Age 80, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born May 24, 1924 in Johnson City, TN. She married James Waters in TN and he preceded her in death March 13, 1997. Sally worked at Canteen Corp. in the Ypsilanti Ford plant. Survivors include - two sons, Dale Waters of Milan and Gary Waters of Ypsilanti; two grandchildren, Christy and James; and one great granddaughter, Bethany. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Timmy and one daughter, Nadine. The graveside service will be 1 -00 P.M. Monday, November 22, 2004 at Washtenong Memorial Park with Pastor Kent Jennings of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Contributions in Mrs. Waters’ memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel.

Watkins Sr., Henderson 'Jitter Bug'
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 80, passed away Friday, November 19, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born September 10, 1924 in Georgia, the son of Howard and Mamie (McFarland) Watkins. On October 23, 1942, he married Ruby Greene in LaGrange, GA and she survives. He was a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church, worked at Motor Wheel for over 40 years and was an avid bowler. In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include- one daughter, Erma (Ernest) Hollie of Ypsilanti; two sons, Henderson (Joyce) Watkins Jr. of Highland Park and Ezell (Alice) Cole of Detroit; 13 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and three brothers. The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at Christ Temple Baptist Church, 2372 Holmes Road, Ypsilanti with Pastor Steven D. Riley officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1-4 P.M. Tuesday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel and then from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday evening at the church.

Westlake, Justin William
Canton, MI

Age 22, passed away Monday, December 20, 2004. He was born November 13, 1982 in Ypsilanti, the son of Jay and Lisa (Polk) Westlake. Justin has been employed by Marsh Plating Corporation in Ypsilanti. Survivors include- his parents; one brother, Jayson, his fiance, Alice, and their daughter, Allyson; one sister, Elisa Westlake; and Justin’s fiance, Karla Krueger and their son, Jordan. He also leaves grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, December 24 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken Wilson of the Vineyard Church of Ann Arbor officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

White, Joel E.
Water Valley, MS
(formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 75, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005 in Water Valley, MS. He was born March 29, 1929 in Waynesboro, TN, the son of Will and Osa (Atkins) White. On October 17, 1948, he married Sarah Barber in Corinth, MS and she preceded him in death September 27, 1978. He then married Lottie Smith on March 15, 1979 and she survives. Joel was a former minister of the Church of Christ and a member of U.A.W. Local 735. Survivors include- wife, Lottie of MS; one son, Leonard (Christine) of Belleville; three stepsons, Bobby Wood and Johnny R. Wood of WV and Larry Wood of Belleville; two daughters, Vicky D. Davis of Grosse Ile, MI and Sarah L. Sowards of Milan; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Lowery of Cforton, MD and Karen McKay of Dearborn Heights; one brother, Daniel G. White of TN; one sister, Monetta Ellison of TN; 25 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Sarah and one son, Cecil. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday March 30 at. STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Evangelist Gary Vaught of Ypsilanti Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.

Wiley, Aniya Rayne
Ypsilanti, MI

Infant daughter of Jolene Rose and Melvin Wiley Jr., passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Other survivors include- her sisters, Mylon Rose-Fleming of Ypsilanti and Kiara Wiley of Ypsilanti; maternal grandmother, Mary Jo Rose of OR; paternal grandparents, Melvin (Gwen) Wiley of Belleville and Valatha Wiley of Belleville; great grandmother, Mary Dean Wiley of Belleville; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 12-00 noon Saturday, April 2 where visitation will be from 10-00 A.M. until time of service. Rev. Dr. Albert Lightfoot of New Hope Baptist Church, Ann Arbor, will officiate. Arrangements by STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel.

Wilson, Winifred P.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 80, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005. She was born January 8, 1925 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Dr. Lawrence C. and Lillian Mae (Bass) Perry. On December 21, 1945, she married Frederick Wilson Sr. and he preceded her in death July 15, 1985. Mrs. Wilson was a medical assistant for Dr. Thomas Bass for 33 years. She was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church in Ypsilanti. Survivors include- one son, Frederick (Joyce) Wilson Jr. of Ypsilanti; five grandchildren, Teonna Brown, Curtis (Cynthia) Wilson, Christopher Rutley U.S. Army, Christene Wilson and Winifred Wilson; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence (Carrie) Perry Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Perry and Rolanda Hudson; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lowell Perry and sister, Donna Sharp. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, February 3 at Second Baptist Church, 301 S. Hamilton, Ypsilanti with Rev. James Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the visitation will be 6-9 P.M. Wednesday with the family hour from 7-8 P.M.

Age 77, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005. She was born May 16, 1927 in Rhody, VA, the daughter of James and Mary (Kelly) Johnson. In 1969, she married Paul Wood in Springfield, OH and he preceded her in death in 1972. Cressie was a member of the Belleville Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include- three daughters, Marylou Singleton of Belleville, Patsy (Bobby) Steele of Brooklyn and Shiela (Gene) Hewitt of Ohio; three sons, Earl (Dyian) Johnson, Dale (Rita) Johnson and Robert Hunt, all of Belleville; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Cochran of TN and Margaret Carpenter of OH; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Eddie, four brothers and a sister. The funeral service will be 1-00 P.M. Monday, January 17 at Belleville Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Walker Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Woods, Jerry Lee
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 48, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his family by his side. He was born May 9, 1956 in Ypsilanti, the son of Roy L. and Ellen M. (Fleege) Woods. Jerry was a 1976 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Quality Containers, Ypsilanti and was a member of the Eagles Aerie #2250, Ypsilanti. Survivors include- his mother, Ellen of Ypsilanti; one son, Casey Lee Woods at home; one sister, Debbie Woods of Ypsilanti; one nephew, Wayne Woods; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and one uncle, Charles R. Fleege. The funeral service will be 2-30 P.M. Saturday, December 11 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1-9 P.M. Friday where an Eagles Memorial Service will be held at 7-00 P.M.

Baird, Mary Jean
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 65, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005 at home in the comfort of her loving family and her two cats after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 11, 1940 in La Follette, TN, the daughter of Warren and Mary (Guy) Brackett. In 1958, she married Charles E. Baird in Detroit and he survives. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers and she excelled as a musician. Mary loved her cats, Mimosa and Kitty-Lou and her dog, Scruff. Spending time with her grandchildren was a very important and special part of Mary’s life. In addition to her loving husband of 46 years, survivors include- two sons, Edward Baird and Daniel (Lorri) Baird, both of Ypsilanti; four grandchildren, Samantha Crossley and Alyssia, Edward and Keith Baird; two brothers, Tommy and Jerry Brackett, both of FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Betty Jo Clark and Charline Lonas, one brother, Wayne Brackett and twin grandchildren, Carolyn and Michael Baird. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Wednesday, July 6 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. Contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Outpatient Cancer Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.

Brown, Gloria O.
Dundee, MI
(formerly of Milan)

Age 69, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. She was born May 26, 1936 in Negaunee, MI, the daughter of Walter and Sanna (Annala) Warmanen. Gloria was a member of the Ypsilanti Women of the Moose and retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant after 34 years. Survivors include- three daughters, Vicki (Jack) Smith of Ohio, Kelly (Larry) Williams of Dundee and Kristi (Matthew) Tomecek of Milan; seven grandchildren, Corey, Megan, Jesse, Dylan, Darcie, Gary and Allyson; two sisters, Karen (Kyle) Gowen of Ypsilanti and Judy (Chuck) Hindbaugh of FL; two brothers, Keith (Judy) Warmanen of Milan and Gary Warmanen of Dundee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one brother and one niece. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Monday, June 20 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ron Shubert officiating. Burial will be in Florida Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Sunday.

Clark, Juanita “June”
Milan, MI

Age 72 died June 25, 2005 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born March 29, 1933 in Utica, NY to Clarence and Evelyn (Bridges) Booth. On December 20, 1951 she married William Clark in Utica and he survives. June enjoyed managing the Christmas Shop in Milan for many years, playing Bunko with the gals, vacationing in Ludington with her family and playing with her little dog Tillie.
Survivors besides her husband include three daughters; Pamela Noplis of Lexington, KY, Laurie Clark of Milan, Julie (Bob) Spuhler of Gibraltar, five grandchildren; Nicole (Mike) Lucas, Wendi (Gary) Lamendola, Michelle Slagle, Melissa (Tom) Szegda, and Codie Spuhler, along with five great grandchildren; Haley, Melanie and Elijah Lucas, Brandon Szegda and Joshua Slagle. Her parents, stepfather Fred Austin, brother Marvin Booth and half-sister Ruby Underwood preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 -00am Wednesday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with the Rev. Jeffery Ford of the Milan Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contributions to Arbor Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9.

Cooper, Harold Edwin “Coop” Sr.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 77, went to be with his heavenly father Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born June 11, 1927 in New Orleans, LA, the son of Allen and Mabel (Brown) Cooper. He attended school in New Orleans. Harold earned an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1776, having served six years at Fisher 1 in Flint and 30 years at GM in Willow Run. Harold was a member of AA for over 20 years and chaired the open talks in the Washtenaw County Jail. Mr. Cooper is survived by- his six children and four stepchildren, Harold (Earlene) Cooper Jr. of New Orleans, LA, Kim M. Richardson of Flint, Gary A. Cooper of Port Huron, Richard Cooper of Flint, Ronald (Shyvonne) Cooper of Ypsilanti, Cathy L. (Jason) Jones of Houston, TX, Carla J. Dent of Houston, TX, Leon E. (Joy) Gould of Flint, Stephanie (Andre’) Morris of Flint and Yvonne Palmer of Ypsilanti; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbert (Mildred) Payne and Charles (Ellarene) Cooper; one sister, Melba (Willie) Barton Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also surviving is the mother of his children, Mary Talbert. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert L. Cooper; grandson, Michael J. Bridges; and Wilhelmina De Silva, mother of his son. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, June 16 at Christ Temple Baptist Church, 2372 Holmes Road, Ypsilanti with Rev. James Ruff officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with the family hour from 7-8 P.M. There will also be a visitation at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Thursday.
