HOWARD, GEORGE R., Jr.; age 75; of Gladwin; passed away suddenly Friday Oct. 26th at the Mid Michigan Medical Center-Midland. George was born January 26, 1932 in Flint to George & Marguerite (Granger) Howard Sr. George was a member of the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church. He married the former Sharon Cramer on Sept. 10, 2005 in Gladwin. George served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954. He was a fire fighter for the Waterford Twp. Fire Dept. for twenty two years retiring as Captain. He was a volunteer for Hospice of Gladwin and was a member of Gideon s International and he loved to travel and do his crossword puzzles. Surviving besides his wife Sharon are two sons, Robert and Marti Howard of Pensacola, FL., David and Vikki Howard of North Ridgeville, OH.; one daughter Nancy and Lee Lynn of Fairhaven; three stepchildren, Sherry and Sam Long of Macomb Co., Timothy and Cheryl of Macomb Co. and Doug and Amanda Rodman of Thetford; 11 grandchildren. George is predeceased by one grandson Jimmie and his first wife Barbara. Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church. Rev. Tony Alexander will officiate and burial will be in the Tuscola Twp. cemetery. Friends may call at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Gladwin or the Gideons.

St. CLAIR, CARL L.; age 77; December 21, 2007. Beloved husband of Pearl; loving father of Joseph (Paulette), James (Michelle), and Sandra St. Clair; grandfather of ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; dear brother of the late Raymond. HARGRAVE, ANTHONY "TONY"; age 47; died of a stroke; November 10, 2007. As a Marine for six years, he traveled the world. He was generous, never angry, loved his family. He traveled in his red truck with professional camera and laptop. He returned to college. Remember him kindly say, " hi Tony live it up, you're free as a bird now". LENTZ, REX A.; age 88; of Rochester Hills; died December 21, 2007. A Navy veteran of World War II, he graduated from Wayne State University and was retired from Detroit Broach Corp. and Newcor. A member of University Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post #172, he was an author, having published "An Abridged History of World Religions". Beloved husband of Violet, whom he married September 22, 1943; dear father of Rex (Gail) Lentz of Royal Oak, Timothy (Diana) Lentz of Rochester Hills, Laurie (Rob) Davis of Wayland, MI and Elizabeth (Michael) Dolan of Clarkston; loving grandfather of Andrew, Sarah (Michael), Adam (Jessy), Bradley, Jeffrey and Bethany; new great grandfather of baby Violet. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Wednesday at University Presbyterian Church, 1385 S. Adams Road in Rochester Hills with burial to follow in Great Lakes National cemetery. Visitation Sunday 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive in Rochester. Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.

SCHIRLE, EDMUND C.; age 73; of Fenton; December 15, 2007. Mr. Schirle served in the Army during the Korean War. He later owned and operated Prestige Hair Salon in Troy for over 25 years. Beloved husband of Patricia (Kelly) Schirle for 49 years; loving father of Tereasa (Brian) Corcoran, Laura (Andy) Markarian, Daniel (Marcia) Schirle, and the late Edmund Schirle Jr.; dearest Papa of Matthew, Evan, Alex, Brian (Connie) Kinser, and Mark Kinser; and brother of Joseph (Marie), Angie Morris, John (Jeannette), Paul (Gloria), the late Mary Margaret (Allen) Kaiser, and the late Thomas Schirle; brother-in-law of Joan Schirle, the late Fred Morris, Anne (Joel) Hodgson, Kevin ( Lynn ) Kelly and Colleen (Kel) Demo. CHRISTIAN, ROSEMARIE G.; of Goodrich; age 62; died Wednesday December 19, 2007 at her residence. Surviving are: husband; Howard Jr.; son, Paul Christian; two granddaughters, Samantha and Olivia; sister, Rhonda (Carlton) Flowers; brother, Russell (Tracy) Palmer; mother-in-law, Elaine Christian; and her aunt, Mildred Rundell. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruthann Kheen.

CUNNINGHAM, JOAN JUNE; of Clarkston; December 20, 2007; at 77 years of age. Dear mother of Laurie Cunningham Fields (Rick); grandmother of Noah Fields; sister of the late Janis (Steve) White, Junior Baum and Jim Baum; special aunt to Sandra (Jerry) Bradow, Kathy LaDouceur, George (Cheryl) Baum and Nancy (Carl) Buddrow. Joan retired from General Motors in the Cost Accounting Dept. after 25 years of service. She was a member of the GM Girls Club and the American Business Women s Association, Waterford Chapter. She was a 1949 graduate of Pontiac High School and on their reunion committee. Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Coats Funeral Home, Waterford. Interment will follow at Ottawa Park cemetery. STARR, LUCILLE; age 86; passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007 at Alterra-Clare Bridge in Grand Blanc. Funeral Services will be held at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc on Wednesday, December 26, 2007. The time of the service will be announced later. Lucille will be missed by her two children; James (Naomi) Starr and Carole (Richard) Canfield; three grandchildren, Andrew Starr, Reiker (Aimee) Canfield and Krista (Omar) Howard; three great grandchildren, Jacob Canfield, Alex Canfield and Taylor Howard; brother John (Bonnie) Hamill and many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Buel Starr, parents and a brother.

WILEY, JOHN J.; life long resident of Waterford; died December 21, 2007; at 87 years of age. Loving husband of Marjorie for 60 years; loving father of Michael (Susan) Wiley, David (Pamela) Wiley and Bridget (Richard) Robbins; grandfather of Erin, Anne, Jonathan, Dawn and Laura; preceded in death by siblings Norman, Otto and Lucielle. John was a veteran of US Army W.W.II Third Army Second Division and actively fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Sons of Norway and founding member of Christ Lutheran Church, Waterford. John's career included food broker, manager and owner of grocery stores. He retired as a broker for some of the largest food distributing companies in the US. Funeral Service Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 5987 Williams Lake Rd., Waterford. Interment follows at Ottawa Park cemetery, Clarkston. Family will receive friends Wednesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at COATS FUNERAL HOME, Waterford and Thursday at Christ Lutheran at 10 a.m. before service. ANN WHITE; age 84; of Clawson; passed on December 22, 2007. Preceded in death by loving husband of 25 years, Ralph; daughter Joyce Michalak; as well as six siblings; survived by her granddaughter Debra Flowers (Surgener); grandsons Ron Michalak and Kevin Surgener; grandchildren, Kara, Lauren and Troy Root, Logan Flowers, Bethany, Tasha and Ashton Surgener, Hailey and Hunter Michalak. Ms. White was a beautician at Jodeen's Beauty Salon in Hazel Park. The family will receive friends on December 26, 2007 from 2 to 9 p.m. at Gramer Funeral Home; 705 N Main St Clawson with Funeral on December 27, 2007 at Gramer.

ENRIGHT, CLARICE M.; age 80; of Rochester Hills; January 23. 2008. Wife of the late Harold Enright; mother of George Moberly, Nancy (Bill) Caldwell, Alex (Joyce) Moberly, Robin Moberly and Sherry (Rick) Grow; also survived by seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild; sister of Robert Cryderman, John Cryderman, Raymond Cryderman, William Cryderman and the late Shirley Opiola. Funeral Service Saturday 9 a.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester. Visitation Friday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

PHILLIPS, JEFFREY; age 24; a former resident of Highland Township; and 2001 graduate of Milford High School; died on January 20, 2008; in Florida. He is survived by his parents Jeffrey and Denise Phillips; grandparents Jim and Joan Phillips and Elmer and Sue Wagner; brother Steve Phillips; and numerous cousins; aunts and uncles. Jeffrey will reunite with his loving grandmother Judith Pendo; great grandmother Sitto; and great grandmother Phillips. He played hockey ever since he was a young boy and played for Honey Baked, before playing semi pro hockey for our local Plymouth Whalers. Jeffrey dedicated his life to Jesus Christ, recently and was actively working in Florida with his father for Ric Man Construction. A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 404 E. Liberty, Milford, on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Tim Forsthoff officiating. Friends may visit Saturday 2 tp 9 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. until the time of service. Loving husband of the late Marguerite; dear father of Joan (Edsel) Matthews, Ed (Kathy) Haynes and Marie (Bob) Hill; brother of Bertha Smith, Eva (Charlie) Ross, Cecilia (Ken) Hollenbeck and Gerald (Sharon) Haynes; also survived by 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. CROMWELL, KATHRYN KIT P.; of Ann Arbor, MI; age 46; passed away peacefully at home, January 19, 2008; with her beloved Friend, Thomas Mike Acton at her side. Kit was born the fourth cherished child of Joseph Scotty and Patricia Cromwell on January 30, 1961. At Kit s request, cremation has taken place. Her mother, Patricia Cromwell, and her two sisters, Diane Hartley of Ann Arbor and Sally Rivard of Sebring, Florida, predecease her. Her Exceptionally Devoted brother, Scott F. Cromwell of Redford Township, MI, survives her. Also survived by her LOVING father, Scotty Cromwell and his wife and Kit s dearest step mother, Maryann S. Cromwell of Bloomfield Hills. Kit loved talking on the phone to her nieces Christina and Megan Rivard in Florida and to her nephews Jason and Alex Rivard also of Florida. Her nephew, Aaron Hartley would delight Kit and Mike with an occasional visit from his home here in Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan but was unable to complete her senior year due to her Muscular Dystrophy. Although Kit had a great love for All things bright and beautiful and her three cats; her heart and work was focused on the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living. It was at this center that she was very active and influential in numerous communiqu s to local and state legislators regarding the needs of the "Disabled". She mastered the art of perseverance and was a champion fighter for her own physical disability and that of others. Her family and many cherished friends and staff at the AACIL will celebrate her life on January 25, 2008. Guest are invited to come to Kit s Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. at the AACIL. DIETERS, DIRK I., age 82; January 22, 2008. A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Dieters was a 1950 M.S.U graduate, he lettered in baseball and was a member of the Varsity Alumni Association. He taught for Utica Schools for thirty years. Baseball was his passion. He founded Ford Field baseball diamond in Utica, founded Suburban Softball in 1981 and created numerous leagues. Mr. Dieters was the head baseball coach at Oakland University from 1975 to 1980. He was a devoted member at University Presbyterian Church in Rochester Hills. Beloved husband of Ruth; loving father of Dirk T. (Moira), Robert (Susan), James (Irene), Thomas (Valerie) and Susan Dieters; dear brother of Annette (Harold) Stieg; dear grandpa of Kyle, Katy, Dirk, William, Patrick, Kelsey, Amy, Sarah, Molly, Maria and Jackson; dear great grandpa of Estella, Liam and Dirk. SPARROW, D. PAT; age 80; January 22, 2008. Beloved wife of David; loving mother of Susan (Michael) Carson, Nancy (Michael) Sparrow and Joanne (Dick) Stewart; proud grandmother of Sarah Carson, Julie (Kevin Vranes) Carson, Jessie, Lizzie and Molly Stewart and Evan Sparrow; and great grandmother of Stella Vranes. She was a 50 year member of Christ Church Cranbrook, a trustee emeritus of the Michigan Humane Society and a long time resident of Harbor Springs. PLOURDE, MARY MARGARET (NEE PERNA); March 8, 1916 - January 22, 2008. Mary was raised in Pontiac, Michigan and graduated from Pontiac Central High School. She married Kenton (Toby) Plourde on August 7, 1937; they remained together for another 61 years and were blessed with 4 children. Mary was a homemaker and an active volunteer. She was preceded in death by her parents Rose and Frank Perna and step-father August Gualtari; husband Toby; sisters Jane Mazza, twin Florence Rogers, Virginia Crickon; and brother Peter Perna. Surviving Mary are her four children; and their spouses, Richard (Judy), David (Nelie), Michael (Sherrie) and Karen (Lawrence Riley); nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was loved in life and will be loved and missed in death. Mary Plourde eternally happy. RICKARD, CHARLES F.; of Commerce Twp.; January 22, 2008; age 81. Loving husband of Ruby Rhodes Rickard for over 51 years; beloved father of Mark Steven Rickard of Bellevue, WA and Laura Beth (Timothy) Pryor of Clarkston; dear brother of Robert (Peggy) Rickard and Katherine (Ralph) Radford; proud grandfather of Liza, Gracie and Christopher. Mr. Rickard was a Guidance Counselor for many years at Pontiac Northern High School and previously was a teacher at Kennedy and Lincoln Junior High Schools. He was a long time member of Central United Methodist Church and was a member of the Michigan Education Association. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 26, 2008, 11 a.m. at the RIVERSIDE CHAPEL, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford. Officiating Reverend Jim Kellermann.
