BARBARA LOU OSTRANDER
Battle Creek
Formerly of Chelsea
Barbara Lou Ostrander, 79, of Battle Creek died March 3, 2005, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born March 2, 1926, in Columbus, Ohio, to Tecumseh and Iva Mae (Wilson) Holmes. She was raised in Columbus, later moving to Battle Creek, where she graduated from Battle Creek Central High School.
In 1946, she married
Robert N. Ostrander and they had two beloved sons, Carl and Robert.
Mrs. Ostrander lived in Germany for two years and settled in Chelsea for most of her adult life. She had many close friends, including a special friend, Don Noffsinger, in Chelsea.
Mrs. Ostrander was employed by the Chelsea Milling Co. and Chrysler Motors while in Chelsea. She moved to Battle Creek in 1984 and was employed at a number of places, including Candyland, Horrocks, C.D.C. and Sparky's Nest Daycare, The Art Center of Battle Creek and Leila Arboretum.
Mrs. Ostrander was a lifelong learner, continuing her education after age 70 at Kellogg Community College, focusing on child development. She volunteered at many places, giving her time and abundant energy to the VFW Auxiliary, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the American Legion and Michigan State University Biological Station.
The greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren, Adam, Rachel, Aaron, Jeff and Mike, who she doted on with great affection.
She also claimed Cheryl Laboch and Dave Gray as extended family and had a wonderful relationship with dear friend Lee LaBoch, who preceded her in death by three days.
Mrs. Ostrander is survived by two daughters-in-law, Rhonda and Laura Ostrander; five grandchildren, Adam, Rachel, Aaron and Jeff Ostrander, and Michael (Bridget) Smith; and one great-grandson, Justin Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings, Estella Rose, Frank Holmes, Mary Alice Holmes, Tecumseh "Junior" Holmes; and two sons, Carl in 1998, and Robert in 2004.
Mrs. Ostrander leaves behind a legacy of great humor and tremendous loyalty and caring.
A funeral was held Monday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek.
Interment was at Union cemetery in Columbus, Ohio.

H. WAYNE ENGLAND
Chelsea
Spring Lake
H. Wayne England, 86, of Chelsea, Spring Lake, died at his home March 6, 2005. He was born Feb. 23, 1919, the son of Otis E. and Irene P. (Scheely) England in Sylvia, Tenn. In 1943, he married
Mary W. (Penn) and she survives.
Mr. England had lived in Chelsea for the last 29 years after moving from Ypsilanti. He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 190.
Mr. England loved to fish for bass and pan fish on Spring Lake. He was a 50-year member of the Ypsilanti Phoenix Lodge. He also was a member of the Masonic Clown Unit, performing at the Shrine Circus and for many children at Shriners hospitals across the Midwest.
Most of all, Mr. England was known for being the family's handyman. He built his own home and helped his two children build their homes.
He attended the University of Tennessee and remained a devoted Vols fan.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by their two children, Robert W. (Jill) England of Ypsilanti and Beverly J. (Walter) Schmid of Chelsea; and his sister, Donna Lee (Peter) Padis, of Oklahoma.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Robert W. England Jr. of Ypsilanti, Wally (Christina) Schmid of Ann Arbor and Sandra (Joe Dunny) Schmid of Chelsea; one great-grandchild, Oliver Katka Schmid; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his four brothers.
A memorial service will take place in the spring.

VINCENT J. (RUBE) LAROSA
Pine Island, Fla
Vincent J. (Rube) LaRosa, 77, died Feb. 25, 2005, at home with his family on Pine Island, Fla. He was born April 24, 1927.
Mr. LaRosa was assistant fire chief for the Dexter Fire Department. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and a charter member of the American Legion Post 557 in Dexter.
Mr. LaRosa was on the board of directors at Old Kent Bank of Gaylord and was a member of the Gaylord City Council. He also was on the original board for the development of the Gaylord Air Industrial Park.
Mr. LaRosa and his wife, Ann, established LaRose & Co. in Gaylord in 1960. In 1978, they retired to Pine Island Fla., where Mr. LaRosa established Rubes' Rod Repair.
He was a member of the Pine Island Moose Lodge and the VFW of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
He was an avid hunter, golfer and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. LaRosa is survived by his wife and partner of 57 years; his children, Vincent J. LaRosa II of Gaylord, Jo Ann (Scott) Rector of Harbor Springs, James (Janet) LaRosa of Cape Coral, Fla., Kristina (James) Beery of Zachary, La., Michael (Christine) LaRosa of Gaylord and Jacklyn (Michael) Prusakiewicz of Gaylord.
Also surviving are his sister, Alice (Glenn) Miller of Dexter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

LENA O'DOHERTY
Whitmore Lake
Lena O'Doherty, 74, of Whitmore Lake died March 4, 2005, at the University of Michigan Hospital. She was born May 9, 1930, in Whitmore Lake to Benjamin and Dorothy (Byrd) Strong.
Mrs. O'Doherty was a great horticulturist, as she was able to grow and flourish plants and flowers. She loved to play cards, country living and weekend trips.
A Brighton High School graduate, she married
her high school sweetheart, Gerald. They were married
57 years.
Mrs. O'Doherty was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Curts.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Michele Tart; sons, Michael and Patrick; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
As a 30-year cancer survivor, she had good reasons to struggle on, caring for elder uncles and aunts, and was a leader of hope to those recovering from the disease.
Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.
A funeral was held Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Brendan Walsh officiated.
Burial was at Washtenong Memorial Park.

PHYLLIS ANN LEDWIDGE
Port Charlotte, Fla.
Formerly of Dexter
Phyllis Ann Ledwidge, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Dexter, died March 5, 2005. She was born June 3, 1928, to Clifford and Ruth (Weiss) Poppenger.
She married
John H. Ledwidge on Dec. 27, 1945. He survives, as well as their children, Linda (Howard) Gane of Marquette, Paul (Beth) Ledwidge of Dexter, John (Gayle) Ledwidge and Michael (Karen) Ledwidge, both of Ann Arbor, and Ruth (Gene) Hunt of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Ledwidge of Dexter; two sisters, Joy Lawhead of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Emily Mosher of Ann Arbor; and two brothers, Robert Poppenger of Milan and David Poppenger of Chelsea.
She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ledwidge was preceded in death by her son, Richard Ledwidge; sister, Mildred Wheeler; and four brothers, Clifford, Norman, Donald and Alfred Poppenger.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter. The family received visitors yesterday.
ALTON L. GIESKE
Napoleon
Formerly of Chelsea
Alton L. Gieske, 91, died March 3, 2005, at Foote Hospital in Jackson. He was born July 24, 1913, the son of Lambert and Esther (Sodt) Gieske.
Mr. Gieske graduated from Manchester High School in 1931. He had worked for several companies over the years, including Clark Equipment in Jackson, Boose Products in Unadilla, Village Motors in Chelsea and Pearson's Tools. For 40 years, he owned and operated Al's TV repair in Chelsea.
On July 3, 1937, he married
Geraldine M. Mast in Indiana, and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Carol (Gene) Ledford of Chelsea, Robert (Dianne) Gieske of Onsted and Sandie (Richard) Neff of Chelsea; one brother, Willard (Linda Stott) of Harrison; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Widmayer and Ruby Savage; and one brother, Earl Gieske.
A funeral was held Monday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. Joy Barrett officiated. Burial was at Rowe's cemetery in Manchester.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Gieske will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 67 years, his three children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his entire family, all who knew him and loved him.
Enid E. Federpsiel
Randville - Enid E. Federspiel, 81, of N6705 Highway M-95, Randville, died Sun.March 4, 2007 at her home. She was born on Oct. 22, 1925 in Eagle River, WI the daughter of the late Harry and Hattie (Jacobs) Gooding.
She married
Vernon Federspiel on March 11, 1940 in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Enid retired as a LPN at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. Involved for more than fifty years with the Randville Bible Church, Enid was active in many outreach ministries in the community including, playing guitar and auto harp with the Singing Strings
Enid is survived by two daughters Lillian Federspiel and Doris Edwards, bothof Denver, CO; one sister Norma Greer of Kingsford; two brothers Doug Gooding of Kingsford and Ronald (Nancy) Gooding of Sheboygan Falls, WI; four grandchildren, Phillip Smith, Timothy Smith, Xonia Edwards-Borland and Michael Edwards; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters Tressa Drager, Ethel Johnson, Laura Johnson, and Fern LaBine, two brothers Louis Gooding and Gene Gooding, and one grandson David Edwards.
Visitation will be Friday, March 9 from 10:00-11:00am at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home
Funeral services will follow at 11:00am Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Blaine Donaldson will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing cemetery.

Catherine A. Roell
Channing - Catherine A. Roell, 48, of Channing, died Tuesday Feb. 27, 2007 as a result of an automobile accident. She was born on Sept. 1, 1958 in Parkersburg, WV, the daughter of Margie (Robinson) Wilson and the late Robert Wilson, Sr.
Cathy moved to Iron Mountain with her family as a child. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1976 and then moved to Sawyer Lake.
She married
Kenneth J. Roell on Nov. 10, 1979 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing.
Cathy was a RN for Dr. James Batti. She was a devoted mother who lived for her children. Cathy enjoyed cross country skiing, walking, and biking.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth and her five children Staff Sgt. Kenneth R. Roell, USAF, stationed at Goldsboro, NC; Brandon M. Roell, a student at NMU; Andrew O. Roell a student at Bay College; Jessica L. Roell at home; and Melanie R. Roell at home; her mother Margie L. Wilson of Sawyer Lake; Channing, one brother, Robert (Sue) Wilson Jr. of Beverly Hills, FL; four sisters Sharon (Larry) Broeders of Citrus Springs, FL; Joyce (Derle) DeLos Santos of Crystal Falls; Barbara Wilson of Salt Lake City, UT; and Karen (Richard) Larson of Iron Mountain; her mother-in-law, Imogene Ann Roell of Channing, brother & sister-in-laws, Sharon (Joe) Bussone, Robert (Wanda) Roell, Patricia Roell, Nancy (Steve) Reese, David (Julie) Roell, Tom (Patti Ann) Roell, and Julie (Mike) Kauper. Also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her father Robert Wilson, Sr., and a sister-in-law and brother in law; Mary (Terry) Croci.
Friends may call on Saturday, from 9:30am until 12:00pm at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Channing. Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm (noon) at the church. Father Richard Mroz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Channing cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.
Doris V. Shivy
Iron Mountain - Doris V. Shivy, 82, of Iron Mountain, died Weds. Feb. 21, 2007 at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, FL. She was born on Jan. 23, 1925 in Metropolitan, the daughter of the late Jacob and Louise (Blomquist) Wickman.
Doris graduated from Felch High School. She worked for Doctor Schmutzler. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and its quilting group. Doris enjoyed watching the ducks on Crystal Lake, doing crosswords puzzles and dining out. She spent her winters in Homosassa, Fl.
She married
John H. Shivy on Oct. 24, 1942 in Kingsford. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Doris is survived by one daughter Lorna (Randy) Dahlke of Redmond, OR, two sons Randy (Barbara) Shivy of Hope Mills, NC, and Arthur Shivy of Homosassa, Fl, one sister Verna Gaynor of Sacramento, CA, seven grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers Chester, Leo, and Ernest Wickman, and two sisters Edna Rutberg and Beatrice Dillenbeck.
Visitation will be Tues. from 10am-12 noon at First Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be Tues. at 12noon at the church. Rev. James Chinery will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery.
