Catherine Koziol

A Mass of Christian Burial for Catherine Peggy Koziol, 93, of Delano, formerly of Watertown, was Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Watertown, with Rev. Frank Wampach officiating.

Music was by Rose Ann Motzko, organist, with the church choir and Alice Nowak, soloist. Pallbearers were John Koziol, Eddie Chmielewski, Joe Chmielewski, Susie Chmielewski, Harold Nowak and Bob Hanson.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Koziol died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Delano Heathcare Center.

She was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Silver Lake the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Pawalk) Chmielewski. She was married to Theodore Koziol.

Mrs. Koziol was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; brothers, John, Thomas and Frank Chmielewski; sisters, Sister Pauline (Frances), Stella Chmielewski, Barbara Mallak and Elizabeth Nowak.

Survivors include sons, Leonard and Carol of California, and Richard and Donna of Blaine; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Ann Nolan of Minneapolis and Agnes Dolezal of Silver Lake.

Margaret Kress

Margaret G. Kress, 75, of St. Michael died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001.

She is preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by husband, Edward; children, Millan, Dan and Colleen Zarich; grandson, Alexander; three step-children; sister, Alice Palmateer; many other relatives and friends.

Procession left 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, from Klecatsky and Sons Funeral Home, 1580 Century Pt., Eagan, for 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Historic Church of St. Peter, Mendota.

Mary Martinson

Services for Mary M. Martinson, 56, of Maple Grove, were Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at 1 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Joseph "The Little Church", 13015 Rockford Rd., Plymouth.

Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Mrs. Martinson died Monday, Aug. 6,

She is survived by loving husband of 33 years, Wayne; children, Meredith (Todd) Gray, Kara and Matthew; grandchildren, Danielle and McKay Gray; sisters, Dianne Doll, Carolyn (David) Carlson, Patricia (Bob) McElhaney and Fran Bohn; brother, Gerald (Darlene) McDonald; also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Elizabeth Proehl

Services for Elizabeth Proehl, 85, formerly of Hamel and Lutsen, were Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at Elim Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale.

Interment was in Mt. Olive of Plymouth Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Proehl died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001. She was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth.

She is survived by sister, Edith Sandhoff; nieces, nephews and their families, Karen and Jerome Jensen, Shirley and Bob Nygaard, Donald and Linda Proehl, Jim Proehl, and Jean and Bruce Neumann; and family in Denmark.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Humane Society or your favorite charity.

Anthony Polingo

Services for Anthony Herman Polingo, 94, of Annandale, formerly of Montrose, were Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at St. Mary's of Czestochowa Catholic Church in Franklin Township.

Rev. James Livingston, officiated. Music was by Karen Otto and the church choir. Pallbearers were Edward Polingo, Robert Polingo, Ronald Nalewaya, Jim Otto, Peter Gallus and Alfred Salonek.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Polingo died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at the Annandale Health Care Center. He was born May 1, 1907, in Woodland Township the son of Frank and Florence (Schmidt) Polingo. He lived with his parents, south of Montrose; went to country school and Montrose High School; played saxophone in a Waverly band; worked in New Brighton for a time, but came home again after his dad passed away. He later became ill and had to be taken care of, which was when he made his home at Country Meadow near Annandale, where he resided until he was moved to Annandale Health Care Center for additional nursing care.

Mr. Polingo was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Florence (Schmidt) Polingo; step-sister, Mamie and John Gabrelcik; brothers, John (Elizabeth) Secora, Peter, Frank (Mattilda) Mallock, and George (Irene) Ramola; sisters, Catherine (John) Salonek, Mattilda (John) Gallus, Margaret (Joe) Malewaya, and Claude Hutter.

Survivors include his sister, Florence and (John 'Jack') Otto and many nephews, nieces and special friends at Country Meadow near Annandale.

James Sis

Services for James (Jim) L. Sis, 54, of Champlin were Monday. Aug. 13, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson St., Anoka.

Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; sons, Jeff (Jesse), Eric (Katie); parents, Lee and Etta; father-in-law, Clarence; two brothers, seven sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; many living relatives and friends.

Helen Rentz

Services for Helen Rentz, 88, of Buffalo were Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Rev. Paul R. Settergren officiated.

Mrs. Rentz died Friday, Aug. 3, at the Park View Care Center.

She was born in Rockford Aug. 7, 1912, the daughter of Emil and Minnie Kelm Loeffler.

She was baptized Aug. 25, 1912, at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenwood Township. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith Aug. 15, 1926, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

On Nov. 11, 1931, Helen E. Loeffler and Raymond A. Rentz were joined in holy marriage in Rockford Township. God blessed their marriage with two children.

Mrs. Rentz and her husband engaged in farming in Rockford Township for many years.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover.

She is survived by children, Elwood (Carol) Rentz and Dee (Dean) Hanson, all of Buffalo; grandchildren, Mike (Mary) Rentz, Mark (Pam) Rentz, Marcy (Bob) Folks, Cindy (Rod) Johnson and Kathy (Dan) Jaramillo; six great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Loeffler; sisters-in-law, Regina Marschel and Mabel Hoh, all of Buffalo; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Rentz, April 1, 1999, and by her parents.

Pauline Grace Roehl

Memorial service for Pauline Grace Roehl, 83, formerly of Maple Grove, will be Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at 2 p.m. at American Martyrs Church, 624 15th St., Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Mrs. Roehl died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, Aug. 1.

A Manhattan Beach resident for 55 years, Pauline was born Feb. 22, 1918, to Otto and Pauline Krienke in Minneapolis. She was raised on the family farm in Maple Grove. She was devoted to her parents, who died when she was very young, and to her five siblings who helped each other survive their loss. Her older sister Victoria and her husband Albert Joyner moved to the family farm to care for the younger children.

Pauline and her sister's children, Albert Jr., Lyn, and Gwen, became as close as siblings. Pauline graduated at age 16 from Osseo High School in 1934. In 1936 she graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College; at the age of 18 she began seven years of teaching in rural one-room schools. Some of the eighth grade boys were almost her age and a lot taller too. To be near the school, Pauline boarded with a local family. When they took her to a family gathering, she met John Roehl, whom she married on June 14, 1941. Together they raised four children and then became the ever willing child care center for their 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sharing in the joys of all their accomplishments.

Mrs. Roehl's patience, skills, games, songs and prayers created fond memories. Besides serving her own family, she volunteered in scouting, Christian education, Altar Society, 55+ Club, Beach Pixies Auxiliary of the Children's Home Society, and the local election board. She was a 51-year attendee at the Beach Cities Symphony Orchestra concerts.

Mrs. Roehl touched many lives and will always be remembered for her quiet example of Christ's love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline (Kottke) and Otto Krienke, her sister and brother-in-law, Albert Joyner and Victoria Krienke Joyner; brothers Victor, Charles, Clinton and Oliver Krienke, and nephew Al Joyner.

Her loving husband, John, with whom she shared a 60th wedding anniversary on June 14, 2001, survives her.

She is also survived by her children, Grace Van Dusen and her husband Gary, Marci Nobriga Dollinter and husband Mike, Gary Roehl and wife Deb, and Marie Craig and husband Paul; grandchildren Geoffrey Van Dusen, Gail Van Dusen Campos and husband Dave, Gloria Van Dusen and husband Steve Kleine, Gretchen Van Dusen and husband Grant, Christa Nobriga Porter and husband Clem, Keith Nobriga and wife Cindi, Cyndi Nobriga, Jen Nobriga Kakoschke and husband Regan, Jason Nobriga, Jake Roehl and wife Holly, Becci Roehl Twombley and husband Dennis, Lisa Roehl, John Craig, Matthew Craig and Kevin Craig; great-grandchildren Anthony Campos, Rosa Campos, Elise Kleine, Janelle Axton, Jeanna Axton, Jackie Porter, Katie Nobriga, Kelsie Nobriga, Kimberly Nobriga and Piper Twombley, nephew Lyn Joyner of Champlin, and niece Gwen Joyner Christensen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Donald Toomey

Services for Donald E. Toomey, 82, of Corcoran were Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at Gearty-Delmore Chapel of Plymouth.

Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

A former POW, Mr. Toomey served as a navigator with the 465th Bomb Group H of the 781st Bomber Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant.

He was a member of American Ex-POW Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Loretta Toomey; sister, Margaret Hartkopf and Anna James; brothers, Joseph and John Toomey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Fay; children and spouses, Marlene Toomey, April (Lonnie) Kraatz, and Randall (Laurie) Toomey; grandchildren, Jesse, Chad, Tasha and Justin Toomey, and Andrea, Nicolette and Jason Kraatz; great-grandchildren, Malik and Jamal; sisters, Mary Roitenberg, Agnes Thielges, Pat McGovern, Dorothy Scoville, Frances Hickley and Donna Godknecht; brothers, Richard and Paul Toomey; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Curtis Torfin

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Curtis V. Torfin, 79, of Clinton, Wash., formerly of Delano, will be Saturday, Aug. 18, at 2 p.m. at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano.

Interment will be at Wannaska, Minn.

Mr. Torfin died July 31, 2001. He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Wannaska, Minn., to Clarence and Mabel (Dahl) Torfin. He married Clarian Roragen of Fertile, Minn., in 1946, and they had 10 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Clarian; sons Ronald, Roger, and Mark; and brothers Ivan and Vincent.

He is survived by wife Verna of Clinton, Wash., whom he married in 1982; brother Duane (Jean) Torfin; children, Gary (Cindy), Dan (Sally), David (Denise), Cheryl (Mike) Warzeha, Sandy (Jon) Hartin, Cindy (Barry) Lemmage, and Susan (Darryl) Kettenacker; stepchildren, Gloria Craig, Shirley (John) Huffine, Joan Rutherford, Clark Goldthorp, and Mike (Jaymie) Shenaman; 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Torfin entered the service in 1942, and served the Army Air Corps as a gunner on a B-24. He flew 50 missions over Italy and other European countries while with the 376 Bomb Group. He worked as construction electrician with IBEW Local 292 prior to moving to Washington. He was a 40-year member of the AA family and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. At the time of his death, he was Commander and Past Commander of the VFW Post 7482 in Clinton, and the president of the 376 Bomb Group Veterans Association.

Merlin Blair

Services for Merlin Dean Blair, 42, of Elk River were Monday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Osseo United Methodist Church, 16 Second Ave. S.E., Osseo.

Burial was in Rush Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Blair was born Nov. 29, 1958 in Golden Valley. He died Monday, Aug. 6, in a work related accident in Monticello.

Mr. Blair grew up in Osseo.

He was preceded in death by mother Adell.

Survivors include wife, Penny of Elk River; daughters, Heather and Heidi Blair; father, Woody Blair of Maple Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Janet Blair of Rockford, Curt and Wyonne Blair of Onalaska, Wis., Randy and Sue Blair of Monticello; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Dave Heifort of Albertville, Merilyn Blair of Brooklyn Park and Cheryle and Mike Johnson of Andover.

Memorials may be given to the Merlin Dean Blair Memorial Fund, 6000 Brooklyn Blvd., Brooklyn Center, Minn. 55429.

Jarvis Harff

Services for Jarvis Harff, 62, of Rockford were Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Rev. Delburn Kurtz officiated and interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery in Rockford with military rites. Leroy Peterson, Gilbert Peterson, Jack Russek, Lawrence Pettit Loren Harff, Duane Beise and David Johnson served as the casket bearers.

Mr. Harff died Thursday, July 26, 2001 at his residence.

He was born in Minneapolis Oct. 14, 1938, the son of John "Jack" and Vivian Peterson Harff.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was formerly employed in the manufacturing of windows.

He is survived by a sister Shirley (William) Kostka of Grand Rapids; a niece, Cecelia (Gene) Hubbard; nephews, Michael Johnson and David Johnson; two aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Jarvis was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Jerome Harff in 1953.

Ronald Kahring

A memorial service for Ronald Kahring, 57, of Maple Grove, formerly of St. Charles, was Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Chapel of Plymouth.

Private interment.

Mr. Kahring died Aug. 1, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born May 21, 1944 in St. Charles, to the late Kermit and Esther (Melvin) Kahring.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet (Sharp) of Maple Grove; children, Christopher of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michelle of Inver Grove Heights, and Michael of Maple Grove; sisters, Marilyn Dahl of Rochester, and Cindy Kasel of Brooklyn Park; nephew, Jeremy of New Hope; sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, many nephews and nieces. Ron graduated from St. Charles High School in 1962 and worked as a design engineer in New Hope.
