HINDMAN - Phillip James Hindman, age 55, of Cutlerville, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2015. He honorably served his country in the US Air Force for nine years, and worked as a truck driver for the Kent County Road Commission for 26 years. His parents, Raymond and Virginia, and his sister, Mary, preceded him in death. Phillip will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy; his daughters, Chelsea (Jared) Naber, and Shelby Hindman; his precious grandson, Samuel Naber; his brothers, Ray, Doug, and Terry; his sisters, Kathy, Stacy, and Carrie; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Kathleen Olds; his brother-in-law, Carroll Robert (Cheryl) Olds; his sister-in-law, Kelly (Randy) Warren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, September 10, at Providence Christian Reformed Church, 7730 Eastern Ave. SE, with Pastor Bob Boersma officiating. Interment will be in Blain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of MI. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 7 - 9 p.m. at Stroo Funeral Home, and on Thursday prior to the service from 12 - 1 pm at Providence CRC.

Dr. Richard Post Ryskamp

Dr. Richard Post Ryskamp, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, and now rejoices in the company of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After receiving an engineering degree from Lehigh University and a medical degree at the University of Rochester, Dr. Ryskamp served four years as an Army physician in Germany. He returned to Grand Rapids in 1997 and worked 18 years as an intensive care doctor at St. Mary's Hospital. A devoted husband and father, he considered his two sons his most worthy investment and greatest contribution to the world. Since 2009, Dr. Ryskamp served the community on the Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees, advocating for a focus on education and the welfare of the students. He sought to promote tolerance and evenhandedness in dealing with controversial matters, along with respect for the laws and standards of the community. After a nine year battle with cancer, the abrupt onset of acute leukemia brought about his death within a week. His family is very grateful to all those who provided medical and nursing care as well as to the hundreds of friends faithfully praying for him. Richard was pre-deceased by his father, John H. Ryskamp. He is survived by his mother, Constance VanZylen Ryskamp-Schipper of Holland and her husband, Wayne Schipper; his beloved wife of 25 years, Annemarieke VanGurp Ryskamp; his sons, Samuel Ryskamp and Thomas Ryskamp; sisters, Cynthia (Michael) Mehallow, Carol (Glenn) Anderson, and Nancy (Michael) Maratea; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be on Friday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home. A private family committal service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Holland, MI, with Rev. Brian Najapfour officiating. A public memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 12 at Dutton United Reformed Church, 6950 Hanna Lake SE, with Rev. Paul T. Murphy officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Christian School Mountaineer Fund or the Saint Mary's Doran Foundation.

Arthur J. Sessions, age 66, of Kentwood, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015. Art proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Sessions; and brother, David. He is survived by his sister and brothers, Tom (Ruth) Sessions, Linda (Bob) Terrell, Mark Sessions and Laura Smitter, Jim (Michelle) Sessions; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery in Kalamazoo.

PEET - Hazel Lee Peet, aged 73, of Wayland, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Forrest; children, Tammy (Thomas) Brown, Travis (Carrie) Peet, Brenda (William) Banks; and ten grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015 at the Stroo Funeral Home. Interment in Bowne Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Hazel may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Amanda Kranich; her first husband, Thomas Branch; and her brothers, Loren, Clifford, and Melvin Kranich. Edie will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Rev. Duane McNeil; her children, Denise (Dr. Alan) Silver, Robin Stewart, Thomas (Kim) Branch, Jeffrey (Rebecca) Branch; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her brother, Irving (Constance) Kranich; her step-children, David (Carol) McNeil, Rev. On Saturday, September 5, 2015, Ann F. (Vogelreuter) Bartus, age 58, of Ada, formerly of Marshall, MI, passed peacefully after fending off her cancer for a decade. Ann will be remembered for her love of life, her ability to fill a room with light and grace, and her never failing positive attitude. She will be forever loved by her daughter, Audrey F. Bartus; her son, Evan T. Bartus; her sisters, Sarah (Eugene) Smith, Amy (Greg) Lance, Beth (George) Calvert; her nephews and nieces, Micah G. Lance, Rebekah A. Lance, Kayla B. Smith, Brennan R. Smith, and Michali D. Calvert; her former husband, Tom Bartus; and her step-father, Charlie Leonard. HEWITT - Kenneth M. Hewitt, aged 86, of Caledonia, went to be with his Lord on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015. Ken loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting up north, and wintering in Florida. He served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne division. He retired from the General Motors metal fab plant. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Donna; children, James Hewitt and Leah Delano, Debra Miller and Tim Reed, Richard (Brandy) Hewitt; eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at the Stroo Funeral Home. Interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Ken may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to a charity of your choice.

On Sunday, September 20, 2015, James Albert Lobbezoo, age 29, of Caledonia, left his earthly home with family by his side and is now walking with the Lord in Heaven. Despite being paralyzed for nine years, Jimmy lived his life to the fullest. His attitude and smile were an inspiration to those around him. He loved taking his dog, Lexi, for walks, listening to music, and had a love for football, especially the Michigan Wolverines. Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Albert and Bobbi Lobbezoo, Rockwell Klawieter, and Gerald Barnaby. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Tom and Sue; his sisters, Rebecca Phillips (Troy), Kimberly, and Stacy; his three nieces, Caidence, Kiley, and Rhylie, who always brought a smile to his face and joy to his life; grandparents, Joyce and Don Creswell; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and a special friend, Wendy. A sincere thanks is extended to all the medical staff who cared for Jim over the years. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Stroo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, September 24, at Dutton United Reformed Church, 6950 Hanna Lake SE, with Rev. Richard J. Miller officiating. Interment will be in Dutton Cemetery. Jimmy will forever be in our hearts and we find comfort in the fact he is no longer in pain or suffering and that he is changing lives with the Gift of Life! Memorial contributions may be given to Gift of Life Michigan.
