MARGARET J. MURPHY

Gregory

Margaret J. Murphy, 69, of Gregory died May 26, 2006, at Chelsea Community Hospital. She was born June 18, 1936, in Port Huron the daughter of Harold and Catherine (Ryan) Jowett. On June 18, 1955, she married Charles J. Murphy in Port Huron.

Mrs. Murphy was self-employed as an interior decorator for 35 years. She had lived in the Chelsea area for the past 30 years, moving from Ann Arbor. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Pinckney.

Mrs. Murphy volunteered her time in countless ways. Passionate about making changes for the physically and mentally impaired, she volunteered at the Fun Run and for Special Olympics.

An advocate for adults and children concerning special education rights in schools, she served on the Parent Advisory Committee Board for Physically Impaired Children. She also initiated and changed laws for the handicapped in Michigan.

In addition, she was a member of the Chelsea Lioness Club for several years and was awarded Lioness of the Year.

Mrs. Murphy was active in life and loved downhill skiing, sailing, professional softball and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Murphy, of nearly 51 years; two children, Shaun P. Murphy of Pinckney and Theresa A. Murphy of Ann Arbor; five grandsons, Colin, Brendan, Ray, Eion and Dillon; one sister, Mary (Harold) Klettner; and one brother, Harold (Donna) Jowett, all of Port Huron. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

A funeral was held May 31 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pinckney. Burial was at Mount Olivet cemetery in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Michigan.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home.

LUCILLE BAINTON

Chelsea

Lucille Bainton, 97, of Chelsea died June 1, 2006, at Silver Maples. She was born Oct. 7, 1908, in St. Joseph the daughter of Martin and Clara (Gast) Quade.

Mrs. Bainton graduated from Western Michigan University. She was a former teacher of typing and shorthand in Yale, Buchanan, Grass Lake and Lake Orion.

Mrs. Bainton is survived by her husband, Charles C. Bainton, of 58 years; a son, William "Bill" (Sue) Bainton of Chelsea; two nieces, Clara (Norman) Motts of Goshen Ind., and Lorraine Pschigoda of Kalamazoo; a nephew, Martin Pschigoda of Goshen; three grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.

She was proceeded in death by her sister, Mildred Pschigoda.

A celebration of her life was held June 5 at Silver Maples. A private burial was held at Oak Grove East cemetery in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice.

Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

SUSIE WEST

Stockbridge

Susie West, 95, of Stockbridge died peacefully May 31, 2006. She was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Jamboree, Ky., the daughter of Jordon and Maggie (Mandel) West. She had lived in the Stockbridge area since 1937, moving from Kentucky.

Ms. West loved to sew, making beautiful quilts. She also loved to work, especially on the farm. She liked walking and loved to dance.

Mrs. West is survived by two sisters, Frances (Richard) Bauer of Chelsea and Phoebe Turner of Chelsea, and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jo Anne Arnett of Chelsea.

A funeral was held Saturday at Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home in Stockbridge. The Rev. Billy Allen officiated. Burial was at Oaklawn cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

AUDREY J. KEEHN

Chelsea

Audrey J. Keehn, 85, of Chelsea, formerly of Lexington, died unexpectedly June 5, 2006, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born July 12, 1920, in Detroit the daughter of George H. and Marie (Sordelet) Wyss.

Mrs. Keehn had been a resident of Chelsea for 10 years, coming from Lexington. She was an avid worker of crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and adored her grandchildren.

Her husband, Lawrence J. Keehn, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her two children, Theresa (Charles) Ongena of St. Clair and Thomas (Joy) Keehn of Concord, Calif.; three grandchildren, Christopher (Karen) Ongena, Sara (Jacob) Spence and Stephanie (Michael) Munley; one great-grandson, Thomas Christopher Ongena; one brother, John (Betty) Wyss of Southgate; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Rose Cook, May 2, 2006.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The Rev. William Turner will officiate.

The family received friends Wednesday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea, where a rosary was held. They also will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery in St. Clair.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

CATHERINE WALSH DEISINGER

Redford

Formerly of Dexter

Catherine Walsh Deisinger, 95, of Redford died June 7, 2006. She was born Oct. 10, 1910, in Dexter and graduated from St. Thomas High School at age 16. She began teaching in one-room schoolhouses at 18.

In 1940, she married Frank Deisinger and raised five children. She returned to teaching in the late '60s at St. Valentine's School in Redford Township and retired in 1979.

Mrs. Deisinger was buried at St. Joseph's Cemetary in Dexter.

JAMES "JIM" KNIGHT

Dexter

James "Jim" E. Knight, 64, of Dexter died June 7, 2006, at the University of Michigan Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Ann Arbor the third son of Raymond and Alda (Morhardt) Knight.

The family moved to Base Lake, where Mr. Knight graduated from Pinckney High School in 1959. He married Julie Doletzky June 21, 1963, and they later moved to Dexter Township, where he remained throughout his life.

Mr. Knight attended Cleary College and Eastern Michigan University. He worked as a manager with Ford Motor Co. for 30 years. After retiring, he consulted for Barnard Manufacturing in St. John.

Mr. Knight was active in the community. He served on the Dexter Township Planning Commission, was an active member of Dexter American Legion Post 557, was an Army veteran, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

In addition, Mr. Knight was an avid golfer and loved life. He could be found any morning having coffee at the Lighthouse Cafe in Dexter, "consulting" at Huron Valley Restaurant Equipment or at the Legion on Friday nights, socializing with his many friends and relatives.

Mr. Knight was a hard worker who led his life with integrity and benevolence.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Knight.

Mr. Knight is survived by his wife, Julie, of 43 years; his children, Jeff (Kelly), Jon (Kim), Jason of Dexter and Jennifer (Ryan) Cook of Grand Rapids; and grandchildren, Kenny, David, Joshua, Kristina and Victoria Knight of Dexter.

Also surviving are his brother, Richard (Ethel) of Pinckney, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter. The Rev. Mark Porinsky officiated.

Visitation was held Thursday and Friday at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

PETER KALENCHUK

Dexter

Peter Kalenchuk, 92, of Dexter died June 10, 2006.

Mr. Kalenchuk, enjoyed hunting, feeding birds and squirrels, and was an avid fisherman. He also loved working in the yard.

Mr. Kalenchuk was a member of the Ann Arbor Eagles.

He was the beloved husband of Pauline (nee Husak); devoted father of Michelle (Robert) Mazur of Naples, Fla.; stepfather of Linda (Don) Hill of Horton and Bonnie (Larry) Jackson of Ypsilanti; loving grandfather of Becki Nutt, Matt and Corey Hill and Ginger Jackson; and great-grandfather of Molly and Madeline Nutt, Ellery and Wyatt Hill and Riley Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his 13 brothers and sisters.

The family received friends Tuesday at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter. The funeral was held Wednesday. Burial was at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Dexter.

GEORGE R. MERANUCK

Bradenton, Fla.

George R. Meranuck, 89, of Bradenton, Fla., died peacefully May 31, 2006, with his loving wife, Wilma, of 65 years, and his granddaughter, Katie, by his side.

Mr. Meranuck was born April 19, 1917, in Detroit. He retired from the Detroit Police Department after 26 years of service as a detective, sergeant, lieutenant and, before he left, an inspector. In July 1967, he became chief of police in Chelsea, where he served for 12 years until his final retirement and move to Bradenton, Fla.

Mr. Meranuck was a member of Manatee United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge 1511 and the Retired Detroit Police Lieutenants Association.

He always will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, ability to get along with everyone he met, his love of life and, most of all, his love for his family.

Mr. Meranuck was preceded in death by his son, James R. Meranuck.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; son, Daniel L. (Ruanne) Meranuck of Toledo, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Meranuck of Manchester; grandchildren, Dawn (Keith) Blum, Mike and Katie Meranuck; and great-grandchildren, Max and Mia.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home in Bradenton.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Manatee United Methodist church, 315 15th St. E., Bradenton, FL 34208.

MARIAN J. FARRELL CAMP

Ann Arbor

Marian J. Farrell Camp, 94, died peacefully June 6, 2006, at Hillside Terrace Retirement Center in Ann Arbor. She was born July 31, 1911, in Dexter Township the daughter of Emmett and Clara (Marsh) Farrell.

On April 10, 1937, she married George Samuel Camp at. St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter, and he preceded her in death Aug. 14, 2000.

Mrs. Camp graduated from Dexter High School in 1930 and Cleary Business College in 1932. She was a bookkeeper for many years with Mack and Company, and then the city of Ann Arbor. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Her hobbies included watching Michigan football, gardening, traveling, needlework and making German Christmas cookies.

Mrs. Camp is survived by two daughters, Doris E. (Alvin) Lipnik and Kathleen A. (Richard) Taylor of Ann Arbor; five grandchildren, John E. (Adri) Boudeman of Naperville, Ill., Jeanne (fiance, Charles Hecht) Cardona of Chapel Hill, N.C., Susan M. Boudeman, Christine A. (Ronald) Schulz, and Laurel T. (Chad) Spencer, all of Ann Arbor; one step-grandchild, David A. Lipnik; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel E. Boudeman and Ian R. Schulz.

She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Bauer; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Camp and Margaret Hayman; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Camp; and four brothers, Francis, Robert, Martin and Louis (Bud) Farrell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hillside Terrace Retirement Center in Ann Arbor.

Mass of Catholic Burial was held Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter. The Rev. Brendan Walsh officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph cemetery in Dexter.

The family received friends and relatives Friday at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Home in Dexter.

D. LAWRENCE MORAN

Chelsea

Formerly of Ann Arbor

D. Lawrence "Larry" Moran, 93, of Chelsea, a former longtime Ann Arbor resident, died in peace at home June 6, 2006, surrounded by the love of family. He was born Sept. 17, 1912, on a ranch outside Hyannis, Neb., the son of Floyd Lindsay Moran and Sarah Louise Jones Moran.

Mr. Moran worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant during World War II, then pursued a career in sales, including 40 years as a representative for Investors Diversified Services before his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Exchange Club of Ann Arbor and a 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, where he served several terms as both deacon and elder.

His special loves were playing with children, fishing, golf and Michigan football.

Mr. Moran demonstrated how to live with integrity, humility, kindness, gentleness, deep faith, caring for those in need and respect for all with a ton of love and just plain fun.

Mr. Moran is survived by his wife and partner, Donna Elizabeth Webb Moran, of almost 71 years; his four daughters, Patricia Cheatham of Ann Arbor, Marjorie (David) Mastie of Chelsea, Judith Martin of Edina, Minn., and Linda VanLente of Berwick, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren, Fredrick (Sandra) Hopper of Holly, Gordon (Sherry) Hopper of Wyandotte, Thomas (Antoinette) Hopper of Ann Arbor, John Hopper of Denver, Scott (Lynn) Mastie of Longmont, Colo., Andrew (Nan) Mastie of Ann Arbor, Laura (Scott) Buford of St. Paul, Minn., Paul (Ilka Becker) Martin of Helena, Mont., A. Lindsay (Michael) McGill of Haleiwa, Hawaii, Jennifer (David) Cerreta of Berwick, Pa., Emily (John) Kramer of York, Pa., and Joseph VanLente of Berwick, Pa.

He also is survived by 17 great-grandchildren, Wendy and Kevin Hopper of Holly, Richard Hopper of Ypsilanti, Sara Hopper of Wyandotte, David Hopper of Temecula, Calif., Alyssa Castro Hopper of Ann Arbor, Ellen and Karen Mastie of Longmont, Colo., Julia, Noah and Isaac Mastie of Ann Arbor, Dax and Finnegan McGill of Haleiwa, Hawaii, Philip and Hannah Martin of Helena, Mont., Nika Cerreta of Berwick, Pa., and Lydia Kramer of York, Pa.

His sister-in-law, Orpha "Pat" Moran of Bradenton, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Moran was preceded in death by his parents; his six brothers, Harold, Lyall, Owen, Roger, Kenneth and Horace "Bud;" a sister, Hallie; and a son-in-law, Thomas VanLente.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the main sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Bright colors are welcome and children are especially encouraged to attend.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Larry Moran Memorial Scholarship Fund for the children's ministry at First Presbyterian Church or to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48103.
