October 31, 1931 - November 5, 2005

Betty Jean Peek, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel with Rev. Shelly LaMew officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 8, from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday, November 9, from 12 noon until time of service at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Betty was born October 31, 1931, in Coldwater, MI, the daughter of Harley and Wilma Blackmer. Betty was a graduate of Chandler Business School, and before retiring in 1994, she had been employed with various employers, including Commission on Aging, American Cancer Society, Sears, MMI, Marty Childs Heating & Cooling, Big Lots and Michigan Air Gas. Betty enjoyed taking Sunday drives and liked camping, fishing, and horseback riding.

Betty is survived by her children, Larry L. Smith, Gary L. Smith, and Cynthia S. Hilderbrand (Neal), all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Jeremy L. Smith, Corey L. Smith, Marty O. Smith (Roxanne), Autumn T. Smith, Mitchel E. Smith (Catherine Lamblin), Jamie Lee Bussell (Brent), Heather Hilderbrand, and Jesse Hilderbrand; great-grandchildren Amber Smith, Chelsea Smith, Destiney Rossa, Ty Nguyet, and Brent Bussell.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leeland L. “Verne” Smith; mother and step-father Wilma and Adam Stumpf; father Harley Blackmer; sister Kathleen Blackmer; grandparents Lenny and Mary Sims, beloved cousin Molly Fair, and ex-husband George Peek

Carrier, Mildred N.
September 20, 1914 - November 4, 2005

Mildred N. Carrier, 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Friday, November 4, 2005 at the Wooden Rocker Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Greg Buckner officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday, November 7, 2005 from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rosebush United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Mildred was born on September 20, 1914 in Isabella County, the daughter of William and Estelle Graham. She married Seth John Carrier on December 12, 1936. He preceded her in death. Mildred worked for Central Michigan Community Hospital for 19 years as a dietician before retiring in 1976. She was a foster grandparent at Mary McGuire and enjoyed cooking, bingo, her grandchildren, sewing and she enjoyed the fall seasons.

Mildred is survived by her children, Larry (Grace) Carrier of Phoenix, AZ, Wilda (Bill) Recker of Clare, Jay (Sharon) Carrier of Rosebush and daughter-in-law, Cindy Carrier; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Seth; son, Durward Carrier; granddaughter, Jamie Carrier; two brothers and three sisters.

Lichtman, Susanne
September 19, 1913 - November 4, 2005

Susanne Lichtman, 92, of Chicago, IL, died Friday, November 4, 2005, in Mt. Pleasant.

Final funeral arrangements are being handled by the Weinstein Family Services Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Boulevard, Wilmette, IL 60091-3055, (847) 256-5700.

Schemm, Robert Erwin
June 24, 1924 - November 4, 2005

Robert Erwin Schemm, 81, of Bay City, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2005, at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant.

Cremation has taken place.

Robert was born June 24, 1924, in Bay City, the son of Richard and Agnes Schemm. He graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1942 and from University of Michigan in 1950, holding a B.A. degree. Robert was a member of the Sigma Phi Fraternity. Robert served in the United States Army with the rank of Corporal. Robert was employed by General Motors Institute (Kettering) in sales and marketing development until his retirement in the late ‘80s. He was a former Essexville City Commissioner.

Robert is survived by Louise Schemm of Bay City; 3 children Richard (Patricia Sparks) Schemm of Traverse City, Peter Schemm of Bay City, and Suzanne (Rick) Schemm Vulgamott of Northboro, MA; 2 grandchildren, Zoe and Zachary Vulgamott; nieces Cynthia Davis of FL and Rody Denise of MA..

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vera Rush.

Arrangements were handled by Clark Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant.

Rogers, Leon Lyle
January 17, 1930 - November 4, 2005

Leon Lyle Rogers, 75, of Shepherd, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2005, at Central Michigan Community Hospital

Meister, Edward J.
July 3, 1918 - October 30, 2005

Edward John Meister, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Oct. 30, 2005, at Margaret's Meadows Assisted Living in Blanchard.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will take place at Oakwood cemetery in Traverse City at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel, Mt. Pleasant. A prayer service for Edward will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Special Olympics of Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.
Edward was born on July 3, 1918, the son of Justin and Elizabeth (Steffel) Meister in Petoskey. He married Kathryn Kelley Oct. 13, 1945, in Lansing.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and four children: Thomas Edward (wife Eileen) Meister of Royal Oak, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) (husband George) Lancaster of Marathon, Fla.; Maureen L. Kennedy of Brighton, and Christopher Robert (wife Katie) Meister of Royal Oak. Grandchildren are Mark, Eric and Matt Meister, George E., Christine, Jonnie and Tommy Lancaster; Mike and Courtney Kennedy, and Justin and Philip Meister and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four sisters, Edith Brown, Alice Miller, Ruth Lustig, and Mildred Brown.
He was a distinguished World War II veteran, serving as a colonel in the 3rd Armored Division in Belgium and Germany. He received a Belgian Double Fourragere 1940 award, an honor given for two or more occasions of bravery in war.
Ed retired as assistant district manager for the Social Security Administration's Mt. Pleasant office in 1980. He received a master's degree in educational administration in 1987 from Central Michigan University and taught at the College of Education at the university.
He was active in community and service organizations including Mt. Pleasant Rotary clubs, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion, B. P. O. E. (Elks), and the first board of education at Sacred Heart Parish.

Gill, James Furl
October 24, 1958 - October 29, 2005

James Furl Gill, 47, of Mt. Pleasant passed away October 29, 2005. Private family services will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements are pending at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Anderson, Andrew M.
September 22, 1955 - October 28, 2005

Andrew M. Anderson, 50, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away October 28, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services for Andrew will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Clark Funeral Chapel with Dr. Stephen Shugert officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 31st from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Community Cancer Services. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Andrew was born on September 22, 1955 in Detroit, MI the son of Sylvester and Henrietta (Bosnakowicz) Anderson. He worked as a welder in Detroit. Andrew married Landis Horning on August 5, 2000 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a Stewart for his Local Union. Andrew was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. He enjoyed woodworking, building wishing wells made of wood, carving, working with computers, cooking and Barbequing.

He is survived by his wife, Landis Anderson of Mt. Pleasant; children, Kathleen (Matthew) Stevenson; Donna both of Lebanon, TN; Eric (Amy) Anderson of Pulaski, TN and Curtis A. Bullard of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Savanah Stevenson; Mersades Bergman; Skylar Stevenson and Cameron Anderson; mother and father-in-law, Wallace and Sue Blodgett of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Joseph Anderson of Weidman; Don Anderson of Florida and Art Anderson of Centerline, MI; sister, Elizabeth (Rick) Wiggins of Midland and many nieces and nephews.

Andrew is preceded in death by his son, Andrew in 1987; parents and a brothers James and Charles; sisters, Isabelle Shovan; Dorothy and Rita Joyce.

Scully, Edna K.
October 10, 1921 - October 25, 2005

Edna K. Scully, 84, of Mt. Pleasant went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

A Funeral Mass for Edna will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 26th from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Thursday, October 27, 2005 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday October 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Sacred Heart Parish. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.

Edna was born on October 10, 1921 in Rosebush, the daughter of Sherman and Magdalena (Kremsreiter) Neff. She married J. Edward Scully on September 11, 1948. Edna owned and operated Scullys Jewelry Store with her husband. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and volunteered at many Church activities. Edna was active in the Michigan Special Olympics.

Edna is survived by her children, Magdalene (Pat) Koester; Patrick (Teresa) Scully; Joseph (Rebecca) Scully; Michael Scully (Missy Mogg); Jim Scully and Laurie Scully; grandchildren, Tara (Greg) Kopasz, Mark and Eric Koester, Rachel (Andrew) Boatright, Justin, Nyle, Miah and Alyssa Scully; great-grandchildren, Brenden and Bailee Boatright; one sister, Eileen (Jack) McConnell; sister-in-laws, Virgina Bisby; Mary Cole; Margaret Millard; Rose Ann Forton; Lucille (Earl) Tilmann and Esther Cotter and brother-in-laws, Junior McConnell and William (Eileen) Scully.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward Scully on July 2, 1974; brothers, Edward (Mildred) Neff, Ernest Neff and Raymond (Penny) Neff and sisters, Bernadine (Gene) Morrison and Monica McConnell.

Nicholson, Agnes J
March 23, 1915 - October 12, 2005

Agnes Josephine Nicholson, 90, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services for Agnes will be held on Friday, October 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Wayne Boughan officiating. Interment will follow in the Two Rivers cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 12, 2005 from 1-9 p.m. at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Commissions on Aging, VFW Ladies Auxiliary - Blackman Thompson Post or Central Michigan Community Hospital. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel.

Agnes was born on March 23, 1915 in Big Bay, Michigan the daughter of Joseph and Gertie (Bowers) Beerman. She married Orval Nicholson on March 9, 1935. Agnes was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary Beerman-Williams Post.

Agnes is survived by her children, Lois Jean (Joseph) Clark of Mt. Pleasant, Orval “Butch” (Dorothy) Nicholson Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, Sharon Kay (Vern) Davis of Harrison and Flora Darlene (Jim) Mena of Mt. Pleasant; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and one brother, Calvin Beerman of Florida.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; brothers, Evart, Karl, Vern and Gerald and sister, Velva Chaffee.

Strathearn, Robert L
November 25, 1936 - October 12, 2005

Robert Lyle Strathearn, 68, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services for Robert will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. from Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Wayne Boughan officiating. Interment will take place at the Fort Custer cemetery in Battle Creek. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Robert was born on November 25, 1936 in Dale, New York, the son of William and Eva (Merrifield) Strathearn. He served for the United States Marines. Robert worked for Isabella County Parks and golf courses in Florida. He married Linda Thuston on October 3, 2003 in Mt. Pleasant. Robert was a member of the Eagles Club in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed family, road trips and talking at the coffee shops.

Robert is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Mark (Margie) Strathearn of Portage, MI, Kelly (Ron) Whitby of Old Town, Florida and Carla (John) Cocke of Chiefland, Florida; Six grandchildren; Four Great-grandchildren; step-children Vicki of New York, Harold Brown, Geffory Brown of Wyoming, MI and Lorri of Florida and sister, Jeannette Henderson of New York, Jeffery (Sandra) Heaven of Blanchard, Terri Heavan of Mt. Pleasant.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William and step-daughter, Julie Brown.

Jackson, Maurice Dean
April 19, 1951 - October 8, 2005

Maurice Dean Jackson, 54, of Ann Arbor passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2005 at The University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Funeral services for Maurice will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at 1 p.m. from the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver Twp. cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Chapel and on Thursday, October 13, 2005 from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous. Envelopes will be available at Clark Funeral Chapel and the church.

Maurice was born on April 19, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Andrew and Isabella (Koon) Jackson. He served in the United States Army. Maurice married Viela Z. Neitzelt on October 18, 2003 in Saginaw. He was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and enjoyed the animals in nature and loved his cats.

Maurice is survived by his wife, Viela of Ann Arbor; brothers, Bernard Jackson of Fremont, IN and Andrew Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Wilma (Lairy) Jionet of Harrietta, MI, Zelda Jenkins of Honor, MI, Norma Rapp of Mt. Pleasant and Wanda Lautner of Traverse City and many nieces and nephews.

Maurice was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald, Lamont, Raymond and Wilmot Jackson.

Kappler, Larry Earnest
June 22, 1947 - October 4, 2005

Larry Earnest Kappler, 58, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at his home.

Graveside services for Larry will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Kelly cemetery in Oil City with John Endres officiating.

Larry was born on June 22, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Leo and Dolly (Roberts) Kappler. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal. Larry married Sherrie Ames on July 29, 1966. He worked as a semi driver for Alma Iron and Metal for 8 years and Ferro Manufacturing until its closing. Larry enjoyed working, metal building and welding different projects.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sherrie; sons, Larry (Bethany) Kappler of Shepherd and Jerry Kappler of Mt. Pleasant; grandsons, Larry and Joseph Kappler of Shepherd; brothers, Leo Gary (Sandy) Kappler of Mt. Pleasant and William (Diane) Kappler of Tubbs Lake, MI and sisters, Charlotte (Bill) Johnson of Arizona, Diane (Glen) Carnell of Virginia and Dolly Wilson of Mt. Pleasant.

Larry was preceded in by his parents and daughter.
