Mildred Abarr
IRON MOUNTAIN - Mildred M. Abarr, 89, of 414 Chapin St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on July 4, 1915, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Germano and Catterina (Ceritto) Melelli.
Millie married Richard Abarr on July 2, 1955. He preceded her in death in November 1998.
Millie had worked in the office of Surplus Foods Distributing during the WPA days and for Johnston Biscuit Co. She had also worked at the northside sewing factory and S.S. Kresge.
Millie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Fleet Reserve Association of Green Bay, Branch180. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and was noted as an excellent cook.
She is survived by one sister, Antoinette 'Toni' Melelli of Iron Mountain; many nieces and nephews; special great-nieces and great-nephews; and very special great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marino and Adolph Melelli and by two sisters, Mary Bartsch and Katherine Johnson.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Bertha Larson
IRON MOUNTAIN - Bertha A. Larson, 84, of 316 West D St., Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Bertha was born July 9, 1920, in Two Rivers, Wis., daughter of the late Armidas and Julia (Rosette) Lesperance. She lived in the area most of her life.
Bertha married Everett Larson on Aug. 10, 1963, in Iron Mountain. She was the mascot for the Karaoke Club Playgirls, a Tri-County Women's Softball League team. Bertha enjoyed playing Bingo and loved to sing karaoke.
She is survived by her husband, Everett; five children, Donna (Jerome) Zagorski of Chicago, Lester (Nancy) Larson of York, N.C., Lee (Pam) Larson of Chicago, Bruce (Rhonda) Larson of Spartanberg, S.C. and Richard (Suzanne) Pontzloff of Appleton, Wis.; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Talstu.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Peter Jonas will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Henry V. Mikulich
KINGSFORD - Henry 'Hank' Mikulich, 80, of Kingsford, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at his home in Kingsford.
He was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Melstrand, son of the late Jacob and Frances (Kosir) Mikulich. Hank graduated from Munising High School and served in the army in World War II for three years before being honorably discharged. Hank attended college at Michigan Tech and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.
On Sept. 6, 1952, he married Patricia Ann Mellon at the Sacred Heart Church in Munising. He worked for Lake Shore Inc. for 37 years serving as chief engineer of the Mining Division for several years before retiring in 1987.
Hank was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved playing bridge and blackjack at the casino, singing in the choir, playing the accordion, working in his garden, tinkering in the garage, and visiting with his children and grandchildren.
He served as manager of the Tri-City Duplicate Bridge Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church where he was a lay reader, Eucharistic minister and adult choir member.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; nine children; Linda Reddinger of Dublin, Ohio, Sue (Bruce) Varda of Iron Mountain, Jan (Jim) Peterson of Kingsford, Teresa Bjorkman of Niagara, Wis., Steve (Lori) Mikulich of Shelby Township, Rich (Elizabeth) Mikulich of Iron Mountain, Gail (Terry) Lisowe of Chilton, Wis., Gary Mikulich of Kingsford, and Karen Shields of Kingsford. He is also survived by a sister, Betty (Sonny) Pagan of Detroit along with 29 wonderful grandchildren.
Hank was preceded in death by his sisters, Alvina and Mary and his brothers, Joseph, Ludwig and Edward.
He was loved deeply and will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home and 11 a.m. at the American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Hank's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in the cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted the Kingsford Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Verner Simondsen
SAGOLA - Verner H. Simondsen, 85, of Sagola, died, Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Vern was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Sagola, son of the late Carl and Alma (Gustafson) Simondsen. He has been a resident of Sagola his entire life.
Vern married the former Jo Anne Gardepy on Oct.13, 1951, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
He was an area farmer and had worked as a mechanic for International Harvester for many years. He also owned and operated the Amoco Station in Sagola for three years.
Vern was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola. He loved hunting, gardening and watching all kinds of wildlife. He was known as Mr. Fix It in Sagola. Vern loved his family and gave of himself to everyone he knew.
Vern is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; sons, Retired Master Sgt. Bill (Lisa) Simondsen of New Baden, Ill. and Dan (Sally) Simondsen of Sagola; daughters, Cindy (Bill) Magray of Green Bay, Wis., Lori (Jim) Miller of Sagola and Sally (David) Burns of Sagola; a brother, Cliff Simondsen of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Chad Simondsen of New Baden, Amy and Adam Simondsen of Sagola, Tami (Craig) Balfanz of Green Bay, Teri (Tim Sponenburg) Magray of Green Bay, Beth (Jay Richards) Miller of Green Bay, Betsy (Steve Simkovski) Miller of Sagola, Christy (Andy Church) Burns of Gladstone, Jillian (Russell) Steinbrecher of Felch and Elliott Burns of Sagola; nieces, Norma (John) Klucarich of Elcho, Wis., Audrey (Gene) Momont of Iron River, Betty (Ray) Burgess of Spread Eagle, Wis., and Carol (Don) Husslein of Walnut Creek, Calif.; nephews, Royce (Jeanne) Simondsen of Wadsworth, Ill. and Larry (Robin) Gardepy of Clearfield, Utah
He was preceded in death by an infant son, David and a brother, Arnold Simondsen.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in Sagola Township cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Craig Balfanz, Tim Sponenburg, Jay Richards, Steve Simkovski, Andy Church and Rusty Steinbrecher. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Simondsen, Adam, Simondsen and Elliot Burns.

Robert Anderson
AURORA, Wis. - Robert E. Anderson, 92, of Aurora, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Feb. 12, 1913, in Sweden, son of the late Ernest and Mary Anderson. He came to this country with his parents at two weeks of age and has resided in this area his entire life.
Bob married Isabelle Davis in Iron Mountain on Dec. 22, 1939. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1998.
He was a construction foreman and a member of Local Union #76 Cement Workers in Chicago. Bob had worked many construction sites, including the Mackinac Bridge, KI Sawyer Airforce Base, O'Hare Airport, and the Illinois Tollway. He retired from the Deldin Corporation in 1975.
He was a member of the over 60's Club and the Northern Agency on Aging. He was on the advisory council for the Florence County Senior Citizens and one of the founders of the Florence County Senior Citizen Center. Robert loved cars, music, and entertaining his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Robert (Caroline) Anderson of Buffalo Grove, Ill. and his daughter; Jeanette Deldin of Racine, Wis.; five grandchildren, Tom, Pam, and Pat Deldin and John and Jeff Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Tony, Vicki, Sarah, Jacob, and Benjamin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. James Danielson will preside at the services. Mr. Anderson's grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Lane Marie Ehlert
PEMBINE, Wis. - Lane Marie Ehlert, the infant daughter of Cory Ehlert and Samantha Smiley, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
She was born on Feb. 17, 2005, in Iron Mountain.
Lane will be dearly missed by her parents, Cory and Samantha of Pembine; her sisters, Cortney and Kyler Ehlert; her maternal grandparents, Sally Smiley of Amberg, Wis. and Lowell Smiley of Crivitz, Wis.; her paternal grandparents, Kerry (Kris) Ehlert of Pembine and Yvonne Leslie of Iron Mountain; maternal great- grandparents, Marie Werner and Melvin and Rosie Smiley; paternal great-grandmothers, Lorraine Ehlert and Gertrude Leslie; aunts and uncles, Stephanie and Sadie Smiley, Heather (Andrew) Schiefelbein, Codey Ehlert, Kayla Conley and Aaron and Kevin Rowling.
She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfather, Roman Werner and paternal great-grandfathers, William Ehlert and Leslie Leslie.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Fr. Mark McQuesten will officiate.
Burial will be in the Pembine cemetery.

Jeannette Contarini
CANTON, Ohio - Jeannette Contarini, 87, of Canton, formerly of Carrollton, died early Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in Great Trail Care Center in Minerva after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 16, 1918, in Cory, Pa., the daughter of the late Ray and Anna Morrison Gates.
Jeannette was a member of the United Methodist Church in Canton. She was in retail sales having worked many years at Marshall Field & Co. main store in downtown Chicago.
Her husband of 20 years, Ernest, who she married in 1955, preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1975.
Jeannette is survived by many nieces and nephews, James Appel of Carrollton, Glen and LaVonne Appel of Uniontown, Pa., Katheryn Appel Tutor of Aurora, Ill., Edward and Rita Appel of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Robert and Leyda Appel of Falls Church, Va.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur; three sisters, Mildred Appel on Oct. 9, 2000, and Edith and Gladys.
Funeral services were held at the Sweeney-Dodd's Funeral Home in Carrollton with Rev. Jack Lumley officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
