RUTH CONRAD
Ruth Conrad, age 75, of Apple Road in Osceola, was released into heaven's glories on January 4, 2002 after a brief illness at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Mishawaka.
Mrs. Conrad was born August 6, 1926 to Peter Franklin and Margaret Eleanor (Jackson) D'Arcy in Kingston, MI.

On August 26, 1950 she married Donald L. Conrad of Goshen, IN in Marlette, MI who survives.

Also surviving are 3 sons: Greg Conrad (Kathie), Joe Conrad (Mona), Chris (Guy) Fisher all of Osceola; sister: Lois Brenneman of Mishawaka, two sister-in-laws: LeEtta (John) D'Arcy of Kingston, MI and Betty (Lee) Caudell of Davison, MI; 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Laura, Kyle, Alyssa, Austin, Mallory, Danielle Conrad, and Aaron, Bryce, and Megan Fisher; and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and cousins.

Preceding in death were her parents and brothes John and Lee D'Arcy, and sister Eleanor D'Arcy.

Services were conducted at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola at 1 pm on Tuesday, January 8 with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Conrad graduated from Marlette High School in Marlette, MI in 1945 and from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN with a BA in Elementary Education in 1971. She served with her husband at four Missionary Church pastorates prior to his teaching career of thirty-five years at Bethel College. For many years she was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary and in charge of their well-known annual Arts and Crafts show.

Mrs. Conrad was a active member of St. Mark Missionary Church since 1964. She taught Sunday School, directed many Vacation Bible Schools, sang in the choir, served as music coordinator, prayer chain coordinator, funeral dinner coordinator, and the Helping Hands ministry, and baby shower coordinator. She also served as a deaconess, board member and a charter trustee for Missionary Church Archives and Historical Collection. She served as the Director and taught the Chattering Chipmunk Nursery School for 8 1/2 years and was a substitute teacher in PHM schools for many years. She also served as member of the Hubbard Hill Retirement Home Auxiliary. She and her husband were honored by Bethel College with the inaugural "Distinguished Parents" award in 1997.

She lived for others and was known for her love of her family and the meals she cooked for all 21 of them every Sunday. She will be greatly missed by many people for her servant heart, but by none more than her loving family.

Memorial donations may be made to Don and Ruth Conrad Scholarship Fund at Bethel College, or St. Mark Missionary Church.

JEANE KIRK AYERS
Jeane Kirk Ayers passed away October 5, 2001 in Plymouth, Michigan.
She was born on September 2, 1922 in Marlette, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Kirk.

She graduated from Marlette High School in the Class of 1939.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynn and Ed Gruenwald and Kay and Tom Sherman; three grandsons, Ed and wife Laura Gruenwald, Dan Gruenwald and Carrie and J. J. Hagg and Tim Sherman; one great-granddaughter, Emily Gruenwald; and one sister, Kaye Tyrell of Marlette.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Bernice Dale.

RUBY FISCHER
Ruby Fischer, 75, of Snover, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2001 at her home in Snover, MI.
She was born on March 29, 1926 in Sandusky, the daughter of the late Daniel and Anna (Schultz) Jurn. She was a life long area resident, a member of the Snover Heritage United Methodist Church, the Upstreamers Club, the Elmer School Club and a past member of the Mother's Club.

She married Lee Fischer on January 17, 1948 in Moore Township at her parent's home.

Survivors include her husband, Lee; two daughters, Carol and Gregg Goodrich of Marlette and Diane and Douglas Deremer of California; and a son, Dale and Carol Fischer of Snover.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Colon Jurn.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 15, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heritage United Methodist Church, Snover with Rev. Daniel Fleming officiating. Burial was in the Moore Township cemetery in Snover.

Casketbearers included Jonathan Fischer, Nicholas Fischer, Daniel Goodrich, Daniel Jurn, Earl Fischer and James Fischer.

Memorials may be made to the Heritage United Methodist Church or United Hospice.

Arrangements by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette.

ALEXANDER TORZ
Alexander Torz, 89, of Harrisville, formerly of Marlette, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2001 in Harrisville, MI.
He was born on September 5, 1912 in Silver Sprigns, Colorado, the son of the late John and Mary (Poppe) Torz.

He married Clara Calkins on April 23, 1932 in Sandusky, MI. She preceded him in death on January 20, 1997.

He lived in the Marlette area for many years and then moved to the Detroit area where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Survivors include a son, Richard Torz of Comstock Park, MI.; two daughters, Sally and Ted Holmes of Harrisville and Susan and James Baiz of Clarkston, MI.; a sister, Mary Swartz of Utica, MI; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Barbara Torz; a granddaughter, Patricia; and three brothers, John, Louie and Peter.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 16, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette with Rev. Kenneth Parker officiating. Burial was in West Burlington cemetery in Silverwood.

Casketbearers were Robert Torz, Ronald Whitlock, Kevin Coughlin, Dennis Dawes, Richard Torz Jr., and Blake Andrews.

Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

MARY E. WARFORD
Mary E. Warford, 54, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2001 at Port Huron Mercy Hospital.
She lived in Port Huron, Michigan for three years and was previously from the Marlette area.

She was born on August 21, 1947 in Flat Rock, Michigan the daughter of Warren Bliss and Evelyn Pratt.

She attended the Lamotte Missionary Church.

She worked for the past 16 years at Oetiker Inc. in Marlette as a press operator. She also worked at the former Ruth's Restaurant.

She enjoyed bowling, setting down by the St. Clair River and most of all, she enjoyed her family.

She is survived by a son, Richard Tammy Warford Jr. of Kingston, MI.; a daughter, Angela (Gary) O'Connor of Port Huron, MI.; his mother, Evelyn Pratt of Marlette; five brothers, Virgil Mayrand of Louisiana, Ed Powell of Marlette, James Bates of St. Clair, MI., Larry (Kelly) Gonyea of Saline, MI. and Leonard Powell of Texas; three sisters, Violet (Charles) Hodder of Deford, MI., Evelyn Ballard of Brown City, MI. and Eleanore (Randy) Dykes of Marlette; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Douglas Fuller, and Chad, Natasha and Richard Warford III; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Stella McQuinson; and a step-son, Leonard Duchene.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. Elroy Gilmore Jr. officiating. Cremation will follow the service at Sunset Valley Crematory in Bay City.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will continue at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

NAOMI J. BUSH
Naomi J. Bush, 77, of Kingston, Michigan, died Monday, September 24, 2001 at Tendercare in Cass City.
She has lived in the Kingston area since 1984 and was formerly from the Brown City area.

She was born January 16, 1924 in Royal Oak, Michigan, daughter to the late Abbie and Evelyn (James) Negus. She graduated from Marlette High School in 1941, and married Lloyd Bush November 22, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1984.

Mrs. Bush has owned and operated the Poverty Nook Restaurant in Hemans since 1972. She was a Gray Lady at the Marlette Community Hospital for several years and also did volunteer work for the Red Cross.

She was the former organist for the Bethel Church of C.M.A. for many years and also sang in the choir.

She is survived by two sons, Lyndon Bush of Kingston, Michigan and Mark and Twila Bush of Jenks, OK.; one daughter, Luella Sexton of Sexton, OK.; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, L.J. Negus. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 11:00 am at the Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Pastor Gary Butterfield of the Lamotte Missionary Church officiating.

Burial was at the Marlette cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the United Hospice Service, or the donation of your choice.

RICHARD A. BROWN
Richard A. Brown, 52, of Clifford, died Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Marlette Community Hospital in Marlette, Michigan.
He was born December 30, 1948 in Marlette, the son of Vincent Lee and Gertrude Marie (Moore) Brown.

He was a 1967 graduate of Marlette High School. He served in the Army during Vietnam Era.

He was an active member of the Burlington Fire Department for 35 years, serving as past Asst. Chief and Captain and was a member of the VFW Post 10884.

He worked as a Scalehouse Manager for Measel Gravel Pit. He enjoyed trapping and hunting.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Brown of Hillman; three daughters, Amy and Gerald Gagnon of Sandusky, Sarah and Kristofer Petersen of Marlette, and Rebecca Brown of Clifford; Deborah Brown (mother of his children) of Marlette; four brothers, Thomas and Judy Brown of Hillman, James and Alice Brown of Mayville, Donald Brown of Mio, and Douglas and Denise Brown of Clifford; three sisters, MaryLee and Lee Hebner of Tustin, Patricia Bruman of North Branch, and Karen Larkin of Texas; a special friend, Bonny Tracy of Marlette; two grandchildren, Jacob A. Brown and Morgan E. Gagnon; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Brown; and a sister, Ellen.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clifford. with Rev. Fr. Jude Ellinghausen officiating.

Burial was in the St. Patricks cemetery in Clifford.

Casketbearers were: Rodney Friday Sr., Mark Schank, Rodney Friday Jr., Jim, Rye, Brian McGinnis, and Mike Bower.

Memorial request may be given to the family.

Arrangements were made by Marsh Funeral Chapel, Inc. of Marlette, MI.
