Almont

J.L. Hamilton, 87, of Almont, died Saturday (June 22, 2002) at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy.
He was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Almont, to John L. and Gertrude (Goodwin) Hamilton. He married Marietta Mitchell.
He and his wife shared over 62 years of marriage. He was a 1932 graduate of Almont High School. He farmed in Almont on the family farm until his retirement. He then worked for Hammil Seat Belt in Romeo and the Romeo Community Schools for over eight years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Almont and was also a member of the Almont-Dryden Free and Accepted Masons 51 where he served as past master and received his 60-year pin.
He is survived by his wife, Marietta; daughters, Cheryl (Allan) Brown of Santa Anna, Calif., and Claudia (Terry) Boldt of Almont; granddaughters, Kali Miller of Shelby Township and Kari Arms of Almont; great-grandson, Connor Arms; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hamilton Northrop; and brother, Roy Hamilton.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (June 26, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Larry W. Rieck of the First Congregational Church in Almont will officiate. Burial will be in Scotch Settlement cemetery, Almont.

George R. Rickman Sr.
Died: Wednesday, June 19, 2002

Lapeer

George R. Rickman Sr., 59, of Lapeer (formerly of Brown City), died Wednesday (June 19, 2002).
He was born June 18, 1943, in Louisa, Ky., to Floyd and Annie Rickman. He married Mary Catherine Kukes in 1977.
He was a retired auto mechanic having worked many years in Detroit at Metro-Disposal and several auto dealerships. Prior to that he had worked on the oil rigs in Texas.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane; sons, George, Matthew, Brian and Eric; three grandsons; brothers, Ira (Bessie) Rickman, Jack Rickman and Floyd (Diane) Rickman Jr.; also his good friends, Darey and Randy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family or the charity of your choice.
Funeral services were Saturday (June 22, 2002) at Carman Funeral Home, Brown City.

Sandra Lee Willis
Died: Wednesday, June 19, 2002
Age: 43

Roscommon

Sandra "Sandy" Lee (Angell) Willis, 43, of Roscommon, died Thursday (June 13, 2002) at West Branch Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 18, 1959, in Lapeer, to Robert C. and Leona A. (Nemeth) Angell.
She graduated from Imlay City High School in 1979. She lived in Texas before moving to Roscommon 18 months ago. She was employed as a restaurant manager.
She is survived by her mother, Leona Pritchard of Roscommon; siblings, Bobby (Leanna) Angell of Columbiaville, Johnny (Marsha) Angell of Roscommon and Dawn (Adam) Flores of Mt. Dora, Fla., Wesley Angell of Otisville; grandma Annie; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday (June 16, 2002) at Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon. The Rev. David Hansen officiated.

Helen L. Douthard
Died: Tuesday, June 18, 2002
Age: 82

Mayville

Helen L. Douthard, 82, of Mayville, died June 18, 2002 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
She was born Dec. 29, 1919, in Calhoun County, Ala., to Robert and Alice (Johnson) Ponder. She married James Douthard in Alabama on Aug. 22, 1937.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Ala. She worked for Firestone Tire Co. until her retirement in 1979. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Kathy) Douthard of Lapeer; grandchildren, Tim, Heidi and Misty; great-grandchildren, Aaron Mitchell Douthard, Austin Lee Douthard and Savannah Lynn Hamilton; and sister, Bernice King of Piedmont, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James.
Funeral services will take place at the Mickelson-McGee-Brown Funeral Home in Piedmont, Ala.

Ray Dean Brooks
Died: Monday, June 17, 2002
Age: 79

Okemos

Ray Dean Brooks, 70, of Okemos, died Monday (June 17, 2002) at Ingham Medical Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1932, in Lapeer, to Harrison and Belle (Paling) Brooks. He married Jean Davis in Biloxi, Miss. on Aug. 9, 1952.
He graduated from Lansing Business University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, 1952-1955. He was employed for General Motors from 1951-1952, he then worked for M.C. Smythe and Sons as a bookkeeper and later as a carpenter, retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Okemos; son, Ray II (Amanda) Brooks of Shaftsburg; daughters, Mary Kay (Jeffrey) Plotter of Perry and Jody (Roy) Hudson of Holt; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Gladys (Ben) Kuxhaus of Lapeer and Shirley Haynes of Lapeer; and twin sisters, Fay (Richard) Koenig of Lansing and Doris (Art) Ellsworth of Buelah.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mae Henry and Ruth Henry; and brothers, Elton and Bob Brooks.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer society.
Visitation was Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Perry.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday (June 20, 2002) at the funeral home.The Rev. Michael Hixson will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Plains cemetery, Shaftsburg.

Jeanette Dudley-Lutey, 81, of Oxford, died Sunday (June 16, 2002) at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born May 15, 1921 to Henley and Minnie (Ellison) Whiteaker. She married Richard Lutey.
She was a homemaker and a member of Thomas United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Daryl and Louis Whiteaker; and sister, Erma Dudley.
She is survived by her children, Donna (Bob) Williams of Lapeer, Carol Devault of Oxford, Louis (Anita) Dudley of Oxford, Edward (Janet) Dudley of St. Helen, Larry (Yvonne) Dudley of Oxford, Tim (Carole) Dudley of Oxford, Stanley (Lorrie) Dudley of Leonard, Richard (Ruth Ann) Dudley of Oxford; daughter-in-law, Chris Dudley of Lake Orion; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Wayne (Cathy) Whiteaker of Monroe, Dennis (Betty) Whiteaker of Monroe, Nathan (Nancy) Whiteaker of Monroe, Lovelda (Leonard) Ely of Monroe.
Funeral services were Tuesday (June 18, 2002) at Bossardet Funeral Home, Oxford. Burial was in Dawn Memorial Garden, Lapeer.

Lillian G. Fredericksen
Died: Sunday, June 16, 2002

Almont

Lillian G. Frederiksen, 77, of Almont (formerly of Detroit), died Sunday (June 16, 2002).
She was born April 22, 1925, in Detroit, to Joseph and Tecla (Bozek) Kobylarz. She married Walter W. Frederiksen at St. Lawrence Church in Detroit on Sept. 14, 1957.
She was a secretary for Ford Motor Co. in the Radio, TV and News Department, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Dryden.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Frederiksen of Almont; children, Walt (Jacqui) Frederiksen of Macomb, Susan Frederiksen of Almont, Donna (Andy) David of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; siblings, Mary Pawl of Westland, Jean (Frank) Costello of Westland, John Kobylarz of Maui, Hawaii, Ceil Kobylarz of Westland and Adeline McCusker of Westland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Irene McNallen; brother, Stan Kobylarz.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mass cards.
Funeral services were Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, Dryden. The Rev. Wayne Ureel officiated. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.

Phillip Wilbur Conley

Age: 55

Lapeer

Phillip Wilbur Conley, 55, of Lapeer, died Sunday (June 16, 2002).
He was born Dec. 27, 1946, in Deckerville, to Leroy and Helen (Hinkel) Conley. He married Pauletta Schalau in Lapeer on March 23, 1996.
He was a steelworker for Iron Workers Local 25 in Detroit. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 4139 in Lapeer and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 175. He attended St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, traveling sightseeing and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Pauletta of Lapeer; parents, Leroy and Helen Conley of Oscoda; sister, Kathy (Ken) Laubon of Oscoda; niece, Marcie Laubon of Oscoda; nephew, Craig Laubon of Oscoda; step-daughter, Lora (David) Tanis of New York; step-son, Kirk (Elizabeth) Schalau of Holt; and grandchildren, Megan, Joshua, Lindsay and Paul.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 175.
Funeral services were Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch. The Rev. Timothy Kuske officiated. Burial was in Meadow Lawn cemetery, Columbiaville.
