JAMIE M. JANES
Jamie M. Janes, 18, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. He was a life long resident of Marlette.
He was born November 24, 1988 in Flint, Michigan, son to Monica Janes.

He was a 2007 graduate of Marlette High School.

He was on delayed entry to the U.S. Marine Corp.

He enjoyed hunting, sports, doing construction work and, most of all, his family.

He is survived by his mother, Monica Janes of Harbor Springs; God parents, Tim and Tammy Kipp Sr. of Yale, Michigan; grandparents, Lanny and Vivian Janes of Decker; great-grandmother, Leitha Janes of Aberdeen, S.D.; sister, Jessica Janes of Mayville; three aunts, Michelle and Wade Wacek of Redwood Falls, MN, Melissa and Frank Puzio of Harbor Springs and Marjorie and Mike Kirkpatrick of Sandusky; special dad, Donald and Sondra Brown of Port Huron; special friends, Stephanie Potter of Harbor Springs and Woody Stockton of Otisville, and several cousins. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Fr. Richard Bokinskie officiating. Burial was in St. Elizabeth Catholic cemetery in Marlette.

Casket bearers were T.J. Kipp, Woody Stockton, Roman Armstrong, Alan Hoppe, Jericho Hayward and A.J. Pompos. Honorary Casket Bearers were Staff Sergeant Richard Sloan, Andrew Rogers and several cousins.

Memorials may be donated to the Gift of Life or the family.

NATALIE TARAPATA ROOT
Natalie Tarapata Root of Grand Rapids died peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2007.
Born near Marlette, Michigan, her primary interest in life was the homemaking for and caretaking of her family. In addition, she was an innovative elementary school teacher, a successful realtor, and a seamstress and costume designer for Disney and Universal Studios as well as for her children. In her younger years, she performed as a vocalist with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra in Chicago for live radio broadcasts. Upon retirement, she performed as an “extra’ in movies and films in Orlando, Florida.

She cultivated family traditions and was an outstanding cook. Her quiet and supportive ways provided the wing beneath the wings of family members. Her gift of hospitality was enjoyed by family and friends. She was a music major at Western Michigan University and enjoyed many different styles of music from Dixieland to opera. She was also a nature lover and communicated with God through her love of nature.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Root. She is survived by children Patricia Root, Rebecca Root Davis, Dan and Teresa Root, and Kathy (Root) and Mark Zauss; grandchildren, Betsy and Caroline Davis and Will, Daniel and Madeline Root.

The family held a private memorial service on June 21, 2007. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make donations to the William and Natalie Root Scholarship for the All-State Program at Interlochen. Donation may be sent to 5th Third Bank, 3785 Plainfield Ave. NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 48505 Arrangements by Zaagman Memorial Chapel, Grand Rapids.

ROB (METZER) SCHMITT
Rob (Metzer) Schmitt, 28, of Marlette, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Detroit, Michigan.
He was born September 10, 1978, son to Leslie (Metzer) Jones and Fredrick Schmitt.

He was a 1997 graduate of Marlette High School.

He attended Western Michigan University and Davenport University.

He enjoyed basketball, golf, sports and, most of all, his family.

He is survived by his mother, Leslie and Mike Metzer of Marlette; father, Fredrick and Michelle Schmitt of Port Austin, MI.; three sisters, Kristen Metzer of Marlette, Randi Schmitt of Port Austin and Melissa and Bobby McCombs of Clifford; two brothers, Brad and Emily Metzer of Marlette and Chad and Angie Metzer of Tampa, Fl; grandmothers, Rayma McCoy of Tucson, AZ., Esther Metzer of Marlette and Lucille Schmitt of Marlette, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Lawrence Metzer, Charles Jones, and Robert Schmitt, and aunt, Lori Barns.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brown City, with Rev. Joyce Johnston officiating. Burial was in the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be donated to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the family. Casket bearers were Chad Metzer, Brad Metzer, Jim Barnes, Dustin Jones, Derek Jones and Mark Lefler.

GLORIA DESJARDINS
Gloria DesJardins, 69, of Bay Village, Ohio, formerly of Benton Harbor, MI., passed away Sunday June 17th at St. John West Shore Hospital in Ohio.
She was born October 8, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Garnetta (Ploof) Zorn. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1955 then received her Bachelors in Education from Central Michigan University and her Masters of Art from Western Michigan University. She was a Master Gardner, very passionate about teaching, nature, golf, family, the internet and her faith. She was a member of St. Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, MI. and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Westlake, OH.

She is survived by one son, Arthur L. DesJardins of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Lisa D. Erway of Avon Lake, OH and Lynn M. (Ken) Schafer of Paw Paw, MI; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Elizabeth Erway and Elena, Erica and Anaka Schafer; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Erway. Also surviving are one brother, Carl (Doreen) Zorn of Attica; two sisters, Marilyn (David) Pattyn of Attica and Janet (Leonard) Richey of Panama City Beach, FL and the father of her children Richard DesJardins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Marvin Zorn and one grandson, Nathan Schafer.

Funeral services were Friday, June 22 at 11am at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont with Rev. Kurt Lambert of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Westland officiating. Burial was made in West Berlin cemetery.

JUNE L. MORRISON
June L. Morrison, 76, of Marlette, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center - Cooper in Saginaw, Michigan.
She had lived in Marlette the past 25 years and was previously from the Fostoria area.

She was born June 14, 1931 in Mayville, Michigan, daughter to the late Marion and Gertrude (Scheloski) Bacon.

She graduated from Mayville High School and went on to County Norman College where she received her teaching certificate.

She taught school for many years and also worked as a social worker in the area. She is survived by her sister, Jean and Barry Gilcrest of Calabasas, CA; five nieces, Heather and Scott Hobart of Hammers Ville, OH, Dana and Don Roth of Caro, MI, Carol and Gary Owens of Imlay City, MI, Joanne Baker of Boise, ID, and Doris and Gil Sainz of Corona, CA; four nephews, Paul Byrnes of Sault Ste Marie, MI, Robert and Bonnie Bader of Caro, MI, Ron and Darlene Bacon of Williams, IN and Terry Bacon of Bedford, IN, and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmy and Bob Bacon and sisters, Evelyn Bader and Joyce Byrnes.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Rev. Robert Bader officiating.

Burial was in the Rich Twp. cemetery in Mayville, Michigan.

Memorials may be given to the family.

DAVID JENSEN
David Jensen, 65, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at his home in Marlette. He had lived in Marlette the past 10 years and was previously from the Lapeer area.
He was born July 14, 1941 in Tacoma, WA., son to the late Wesley and Ethel (Cunningham) Jensen.

He married Denise Mather on December 29, 1977 in Oceanside, CA.

He is survived by his wife, Denise; two daughters, Billie Jo Ciaraldi and Mitchell Johnson of Lapeer and Alicia Jensen of Oxford; three grandchildren, Austin, Jordan and Logan, and special friends Kim and Jan Nickens of Marlette. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mayfield Township Hall, Lapeer.

Memorials may be given to the donation of your choice.

LEEROY KNOX
LeeRoy Knox, 69, life long resident of Marlette, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007 at the Marlette Regional Hospital Hospice Residence.
He was born January 18, 1938 in Marlette, son to the late Clifford and Grace (Bowser) Knox Sr.

He married Nancy Davies on December 24, 1959 in Marlette.

He did upholstery work in the Marlette area for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, three sons, Bill and Beth Knox of Marlette, Duane and Lourene Knox of Kingston and Jerry and Dianne Knox of Brown City; a daughter, Wendy and Jim Chappel of Cass City; four brothers, Alfred and Lahoma Knox of Flint, Cliff and Rose Knox of Brown City, Larry and Gladys Knox of Brown City and Tom and Diane Knox of Brown City; a sister, Ruth and Gary Hazelwood of Marlette, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dean and Bob Knox; sister, Winnie Chappel and brother-in-law, Gean Chappel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette, with Eric Foster officiating.

Cremation will follow the service at the Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City. Memorials may be donated to the United Hospice Service.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1 pm to 9 pm at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette.

GARY L. BULGRIEN
Gary L. Bulgrien, 57, of Snover passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007, in Cleveland Ohio.
He was born November 9, 1949 in Sandusky, Michigan to the late Roy and Inez (Heronemus) Bulgrien.

He was married to Kayleen S. Dorland on December 15, 1973 in Snover, Michigan. He was a self employed electrician.

He is survived by his wife, Kayleen Bulgrien; two daughters, Rebekah Bulgrien of Snover and Charity Bulgrien of Redford; one granddaughter, Lydia; one brother, Garth (Kathy) Bulgien of Pennsylvania; a sister, Janet (Russell) Smith, of Decker and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage First United Methodist Church, Snover with Pastor Dave Dollinger, of Snover and Pastor Roger Cleeton, of Flint officiating.

Burial was in Moore Township cemetery, Snover.

Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp, Gideon’s and Faith Free Methodist Church.
