Lois L. Erwin, 85, Fairmont, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services were held Saturday at First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ in Fairmont, with interment in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont handled the arrangements.
Lois Lorena Colebank was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Madelia, the daughter of Frank and Nellie (McLaughlin) Colebank. She grew up in Madelia where she attended school and was a 1934 graduate of Madelia High School. Lois worked in Minneapolis and Bakersfield, Calif., where she was a typist in the typing pool for the defense plant. She married Ralph W. Hicks in 1943, in Bakersfield, Calif. He died in 1944, at which time Lois returned to Madelia, where she owned and operated "The Fashion Shop." Lois was united in marriage to Earl Erwin on July 24, 1956. They moved to Fairmont in 1958, where she worked at Wallace's Department Store and also did alterations for several years. She and her husband moved to Sleepy Eye and then retired to Branson, Mo. in 1985. Her husband died July 16, 1994, and Lois then returned to Fairmont in 1995, to be near her daughter. She was a member of First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, VFW Auxiliary, PTA and Order of the Eastern Star. Lois enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, playing cards, bird watching, fishing and camping.
Lois is survived by daughter, Vikki and husband Ed Langford of Fairmont; son, Steven and wife Karol Erwin of Sleepy Eye; 19 grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Anne and husband Ron Schroeder; and Pat and husband Charles Malsch, all of Wisconsin; stepson, Ed and wife Carol Erwin of Reedsburg, Wisc.; and brother, Don Colebank of Golden Valley. In addition to her parents and her husbands, Lois was also preceded in death by brothers, Earl and Lloyd Colebank and stepson, Ron Erwin.

Jordan Lee Jennings, 2, of Glenwood City, Wisc., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Gillette Children's Hospital, St. Paul, of complications from a drowning accident. Jordan is the daughter of Kevin and Sybil (Beltz) Jennings, formerly of the Mankato, New Ulm and Sleepy Eye areas. Funeral services were held Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery.
Jordan was born March 29, 1999, in Mankato, to Kevin Lee and Sybil Lyn (Beltz) Jennings. Jordan is survived by her parents, Kevin and Sybil Jennings of Glenwood City, Wisc.; brothers, Tyler and Dylan, both at home; maternal grandparents, Karen Beltz of Atlanta, Ga., and Steve and Rita Beltz of New Ulm; paternal grandparents, Richard and Susan DeMoss of Cottage Grove; maternal great-grandparents, Anna Peterman of Evan and Vic and Dorothy Christensen of Sleepy Eye; paternal great-grandparents, Clarence and Veda Ites of Mankato; aunts and uncles, Sally Beltz, Nicole and Jeremy Serbus, Andrew Beltz and Kurt Walden, all of New Ulm.

Leo Francis Lehar, 69, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital, Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Leo was born March 18, 1932, in Cairo Township, Renville County, to Harry and Felicitis (Palmer) Lehar. He attended St. Andrew's School and graduated from Fairfax High School. Leo entered the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He has lived in Fairfax, Douglas, Ariz., King City, Calif., and Sleepy Eye. Leo received the Silver Beaver Boy Scouts of America Award. He was a Scout Master for 25 years. Leo married Sylvia Moran on July 2, 1993. He enjoyed team roping, fishing, camping, square dance calling and gardening.
Leo is survived by his wife, Sylvia Moran; children, Mike and wife Norine Lehar of Tucson, Ariz., Katie and husband Scott Pearce of Folsom, Calif., Jim and wife Inabell Lehar of Rock Springs, Wyo., Glenn Lehar of Rock Springs, Wyo., Kevin and wife Dee Lehar of Hanford, Calif., Kenneth and wife Sally Lehar of Salinas, Calif., and Jeff and wife Tommijo Lehar of Sanmiguel, Calif.; step-children, Kathy and husband Chuck Spaeth of Sleepy Eye, Jane and husband Jeff Cook of Sleepy Eye, Marybeth and husband George Heim of Burnsville, Sheila LaPlant of Grand Rapids, and Bill and wife Judy Moran of Minnetonka; brothers and sisters, John and wife Barb Lehar, Helen Lehar, Charles Lehar, and Pat and wife Peggy Lehar, all of Fairfax; and brother-in-law, Bob Miller of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lehar; sisters, Ruth Miller and Rosemary Miller; sister-in-law, Betty Lehar; and step-son-in-law, Marcus LaPlant.
Memorials preferred to Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society and American Lung Association.

Luverne D. Lendt, 77, Springfield, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield. Funeral services were held Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home.
Luverne was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Courtland, the daughter of Reinhold and Elsie (Bruer) Dallmann. She moved to New Ulm at age seven, where she grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school, she worked at the New Ulm Telephone Company. Luverne married Robert Lendt on Oct. 24, 1943, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. The couple made their home southeast of Sleepy Eye in Sigel Township where they farmed for many years. The couple retired and moved to Sleepy Eye. Luverne was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed flowers and dancing.
Luverne is survived by her husband, Robert Lendt of Sleepy Eye; sons, Jim and wife Gail Lendt of Sleepy Eye and Tom and wife Sharon Lendt of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Amy and husband Dan Murphy, Kimberly Lendt and Mike Lendt; brothers, Jerry and wife Shirley Dallmann of Minden, Nev.; and Marlyn and wife Carol Dallmann of Sandpoint, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Harvey.

Christine A. Peichel, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Funeral services will be held Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in St. George Catholic Cemetery, St. George, at a later date. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to the service. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Christine was born May 20, 1910, in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, to John and Anna (Wurmstein) Peichel. She attended country school in District 44, Ridgely Township, Nicollet County. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1928, and then attended Mankato Business School in Mankato. She moved to St. Paul in 1950, where she worked for Midway Machine Company until retiring in 1972. She moved back to Sleepy Eye in 1985. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women and Christian Mothers Society.
Christine is survived by her sisters, Agnes Schnobrich of Sleepy Eye, and Amelia Jackson of St. Paul; brothers and sister-in-law, Albert Peichel of rural Fairfax and Larry and Jane Peichel of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elsie Palmer and Gertrude Peichel, in infancy; brothers, John, Otto, and Father Benedict Peichel; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Olive Peichel and Harry and Blanche Peichel; brothers-in-law, Edmund Schnobrich and Kenneth Jackson; and sister-in-law, Leona Peichel.

Ronald Miner James Schutt, 84, Oxnard, Calif., formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, Calif. Grave-side services are pending and interment will be in Riverside Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

Ronald, known as "R.J.," was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Sleepy Eye, to Edward Albert Schutt and Zelma Pearl Miner. He grew up and attended Sleepy Eye Public Schools. He was very active in the Boy Scout Organization, and, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. At the age of 15, he left school and joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Panama Canal Zone; attaining the rank of Master-Sergeant. After his tour of duty with the Army was over he returned to Sleepy Eye and was residing there when WWII broke out. He tried to re-enlist in the Army, but was unable to do so, so he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He served all over the Pacific Campaign as a gunnery Seaman 1st Class. While participating in the Solomon Island Campaign, he was awarded the Purple Heart. Shortly thereafter, he was a POW of the Japanese. After his release and return from the war, he resided in Sleepy Eye while working with his father, E.A. Schutt, in the construction trade. Eventually R.J. moved to Minneapolis, then to Buffalo, N.Y., New York City, and finally to Oxnard, Calif. He worked in construction trades all of his life. After retirement, he moved to Lomita, Calif., residing with his sister, Irene.
R.J. is survived by his sister, Irene Loose of Lomita, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Forest; half-sister, Vivian; and niece, Dianne.

Laverne "Trixie" Heiderscheidt, 49, Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Trixie was born Aug. 15, 1952, in Morgan, the son of Nicholas M. and Helen K. (Landkammer) Heiderscheidt. He grew up and attended school in Morgan, later attending public high school in Sleepy Eye. Trixie worked at Heiderscheidt Tile Yard for a few years until purchasing a grave-digging business in 1973, which he operated until the present time. Trixie married Deborah Bertrand on July 3, 1974, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, the KCs, Jaycees, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Trixie coached the Prairieville baseball team and enjoyed kids, racing, telling jokes, playing cards, gardening and wine-making. He especially enjoyed going to church as a family and then grilling his world-famous hamburgers made with his secret recipe.
Trixie is survived by his wife, Debbie of Sleepy Eye; children, Nichole and her fiance Dan Miller of Sleepy Eye, Heather and husband Andrew Hoffmann of Apple Valley, and Joseph Heiderscheidt of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Lawrence "Larry" and Diane, Leonard and Marcia, Lowell and Gail, Leo "Sam," Lyle and Diane, Lenus "Bopper" and Ginger, and LaMonte "Monte" and Chris, all of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Leona Heiderscheidt of Lakeville, Lois and James Filzen of Litchfield, LaDonna and Leon Helget of Sleepy Eye, Lynette and Grant Jensen of Springfield, Lorrayne Carlson and Rich Schaefer of Coon Raids, and LeAnn and Michael Duckett of Asheville, N.C.; mother-in-law, Marion Bertrand of Sleepy Eye; grandmothers-in-law, Frieda Sellner and Anna Bertrand, both of Sleepy Eye; brothers-in-law, Robert and Sherri Bertrand of Redwood Falls, William Bertrand of Rochester, and Jim and Denise Tauer of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Bert Bertrand.

Raymond J. Hoffmann, 71, rural New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest section. Full graveside military honors were conducted by the New Ulm Veterans organizations.
Raymond was born April 13, 1930, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to Frank Sr. and Agnes (Scheffler) Hoffmann. He attended country school in Sigel Township. Raymond served in the United States Army from January, 1953, to November of 1954. He farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County his whole life. Raymond was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm, the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council and the St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Raymond is survived by his sister, Angeline Kral of Sleepy Eye; brother, Frank Hoffmann, Jr. of rural New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hugo Hoffmann; and brother-in-law, Edward F. Kral.

Ferdinand Herman Krenz, 79, Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Funeral services were held Tuesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Evan with interment in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan.
Ferd was born July 28, 1922, in Prairieville Township, Brown County, the son of Ferdinand and Bertha (Utecht) Krenz. He attended School District #29 and Reisch School of Auctioneering in 1946. He served the community as an auctioneer for over 55 years. On Sept. 14, 1946, Ferd married Betty Adams at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan. Ferd was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and held office on the church council. He was a former member of the board of directors for the Brown County REA, a former member of the Lions and Eagles Clubs and the Masonic Lodge. Ferd enjoyed fishing, card playing, hunting, farming, being with his grandchildren, joking and story telling. In recent years he enjoyed helping his grandsons raise and sell sweet corn.
Ferd is survived by his wife, Betty Krenz of Sleepy Eye; they were blessed with seven sons, Pat and wife Michele, Larry and wife Kathy, Keith and wife Lynette, Mark and wife Chandra, Lynn and wife Joyce, and Rick and wife Patti, all of Sleepy Eye; and Ken and wife Jan of Morgan; 20 grandchildren, Elise, Stuart, Jeremy, Jeffery, George, Jason, Christopher, Jamie and husband Craig Lathert, Kristi, Scott, David, Holly, Nicole, Amanda, Ashley, Ariel, Amy, Kyle, Josh and Dan; one great-grandchild, Marcus Lang; sisters, Hildegard and husband Ray Meinert of Morgan, and Arlene and husband Milo Christensen of Morgan; sister-in-law, Helen Krenz of Mora; and brother-in-law, Jerry and wife Georgia Adams of Hudson, Wisc.; and also many cousins, nieces and nephews that share the sorrow of Ferd's passing. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Lochner and Verna Krenz; brothers, Arthur in infancy, Alfred, and Elroy; sister-in-law, Hazel; and brother-in-law, Ray Meinert.

Izola Miller, 90, of Stewartville, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at the Stewartville Care Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with interment in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Izola Rosamond Daugherty, the daughter of Asa H. and Mamie (Shanholtz) Daugherty, was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Chicago, Ill. As a child, she moved with her family to the Rapidan area and later Madelia, where she graduated from Madelia High School. She was united in marriage to Oliver R. Miller on Aug. 18, 1940, in Madelia. Following marriage, they lived in Madelia, moving to Springfield in 1950, and to Sleepy Eye in 1960. She worked as a nursing assistant and the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital for several years, and she also began studying at the former Union Hospital in New Ulm. The couple moved to New Ulm in the early 1970s where she worked as a nurse at Union Hospital for 10 years. She and her husband spent many winters in New Mexico. Following her husband's death in 1990, she continued to make her home in New Ulm until moving to Stewartville in June of 1999, to be near her daughter. She became a resident of the Stewartville in June of 1999, to be near her daughter. She became a resident of the Stewartville Care Center in September of 2001. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Ulm; Orient Chapter #60 Order of the Eastern Star of New Ulm, and had served as chaplain; Past Worthy Matron and member of the Ionic Chapter of the Eastern Star of Springfield; and a member of the Robert Taper Rebekah Lodge #29 of Bayard, N.M.
Izola is survived by her daughter, Kathleen and husband Terry Moore of Stewartville; granddaughters, Susan and husband Art Clocksin of Rochester, N.Y., and Gail and husband Jason Koch of Eagle Lake; sister-in-law, Elinor Daugherty of New Ulm; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Asa and Eldridge Daugherty; and her sister, Pearl Chase.

Edwin A. Moldan, 76, rural Comfrey, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Springfield Medical Center, Springfield. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Edwin was born Jan. 22, 1926, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to George and Mary (Sellner) Moldan. He attended District 46 country school, and also spent two years at St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye. Edwin lived on and operated the family farm his entire life. He enjoyed his dairy herd, hunting, fishing, playing cards, old time music and his dog, "Puppy." Edwin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, and St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. He was currently a member of the Catholic Aid Association.
Edwin is survived by brothers, William Moldan of New Ulm, Florian and wife Dorothy Moldan of Sleepy Eye, and Joe and wife Dodie Moldan of Hanska; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary; brother-in-law, Valerian Woratschka; sister-in-law, Phyllis Moldan; and nephews, Brian Woratschka and Doug Moldan.

Jennie K. Tauer, 92, Sleepy Eye, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with interment in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements. The family prefers memorials to Divine Providence Community Home, Sleepy Eye, or the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Jennie was born July 22, 1909, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to John T. and Emilia (Janni) Stadick. She attended District 68 country school in Sigel Township. On Oct. 16, 1934, she married Joseph W. Tauer at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage, the couple farmed on the home place in Sigel Township until 1968. After the death of her husband, Jennie moved into New Ulm, where she was very active in quilting at the parish center, and weekly quilting at her home with ladies coming to help. She also taught sewing to 4-H groups in Sigel Township, as well as entering and winning baking contests. Jennie enjoyed square dancing, bowling, bingo and playing cards. She had been a resident at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye since 1996. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the Christian Mothers Society.
Jennie is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis and Lee Brandt of rural New Ulm, Carol and Les Fluegge of New Ulm, and Peg Tauer of Aptos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mamie (Mary) Waibel of New Ulm; brothers, Louis Stadick and John Stadick, both of Winthrop, Theodore Stadick and Benno Stadick of New Ulm, and Leo Stadick of Downers Grove, Ill.; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph W. Tauer in 1968; a son in infancy; sister, Caroline Stadick; brothers, Herman Stadick in 1994 and Conrad Stadick in 2001; and a son-in-law, Robert Hoffman in 1970.

Dennis J. Treml, 66, of Hampton, and formerly of Brown County, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Augustana Home in Hastings. Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 20 at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. Interment is in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home in Hastings handled arrangements.
Dennis is survived by his wife Helen Treml of Hampton; son Gene (Lora) Treml of Lakeville; daughter LuAnn (Dave) Burandt of Chaska; sister Mary Sellner; brothers, Edwin Treml, James Treml, Michael Treml, and Leon Treml; sisters, Eileen Grund, Elaine Helget, Joan Shimasaki and Jeanette McMullen; and grandchildren, Anthony Burandt, Jayson Treml, Sydney Treml and Travis Treml. He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Agnes Treml; and brothers, Marvin and Jerome Treml.
Dennis J. Treml was born Aug. 5, 1935, to Michael and Agnes (Hillesheim) Treml in Brown County. He married Helen Hoffmann on Nov. 11, 1959, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Dennis worked as a carpenter and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Norbert J. Hauser, 84, New Ulm, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at New Ulm Medical Center, New Ulm. Funeral services were held Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church, New Ulm, with interment in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Norbert was born Nov. 20, 1917, in Milford Township, Brown County, to Charles and Mary (Sperl) Hauser. He farmed in rural Sleepy Eye and rural Winthrop until 1974. Norbert then worked as a handyman into his 80s. He was very generous when giving of himself, but found it difficult to accept favors and generosity from others. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church, New Ulm.
Norbert is survived by his daughters, Lynette Fischer of Stockton, Calif., and Joleen English of Sunnyvale, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Jeanne Hauser of Richfield; grandchildren, Greg Mathiowetz, Debra Hauser, Susan Fischer, Todd Fischer, Mindy Stroh, Larisa English and Janice English; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Jim Carrier of Waconia, Rosella "Sally" Ubl of Shakopee, and Betty and Paul Kubiszewski of Portner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Donna Hauser of Hammond, Wisc., and Jerome and Alice Hauser of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Norbert Hauser, Jr.; sister, Arlene Matilla; brothers, Eugene Hauser, Raymond Hauser, Roland "Smoky" Hauser, James Hauser, and a brother, Raymond Hauser in infancy.
