Dorothy J. 'Dody' Kenney

Mrs. Dorothy Jean 'Dody' Kenney, 52, of Port Huron, died Monday, February 18, 2002 in her home.

She was born April 17, 1949 in Port Huron.

She married Richard James Kenney, January 28, 1977 in Port Huron.

Mrs. Kenney was employed with Collins & Aikman for four years. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, loved cooking and was a supporter of The United Way.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Mr. and Mrs. Shaun (Terry) Snyder of Port Huron, three daughters, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph (Shelly) Kilbourne Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Wayne (Stacy) Sharrow, all of Port Huron and Mr. & Mrs. Gregory (Suzanne) Kenney of Fort Gratiot; seven grandchildren, Matthew Snyder, Joseph Kilbourne, III, William Kilbourne, Douglas Hartley, Michael Kenney, Brandon and Karisa Dupuie; her mother and stepfather, Mr. & Mrs. John (Dorothy Jean Snyder) Wojcik; two sisters, Mary Estrada of California and Sharon Plumlee of Port Huron; and a brother, Mr. & Mrs. James (Phyllis) Snyder of Wolf Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Snyder.

Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Wednesday and 9-11 a.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2002 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Reverend Dick Miller will officiate.

Eileen E. Hudson

Eileen E. Hudson, 86, of Port Huron died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born July 9, 1915, in Superior, Wis., and had lived here since 1945.

She married Reubien Hudson. He died Sept. 1, 1962.

She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

She retired in 1974 from the J.C. Penney Co.

She was an avid card player and enjoyed crocheting.

She is survived by son, G. Mark (Gloria) Hudson of Shelby Township; daughter, Joyce C. (Charles) Michaluk of Port Huron; son, Stephen R. (Dorit) Hudson of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Maria, Matt, Monica, Shannon, Marc, Amy and Shelly; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Jobbitt; and brother, Edmund St. Onge and Raymond Pelletier.

Preceded in death by sisters, Lorraine Erickson, Grace Bishop and Irene Garrity.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. David J. Lesniak, pastor, will officiate.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Matt Michaluk, Neil Erickson, Mich-ael Garrity, Tom and Bruce Jobbitt and Tony Plotzke.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Dorothy C. Helewski

Dorothy C. Helewski, 85 of Port Huron Twp., passed away Sunday, March 31, 2002 in Mercy Hospital. She was born to Alex and Katherine Fisher on November 30, 1916 in Grindstone City, MI and married William 'Bill' Helewski on August 11, 1951 in Port Huron. He died on January 26, 1986.

Dorothy was employed at Huron-St. Clair until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, enjoyed gardening, flowers, and cooking, and always had a good sense of humor. He family was most important to her, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by six children Eleanor Abbotts, Colorado Springs, CO, Stan (Eileen) Kosloski, Chesterland, OH, Eileen (Harvey) Drouillard, Fort Gratiot Twp., Randy (Debbie Curtis) Helewski, Fort Gratiot Twp., Karen (Dennis) Sherman, Port Huron Twp., and Susan (Paul Carolan) Piotter, Port Huron; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; six brothers & sisters, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and six other brothers and sisters.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. David Lesniak, Pastor of St. Stephen Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street on Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and in the Church on Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Scriptural Wake service will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Dorothy's grandsons will be her pallbearers.

Betty J. Goss

Betty J. Goss, 78, of Port Huron died Friday, March 29, 2002, in her home following a brief illness.

She was born July 11, 1923, in Pontiac, the daughter of the late Neil and Sylvia Korstange and lived here 41 years. She married Leonard Goss on April 23, 1945, in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Mrs. Goss was a devoted wife and mother. She was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was an avid bowler.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Goss of Port Huron; her sons, Gary L. (Caroline) Goss of White Lake and David L. (Wanda) Goss of Port Huron; her sister, Connie (Ernie) Little of West Branch; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ora Pearson; and a brother, Herbert Korstange, retired United States Marine Corp.

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Water Hospice, 1422 Lyon St., Port Huron.

Arrangements are by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave.

Robert B. Gillette Sr.

Robert B. Gillette Sr., 77, of Port Huron died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Port Huron to the late Fredrick and Alvera Heering Gillett. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Gillette was employed with Mueller Brass Co., prior to his retirement in 1987.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially his grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly and Robert Rutherford of Port Huron and Vicki and Greg Duncan of Fort Gratiot; two sons, Thomas and Diana Gillette of Port Huron and Robert and Pam Gillette of Lexington; their mother, Bea Gillette of Port Huron; nine grandchildren, Lance (Joanne) Gillette, Jason (Kelly) Gillette, Heather (Jason) Nays, Greg (Krystie) Duncan, Chris (Angie) Duncan, Josh Duncan, Nicole Rutherford, Shantel Rutherford and Tyler Gillette; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Allen of Fort Gratiot and Cecilia and Stu Lindke of Venice, Fla.; a brother, Joseph Gillett of Jeddo; a sister-in-law, Tena Gillett of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews; and the caring staff and friends at Marydale Center.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Berger, and a brother, Dr. Lawrence Gillett.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Rev. David Dyer of Croswell Wesleyan Church will officiate.

Military honors will be under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Burial will be in Port Sanilac cemetery.

Mr. Gillette's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to con-sider the Marydale Center, the American Lung Association or American Diabetes.

Emalyn S. "Billie" Gauss

Emalyn S. "Billie" Gauss died Friday, March 22, 2002, at home in the midst of her family after a short illness.

Emalyn was born on July 20, 1914, in Lilesville (Pee Dee) N.C., to Benjamin Kirby Jones I and Emmaline Harris Jones. Emmaline Harris Jones died while giving life to Emalyn.

Emalyn attended Presbyterian Normal School, Lilesville High School and Wingate College.

She married Clarence John Phillip "Slim" Gauss on Aug. 29, 1941. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1986.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Onnie Nelson, Dr. Reginald H. Nelson, Ora Martha Jones and James Edward Jones; a brother, John Paul Jones; and a niece, Martha Grant.

Billie loved bingo and traveling. She was a regular bingo player at the Blue Water and, later, the Village Inn.

She was a lifelong member of Gum Springs Baptist Church, Lilesville, N.C.

Billie enjoyed bowling and bowled in several leagues. She enjoyed many trips to North Carolina and Las Vegas, as well as trips to Hawaii and Alaska.

She is survived by daughters, Susan (Richard L.) Davies of Smiths Creek and Sandra (Allan B.) Currie of Shelby Township; and sons, William Philip (Debra) Gauss of Holland and Phillip Gauss of Lewisville, Texas, and fiancee, Barbara Dickinson of Port Huron.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Andrew (Emily) Currie, Nathan (Heather) Currie, Danielle (Charles) Whitman, John Gauss, Jennifer Gauss and Mathew Gauss; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Currie, and Bennett and Leah Currie; and a sister-in-law, Edna Geppert. She also leaves many dear nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, in Smith Family Funeral Home-South, 1230 Seventh St.

A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The Rev. Robert P. Trask, pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mid City Nutrition Program or the charity of the donor's choice.

David L. Doan

David L. Doan, 63, of Port Huron, died Thursday, March 14, 2002.

He was born Dec. 28, 1938 in Port Huron to the late Isaac and Verna (Wolfe) Doan.

He is survived by two sons, Mr. and Mrs. David W. (Vicki) Doan and Brian Doan; two daughters, Shelly Doan and Mr. and Mrs. Carlo (Dana) Massobrio; two brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie (Janet) Doan and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard (Rose) Doan; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf (Maxine) Kurz and Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Gloria) Kinney; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean Poston.

Private family services will be held.

Arrangements by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Lee G. Cooper

Lee G. Cooper, 86, of North Lakeport, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in St. John Hospital, Detroit from complications after heart surgery.

He was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Leesville, to the late Frank and Edith Cooper.

He married Marilyn Winter on Oct. 12, 1940. They were blessed with 61 years together.

Lee served during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

He retired after 30 years with J.L. Hudson Co., Detroit.

He then became involved in community affairs serving on the Croswell-Lexington School Board and several years as a Burtchville Township trustee.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Port Huron, and enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, bowling, family activities and living on Lake Huron.

Lee is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cooper; his son, Steve (Diane) Cooper of Port Huron; his three daughters, Joyce (Henry) Truett of San Diego, Nancy (Paul) Brummund of Watertown, Wis., and Phyllis Cooper of North Lakeport; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dr. Ralph (Ann) Cooper of Grosse Pointe Farms; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Cooper.

Cremation has taken place.

A service in Lee's memory will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2002, in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Timothy Eichberger, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Burtchville Township cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lee's memory to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
