Leo N. Jacobs

Leo N. Jacobs was born in St. Martin, Stearns County, MN, on April 11, 1925, to Michael and Theresia (Utsch) Jacobs. He grew up and went to a country school in Spring Hill, MN.

Leo farmed with his family until 1940, when they moved to Melrose, MN, where he was employed by Kraft Foods. He left Melrose for a job with Western Union in Minneapolis, MN, where he met his future wife, Doris Gervais. They were married on May 7, 1949 at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Moorhead, MN.

Leo worked for Cass Clay Creamery in Moorhead while studying for his degree from DeVry Technical Institute of Chicago, IL. He graduated in 1960 as a Television Electronics Technician.

Leo was employed for eight years by Daveau Music Company in Fargo, ND, as a TV repairman. He then worked for Arvid Benson of Moorhead for ten years as service manager and subsequently as service manager for Dakota Food Equipment of Fargo. He retired in 1987, after which he worked part time for Tri-State Auction of Fargo.

Leo died Friday, July 22, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at eighty years of age.

Leo is survived by his wife Doris, Moorhead; six sons, Michael (Patricia), Corona CA, Gregory (Deborah), Detroit Lakes, MN, Rodney (Laura), Fargo, James (Sherry) Fargo, Mark, Moorhead, and Robert (Patricia), U.S. Army, Korea; and one daughter, Mary (Timothy) Sanger, Grand Forks ND; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Janssen and Gertrude Kalthoff, both Richmond, MN; and one sister in law, Helen Jacobs, Melrose. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Leo was a member of the third and fourth degree Knights of Columbus where he served as Faithful Navigator for two years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.

Visitation for Leo will be Monday, July 25, 2005, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. The funeral mass will be at the church Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at 11 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.

Marjorie "Marge" Isaman

Marjorie “Marge” Elinor Isaman of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home with her family after a short battle with cancer on March 19, 2005. She was 79 years old.

Marge was born to Amelia and Delos Miller at home in Dilworth, Minnesota, on April 17, 1925. She graduated from Dilworth High School in the class of 1944.

Marge married Donald Isaman, also of Dilworth, on July 5, 1947. They lived their lives within a 60-mile radius of Fargo-Moorhead while raising four children.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Kenneth; and a sister, Deloris.

Marge worked at the family grocery store and Cully’s during her family’s years in Dilworth and later at the Pelican Rapids Good Samaritan Center following her husband’s death. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In later years, she traveled to California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, and Washington to visit friends and family.

Marge is survived by two sons, Bob and Trisha Isaman of University Place, Washington, and Richard and Susan Isaman of Pelican Rapids; two daughters, Mary Marshall of Reno, Nevada, and Donna and Dennis Hanson of Pelican Rapids. Marge had fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at 2 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Harley M.C. Howland

We are saddened to announce the passing of Harley Howland on October 18, 2005, at the age of 89. His family and his many friends will miss his gruff wit and generous nature. Mr. Howland was preceded in death by his parents, Wiener and Mathilda Howland; his beloved wife, Berenice; his infant son, Rodger; and his sister, Carol. He is survived by son, Harley Jr. and wife Carolyn, and their two sons, Harley III and Cindy; Daniel and Kristina (daughter, Sofia). Son, David and wife Kitty, and their three daughters, Jennifer Howland (children, Kayla, Brandon, and Nathan); Becky and Curt Maki (children, Hannah and Charlie); Laura and Kevin Gullikson (children, Andrew and Noah). He is also survived by two brothers, Morris (Alice) and Duaine; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Howland was born December 14, 1915, in Nielsville, MN. He married Berenice Sheridan on October 12, 1939, in Shelly, MN. They lived in Nielsville, Georgetown, and Erskine, MN, where Mr. Howland worked in the grain elevator business. In 1953, the couple moved to Moorhead, MN, and Mr. Howland became a line superintendent for Farmers Union Grain Terminal Association. In 1977, he retired from GTA, and started his own business repairing antique clocks and building grandfather clocks, which he continued until June of this year. He also enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, traveling, gardening, and maintaining his reputation as a “stubborn Norwegian”. Mr. Howland was a member of the Lutheran Church of Christ the King.

The family would like to thank the staff of Eventide Lutheran Home for their exceptional care and personal attention during his illness.

Visitation: Friday (October 21, 2005) from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Saturday (October 22, 2005) at 11 AM at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead

Burial: Saturday at 3:30 PM at St. Petri Cemetery, Nielsville.

Clarice E. Hoime

Clarice E. Hoime, 94, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005, in Moorhead Healthcare Center, Moorhead.

Clarice Elvida Hoime was born September 18, 1910, in Holy Cross Township, Clay County, MN, to Carl and Mary (Benson) Taasaas. Clarice was raised in the Comstock area where she graduated from high school. In high school, Clarice played on the women’s softball team.

Clarice was married to Edwin Hoime in 1929, and they lived and farmed the family land near Comstock. Edwin died in 1982 and Clarice continued to live on the farm. She eventually moved into Moorhead and entered Moorhead HealthCare Center in August of 2003.

Clarice is survived by a son, Carl (Patricia), Moorhead; one grandson, Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Tiffany.

Memorial Service: Monday, August 8, 2005; 2 PM, in Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock, MN.

Inurnment: Comstock East Cemetery.

Agnes Hogenson

Agnes Mykleby was born September 8, 1904, to Ole and Kristine (Locken) Mykleby, in Polk County, near Winger, MN. Agnes was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

When Agnes was eight months of age, the family moved to White Earth, ND, where they homesteaded. They returned to the Winger area in 1914 and lived on a farm two miles west of Winger.

Agnes married Theodore Hogenson, in Fertile, MN, on June 11, 1931, and they continued to make their home on the farm. Ted died in 1943, and Agnes remained on the farm until 1950, when she moved to McIntosh, MN, where she worked at Sunset Home.

Agnes worked for the school in McIntosh for one year and then owned and operated her own restaurant from 1956 to 1958. She moved to Bathgate, ND, in 1958 and worked at the School for the Blind. In 1961, Agnes moved to Grand Forks, ND, where she continued to work for the School for the Blind.

She retired in 1969 and moved to Twin Valley, MN, in 1971. She lived there until 1983, when she moved to Moorhead, MN. With her family by her side, Agnes died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, at one hundred years of age.

Agnes is survived by her two sons, Gordon (Sonja), Halstad, MN, and Karsten (Ellen), Silver Bay, MN; ten grandchildren: James (Joy), Mark, Connie, Daniel (Jennifer), Philip (Karmell), Steven (Kathy) and Erika Hogenson, Kathy (Rory) Skramstad, Elisabeth (Rick) Revoir and Victoria (Kelly) Strauser; twenty-one great-grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, Jewl, Jazmyn, Andrew, Kristi, Erik, Brett, Latham, Ciara and Skyler Hogenson, Kristina Rage, Dereck, Jessica and Ashley Mooney, Emily, Hunter and Austin Skramstad, and Ryan, Sara and Sophia Revoir; and one great-great-grandchild, Nathan Rage. In addition to her husband, Agnes was preceded in death by three brothers.

Visitation: one hour before the funeral.

Funeral: Saturday, January 8, 2005 - 2 PM Bottolfson Chapel; Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead

Interment: Faaberg Lutheran Church Cemetery Rindal, MN

Marlowe W. Hiller

Marlowe William Hiller was born January 19, 1947, in Fargo, ND, to Elmer and Lillian (Ellingson) Hiller. Marlowe was raised in rural Perley, MN, and attended high school in Borup, MN.

Marlowe worked in Environmental Services at MeritCare Hospital, South University campus. With his family by his side, Marlowe died Saturday, June 11, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at fifty-eight years of age.

Marlowe is lovingly survived by his mother, Lillian Anderson, Moorhead; two brothers, Ron (Linda) Hiller, Perley, and Larry (Kristy) Hiller, Morrison, CO; three sisters, Susan Anderson, Perley, Sheree (Mike) Breckel, McIntosh, MN, and Shelly Anderson, Minneapolis, MN; five nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his father, Marlowe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martin and Minnie Ellingson, and William and Marie Hiller; and a nephew, Christopher Breckel.

Visitation for Marlowe will be Tuesday, June 14, 2005, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral will be Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Chapel. Burial will be held in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, rural Perley.

Bennie Haugen

Bennie Haugen, the son of Peter and Annie (Bratlie) Haugen, was born on the family farm near Audubon, MN, on Nov. 1, 1920. He grew up and received his education in the Audubon area. He farmed there for a number of years.

On May 14, 1954, Bennie married Ruth Halgrimson. They lived on the family farm at rural Audubon. In 1960, they moved into Detroit Lakes, MN, to live. In about 1966, they moved to Washington state and later to California, where they lived until 1977, when they returned to Detroit Lakes. His declining eyesight, he was legally blind, forced him into early retirement.

On June 4, 1995, Bennie was united in marriage to Helen Sorenson Nyquist, at Dilworth, MN, where they made their home.

Bennie is survived by his wife, Helen, of Dilworth; five step-children, Syvert Halgrimson, Pueblo, CO, Eugene Halgrimson, Joshua Tree, CA, Roslie (Donald) Schroeder, Detroit Lakes, Diane (Bernard) Wateland, Moorhead, and Judy (Michael) Caldwell, St. Anthony, MN; 14 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.

Bennie Haugen, age 85, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Innovis Health in Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.

Visitation: Monday, 5 PM until 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Prayer Service: Monday at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at 1:00 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN.

Burial: Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 at 3:30 PM, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon, MN.
