Jazel Koebke

Hazel L. Koebke, 73, of Port Huron Twp., passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 in Marwood Manor Nursing & Rehab following a short illness.

She was born to William and Annie Blackmer on Oct. 22, 1930 in Imlay City, MI and married Donald M. Koebke on Dec. 5, 1945 in Port Huron.

Hazel made many of her children's clothes when they were growing up. At that time she was also very active with the Girl Scouts. Here love for sewing continued and she also enjoyed crocheting afghans. She spent many hours going to garage sales and she liked working on puzzle books. She especially loved to be with her family and friends, and helping other people.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald M. Koebke; five children, Leona (Richard) Edie of Fort Gratiot Twp., Norma (George) Fanion of Kimball Twp., Ruth Graham of Port Huron, Elaine (Doug) Stapleton of Kimball Twp. and Donald (Mindy Red) Koebke Jr. of Port Huron; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a "special daughter", Sue (Dan) Hopps of Wales Twp.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ted Edie; a great-grandson, Arthur Westley; and nine siblings.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. The Rev. Jeff Wallace, pastor of Wadhams Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be in the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Pallbearers will be James and Arnold Koebke, George Fanion Jr., Al Westley and Bob and Dan Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward McCabe and David Murphy.

Contributions may be made in Hazel's memory to her family.

Joanne Colwell

Joanne Patricia Colwell, 66, of Lakeport, MI and Santa Barbara, CA, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at Mercy Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Joanne was born Dec. 22, 1937 in Ukiah, CA, the daughter of Paul and Lucille (Thomas) Lange.

She was preceded in death by her parents in Santa Barbara and her brother, Edward Lange in San Diego.

Joanne loved her family and friends with a passion and often held lively gatherings at the family home on the shores of Lake Huron- her "Sandcastle". Her infectious smile and love of life brought joy to all she met.

Among many things, Joanne loved sailing, lazy afternoons on the beach, gardening, playing with her grandchildren, painting, science fiction and fact, traveling and her church.

Living life to the fullest, Joanne spent winters in her native childhood home of Santa Barbara.

Having a contagious "spark" Joanne often ignited laughter and joyful conversation. Her favorite motto was to "Pay it Forward", and this she did with grace and style.

She retired from First Federal of Michigan as Vice President of Financial Services in 1992.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Donald Wallace Colwell of Lakeport; her sisters, Dinny (Lange) Jones of Seattle, WA and Robherda Lange of Santa Barbara; her children, Barry Colwell of Santa Barbara, Cheryl (Ric) Moote of Ann Arbor and Dean (Laura) Colwell of Jenison, MI; and her grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelley, Claire and Ellen.

Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. today at the North Lakeport Wesleyan Church, 3871 Harris Road at M-25, Lakeport, MI with Pastor Joseph Braisted officiating.

Visitation will preced the service Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the service time.

Memorials in Joanne's memory may be made to North Lakeport Wesleyan Church.

Arrangements entrusted to Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Juanita Crowl

In loving memory of Juanita P. Crowl, age 82, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2004 at Evangelical Nursing Home in Fort Gratiot.

She was born June 20, 1921 in Hannabel, Mississippi, daughter of the late Burl and Marion Pitts.

She loved sewing, doing puzzles and was an avid Quilter for her family.

Juanita is survived by three children; a son, Joseph A. LePage; two daughters, Mrs. Janice E. (Kenneth) Gerrow and Mrs. Sherri B. (William) Wolfe; three sisters, Burlene Salisbury, Evelyn Squires and Dolly Wummel; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Everett M. Crowl; a daughter, Faye E. Crowl; and three brothers.

Private family services will be at a later date.

Cremation arrangements by Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street, Port Huron.

Leora Crull

Leora B. Crull, age 95, of Goodells died Saturday, September 3, 2005 in Tomlinson's Adult Foster Care Home in Jeddo. She was born November 30, 1909 in Wales Twp. to John and Lula Lashbrook. She married John A. Crull on May 30, 1928 in Goodells. Jack preceded her in death on January 23, 2004 at the age of 100. Leora and Jack were married for over 75 years. They were residents of Port Huron for 40 years, and were members of Lambs United Methodist Church. Leora and Jack had retired to Lakeland, Florida where they were members of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and moved back to Michigan about 3 years ago. During WWII Leora worked at Mueller Brass. She also worked at Fanny Farmer Candy. Leora was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Port Huron. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 25 at 2 PM in the Lambs United Methodist Church with The Rev. Jim Huff officiating. Friends may visit one hour before the service at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Thomas Dingwell

Thomas W. Dingwell, 64 of Port Huron, passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born to Edward and Myrtle Dingwell on August 18, 1939 in Port Huron, attended the Port Huron schools, and graduated from Port Huron High School in 1957.

Tom retired from the Southfield Police Department following 25 years of service. He liked to run and especially enjoyed traveling with the love of his life, Sharon Curtiss.

He is survived by his sister, Lorraine (Stanley) Long, Sarnia, ON; his special best friend, Sharon Curtiss, Port Huron; two nieces and two nephews, Tom (Leslie) Long, Toronto, ON, Brenda (Jim) McCormack, Carlisle, ON, Brian (Yvonne) Long, London, ON, and Amanda Long, Sarnia, ON; and several great nieces and great nephews.

His father, Edward Dingwell passed away in 1983 and his mother, Myrtle (James) Dingwell passed away in 1977.

Cremation and family services have taken place. Interment will be in Lakeside cemetery at a later time.

Contributions may be made in Tom's memory to the St. Clair County Humane Society.

Cremation arrangements were by Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Tanya Kanthak

Tanya J. Kanthak, age 41, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2004. She was born on July 6, 1962 in Jacksonville, Florida

Tanya was a graduate from Port Huron Northern High School and was active with the Goodwill Industries for many years.

She is survived by her father Emil A. Kanthak Sr. of Port Huron; brother Emil A. Kanthak Jr.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her mother Nancy preceded her in death in 1990.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street. Pastor Donald Sperling will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Visiting hours are 12 noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memoiral tributes may be made to the Wishes of the Family.

Eunice Jefferson

Mother Eunice Gertrude Jefferson, age 76, was born Feb. 23, 1927 in Trafford, Alabama to Alfred and Rebecca Jones.

She married Edward Lee Jefferson Sr. on Marsh 30, 1948 after moving to Port Huron.

Mother Eunice retired from American Tape Company.

Mother Eunice was a member of Bethlehem Temple Church for many years, and served many of those years faithfully as Missionary Chairlady.

She was a very kind, generous, and loving person in many ways, and she always had a smile or something funny to say. She will be missed by many.

Mother Eunice found great comfort and joy in listening to her favorite songs "I Want To Be In That Number" and "I'll Let Nothing Separate Me From His Love".

Mother Eunice Gertrude Jefferson departed this earthly realm to be reunited in her heavenly realm on Feb. 9, 2004.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, nine children, Edward Lee "Skip" (Marcia) Jefferson Jr. and Elder Willie (Linda) Jefferson, both of Port Huron, Elder Arthur Bernard Jefferson of Detroit, Nathaniel (Toni) Jefferson of New Jersey, Elder Clinton (Wanda) Jefferson of Muskegon, Savannah (Moses) Green of New Jersey, Carolyn Jefferson of Muskegon, Jean Williams of Lompoc, CA and Maryann (Bobby) Jones of Port Huron; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Sylvester Jones; and sister, Adell Peacock, both of Port Huron; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her close friend, Mother Annette Rogan.

Mother Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Jefferson Sr.; a daughter, Ernestine Jefferson; a son, Fredrick Jefferson; and two sisters, Mary Haynes and Mother Alice Barnes.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 in All Nation Redemption Center, Church St., Port Huron. Mother Eunice's son, Elder Willie Jefferson, Pastor of Solomon's Temple Church, Detroit, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Lakeside cemetery.

Visitation will be in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Ronal Morgan, Hezekiah Miller, Cleophas Lee, Jessie Gunter and Rosevelt Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brother Raymond Akers, Brother Walter Mitchell, Brother Roosevelt Johnson and Brother Jimmy Wade.

Scott Ingram

Scott R. Ingram, 22 of St. Clair, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 of natural causes at River District Hospital.

He was born to Charles and Linda Ingram on June 26, 1981 in Hillcrest, IL, attended St. Mary's Middle School, St. Clair, and graduated from St. Clair High School in 2000.

Scott loved all sports. At age 12, he was the top swimmer in the state for his age. As a freshman he was named "Swimmer of the Year" by the Times Herald, and he still holds two swimming records at St. Clair High School. He earned ten letters during high school in swimming, football, basketball, and baseball, and was named all-area in football and baseball.

He was currently a senior at Saginaw Valley State University majoring in Criminal Justice. He played football there for two years, loved his classes, and carried a 3.9 grade point average last semester. Scott's ambition following college was to join the U.S. Marshal's Service.

Scott enjoyed riding snowmobiles, collecting sports memorabilia, and was an avid University of Michigan sports fan. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, St. Clair.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Linda Ingram, St. Clair; his sister, Michelle Ingram, Port Huron; his niece, Ashley Marie Jones, Port Huron; his aunts and uncles, Dale and Suzanne Buckler, Smiths Creek, MI and Mike and Jean Faust, Melbourne Beach, FL; his aunt, Carol Ingram, Round Lake IL; his cousins, Terry and Tom Ingram, both of Chicago, IL, Mickey Jean (Bryan) Carlin, Marietta, GA, and David Faust, Pittsburgh, PA; and a special friend, Chelsea Neri, Royal Oak, MI.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 in First United Methodist Church, St. Clair. The Rev. Tom Schomaker will officiate.

Burial will follow in Hillside cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street.

Pallbearers will be Bob Rettig, Dan Lindow, Matt Karas, Craig Zaremba, Brandon Avila and Jim Jurzysta.

Contributions may be made in Scott's memory to First United Methodist Church or St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair.

Charles Holzberger

Mr. Charles Anthony Holzberger "Chuck", age 53, of Jeddo, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Chuck was born on July 27, 1950 to Joseph and Rose Holzberger. His father preceded him in death on January 21, 1993.

Chuck married Marlene Raskey on April 4, 1998 in Port Huron.

He worked for his father at Campau Roofing for 18 years, before starting his own business. He owned and operated Charles Holzberger Construction for the last 30 years. He was a very gifted and talented contractor.

Chuck loved life and enjoyed living it to the fullest. He was a very charismatic, kind, and gentle soul, who would try to find humor in every situation. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Chuck enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with, and will be sadly missed. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his mother, Rose and wife, Marlene he is survived by his son, Joseph (Tammy) Holzberger of Port Huron; his daughters, Marshale and Karissa Holzberger of Port Huron; his stepson, Nick Raskey of Jeddo; his three precious grandchildren, Joey and Jenna Holzberger and Kelsey Harp all of Port Huron; his brothers, Patrick (Gerry) Holzberger of Rhode Island and James Holzberger of Kimball; his sister, Virginia (Randy) Arnold of Davidson; his father-in-law, Carl Dominczak of East China; his two sister-in-laws, Donna (Charles) Oliphant of East China and Carol (Shawn) Miller of North Carolina; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews including a special nephew, Ron Holzberger, cousins and dear friends including Ray Boswell and Randy Hillger.

In addition to his father, Joseph he is preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Ronald and William Holzberger.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Stephen Catholic Church, 325 32nd Street, Port Huron. Rev. David Lesniak, pastor of St. Stephen Catholic Church and Rev. Frederick Bodde will officiate.

Visiting hours will be held today from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street.

Pallbearers will be Ron Holzberger, Ron Holzberger III, Charles Oliphant, Ray Boswell, Rick Burt and Nick Raskey.

Memorial tributes may be made to the wishes of the family.

A Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Jowett Funeral Home.
