Annamae Gloria Dill was born in Chicago, IL on October 2, 1927, to Eric and Helen M. (Skar) Mattson. As a youngster she moved to St. Paul with her family, where she attended school. She was married to her husband of 35 years, Lawrence James Dill, in St. Paul, on June 24, 1965. They lived in Roseville, and Gloria did clerical work for Bell Telephone Company. They moved to Brainerd upon their retirement 10 years ago, and spent the winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Gloria attended the Lutheran Church, and belonged to a Garden Club. She and Lawrence enjoyed attending flea markets, where she collected old dishes and glassware. She enjoyed time spent entertaining family and friends.
Gloria Dill is survived by her husband Lawrence; two daughters, Mary Froemel of St. Paul, and Carmen Parks of Sydney, MT; five sons, William (Jill) Harkins of Vadnais Heights, Eugene “Gene” Harkins of Vadnais Heights, Chester Harkins of Fresno, CA, Larry Dill of Sydney, MT, and Garry (Dorothy) Dill of Big Lake; two sisters, Gayle (James) Kincannon of Chaska, and Meri (Michael) Young of St. Paul; a brother Eric (Pat) Mattson of Stacy; ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Craig, and a son Michael.

Thiel F. Horn

Thiel F. Horn, age 72, of rural Pillager, died Sunday, September 14, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Thiel Francis Horn was born August 6, 1931, in Bridgeman, to Emory and Carrie (Olson) Horn. He attended the Sunrise School in May Township. He moved to Chicago in 1952, where he worked in metal finishing his entire career. He was united in marriage to Stanalene Cichanski on October 10, 1959, in Oak Park, Illinois. Following his retirement in 1996, the couple returned to the Casino area. Thiel attended Casino Assembly of God Church. He loved the outdoors and nature, and enjoyed hunting deer, quail, and pheasant. He also enjoyed gardening and yard work.
Thiel is survived by Stanalene, his wife of 43 years; a daughter, Vera Horn, of DesPlaines, IL; a son, Larry Horn, of Glen Ellyn, IL; three sisters, Annabell Patrick, of Baxter, Cena (Dennis) Stolz, of San Diego, CA, and Hulda Kay Dondelinger, of East Gull Lake; three brothers, Theron (Evelyn) Horn, of Cochran, John (Lucy) Horn, of New Buffalo, and David (Barb) Horn, of Pillager; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 19, 11 AM, at Casino Assembly of God Church in rural Pillager, with Reverend Mike Broberg officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, September 18, from 4-8 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will be at Bridgeman Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.

Daniel Willert

Daniel Willert, 83, of Brainerd, died Wednesday, October 1, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Daniel was born August 29, 1920 in Forest, WI to Bert and Eva (Rothe) Willert. He farmed for a few years before moving to the Twin Cities Area. In 1943 he joined the Navy until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was united in marriage to Rita Hubner January 20, 1956 in Hudson, WI. He worked as a mechanic for 13 years before becoming part of the Pako Corporation where he worked until his retirement in 1982. They moved to Deer River following his retirement and then moved to rural Brainerd in 1990. Daniel was a member of the American Legion and the St. Francis Catholic Church. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially creating flower boxes, hunting and fishing.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita; one daughter, Kimberly (Ian) Thomsen of Arvada, CO; two sons, Randy (Kimberly) Willert and Mark (Holly) Willert both of Brainerd; two sisters, Bernice Johnson of Amery, WI, Phyllis Johnson of Minnetonka; one brother, Norman Willert of Menomonie, WI; four grandchildren, Deanne, Krista, Jeffrey, Thomas. His parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded Daniel in death.

Funeral Services will be held on 10:30 AM Saturday, October 4 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Relatives will receive friends at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Friday evening 5 PM to 8 PM with Parish Prayers at 7 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 10 AM. Burial at Minnesota’s State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel, Baxter.

Michael Seibert

Michael Seibert, age 57, of Crosslake, MN died Friday, December 13, 2002 at his home in Crosslake. Mike was born October 7, 1945 in Pine River, MN to Jack and Toni (Fuller) Seibert. He graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, MN. He went on to graduate from West Minster College in Fulton, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Barbara Seipp on May 31, 1971 in Tyler, MN. Following their marriage they lived in Arizona for 26 years.
Michael Seibert is survived by his: wife Barbara Seibert of Crosslake, sister, Caroline Seibert of Mount Vernon, WA, brother, David Seibert of Glendale, AZ, niece, Shawna Seibert of Glendale, AZ, nephew David Seibert of Flagstaff, AZ, and special companion, his black Labrador, Buddy. His parents preceded Mike in death.

Services will be held privately for Mike.

Fred L. Kunkel

Fred L. Kunkel, 92, of Brainerd, died November 11 at Bethany Covenant Home in Minneapolis. Fred was born to Joseph and Mae (Black) on September 18, 1911 in Shambaugh, IA. He moved with his family at an early age to the family farm near Pillager. He graduated from Pillager High School. As a young man he spent several years working in the fruit orchards in Washington State. He was united in marriage to Doris Anderson on June 4, 1942 in Uppsala. He entered the United States Army during World War 11 and served in the European Theatre with the 95th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Metz and Battle of the Bulge. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Brainerd and worked at Nash Finch from 1945 - 1953. In 1953 the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he built a church for the Baptist General Conference. They returned to the Brainerd Area where he worked at Lakeland Color Press until his retirement in 1976. His wife Doris died in May of 1961. In 1971 he married Helen Johnson of Storden. She died in April of 1984. He moved to the Bethany Covenant Home in Minneapolis to be near his family in November 2002. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Baxter. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Fred is survived by daughter, Kathy (Richard) Magnus of Chicago, IL; son, Bruce (Sherrie) Kunkel of Arden Hills; stepsons Lyndon Johnson of Peoria, Arizona, Dennis Johnson of Mankato; sister Bernice Nelson of Coon Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His wife, Doris, wife, Helen, parents and 2 sisters Wilma Knoll and Lucille Nelson preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 15 at First Baptist Church of Baxter with Reverend David Grotzke officiating. Friends may visit from 5 to 8 PM Friday, November 14 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church of Baxter or Bethel College & Seminary of St. Paul. Joyce Elaine Callender

Joyce Elaine Callender, age 70, of Crosslake and Hobe Sound, FL, died on Friday, April 27, 2001, in Stuart, FL. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, May 4, 11:00 AM, at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, officiated by Reverend Doctor Paul Fruth and Reverend Dennis Hoffman. Friends may visit on Thursday, May 3, from 5-8:00 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association are preferred. Arrangements by Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Joyce Hanson Callender was born on October 18, 1930 in North St. Paul, Minnesota to Edwin and Filisty (Chavie) Hanson. Her family began vacationing in the Lakes area while she was young. She grew up and attended schools in St. Paul. She was united in marriage to Robert Kise and they lived in St. Paul. She worked as a homemaker. She also worked and volunteered at St. John’s Hospital. Robert died on December 9, 1985. Joyce was married to John Callender in Wayzata, Minnesota on November 27, 1987. They moved to Crosslake. They wintered in Texas, and, more recently, in Florida. Joyce was an active member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church of Crosslake, where she did a great deal of volunteer work. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and knitting sweaters.

Joyce Callender is survived by her husband John; 6 children, Brian (Jane) Kise, Edina, David (Vickie) Kise, Andover, Sandra (John) Rasmussen, Missoula, MT, John (Joan) Callender II, Shorewood, Steven (Marcia) Callender, Brooklyn Park, and Alison (Michael) Mooney, FL; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Robert Kise, and her parents preceded her in death.

Robert Thomas Maley

Robert Maley, age 82, of Edina, formerly of Arlington Heights, IL died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Services will be At Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in Edina on Friday, October 12 at 1 PM. There will be a visitation with lunch, at noon. Interment will be at Fort Snelling at 2 PM with military honors provided by the Richfield VFW Post #5555. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to the Healing Garden at Bethany Good Samaritan Village. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Robert Thomas Maley was born September 6, 1919 in Chicago, IL son of Robert William & Lucille (Kiebel) Maley. He was united in marriage to Elaine Milke on January 19, 1945 in Chicago, IL. Robert served in the United States Army during World War 11 from March 17, 1941 to May 19, 1945 and received the Bronze Star. After his honorable discharge he worked as regional manager of Harold M. Pitman Graphic Supplies. He was a member of the Richfield VFW Post #5555. Robert enjoyed golf and gardening.

Robert is survived by daughters, Cheryl (James) Gelbman of Brainerd, MN, Denise (Brian) Schmitz of Robbinsdale, MN, Terrie Maley of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Daniel, Jane, Caitlin and Joe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine.

Vicky Brown

Vicky L. Brown, 54, of Brainerd, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Friday, July 23, 11 a.m., at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with Reverend Father Bill Skarich officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, July 22, 6-8 p.m., at Brenny Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
Vicky Lou Billman was born November 3, 1949 in Brainerd, to Harry and Betty Lou (Neiderer) Billman. She grew up and attended school in Brainerd. She was united in marriage to Dwight Brown in Brainerd on December 2, 1972. The couple later divorced. She worked for many years as a cook at Bethany, and for several years as a personal care attendant at Oakridge Home in Brainerd. Vicky loved to fish, and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed gambling at area casinos.

Vicky is survived by her sons, Chad Brown, of Moorhead, Shay Brown and fiance Krystal Eberly, of Brainerd; her siblings, Harry “Butch” (Chris) Billman, of Crosslake, Keith (Cathy) Billman, of Brainerd, Craig (Janet Towes) Billman, of Brainerd, Alan (Stacy) billman, of Merrifield, Debbie (Dale) Kuhn, of Brainerd, and Kay (Tom) Slukich, of Brainerd; many nieces and nephews; and special friend and longtime companion, Gary Peterson, of Brainerd. Her parents and a son, Christopher Brown, preceded her in death.

Alma "Daisy" Matthews
January 9, 1926 - August 22, 2001

Alma “Daisy” Matthews, age 75, of Pequot Lakes died at her home on Friday, August 17, 2001. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 22, 1:00 PM, at the Mildred Bible Chapel in Backus. Friends may visit at the Mildred Bible Chapel on Tuesday, August 21, from 5-7:00 PM. Private interment services will be at the Poplar Cemetery. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel in Brainerd/Baxter.
Alma Matthews was born in Pine River, MN on January 9, 1926, to Delbert E. and Jenny (Boyer) Brant. She completed her GED with a clerical cluster in Fargo, ND. She was married to Clayton Boyer on October 17, 1945, in Brainerd. Clayton died on January 17, 1962. Alma was married to Chester Matthews on February 18, 1992. She was again widowed, on December 23, 1997. She lived with her son in Pequot Lakes. She was a member of the Poplar Ladies Birthday Club, and the Senior Citizens Clubs in Motley and Pequot Lakes.

Alma Matthews is survived by her son, Daryl Boyer of Pequot Lakes; her daughter, Luana (Loni) Kaufman of Fargo, ND; three sisters, Evelyn Stang of Hemet, CA, Faith Dabill of Pine River, and Carol Holden of Finland, MN; a brother, Floyd Brant of Hemet, CA; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her husbands, one sister, and three brothers preceded her in death.

Erika Dalquist
April 18, 1981 - October 30, 2002

Erika Marie Dalquist was born April 18, 1981 to Colleen (Boone) and Duane Dalquist in Little Falls, MN. Erika grew up in Randall and attended school there until her family moved to the Pillager area in 1992. During all four years of high school, Erika was a cheerleader, played in the band and sang in the choir. In 1999, Erika graduated from Pillager High School. She was employed by Meyer Associates Teleservices. It was her dream to join the Air Force; and she was only a test away from realizing this dream. Erika relished taking time to hang out with friends and family. She loved animals and music and had a great sense of humor. She had the uncanny ability to make new friends wherever she went. She was lovingly referred to as “Sunny” by many of her friends.
Erika is survived by her parents, Colleen and Duane Dalquist; brothers, Steven and Thomas; grandparents, Richard and Delores Dalquist, of Randall, Mary Boone, of Randall; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James Boone.

Funeral services for Erika will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 4, at Lakewood Free Evangelical Church in Baxter, with Reverend Kathryn Ingbritsen officiating. Friends may visit 4-8 p.m., Thursday, June 3, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will be at a later date, at the Randall City Cemetery.

Donna Mae Lamke

Donna Mae Lamke, 71, of Crosslake, died July 4 at her home. According to her wishes, no services will be held. Donna is survived by her children, Laura Dingman, of Brooklyn Center, Steven Lamke, of Ellsworth, Wisconsin, and Leslie Olson, of Corcoran; and two grandchildren.

Constance "Connie" McCollum

Constance “Connie” McCollum, age 46, of Brainerd, Minnesota died Thursday, November 9, 2000. Services will be Monday, November 13, at 11 AM with Reverend David Holte officiating at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Visitation will be Sunday November 12 from 4 - 6 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Brainerd. Arrangements are pending with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Constance “Connie” McCollum was born August 6, 1954 in Knoxville, Illinois daughter of Glenn and Carole (West) Reed. Connie lived in Galesburg, and Knoxsville Illinois where she grew up and attended school. In 1978 she moved to Kelsey, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Raymond McCollum on February 7, 1988 in Brainerd. Connie worded at Potlatch where she was a Union Steward. She was active in the DFL, The Eagles Club, and women’s bowling league. Connie enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, dancing and camping.

Connie is survived by her husband, Ray; 2 sons, Daniel Parks of Brainerd, Raymond McCollum, III at home; 3 daughters, Christina Garza of Texas, Deanna (Allen) Horak of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Melissa McCollum at home; her father Glenn of Rio, Illinois; a sister Vicki Bobbit of Ringtown, Pennsylvania and 1 grandchild. Her mother and a brother preceded her in death.
