ELIZABETH "BETTY" LODER

Chelsea

Elizabeth "Betty" Loder, 87, ofChelsea died May 13, 2006, at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born May 16, 1918, in Owosso, the daughter of Loy B. and Vida (Winn) Hackett.

Mrs. Loder had lived in Chelsea since 1993, coming from Burton. She was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University, where she studied music. She taught school for 37 years in the Atherton School District.

Mrs. Loder was a former member of Atherton United Methodist Church, where she was choir director, and, upon her death, was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church.

In addition, Mrs. Loder was a member of the Michigan Education Association and the Flint Theater Organ Club.

On June 29, 1943, she married Harold Milton Loder, and he preceded her in death May 8, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Keith (Diane) Loder of Niles and Wayne (Patricia) Loder of Milford; a sister-in-law, Virginia Hackett of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, David (Wendy) Loder, Wendy (Travis) Stevanson; Christopher and Kathryn Loder; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Caroline, Taylor and Paige; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Stephanie and Stephen Loder, and two brothers, Winn Hackett and Loy J. Hackett.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Chelsea Retirement Community. The Rev. Beth Foster will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Tekonsha cemetery in Tekonsha.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Retirement Community or The Compassionate Friends.

Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

SUZANNE J. RUSS

Chelsea

Suzanne J. Russ, 81, of Chelsea died May 11, 2006, as the result of a decade-long illness. She moved to Chelsea from Kansas City, Kansas, in 1996, living first at the home of her daughter and then at the Chelsea Retirement Community.

Mrs. Russ was born July 6, 1924, in the farmhouse of her parents, Clarence G. and Ida M. (Strelluf) Yoder, near Holden, Mo. On June 13, 1943, she married Vol A. Russ in Holden, Mo.

Mrs. Russ taught in a country school for a time, and loved to tend to her vegetable garden and flowers, can and freeze the produce, play the piano, recite poetry, tole paint, refinish furniture and play bridge.

She was active in the life of the Chelsea Retirement Community, serving on the Resident Council as the food committee chairwoman.

Mrs. Russ is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Max Plank of Chelsea; two grandsons, Kyle Plank of Holland and Kerry (Theresa) Plank of Ypsilanti; and two great-grandchildren, Caley and Regan Plank.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, John Yoder.

A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Chelsea Retirement Community. The Rev. Beth Foster will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Medford cemetery Association, 710 S. Olive, Holden, MO 64040.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

LINDA L. MORSE PITTS

Fort Gratiot Township

Linda L. Morse Pitts, 51, of Fort Gratiot Township died unexpectedly May 15, 2006, in Mercy Hospital. She was born July 31, 1954, to Alfred and Joyce Cook in San Diego.

Mrs. Pitts attended school in Zanesville, Ohio, and later graduated from St. Clair County Community College with a degree in nursing.

Previously, Mrs. Pitts worked at the Evangelical Home Port Huron and various other area nursing homes. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, shopping and was especially fond of Shih-tzu dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Jack L. Pitts, and her former husband, Larry J. Morse, both of Fort Gratiot Township; her three children, Charles E. (Suzanne) Brown II of St. Clair Shores, Angela (David) Rock of East China and Jennifer (Justin) Scott of Chelsea; six grandchildren, Alexa, Haley, Sabian, Erin, Jayden, and Jonah; and her brother, Steven (Denise) Cook of Zanesville, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joyce Cook.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Brendan Walsh will officiate.

Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

WARREN A. LEISINGER

Chelsea

Warren A. Leisinger, 66, of Chelsea died May 15, 2006, at Chelsea Community Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born April 13, 1940, in Jackson the son of the late Don C. and Margaret (Scheele) Leisinger.

Mr. Leisinger worked as a driver and mechanic for the DaimlerChrysler Proving Grounds for 36 years, retiring April 30, 1998. He enjoyed fishing, tractors, and Hit and Miss engines, but they all had to be internationals.

On Nov. 10, 1962, he married Alice K. Eschelbach, and she survives.

Also surviving are their two children, Sarah (Chris) Leisinger Thomas of Ann Arbor and Jeff (Nicole) Leisinger of Plymouth; two loving grandchildren, Maya and Dominik; one brother; Brian (Lana) Leisinger of Stockbridge; one sister-in-law, Helen Steele of Chelsea; a niece and nephew, Margret (Jeff) Long of Stockbridge and Keith (Stacey) Leisinger of Grass Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Area Fire Authority or the Chelsea Community Hospital Health and Wellness Scholarship Fund.

Private services were held.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.

PAM DITTMAR

Pinckney

Pam Dittmar, 59, of Pinckney died May 15, 2006. She was born May 20, 1946, in Mount Clemens the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Joliff) Tipple.

Mrs. Dittmar was very involved in the Dexter High School band as a volunteer, and she worked for the Dexter schools for 10 years. She also loved to quilt.

Mrs. Dittmar is survived by her husband, Rod; daughters, Cari and Marci (James) Farnstrom; and step-father, Jay Cacciopo.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

The family will receive visitors from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

FREMONT LEE BOYER

Chelsea

Fremont Lee Boyer, 77, of Chelsea died April 27, 2006, at the Chelsea Retirement Community surrounded by his children. He was born Oct. 25, 1928, in Mulliken, the son of Fremont Lee and Ruby Louise (Huffman) Boyer.

Mr. Boyer lived in Chelsea most of his life, and he graduated from Chelsea High School in 1947. He worked for Rockwell International in Chelsea for more than 20 years. Later he worked for Patterson Lake Products in Pinckney.

Mr. Boyer was a Korean War veteran, and became an active member at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as post commander many times, sergeant at arms and treasurer. He also volunteered at the VA hospital.

He enjoyed bowling, cribbage and hunting. He also was a faithful member of the Chelsea First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three sons, David Boyer of Battle Creek, Glenn (Jan) Boyer of Dexter and Fremont Lee Boyer III of Battle Creek; one daughter, Jennifer (Marvin II) Fischer of Jackson; four brothers, Laurance, Keith, Duane and Winston; three grandchildren, Randell and Stephanie Boyer and Kimberly (Brian) Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Boyer, and a sister, Eulahlee Packard.

The family received friends Sunday and Monday at Cole Funeral Chapel. The funeral service was held Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Chelsea. The Rev. Joy Barrett officiated. Burial was at Fort Custer National cemetery in Augusta.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea First United Methodist Church, Towsley Village at CRC or the VFW.

DENISE M. DeVOE

Chelsea

Denise M. DeVoe, 38, of Chelsea died unexpectedly April 27, 2006, at her home. She was born June 28, 1967, in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Dean and Nancy (Parks) DeVoe.

Ms. DeVoe had lived in the Chelsea area all of her life. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1987, and worked for Chelsea Community Hospital for 20 years in the food service department. She volunteered her time in so many ways, including Relay for Life, the American Heart Association and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She also loved Karaoke.

Ms. DeVoe is survived by her father and step-mother, Dean and Bonnie DeVoe of Battle Creek; three brothers, Robert DeVoe of Manchester, Dean DeVoe Jr. and Donald DeVoe, both of Portage Lake; two sisters, Dianne DeVoe of Chelsea and Deborah (Thomas) Loniewski of Laingsburg; one step-brother, Tyler McGuire of Battle Creek; two nephews, Henry and Thomas Loniewski; her special friend, Bonnie; several cousins, aunts and uncles, including Robin and Gary Scripter.

Ms. DeVoe was preceded in death by her mother; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Kathleen Parks; and her paternal grandparents, Arthur and Viola DeVoe.

A funeral service was held Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. The Rev. William Turner officiated.

The family received friends at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Community Hospital, St. Mary Church of Chelsea or hospice of one's choice.

DORIS MARY BLANCHARD

Chelsea

Doris Mary Blanchard, 78, of Chelsea died April 30, 2006, at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Detroit the daughter of Vernie H. and Mabel J. (Anderson) Averill.

Mrs. Blanchard had resided in Chelsea since 1956. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, a volunteer at Chelsea Community Hospital, and she retired after 35 years of service at Federal Screw Works in Chelsea in 1988.

Mrs. Blanchard married Charles A. Blanchard in Gregory April 29, 1950, and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1976.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen (Rick) Beeman of Chelsea; her granddaughter, Kendra; one niece; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Archie and Kenneth Averill.

Funeral services were held May 3 at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. The Rev. Karen Schulte officiated. Burial followed at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.

The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary or St. Paul United Church of Christ in Chelsea.

GENEVA DICKELMAN

Punta Gorda, Fla.

Formerly of Chelsea

Geneva L. Dickelman, 81, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died April 27, 2006. She was born July 18, 1924, in Hot Springs, Ark., to Sidney and Cora Lee (McMillian) Brown.

Mrs. Dickelman moved from Chelsea to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1982. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Chelsea.

She was a loving mother and enjoyed the company of her friends and family.

Mrs. Dickleman will be greatly missed by her daughter, Jane (James) Zollicoffer of Cabot, Ark.; sons, Donald L. (Bonnie) of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Lee A. of Crested Butte, Colo.; a sister, Lillian Smith of Westville, Ind.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Dickelman, of 62 years.

RONALD J. BUSH

Chelsea

Ronald J. Bush, 53, of Chelsea died April 27, 2006, at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born Nov. 15, 1952, in Chelsea the son of the late Norwood and Phyllis (Potter) Bush Sr.

Mr. Bush had worked for JAC Products for 20 years as a supervisor. He enjoyed working on cars, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and helping people.

On Aug. 25, 1984, he married Mary E. Hutting, and she survives. Also surviving are one son, Timothy Bush of Chelsea; three sisters, Diane (Tom) Bishop of Mason, Pat (Richard) Miller of Las Vegas and Jan Michaels of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Norwood Bush Jr.

Visitation took place at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.
