Lauretta J. Jackson
Lauretta J. Jackson, age 78, of 301 E. Court St., went to be with her Lord Monday, July 30. She died at Baywood Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Lauretta Jane Patterson was born in Ludington Jan. 10, 1923, the daughter of George and Frances (Parsons) Patterson. She grew up in Ludington where she attended school.
She was a member of the Community Church of Ludington and in her free time she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing bingo with her friends at Longfellow Towers.
Surviving are four sons, Ronald (and Barbara) Scott of Ludington, George Scott of Detroit, Terry (and Linda) Scott of Muskegon, and Fred Jackson of Houghton Lake; one sister, Alice Yeskey of Ludington; two brothers, Andrew “Cy” (and Dorothy) Patterson of Wyandotte, and Frank (and Elmira) Patterson of Ludington; six grandchildren, Jason Scott, Tabitha Scott, Taya Scott, Kimberly Jackson, Steven Jackson and Gary Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Scott; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister and one son, Jim Jackson, in 1967.
The funeral for Lauretta Jackson will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 at the Dorrell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Christensen officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
The family will be present at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. to receive friends.

Mrs. Maxine Rines Lothrop
Mrs. Maxine Rines Lothrop, age 74, of Scottville, passed away on Monday, July 30 at her home.
Maxine was born March 3, 1927, in Athens, Maine, to Amos E. and Beatrice (Trueworthy) Rines Jr. On April 15, 1950, she married Robert D. Lothrop in Lincoln, Maine.
They moved to Flint in 1955. Following Robert’s retirement in 1983 they moved to Scottville. Robert preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Todd, Waldo and Amos Rines, and her sister, Shirley Rines.
Maxine was a lifelong homemaker, a generous and loving lady, devoted to her family and always ready to welcome friends.
Maxine is survived by her children, Jan (Rod) Merrill of Scottville, Dan (Marie) Lothrop of Tacoma, Wash., Diane Lothrop of Dearborn, Jim (Sue) Lothrop of Phoenix, Ariz., Mark (Lourdes) Lothrop of Scottville, and Sandy (Rob Nolan) Lothrop of Tacoma, Wash.; her grandchildren, Chris and Steve Merrill, Hugh McManus, Jeremy (April) Fulton, Chelsea Lothrop and Rosina Lothrop; her brother, Phil (Madeline) Rines of Bangor, Maine; her sisters, Winifred Crocker and Janet Rines, both of Dexter, Maine.
Services for Mrs. Lothrop will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at the Stephens Funeral Chapel in Scottville with the Rev. Bobby Dale Whitlock of Scottville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery.
Those who wish to make memorial contributions may direct them to the United Way to be designated for the benefit of the Scottville Area Senior Center.
George John Hoffman
George Hoffman, age 83, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 29 after being in ill health for many years.
George John Hoffman was born April 7, 1918, the son of George and Mary (Petzinger) Hoffman in Weare Township, Oceana County. He was a farmer for many years.
On Dec. 2, 1939, he married Lillian Forbes. After farming for many years on South Scottville Road, they moved into the city of Scottville where he worked for FiveCAP as a janitor at Mason County Central Schools. He also worked at various places as a handy man for older people and was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Scottville.
George and Lillian celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1999.
George was preceded in death by two infant children and a sister, Clara Shaner.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; son, Richard (Beverly) Hoffman; two granddaughters, Karen Hoffman and Melanie Hoffman; devoted friends, Armondo and Cheryl Romero, who have been like family to him and Lillian, and a host of other friends and relatives.
The funeral for Mr. Hoffman will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Stephens Funeral Chapel in Scottville with Henry Schenkel officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

William J. Cauchie
Died Oct. 24, 1999
William J. Cauchie, age 89, of 301 E. Court St., Longfellow Towers, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24 at Spectrum Health Care, Downtown Campus, Grand Rapids, following a brief illness
William J. Cauchie was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Monroe County. He was married April 18, 1933, in Angola, Ind., to Marjorie Wilson who survives. The couple was married for 66 years. They lived in Pentwater and moved to Ludington in 1992. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Pere Marquette Lodge No. 299, Free and Accepted Masons. He had been employed at Ford Motor Company in Dundee for many years, and later the couple owned Temperance Food Locker and Market in Temperance, retiring in 1981.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Molly J. Cauchie of Pittsford, and Mrs. Debora White of Pentwater; two grandchildren, Chip (and Kerra) White of Midland, and Alice White of Pentwater; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Samantha White; two sisters, Catherine Covell of Holly, and Alice (and Richard) Burke of Leesburg, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Marian Vance, and a son-in-law, Warren White.
Memorial services for Mr. Cauchie will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Ludington with the Rev. Paul Lowley officiating.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice with envelopes available at the church and at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Robert J. Songer
Died June 2, 2001
Robert J. Songer, age 76, of Venice, Fla., formerly of north suburban Chicago, died Saturday, June 2 in Venice, Fla., following an extended illness.
Robert James Songer was born Sept. 1, 1924, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Herbert J. and Ruby (McTaggart) Songer. He grew up in Pontiac where he received his elementary and high school education and attended the University of Michigan College of Engineering, graduating with the class of 1949.
He was married Aug. 28, 1948, in Ludington at the Community Church to Carolyn Newberg and she survives. Bob was proud of his military service, having served with the 1st Allied Airborne Division of the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of the Medical Engineering Volunteers of Venice, Fla., the Chi Phi Fraternity and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Sarasota, Fla.
He was a registered professional engineer in electrical and mechanical engineering in Michigan and Illinois and had worked as an engineering consultant and a manufacturers representative.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Laurel (and Daniel) Short of Marquette, Holly (and Randall) Raak of Zeeland, Heather (and James) Karl of Seattle, Wash.; one son, Matthew N. (and Laura) Songer, M.D., of Marquette; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bruce.
Services for Robert J. Songer will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Community Church with the Rev. William Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Edwin H. Ewing Post No. 76, the American Legion. Bob’s family will receive friends in the narthex of the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Baptist Church Missions Fund, 8000 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Fla., with envelopes also available at the Dorrell Funeral Home.
Clayton F. Schwartz
Died Sept. 12, 2000
Clayton F. Schwartz, age 86, of Comstock Park and formerly of Ludington, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Sept. 12.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine.
The family wishes to invite all his friends and family to graveside services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pere Marquette Cemetery, Ludington.
