Elmer E. Kyser
January 18, 1918 - May 6, 2004

Elmer E. Kyser, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility in Mt. Pleasant. Elmer was born on January 18, 1918 in Crawford, Michigan, the son of David and Gertrude (Buxton) Kyser. He married Maxine Grewett on January 27, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant.
Elmer was employed as a machine operator for DOW Chemical for 27 1/2 years. He was a member of the Meijer Coffee Club, and enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for the Commission on Aging and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and gardening. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Corporal in the 318th Infantry Regiment in the 80th Division in Europe. He received a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge among others.
Survivors include his wife Maxine, a daughter Carlene Hood of Mt. Pleasant, 2 sons, David and Rose Kalb of Idaho, and Billy Kyser of Idaho. 8 grandchildren: Jennifer, Nathan, Jonathan, Kendra, David, Terrae, Billy, and Brent. Also 5 great grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Roseanna, Jasmine, and Mason. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Kenneth, Norman, and Floyd, and a sister, Dorothy York.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 10 at 2 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Max Rauschenberger officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Commission on Aging for Meals on Wheels or to the Isabella Baptist Church.

Jack B. Doremire
December 22, 1930 - April 25, 2004

Jack B. Doremire, age 73, of Weidman, Michigan, died peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Sunday, April 25, 2004. Jack was born on December 22, 1930 in Gaylord, Michigan, the son of Clayton and Jane Justice Doremire.
Jack graduated from Midland High School and served as a Marine in the Korean Conflict. He attended Michigan Tech and went on to Michigan State University graduating with a degree in Engineering. Jack was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant community where he owned and operated One Hour Martinizing and Doremire Construction Company for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He served on the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. Jack loved the outdoors. His favorite hobbies were horseback riding, hunting, swimming, walking, and fishing in Mexico. Jack had many friends and loved ones and devoted much of his time and energy to helping others.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Joy Doremire of Weidman; two daughters, Cindy and Bill Walz and Kathy and Scott Hoffman; two sisters, Janet Reider and Linda Doremire Spence; a brother, Joseph (Therese) Clayton Doremire; step children, Gary and Colleen McConnell, Diane and Tom Anderman, and Greg McConnell; grandchildren, Francesca Jane Walz, Helen Elizabeth Hoffman, and Jack Scott Hoffman; step grandchildren, Ian McConnell, Colin McConnell, Tana McConnell, Thomas Anderman, and Maegan Anderman; and many other nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Margaret Buckler; and two nephews
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 26, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. from the Mt. Pleasant Community Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Scott McKee officiating. Interment took place on Thursday, April 27, 2004 at the Family Burial Plot at Sweetwater Ranch in Weidman, Michigan. Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan or the Community Cancer Services for Research.

Helen E. Walker
November 26, 1916 - April 20, 2004

Helen E. Walker, age 87, of Farwell, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Northwoods Nursing Center, Farwell, Michigan after a long illness. Helen was born on November 26, 1916 in Rosebush, Michigan, the daughter Asa Joseph and Flossie (Mogg) Prout. On December 1, 1938, she married William Jay Walker in Mt. Pleasant. Helen and her husband were lifetime area residents, living in Mt. Pleasant, Barryton, and Sears, before moving to Farwell in 1967.
Helen graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1935 and then went on to the Cosmetology College in Alma. Helen worked as a painter for 12 years at Evart Products in Evart and 12 years at Wolverine Shoe Company in Big Rapids. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed traveling and being with her husband and family, fishing and hunting, playing cards, cooking for her family, and attending church at Pine Grove Church in Reed City.
Survivors include her husband, William Jay Walker of Farwell; two sons, William J. and Sue Walker of Mt. Pleasant and James L. Walker of Sears and special friend, Janice of Paris; four grandchildren, Darrel and Shelly Walker of Mt. Pleasant, Karla and Gene Gorczyca of Holland, Brenda and Sergeo Osterberg of Rockford, and Todd and Jennifer Walker of Sparta; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Jay Walker; and a sister, Tweedie West and Tweedies husband, Bernard.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Ivan Odor of the First Church of Christ officiating. Interment followed at Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Community Cancer Services or the Mid-Michigan Visiting Nurses.

Ronald Burdett Wing
May 19, 1924 - April 15, 2004

Ronald Burdett Wing, age 79, of Mesick, Michigan, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in Cadillac, Michigan.
Ron was born on May 19, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Floyd and Pruda (Endress) Wing. He was married to Lillian until her death in 1991. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of UAW Local 668, working for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Saginaw.
Ron is survived by his son, Ron and his wife Margaret of Mesick, MI; a son in law Bob Miller of Detroit; grandchildren: Wendy (Steven) Smith, Renee (David) Gregory, Ronald Christopher Wing, Bobby Miller, Ronnie A. Miller, Kenny (Tammy) Miller, Alex Miller, and Tara Inches; great grandchildren: Whitney, Caitlyn, Matthew, Michael, Jessica, Christian, Amanda, Kelsey, Kala, Taylor, Christ, and Michael; and a sister, Ruby Van Sicklen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, a daughter and a son.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 19, 2004 from the Helms Funeral Home with Pastor Samuel Reith of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Interment followed in Denver Township cemetery, Isabella County. Memorial contributions were suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Evelyn G. Emling
May 26, 1926 - April 14, 2004

Evelyn G. Emling, age 77, of Jackson, Michigan formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Ganton Countryside Care Center in Jackson.
Evelyn was born May 26, 1926 in Jackson, the daughter of Harry and Bertha Chilson Perry. On June 21, 1947, she and Durell Emling were married in Traverse City, Michigan. Evelyn was a resident of Mt. Pleasant from 1955 to 1999 when she moved to Jackson. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, TOPS, and several bridge clubs.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Debbie and Ron Mumford of Jackson, Trudy and Rick Fox of West Bloomfield, and Dennis and Val Emling of Beal City; six grandchildren, Heather Furness, Sarah Fox, Jason Mumford, Ryan Mumford, Tyler Emling, and Courtney Emling; a brother, Hank Perry of Manistee; and two sisters, Marian Chase of Traverse City and Louise McKenzie of Longboat Key, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Durell in 1975; and a brother, George Perry.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Samuel Reith officiating. Interment followed at Memorial Gardens in Mt. Pleasant.
Memorial contributions were suggested to the Alzheimers Association.

Edith Mary Jennings
April 12, 1914 - April 15, 2004

Edith M. Jennings, age 90, of Concord, NH, and Mt. Pleasant, MI, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Margarets Meadows near Mt. Pleasant.
Edith was born on April 12, 1914 in Wilmot, NH, to Clarence and Tammy (Wheeler) Prescott and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Charles and Gertie Heath. She graduated from Proctor Academy in 1932 and from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She married William Jennings on January 4, 1937. Edith worked as a registered nurse and retired as a nursing supervisor from the New Hampshire State Hospital in 1981. Edith was a member of St. Marys University Parish in Mt. Pleasant and St. Peters Church of Concord, NH.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Eileen Jennings, of Mt. Pleasant, MI, a brother, Albert (Mary) Prescott of Concord, and many nieces and nephews, including Tamy Prescott, George (Virginia) Lister, Margaret (Charles) Merrigan, Susan (Peter) Smilikis, Tamar (Fred) Gignac, James (Christ) Lister, Robert Lister, Warren (Sandra) Prescott.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, William, her brother Walter Prescott and her parents.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m. from the St. Marys University Parish. A Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. from St. Peters Catholic Church in Concord, New Hampshire. Interment took place in Calvary cemetery, Concord. Memorial contributions were suggested to the Isabella County Commission on Aging.

Duane Dewey Robert Pelcher, Jr.
April 12, 1969 - April 13, 2004

Duane Dewey Robert Pelcher, Jr. age 35, of Mt. Pleasant, died April 13, 2004 as a result of an automobile accident. Dewey was born on April 12, 1969 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Duane Pelcher, Sr. and the late Trudy Sanders.
Dewey loved spending time with his daughters, riding bikes, walking, and going to Pow Wows. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
Dewey is survived by his father, Duane Pelcher, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant; step-mom, Bonnie Pelcher; two daughters, Mariah Pelcher and Rochelle Wolf both of Mt. Pleasant; foster mom, Margaret Pelcher; grandfather, John Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers, Ron Pelcher, Willie Pelcher, and Troy Pelcher and a sister, Marla Pelcher, all of Mt. Pleasant; a step brother, Carlos Chico Sanders of Mt. Pleasant; and a step sister, Marissa Marin of Grand Rapids; a special friend, Katherine Cherry of Mt. Pleasant; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Trudy Sanders; a sister, Rhonda Pelcher; a step brother, Javier Sanders; his grandmothers, Nellie Jackson and Georgiana Sanders; and his grandfathers, William Sanders, Sr., and Tooley Pelcher.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 2:00 PM from the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland cemetery in Rosebush. Memorial contributions may be made to Deweys daughters.

Myrtle F. Garrett
August 22, 1924 - April 4, 2004

Myrtle F. Garrett, age 79, of Manton, Michigan, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac, Michigan. Myrtle was born August 22, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Albert Maxon and Luella (Hall) Maxon Brittan.
Myrtle was a Licensed Practical Nurse for the State of Michigan working at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center for 30 years. She enjoyed fishing and camping, traveling to Hawaii, and reading Harlequin Romance novels.
Survivors include her sons, Tom and Sherri Pyrett of Weidman and Chet and Donna Moore of Cassopolis, MI; 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Florence Jeffrey and Esther Bardaville, both of Mt. Pleasant. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Junior Maxon and Norval Maxon, and 2 sisters, Geraldine Walton and Ruth Grove.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 3 p.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Sister Andre Kravec of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Following cremation, interment of the cremated remains will take place in Broomfield Township cemetery, Isabella County. Memorial contributions were suggested to the American Heart Association.

Dorothy Mae Carney
January 30, 1925 - March 20, 2004

Dorothy Mae Carney, age 79, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at her home in Mt. Pleasant. Dorothy was born on January 30, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Lawrence and Flossie (Kappler) Davis. On February 28, 1941, she married William L. Carney. William preceded Dorothy in death on July 24, 1993. For most of her life, Dorothy was a home maker. During WWII, she worked for Ferro Manufacturing, and later for Sears on a part time basis. She was a member of the Central Michigan Assembly of God.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Nora Downing of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy Coyle of Harrison, Thomas and Prudy Carney of Shepherd, Jim and Marcy Carney of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter in law, Diane Carney of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren: Tracey Sallee, Tammy and Tim Brookens, Troy Opdycke, Kelly and Randy Weidner, Heather and Jim Lafever, Matt and Holly Carney, Jimmy Carney, Benny Carney, Doug and Dee Carney, and Kerri and Don Speerstra; 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Deloris and Howard Pohl of Mt. Pleasant, Donna and Dale Smalley of Mt. Pleasant, and Darlene and John Topp of Rockford, MI; a sister in law Mary Jo. Pearsall of Trenton, NJ, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L., a son William L, a granddaughter, Trica Marie Carney, and both parents.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Jeff Cromwell of the Central Michigan Assembly of God officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, beside her husband, William. Memorial contributions were suggested the Senior Citizens Commission on Aging, or Hospice of Central Michigan.

James Allen Harris
July 2, 1912 - March 20, 2004

James Allen Harris, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at his home in Mt. Pleasant. Jim was born on July 2, 1912, in Isabella County, Michigan, the son of James and Myrtle (Allen) Harris. He married for former Alice J. Lyon on September 3, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant. Alice preceded him in death on October 24, 1998.
Jim was a plumber and pipe fitter for Union Local 85. He did a great deal of work at DOW, Central Michigan University, and the Alma Refinery. He was a member of the First Church of Christ and the Wabon Masonic Lodge F&AM. He enjoyed the outdoors, including deer hunting, lawn work, and his country home on Wildwood Drive. James was very meticulous about his tools and equipment, and enjoyed visiting with many friends and neighbors.
Survivors include one son, Robert (Deanna) Harris of Holton, MI two daughters Sue Long of DeWitt, MI, Jane Harris of Mt. Pleasant, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many special friends & neighbors.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Helms Funeral Home with Mr. Ivan Odor officiating. Interment followed in Riverside cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, where James was interned beside his wife Alice. Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice of Central Michigan.

Michael Clifford Elliott, Jr.
June 27, 1970 - March 16, 2004

Michael Clifford Cliff Elliott, Jr., age 33, of Beaverton, Michigan, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Mid Michigan Health Center in Midland. Cliff was born June 27, 1970 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Michael C. and Susetta (Highley) Elliott, Sr. He was a lifetime resident of the area. On November 5, 1999, he married Lahnaya Banks in Midland, Michigan.
Cliff worked as the Kitchen Supervisor at the Texan Restaurant in Midland. He was a member of the Destiny Christian Ministries and sang on the Praise and Worship Team. Cliff loved his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping at his cabin.
Cliff is survived by his wife, Lahnaya Elliott of Beaverton; six children, Michael, Courtney, Austin, Emma, Noah, and Samuel all of Beaverton; a special niece, Tara Richardson of Mt. Pleasant; his parents, Michael and Susetta Elliott, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant; his grandmothers, Ethel Highley of Mt. Pleasant and Helen Parker of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister, Susie Elliott of Mt. Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Highley and Ray and Virginia Elliott; an uncle, Wayne Elliott; an aunt, Judy Highley; and a cousin, Brooke.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 19, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. from Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Chuck Swarthout, Rob White, and Arthur Fritz officiating. Cremation took place after the services. Memorial contributions were suggested to the family.
