrest Cochran and he preceded her in death January 31, 1994. Caroline retired from the University of MI, where she was employed as a receptionist/medical transcriber. She was well-liked and much loved, always with a smile or joke for everyone. Survivors include- three children, Margie Ivan, Gene (Ruth Ann) Cochran and Steven (Ilene) Cochran; eleven grandchildren, Mike Smythe, David (Julie) Smythe, Bonnie (Sid) Rameris, Fay Atkinson, Jeanette (Mike) Vesper, Ronnie Smythe, Deborah (Edward) Schoerner, Robert (Mikki) Cochran, Mike Welker, Rob (Margie) Welker and Christine (Ken) Lawley; twelve great grandchildren; four siblings, Francis Chaney, Gilberta Stephens, Jean (Homer) Green and Richard (Peggy) Stephens; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Stephens. The memorial service will be 3-30 P.M. Monday, December 6, 2004 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian Center in Arizona of Loomis Park Baptist Church in Jackson, MI. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 2-30 P.M. until time of service.

Cofield, Lee James “Red”
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 64, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 24, 1940 in LaGrange, GA, the son of the late George and Brency (Watkins) Cofield. Mr. Cofield was a 1959 graduate of Willow Run High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant for 30 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Cofield was a faithful member of the Community Church of God, where he sang in the men’s choir and was active in church ministry. He traveled extensively abroad and loved all sports. Survivors include- two sisters, Georgia Clay of Ann Arbor and Ann W. Cofield of Ypsilanti; one brother, Eugene (Margie) Cofield of Westland, MI; niece, Michelle Clay of Westland, MI; several other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special friend, Marcia Kersey. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Howard Cofield and Arthur Lee Moss. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, February 2 at Community Church of God, 565 Jefferson, Ypsilanti with Rev. Fred L. Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at United Memorial Gardens. Memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial where visitation will be 12 noon – 4-00 P.M. Tuesday. The family hour will be held at the church from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday.

Collins, Connie “Shorty”
Augusta Township, MI

Age 64, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born April 3, 1940 in Prestonsburg, KY, the son of Glover and Cardella (Jarrell) Collins. He came to the Ypsilanti area in 1957. He was employed by General Motors for 33 years, retiring in 1993. On February 11, 1961, he married Martha Patton in Ypsilanti and she survives. He was a member of Belleville Free Will Baptist Church and the Jellystone Yogi Bear Campground in Perston, IN. Mr. Collins enjoyed camping and hunting. In addition to his wife of 43 years, survivors include- two sons, Robert (Susan) of Whitmore Lake and Mike (Lavonne) Collins of Whitmore Lake; five grandchildren, Bobby, Mikey, Phil, Amanda and Jordan; one brother, Charles (Terry) Collins of Dundee; two sisters, Sylvia Daughtery and Geraldine Magnum, both of IN; and four half sisters, JoMae, Maxie, Opal and Toby. He was preceded in death by two children, William Ray and Mary Ann “Sis, ” and one half brother, O.C. “Boots” Jarrell. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Wednesday, January 12 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Walker Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. Contributions may be made to either Belleville Free Will Baptist Church or St. Joseph Mercy Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.

Copley, Nolda
Duck River, TN
(formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 88, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2004. She was born August 19, 1916 in Inez, KY, the daughter of William and Katherine (Endicott) Horn. On June 18, 1938, she married Jack Copley in Inez and he preceded her in death November 13, 1977. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting. Survivors include- six children, Claude Copley of Milan, MI, Rayburn (Faye) of Duck River, TN, Jackie (Terrin) of Willis, MI, Carol (Marvin) Bibb of Flat Rock, MI, Donna (Harry) Walter of Belleville, MI and James (Pat) of Duck River, TN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Harlan (Jean) Horn of Inez, KY; three sisters, Alene (Prentice) Meade of WV, Carmen (Gene) Parsley and Delphina Shephard, both of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four children, Dayton, Roy, Jeweldine and Gene, and several brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, December 23 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Miles of First Baptist Church of Flat Rock officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cornett, Francis B.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 69, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at home following a bout with cancer. He was born December 15, 1935 in Hazard, KY, the son of Mark and Virgie Cornett. He was a self-employed barber and taxi driver. Survivors include two sons, Mark of Redondo Beach, CA and Sam of South Haven, MI and four grandchildren, Mark, Todd, Sam and Katie Cornett. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial.

Cotton, Tommie E. “Tony”
Ypsilanti, MI

passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005. He was born June 10, 1962 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of John Sr. and Shirley (Randolph) Cotton. He served honorably in the US Army. Tony had been a counselor at the Adrian Training Center, and was currently employed by Washtenaw County as an appraiser. He was a member of Messias Temple Church. Survivors include- his mother, Shirley (Doug) Franklin; wife, Verla; one daughter, Daniell; maternal grandmother, Lucy Randolph; brother John L. Cotton II; three sisters, Debra D. Washington, Cynthia Anderson and Shery (Tracy) Fields; and a host of relatives and friends. His grandfather, Richard Randolph, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Saturday, February 12 at Messias Temple Church 200 Harriet St., Ypsilanti, with District Elder Harry S. Grayson officiating. Interment will follow in United Memorial Gardens. The family hour will be 10-11-00 A.M. Saturday at church.
