Gerald "Tony" Potz, age 79, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born Aug. 22, 1928 in Mankato to Martin and Marion Potz.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline; daughter, Becky Potz of Pequot Lakes; sisters, Norma Jean Preston of Mankato, Kathy Fleming of Garden City; brother, Dean Potz of Lake Crystal; three grandchildren, Sarah Glasby, Christopher Glasby, Adam Potz; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Potz, Jacob Potz, Ryan Potz, Isaac Potz, 1 step-great-granddaughter, Rachel Kelsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harlan; son, Michael; daughter, Toni, and grandson, Joel.

Services were Dec. 29 at Kline Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes with burial in Motley Public Cemetery.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Lawrence Huesmann

Backus

Lawrence Huesmann, age 78, of Backus, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, at his home. He was born Sept. 13, 1929 in St. Paul to Odillo and Ruth Huesmann.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; children: Roxanne Huesmann, Ruth Huesmann, Shelly Schug, Terry Huesmann; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, George Huesmann.

Services were Dec. 22 at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Terry L. Sopko

Wood Dale, Ill.

Terry L. Sopko was born March 31, 1942, in Chicago, son of the late Andy and Justine Sopko of Itasca, Ill. Terry married his wife, Ann, on March 28, 1981, in Jacksonville, Ill. He was father to Terrie Barker Day and grandfather to Christopher of Jacksonville, Ill.; father to Tim (companion, Anna Doyle) Barker of Elmhurst, Ill.; brother of Susan Fischer (Tex) of Tucson, Ariz.; son-in-law of Gladys Strain of Jacksonville, Ill.; brother-in-law of Charles Strain of Roodhouse, Ill., and John Strain (companion, Pat Dixon) of Roodhouse, Ill.; godfather of Kimberly Wittek Forte; uncle of many; and lifelong friend of Bob and Pat Wittek and family of Park Ridge, Ill.
Terry became an Eagle Scout during his youth and was a 1960 graduate of Lake Park High School, where he was the quarterback of the football team and led the Lancers golf team to a record season. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in finance and accounting and was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. His younger years were spent developing and selling real estate in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., for McCulloch Corp. He then moved to Breezy Point, Minn., where he sold land and timeshare for Whitebirch, Inc. 1990 brought Terry back to Chicago where he became vice president of sales and marketing for Wittek Golf Supply Inc. Terry was very well known and loved throughout the golf industry.

Terry was very active in life. He loved golf and was an excellent player. He was an accomplished pilot and flew his own plane (4192 Whisky) for many years. He loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, ice fishing, hunting and his cabin at Breezy Point. He was a people person and everywhere he went he made friends for life. He was one of a kind. Terry's laugh, his sense of humor and his upbeat attitude will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at The Oaks Funeral Home, Itasca, Ill. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Ill. A memorial service in his honor will be held this summer at Breezy Point. For information, call (630) 787-0955. Chera Glasby

Pine River

Chera Margaret Glasby, age 69, of Pine River, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Withee, Wis., to Frank and Pearl Grant.
She is survived by children, Greg Glasby of Minneapolis, Debra Vian (Dale) of Pine River, Diane McGarthwaite of Elk River, Bernard Glasby of Brainerd, Jacqueline Minatra (Roy) of Soldotna, Alaska, Carol Glasby of Pine River; grandchildren, Sarah Glasby, Christopher Glasby, Jinny McGarthwaite, Edward McGarthwaite, Amy Vian, Shelly Martin; great-grandchild, Cody Zierden; brother, Randal Grant; sister, Ellen Warnholtz; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony Glasby; infant brother, Laughlin; brother, Brian Grant; sister, Rose Quinn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River, with Father Bruce Engen officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Virginia M. Reimer

Pine River

Virginia M. Reimer, age 99, of Pine River, formerly of Loretto, Minn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center, Pine River. She was born June 26, 1908, in Loretto to Michael and Katherine Wagner.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Slaven (Jim) of Omaha, Neb., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; sisters, Luella, Evelyn and Mary Sue; brothers, Gerald and Gervase.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hastings. Burial was Tuesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.

Sandra Lee Loechler

Pequot Lakes

Sandra Lee (Nygard) Loechler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Jan. 28, 2008, at the age of 65, surrounded by her family as she wished. Sandy courageously battled a rare cancer, pseudo myxoma peritoei (PMP) for more than 10 years. Survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Tom Loechler; her sons, Joel (Doreen) and Jon (Natalie) Godfredson; stepdaughters, Laura (Mark) Daly, Jane Loechler, Susan (Mark) Thompson, and Beth Loechler; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her mother, Irleine (Keith) Weismann; her siblings, Elaine (John) Teschner, Pat (Tom) Montgomery, Bill (Kathleen) Nygard, and Jim (Kathy) Nygard; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Nygard.
Sandra was born and raised in northeast Minneapolis, spending her childhood in the Mississippi Courts. She attended Patrick Henry High School and continued her education at North Park College in Chicago, the U of M, and Augsburg College.

She was a multifaceted person with many talents. She loved the arts, drama, literature, film; and opera; her gardening skills earned her a justifiable "green thumb" label. She was a tenacious competitor at tennis, golf, volleyball, and softball; bridge was a true passion for her, she spent many enjoyable hours at the bridge table with her groups in Minnesota and Florida. She loved being outdoors, skiing, birding, and fishing in her beloved Lake Ossawinnamakee.

Most of all, she loved her family, always ready to open the lake home to countless friends and family. She will be missed by many.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, with a visitation starting one hour prior to services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.

Cary Leith Sinn

Lake Shore

Cary Leith Sinn, age 48, of Lake Shore, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at his home. He was born Nov. 13, 1959.
He is survived by his father, William Sinn of Lake Shore; mother, Shari Heitz of Shakopee; son, Colton; daughter, Brogan; brother, Brent Sinn; sister, Jill Sinn; nieces, Taylor, Natalie, Riley, Hailey; nephews, Zachary, Tyler; and former wife, Kathy Sinn.

Services were 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Christ Lutheran Church, Shakopee, and 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.

Robert Mundem

Brainerd

Robert Mundem, age 68, of Brainerd, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008.
He was born June 6, 1939, in Minneapolis.

Survived by wife, Beth; children, Mark Mundem, Mary Hiltner (Brian), Mathew Mundem; and six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, Mac and Elsie Mundem.

Memorials may be sent to University of Minnesota Cancer Research.

Dr. Robert W. Hollenhorst

Rochester

Dr. Robert W. Hollenhorst, 94, a Mayo Clinic physician, died Jan. 10 in Rochester. He was a pioneer in the field of neuro-ophthalmology and published more than 90 scientific papers. Some of his work described a phenomenon now known as "Hollenhorst Plaques," cholesterol bodies sometimes found in blood vessels of the retina. They are useful in diagnosing the risk of stroke and other circulatory conditions.
He was a founder of the Minnesota Pre-School Survey of Vision and Hearing and, for 30 years, was Consulting Ophthalmologist to Minnesota State Services for the Blind. Because of his contributions to the state, Gov. Arne Carlson proclaimed April 24, 1991, as "Dr. Robert Hollenhorst Day."

Dr. Hollenhorst was a member of many medical boards and associations, including terms as president of the American Ophthalmological Society (AOS) and vice chairman of the American Board of Ophthalmology. In 1986, he was awarded the prestigious Howe Medal by the AOS.

Robert Hollenhorst was born in St. Cloud on Aug. 12, 1913. After studies at St. Cloud State Teachers College, St. John's University, and the University of Minnesota Medical School, he earned Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine, and Doctor of Medicine degrees.

Dr. Hollenhorst served in the Army Medical Corps in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for his medical role in several amphibious landings in New Guinea and the Philippines.

Following his discharge from the Army in 1946, Dr. Hollenhorst began his career as an ophthalmologist at the Mayo Clinic and Professor of Ophthalmology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He retired in 1979 and lived in the Brainerd lakes area before moving back to Rochester in 1996.

Dr. Hollenhorst was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Alice Nolan Hollenhorst, who died last month. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Father Mark Hollenhorst and Stephen (Carla) Hollenhorst of Roseville; by his parents; and by four of his nine siblings.

Dr. Hollenhorst is survived by seven of his nine children, Dr. Robert Hollenhorst Jr., of Duluth, Michael (Sandra) Hollenhorst of Orono, Mary (Bob) Lazarus of Millbrae, Calif., John (Swantje) Hollenhorst of Salt Lake City, James (Mary) Hollenhorst of Saratoga, Calif., Kathleen (Bob) Pohly of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Thomas Hollenhorst of St. Louis Park. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five of his nine siblings.

Dr. Hollenhorst and his wife will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in June 2008. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Minnesota Public Radio or the Minnesota State Services for the Blind.

Alice Mullin

Alliance, Neb.

Alice G. (Kossow) Mullin was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Deer River, Minn., to Carl and Gertrude Kossow. She was the third of five children. She died Jan. 8, 2008, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Alliance, Neb. She had lived in her home in Alliance until a few days before her death. Alice had been struggling for two years with a condition know as primary progressive aphasia. Even though she had not been able to speak, read or write for over a year, she continued caring for her dog, home and yard until a few months before her death.
Alice married Roger C. Mullin on Feb. 13, 1949. They resided in several communities in Minnesota, Nebraska, Montana and South Dakota during their marriage.

Roger preceded her in death on May 23, 1992.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald Kossow of Washington.

She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Deborah) Nelson of Pequot Lakes, Minn., Mrs. Timothy (Sally) Dahlberg of Alliance, Neb., and son, Patrick (Sonja) Mullin of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at age 19 and remained a faithful servant until her death. Her deep love of the Bible and her hope for the future were passed on to many others. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, caring for her dogs, walking and especially helping her family with their many projects. They will miss her fudge making, pie baking and cookie nibbling.

She leaves behind many friends who will miss her dearly. A private memorial service will be held in Jenkins, Minn., at a future date.

Guy Herbert Wannebo

Pine River

Guy Herbert Wannebo, age 83, died peacefully at the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home, Pine River, Minn., on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, with family and friends by his side.
He was born in Phillips, Wis., to Otto and Myrle (Thompson) Wannebo on Nov. 16, 1924.

In 1929, the Otto Wannebo family moved to Minneapolis.

In 1942, Otto Wannebo sold his business and moved the family to Manhattan Beach, where they created the Shangri-La Farm. Together, the family turned it into one of the top registered Guernsey farms in Minnesota.

He met Mary Ann Dougherty at a Pine River dance hall and they were married in 1945.

Prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army, Guy worked for Northwest Airlines in Canada. While in the Army, he served in the Pacific from 1945-1946. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to live with his family on the Shangri-La Farm.

In 1947, at the age of 23, he bought his first bulldozer and started Wannebo Excavating that continues in business today. At age 67, he sold the excavating business to employees and sons in 1991.

After retirement, he was active in real estate development. He enjoyed hunting, teaching his sons his art for knowing where to hunt and the nature of the prey.

He also enjoyed bowling at which he made many friends at the lanes in Manhattan Beach and Pine River. Guy was a charter member of Community Bowl in Pine River.

Over the years, he was active in community service, including Manhattan Beach Civil Defense Director, constable, city council, mayor and, most recently, planning and zoning. He also served on the Crow Wing County land committee and on the county highway committee. He served two terms on the Pine River School Board.

During his business and community work, many of his excavating customers became his good friends.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Ann, Cuyuna Care Center; and sons, Larry (Marilyn), Doug (Gail) and Steve (Barb Hanson), all of Manhattan Beach.

Grandchildren are Christina (John) Freund of Northfield; Chaune (Nick) Warman of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Ben (Lisa) of St. Cloud; Seth (Amy), Isaac Wannebo, Manhattan Beach; Stephanie Wannebo, Brainerd; and Luke and Zach Hanson, Manhattan Beach; and the family cat, Miss Kitty.

Great-grandchildren are Elena, Dan and Lucy Freund; Dominic, Dahlton and Mason Warman; Vance and Miles Wannebo.

Guy's brothers and sisters are Vivian Tweedy, Lucy Thompson, Curt (Dorothy) Wannebo, and Dona (Lon) Musolf. He is also survived by sister-in-law Barbara Lytle of Circle, Mont.

Guy and the Wannebo family would like to thank Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home, Cuyuna Care Center, Good Samaritan Hospice of Nisswa, and the Home Instead-Baxter staff for their care and companionship during his illness. Thanks also to the many friends and relatives who visited him during his battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Funeral services and memories will be shared at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, east of Pine River, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Swanburg Cemetery.

Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and at the church one hour before the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home in Pine River.

Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
