Richard Rockstad
Funeral services for Richard A. 'Rocky' Rockstad, 74, Anoka, took place Jan. 13 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Greg Coop officiated.
Rockstad died Jan. 9, 2003 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital, St. Paul. He was born Feb. 9, 1928 in Minneapolis to Conrad A. and Nellie G. (Halvorson) Rockstad, and was the owner of a real estate company.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; sons, Richard 'Rocky' (Denna) Rockstad of Anoka; daughter, Yvonne (Mike) Chouinard of Anoka; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Vi (Bud) Nelson of Brooklyn Center; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Nellie Rockstad; and granddaughter, Kendahl Chouinard.
Pallbearers were Rocky and Jim Rockstad, Pat Kline, Buster Priest, Rich Ernst and Hank Sichak.
Interment was at West Oak Grove cemetery, Oak Grove. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Betty Schlaman
Funeral services for Betty L. Schlaman, 61, St. Francis, took place Jan. 13 at Elim Baptist Church. Revs. Robert E. Brunko and Orison Johnson officiated.
Schlaman died Jan. 9, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1941 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Leo B. and Vivian S. (Nassen) Oestreich.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest; children, Kari Schlaman-Huckell, Chet Schlaman and wife Teresa, Kristin Schlaman and Charles Schlaman; grandchildren, Cassandre, Tiffani, Ashlie, Makayla and Joshua; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Vivian Oestreich.
Pallbearers were Chet and Charles Schlaman, Wally Medin, Ron Alto, Ed Peterman and Ron Danielson.
Interment was at Forest Hill cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Dewayne Simmonds
Graveside services for Dewayne G. Simmonds, 85, Blaine, took place Jan. 14 at Glenwood cemetery, Mankato. Rev. Shirley Duncanson officiated.
Simmonds died Jan. 10, 2003. He was born June 8, 1917 to George and Bessie Simmonds and was a retired salesman.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; sons, Michael, Thomas and wife Denae; grandchildren, Jacob and Taylor; brother, Robert; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick.
Pallbearers were Len, Harlon, David and Dan McCargar, and Alan and Jack Just.
Interment was at Glenwood cemetery, Mankato. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Michael Springer
Funeral services for Michael B. Springer, 40, Champlin, took place Jan. 11 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Chapel, Anoka. Rev. Liane S. Rock officiated.
Springer died Jan. 8, 2003 at his home. He was born July 27, 1962 in Minneapolis to Cyrus M. and Doris M. (Miller) Springer and was a painter.
He is survived by his mother, Doris of Champlin; brother, Jim of Brooklyn Park; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cyrus.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Jerome Thell
Funeral services for Jerome Peter Thell, 63, Andover, took place Jan. 13 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Michael Van Sloun officiated.
Thell died Jan. 9, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. He was born July 13, 1939 in Freeport to John and Adella O. (Notch) Thell. He owned Jerry Thell Builders and co-owned Thell Concrete and Masonry.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Julienne, Tamara, Wendelyn (Joe); son, Stephen (Michelle); grandson, Christopher; granddaughters, Alexandra, Olivia and Sophie; newborn grandson, Nicholas; mother, Adella Thell; sisters, Eunice Oswald and Carol (Ralph) Berenger; and brothers, Gerald (Sally), Linus (Mary) and Charles (Pat).
He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Mary Catherine; and father, John Thell.
Pallbearers were John, Linus Jr., and Anthony Thell, Glenn, Chad and Ronald Heinen, Shelly Farris, Robert Boeckermann, Norman Michels, and Jamie Schmit.
Interment was at Calvary cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Joan Blake
Funeral services for Joan M. Blake, 63, Ham Lake, took place Jan. 16 at Peace Lutheran Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Kenneth DeFor Jr., officiated.
Blake died Jan. 13, 2003 at Mercy Hospital. She was born March 11, 1939 in Minneapolis to Edward J. Kohanek and Gladys M. Smith.
She is survived by her husband Orrie; children, Jill (Don) Caperoon, Joel (Kris), Jon (Elaine), Paul (Sally), Todd (Becki); grandchildren, Leigh, Kurt, Chad, Danielle, Kori, Catherine, Stephanie; and great-grandson, Josiah.
Arrangements were by Methven-Taylor Funeral Home. Blaine Chapel.
Ada Davis
Funeral services for Ada E. Davis, 89, Champlin, took place Jan. 17 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Elm Creek Chapel, Brooklyn Park.
Davis died Jan. 13, 2003 at North Ridge Care Center, New Hope. She was born July 12, 1913 in Rapidan to Charles L. and Mary V. (Averill) Bedbury.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Muriel) Davis of Pequot Lakes, Wayne (Kayla) Davis of Maple Grove; daughters, Maxine (Robert) Hayes of Milaca, Linda (Bard) Kallestad of Oak Grove; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Paul Hackbarth
Funeral services for Paul J. Hackbarth 'Clancy,' 46, Brooklyn Park, took place Jan. 17, 2003 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Brooklyn Center. Rev. Martin Stillmeck officiated.
Hackbarth died in Rockford, Ill. He was born Dec. 8, 1956 in Minneapolis to Harold P. Hackbarth and Mary Egan and was a machinist at Hoffman Engineering.
He is survived by his sons, Paul, Jeremy, Michael, Ryan; daughter, Nichole; mother, Mary; grandchildren, Alexis, Jeremy, Valerie, Jordan; brothers, Darrell, Tom, Edward; sisters, Darlene, Susan, Mary; and godchild, Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.
Pallbearers were Paul, Jeremy, Michael, Ryan, Tom and Edward Hackbarth.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Lois Johnson
Funeral services for Lois V. Johnson, 93, St. Francis, took place Jan. 18 at St. Francis United Methodist Church. Rev. Rhodel Jacobson officiated.
Johnson died Jan. 15, 2003 at Elim Home, Princeton. She was born July 24, 1909 in Champlin to James E. Gaslin and Lela B. Bird, and was a retired secretary to the superintendent of St. Francis School District 15.
She is survived by her son, Floyd and wife JoAnne Johnson; daughter, Myrtice and husband, Paul Hanson; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Hazel Wyatt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; and brother, Merle Gaslin.
Pallbearers were Debbie Knight, Sherry Brabant, Denise Burns, Robyn Bayerl, Andrea Johnson, Nicole Meyer, Jeff, Tim and Steve Hanson, and Pam Anderson.
Interment was at West Oak Grove cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Orison Johnson
Funeral services for Rev. Orison B. Johnson, 84, Elk River, formerly of Anoka, took place Jan. 20 at Elim Baptist Church, Anoka. Rev. Robert Brunko officiated.
Johnson died at Mercy Hospital Jan. 16, 2003. He was born March 23, 1918 in Aurelia, Iowa, to Earl W. and Pearl V. (Dyslin) Johnson. He was retired from Federal Cartridge after 33 years and was visitation pastor from Elim Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Judith Damerow, Mark Johnson and wife Jan, Ruth Vanek and husband Ken, Daniel Johnson and wife Barbara, Lisa Mjos and husband Ron; stepchildren, Gary Dehn, Cheryl O'Connor, Cathy Baillargeon; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Burch Johnson; sisters, Mabel (Don) Braband, Mildred (Arnold) Garbers; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; parents, Earl and Pearl Johnson; brother, Lester; and an infant brother.
Pallbearer were Curt and Ken Dehn, Ben Hovet, Andy and Joey Johnson and Jessica Mjos.
