James Joseph Henry
departed from this life on Thursday June 24, 2004 at the age of 82 years old at Plaza Care Center. He was born to the late Ellsworth and Celia (Mitchell) Henry on November 27, 1921 in Atlanta, GA. He accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.

He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Floretta Diane Burley of Ypsilanti, MI; two sons, James E. Henry of Toledo, OH and Terrance Henry of Flint, MI; three sisters, Florretta (Peter) Watson of Pensacola, FL, Myrtle Nealy (Jesse) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, and Mary (Frank) Cherry of Toledo, OH, and a special niece, Miranda "Randi".

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Charles Henry.

James worked many jobs, but was a security guard for many years. He attended school in Ypsilanti, MI, where he lived for twenty five years.

James will be missed by many grandchildren, many many nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

There will be private services with Elder Donald Brooks officiating. Interment in Denton cemetery, Van Buren Township.

Arrangements Entrusted to Purse Funeral Home, 2959 N. Adrian Hwy (M-52), Adrian, Michigan.

Karl R. Sylvest
age 79, of Dexter, passed away June 25, 2004 at his home. Born September 1, 1924, in Slangerup, Denmark. At his request, cremation will take place and no services are scheduled.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Kelley Sue Froehlich,
age 39, of Tecumseh, died June 25, 2004. She was born January 21, 1965, in Tecumseh, MI, the daughter of Charles and Donna (Zimmerman) Poley.

Kelley was the loving mother and caregiver to Tyler and DeeAnne, very special daughter of Charles and Alma Poley; also surviving, six sisters, Pam (Lewy) Stump, Paula (Rick) Smith, Pebla (Gary) Miller, Rhonda (Marlin) Webb, Vicky Poley, and Donna Poley; one brother, David Poley, five step brothers, David (Chrystal) Hart, Tim (Paula) Hart, Walter Winters, George Winters, and Charlie Winters; one step sister, Tina (Tom) King, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.

She was preceded in death by her mother Donna Lee Poley on October 23, 1973.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m Tuesday, June 29, 2004 in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Charlene Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Raisin Center Friends cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Monday, in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Margaret C. Knowles,
age 78, of Tecumseh, formerly of Dundee, died June 27, 2004. She was born November 26, 1925 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Clifton Leo and Marie Elizabeth (Hagan) Jarboe. On April 22, 1947 she married Ralph Charles Knowles in Adrian, MI. He preceded her in death on November 19, 1977.

Margaret was a homemaker, busdriver, and cargiver. Most recently, she was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh.

Margaret is survived by five children, James (Nancy) Knowles, of Mission Viejo, CA, Alice (Mark) Porta of Monroe, MI, Martha (Joseph) Horak of Deerfield, Susan Knowles of Southgate, and Richard (Debra) Knowles of Temperance, eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; six sisters, Geraldine Brion of Tecumseh, Maggie (Jim) Morgan of Florida, Anna Mae (Bill) Garrison of California, Pat (Dale) Caldwell of Virginia, Lucille (Leo) Bednark of Adrian, and Barbara (Nelson) Bills of New York; and one brother, Martin (Anita) Jarboe of Adrian.

In addition to her husband Ralph Charles she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Joseph, and a granddaughter Pamela.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 506 N. Union St. Tecumseh, MI, 49286, with Fr. Daniel Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery, Dundee. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday in the Purse Funeral Home. Tecumseh. An additional visitation at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass on Thursday. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Purse Funeral Home, 210 W. Pottawatamie, Tecumseh, MI 49286

Geraldine Marie Keran
age 77, of Britton, died June 29, 2004 in Bixby Medical Center. She was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Macon Township MI, the daughter of Harold S. and Leah A.(Palmer) Craig. Geraldine married John L. Keran on December 11, 1943. He preceded her in death June 26, 1999.

Geraldine was a member of the Britton Congregational Christian Church, and the Womens Fellowship, serving as president for 3 years and secretary for 10 years.

She was a member of the Britton Women's Club, serving as president for 3 years and treasurer for one year.

In addition to being trustee on the Ridgeway cemetery Board since 1968, she has also held the office of treasurer since 1972. She was active in Campfire for many years. Geraldine was also a member of the Britton American Legion Women's Auxillary

Geraldine is survived by one daughter, Kathryn (Paul) Cook of Britton; 3 granddaughters, Dawn Cook and Donna Cook of Britton, Danita (Patrick) Scheick of Clayton, one grandson Gordon Cook of Britton; one great grandson Devin Scheick of Clayton, six sisters, Janice Porterfield of Belleville, Isabelle Craig of Blissfield, Virginia (Milton) Wells of Houston, TX, Dorothy Bunek of Canton, Catherine (Robert) Jones of Deerfield and Phyllis Perry of Britton, one brother, Oliver Craig of Britton; and many nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Stone of Ann Arbor and L. Jane Spence of Brooklyn.

In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son Todd Russell in infancy, and 3 brothers, Dale and Charles Craig, and one in infancy.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004 in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Rev. David Welcome officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgeway cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 & 6-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral services Friday in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Britton Congregational Christian Church or the Ridgeway cemetery Memorial Fund.

Mary Ann McConnell
age 80, of Tecumseh, died July 2, 2004. She was born in Brooklyn, MI, September 24, 1920. She was preceded in death by husbands Albert Hoch in 1957, and Harley McConnell 1968.

Mary Ann was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Dianne (David) Schaffer of Washington State, Susan LaGoe or Adrian, Mary Lou (Jerry) Munger of Tipton, and Jane (Scott) Martin residing overseas, numerous grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and her sister, Irene Burleson of Tecumseh.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Interment will follow in Jackson, Michigan. Friends may call at the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, one hour prior to funeral services Wednesday.

BETH BROWN
Age 78, of Tecumseh, died August 12, 2004, at Herrick Memorial Hospital. She was born September 19, 1925 in Elysian, Minnesota, the daughter of Andrew M. and Pearl E. (Kudlick) Gish. On October 30, 1948, she married Marcus L. Brown in Inkster, MI. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1987.

Beth was retired from TLC Credit Union with 32 years of service. She regularly attended the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated volunteer with Friends Who Care as well as Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her son Kevin (Jaina) Brown of Adrian, and two grandchildren, Kristina Brown and Jennifer Brown. In addition to her husband Marcus, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Ross and Ralph Gish.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Sunday, August 15, 2004 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church with the Rev. David McKinstry officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday (today) and 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. Saturday in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

An additional visitation and funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at Anderson Funeral Home, Minneapolis, MN. Interment will follow in Fort Snelling National cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Memorial Contributions may be made tothe American Cancer Society or Hospice of Lenawee.

DORIS L. SEIBERT
Age 90, of Tecumseh, died August 13, 2004, unexpectedly at home. She was born July 15, 1914, in Baltimore, MD.

Doris is survived by two daughters Gloria Carlson of Tecumseh, and Joyce (Paul) Kahle of Baltimore, MD, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward, daughter Janice, and a sister Sylvia.

At Doris' request, cremation has taken place. Graveside services and interment of cremains will take place at Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh, at a later date.

Arrangements by Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

CONRAD RUSSELL FOSBENDER
Age 74, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with esophageal cancer on June 5, 2004. He was born January 18, 1930 in Hillsdale, MI, the son of Carl and Emma (Cook) Fosbender. On August 22, 1960 he married Janet Short. She survives.

Conrad was a life long resident of the Tecumseh area. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1948. After graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Marines and served in the Korean War. Upon returning from active duty Conrad returned to work at the Tecumseh Products Company, where he worked 43 years until his retirement.

After retirement he worked for the Daily Telegram as newspaper delivery man. Conrad loved life, he was an avid golfer, in which he shot his first hole in one on October 12, 2002, at the age of 72. He was an avid skier and loved being with his family. He brought so much joy to all our lives. He will be truly missed and never forgotten.

Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Emma (Cook) Fosbender, granddaughter Chloe Cubberly and several aunts and uncles.

In addition to his loving wife of 43 years, Janet, he is survived by four daughters, Gloria (Joe) Brooks of Adrian, Polly Murphy of Tecumseh, Kelly (Steven) Corne of Advance, NC, and Amy Fosbender of Onsted; two sons, Scott (Patty) Fosbender of Ann Arbor, and Carl Fosbender of Tecumseh, seven grandchildren, Ben (Jesse) Bailey of Palmyra, Alyssa and Erica Corne, Cory and Bailey Brooks, Emily Murphy, Heather Phenicie, and Tina and Ashley Cabella, three great grandchildren, Nathaniel , Felicity, and Lilly Bailey, his sister Shirley (Jack ) Colson of Guatemala, many nieces and nephews, uncles J.D. (Jennie) Cook of Tecumseh, and Robert Cook of Harrison, and aunts Margie Bell of Ann Arbor, and Marie Richards of Hillsdale.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, Tecumseh with the Rev. Doug Winters officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside cemetery with military honors and flag presentation conducted by Chaplain Mel Wegner and the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and Tecumseh VFW Post #4187. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Home Health Care and Hospice, American Cancer Society, or The First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.

Anna L. Hunter
Age 86, of Tecumseh, died August 22, 2004, unexpectedly at home. She was born October 28, 1917 in Sugar Grove, OH, the daughter of Frederick and Lottie (Moffit) Sharp. On November 14, 1942, she married George W. Hunter. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2004.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Anna loved to cook and took pride in her baking. She was extremely devoted to her family.

Anna is survived by a son William "Bill" of Tecumseh, three daughters, Mary Ann (Burt) Cohen of Sturtevant, WI, Sherry Scherber of Tecumseh, and Barbara Lee (Danny) Clymer of Tecumseh, two granddaughters, Frances E. ( Larry) DeRosier and Marcie A. (Lonnie) Brim both of Racine. WI; two grandsons, Shaun E. (Sara Wuorinen) Clymer of Westminster, CO, and Christopher D. Clymer of Tecumseh; and seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Isabelle Strock of Lancaster, OH and Frances Brown of Lancaster, OH, and one brother Fred Sharp of Quaker City, OH.

In addition to her George, she was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister, Mary, two other sisters, Margaret and Ruth, and brother Bill.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2004, in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, the Rev. Philip Krieger officiating. Interment will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

John Leroy Kelley
Age 63, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, on August 18, 2004. He was born in Hastings, Michigan, on April 13, 1941 to Merle Claude Kelley and Marian Louise McMillen (Hewitt). On July 21, 1962, he married Virginia Sue Martin, she survives.

John is also survived by their two children, Randal (Rita) Kelley of Adrian, and Tammi (Samuel) McCarley of Greendale, Wisconsin.

In addition, he is survived by three brothers, Roger (Gloria) Kelley, David Kelley, and Michael Kelley; two sisters, Patricia Kelley, and Kathy (David) Piel; one step-sister, Pamela Real; a step-father, Rex McMillen; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepmother, B. Corinne Kelley.

In 2000, John retired as Manager of the Speedway Convenience Store in Tecumseh, Michigan, after many years of faithful service.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with the Reverend David McKinstry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Clarice U. Cushing
Age 90, of Tipton, died June 10, 2004 at Saline Evangelical Home. She was born June 26, 1913 the daughter of Andrew and Belva (Krathwohl)Wise.

On August 1, 1936, she married Carlton L. Cushing in Delphi, Indiana. He preceded her death on November 18, 1992. She was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. She was an active volunteer with her church,

Goodwill Industries, Girl Scouts of America, and Tecumseh Monday Club.

Clarice is survived by a daughter, Nancy and her husband Mark Trullinger of Portland, Oregon; daughter in law, Shirley Cushing of Tipton; 8 grandchildren; Barbara Shreve, Eric Fuller, John Trullinger, Allison Trullinger, Terri Smithson, Larry Cushing, Jr., Donald Cushing and Steven Cushing; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren, and her sister Joan Scott of Logansport, IN.

In addition to her husband Carlton, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Cushing, Sr., great grandson, Larry Cushing, III, and three brothers, Clayton, Claude, and Wilbur Wise.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 605 Bishop Reed Drive (517-423-2523 - just off Brown Street), with the Rev. David McKinstry officiating. Interment follow in Franklin cemetery, Tipton, MI. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday & 10-1 PM Saturday in the Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Youth Ministries at Tecumseh United Methodist Church, Goodwill Industries, or Girl Scouts of America.
