Marcia Rupert
August 29, 1915 - November 15, 2005

Marcia Rupert, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant and Crooked Lake, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at her home in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Craig Adams officiating. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Friends gathered with the family on Friday, November 18 from 5-7 p.m. and again on Saturday, November 19 from 10 to 11 a.m.
The family suggested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Isabella County Animal Shelter.
Marcia was born on Sunday, August 29, 1915 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Frank and Edith (Gorham) Dusenbury. She attended Michigan State University and graduated from the University of Alabama. While at the University of Alabama, she met the love of her life, Everett Merle (Rupe) Rupert. They were married in 1939 on their way back to school after her summer in Michigan.
Marcia loved golf and enjoyed playing different courses while traveling with Rupe. For years, she and Rupe spent winters both in Florida and cruising the Caribbean with her brother on his boat. She also loved gardening, her flowers, and especially her cottage. In the past years her friends and dogs brought her great joy, especially Sally, her most recent dog. She enjoyed being outside as much as possible. Marcia volunteered in the Admissions Office of Central Michigan Community Hospital. She was an Honorary Member of the Tourist Club, which she always enjoyed.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Alexander Blair Dusenbury, of North Carolina, and her husband, Everett Merle Rupert. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Terry) Stacy of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and her son, Robert Mark (Sharon) Rupert, of Dillon, Colorado. She also leaves three grandchildren: Tracie Rupert, Erin Rupert, and Andrew Stacy.

Marlene Border
June 14, 1950 - November 9, 2005

Marlene Border, age 55, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on November 9, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Interment followed at Kelly cemetery, Midland County, Michigan.
Friends gathered with the family on Sunday, November 13, 2005 from 2-4 and 5-8 at Helms Funeral Home and again on Monday from 10 - 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions were suggested to the Morey Cancer Center.
Marlene was born on Wednesday, June 14, 1950 the daughter of Frank and Iva (Denton) Kriesche. She was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area and owned Borders Corner Store.
Marlene is survived by her children: Sherrie Border and Kendra (Doug) Paulson; two grandchildren Hailey and Lucas Paulson; brothers: Dennis (Karen) Kriesche, Donald Kriesche, and Douglas (Judy) Kriesche; a sister Beverly Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Cindy

Donna Jean (Sheppard) Merrill
May 13, 1930 - November 10, 2005

Donna Jean (Sheppard) Merrill of Mount Pleasant, Michigan died Thursday, November 10, 2005 at her home after battling a long-term illness. A life-time resident of Mount Pleasant, she was 75.
A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Helms Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Friends called at The Funeral Home Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Memorials to Hospice of Central Michigan were suggested by the family.
Mrs. Merrill was born May 13, 1930 in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Collins) Sheppard. She married Glen W. Bud Merrill on January 6, 1951 in Mount Pleasant.
She was a homemaker and was employed by several restaurants as a cook where she was well known for her great tasting soups. Mrs. Merrill was a member of the Mount Pleasant Women of the Moose Lodge 195, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 110.
She is survived by her four children: Glen W. Bill (Susan) Merrill, Jr. of Rockford, MI; Patricia Merrill of Mancelona, MI; Linda Merrill Healy of Belmont, NY; and, Paulette Merrill of Mount Pleasant, MI. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Matthew (Emily) Merrill of Charlotte, NC; Rebecca Merrill of Richmond, VA; and, Carissa Healy of Belmont, NY; one sister, Mary Huber; three brothers: Joseph (Rita) Sheppard, Jack (Louise) Sheppard, James (Lois) Sheppard; and two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Sheppard, and Shirley Sheppard. She also left behind many beloved nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Mrs. Merrill was predeceased by her husband, Bud; and brothers; Maurice Sheppard, and William Sheppard.

Walter Nolan Fick, Jr.
March 20, 1925 - November 9, 2005

Walter Nolan Fick, Jr., age 80, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on November 9, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.
The funeral service took place on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Helms Funeral Home. Interment was at Birch Run Township cemetery, Birch Run, Michigan. Friends gathered with the family on Friday November 11, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. at Helms Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions were suggested to The American Lung Association and The Community Cancer Services. Envelopes were available at the Funeral Home.
Walter was born on Friday, March 20, 1925 in Shields, Michigan, the son of Walter N. and Allte (Kellogg) Fick.
He married Margaret A. Donald on October 30, 1982 in Barryton, Michigan. He was a resident of the Mt. Pleasant area for the past twenty-three years. Walter was an Electrical Engineer for Saginaw Steering Gear who retired in October of 1976. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 195. He served with the U.S. Marines during WWII.
Walter is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons: Ronald N. Fick, Thomas (Sherry) Fick, and Donald Fick; daughters: Deborah (Jerry) Fallon, and Beth Adado; step-son Edward (Deborah) Jackson; step-daughter, Bernita (John) Cuthbert; sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Clarence and a sister, Marie.

Bernice Viola Hankins
March 25, 1909 - November 9, 2005

Bernice Viola Hankins, age 96, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 7 p.m. from Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton of Hospice of Central Michigan officiating. Interment followed at Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.
Friends gathered with the family on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at Helms Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan.
Bernice was born on Thursday March 25, 1909 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan the daughter of Lewis and Bertha (Freese) Pease. She married Forrest Hankins on November 25, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She was a lifetime resident of the Mt. Pleasant area. Bernice was a homemaker who loved fishing, eating out and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime bowler and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996.
Bernice is survived by her daughters: Marlene Koons and Christine (Doug) Sims both of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; her son Glen (Aimee) Hankins of Mission, Texas, a sister Dorothy Finney, sixteen grandchildren, fifty-one great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest on September 3, 1982, a son Walter, a daughter Betty, two sons-in-law: Jerry Koons, and Donald Stanton; and three sisters: Helen, Cora, and Mary.

Gabriel Gabe M. Dirk
June 3, 1926 - November 7, 2005

Gabriel Gabe M. Dirk, age 79, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Gabe was born on Thursday, June 3, 1926 in Wade, Norht Dakota, the son of Magnus and Marie (Steirt) Dirk. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margot (Waltz) Dirk. On June 4, 1988, he married Dorothea J. (Cook) Dirk. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2003.
Gabe owned and operated his own heating and air conditioning company. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagles Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from October 20, 1950 until his discharge as a Corporal on February 25, 1953. He was a resident of Mt. Pleasant since 1983, moving from Saginaw.
Survivors include his children, William Edward and Loria Dirk of Saginaw, Michigan, and Mary Catherine Dirk of Porter, Texas; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Anna Walker of Steel, North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his two wives; both parents; six brothers: Vitlalis, Joseph, Engelhart, Adolf, Steve; two sisters: Monica Swichlich, and Bernadet Dirk.
Funeral services were held on Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Helms Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. Interment followed the service at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

Kathryn B. Lutz
December 5, 1926 - October 30, 2005

Kathryn B. Lutz, 78, of Shepherd, Michigan passed away at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant,
Sunday, October 30, 2005
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 11 a.m. at the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with Pastor James Reamsma Officiating. Cremation will take place after the funeral service, with burial of the cremated remains in the family lot in Plainfield cemetery, Plainfield, Michigan.
Friends may gather with the family on Tuesday, November 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home. Memorial contributions have been suggested by the family to Ganiard Elementary School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Kathryn was born on Sunday, December 5, 1926 in Michigan the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Warden) Bollinger.
Kathryn was an elementary school teacher for the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools teaching for many years at Ganiard School. She was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. As member of Art Reach, she enjoyed quilting, needle work, painting on eggs, and oil painting.
Survivors include her son and his wife: Jeff and Heather Lutz of Edmore; two grandchildren: Kathryn and Natalie Lutz; a brother: Alger and Jane Bollinger of Gregory, Michigan; and a sister: Patricia and Ray Fitzgerald of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Florence Vorce
January 5, 1920 - October 29, 2005

Florence Vorce, 80, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away Saturday, October 29, 2005
Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 3, 2005 11 a.m. at Riverside cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan with Deacon Larry Fussman Officiating with burial following at Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Friends gathered with the family on Thursday, November 3 from 10-11 a.m. at the Memorial Gardens cemetery Chapel. Memorial contributions were suggested to family. Envelopes were available at the Helms Funeral Home.
Florence was born on Monday, January 5, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Nora (Zajac) Zygmunt.
Florence married Frank Vorce. She was a homemaker and worked for Holly Carburetor.
She is survived by a daughter: Helen (Ernie) Yarbrough of Fort Collins, Colorado; brothers: Joe Zygmunt and Al Zygmunt; sisters: Mary Trussell and Gloria Zygmunt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on January 11, 1999, a daughter Patricia and a son Andrew.

Betty May Winter Sims
May 11, 1936 - October 23, 2005

Betty May Winter Sims, 69, of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor James Reamsma of the Oil City Assembly of God officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.
Friends gathered with the family on Wednesday, October 26 from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The family suggested memorial contributions be made to Jackie Rhoade for medical assistance programs. Envelopes were available at the funeral home. Betty was born on Monday, May 11, 1936 in Kenora, Ontario, Canada the daughter of Leeland and Mabel (King) Winter. She was a resident of Saginaw for the past 20 years. Betty was a Licensed Practical Nurse, and worked for Jackie Rhoade in a private health care home. She enjoyed flower gardening.
Survivors include her brother, Jim and Ramona Winter of Williams, California and a sister, Muriel and Fred Zollner of East Tawas, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
