Ruth Segler, 89
Ruth Ann Segler, age 89 of Big Lake, Minnesota, formerly of Waverly, passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 27, 2015.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 5, 2015, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Church of Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, 440 Lake Street North, Big Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Gene Doyle officiating. Interment will be at Waverly Cemetery of Waverly.
Ruth was born on July 7, 1926, in Glencoe, Minnesota, to Gerald and Anna Marie (Coenen) Edwards. She grew up in Glencoe and lived in Hopkins, Excelsior, Zimmerman, Waverly, and Big Lake since 2000. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Segler in 1945. She worked at Minneapolis Moline for a short time after her marriage, but was a homemaker and a loving, patient mother for most of her life. She was also a great cook.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Gerald and Anna Marie Edwards; husband, Kenneth; grandson, James Joseph Segler; brother, Bud Edwards; and several half-brothers and sisters.
Ruth is survived by: her children, Roger of Big Lake, Richard (Ellen) of Bemidji, Robert of Big Lake, Dale (Sandy) of Montrose, Randy (Brenda) of Montrose, Gary of Montrose, Mark of Waverly, Diane Segler of Port Orange, Florida, Trudy Lambert of Montrose, Cathy (Clayton) Poirier of Buffalo, Nancy Casey of Pierz, and Ann Larson of Maple Plain; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and twin sister, Rose Mary Habisch of Big Lake.
Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
William Stewart, 79
William “Bill” R. Stewart was born on Dec. 27, 1935, and he passed away on June 22, 2015. Bill and his brother, Tom, owned and operated Royalton Heating and Cooling in Brooklyn Park, and the two farmed soybeans on the side.
In retirement, Bill collected and restored all makes and models of tractors. He enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his wife, Phyllis, both on bus tours and in their own car.
William is preceded in death by: his parents, William and Frances (Blowers) Stewart; sister, Nancy (Chester) Anhorn; nephews, Brent Stewart and Joshua Anderson; and sister-in-law, Deloris Tengwall.
He will be missed by: his best friend and wife of 30 years, Phyllis; brothers, Tom (Laura) Stewart and Dan (Pat) Stewart; sisters, Judy (Dave) Cyr and Liane (Matt) Keane; brothers-in-law, Arlan Tengwall and Wendell (Kitty) Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral service was scheduled on Monday, June 29, with visitation an hour prior, at Salem Covenant Church, Pennock, Minn., and burial in the church cemetery. Visitation with prayer service was scheduled on Sunday, June 28 at the Peterson Funeral Chapel in Buffalo.

LaDonna Zachman, 84
LaDonna M. Zachman, 84, of St. Michael died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Legacy in St. Michael.
She was born on Dec. 2, 1930 in Fletcher, Minn. the daughter of Joseph and Mathilda Fehn Fricke.
One June 13, 1950, LaDonna M. Fricke and Lowell J. Zachman were joined in holy marriage at the Church of St. Walburga in Fletcher. God blessed their marriage with six children: Bonnie, Kathy, Cindy, Jerry, Vince, and Sandy.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, gardening, and entertaining. She was a longtime St. Michael businesswoman, having owned and operated the Corner Bar with her husband, Lowell.
LaDonna was a faithful member of the Church of St. Michael in St. Michael.
Survived by: loving children, Bonnie (Donny) Eicher and Kathy (Butch) Marquette, all of St. Michael, Cindy (Tom) Uselmann of South Haven, Jerry (Roxann) Zachman and Vince (Brenda) Zachman, all of St. Michael, and Sandy (Rudy) Doboszenski of Loretto; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Celestine Fricke of New Hope; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Fricke of Fletcher and Tish Dick of St. Michael; and other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by husband, Lowell J. Zachman, three sisters and two brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial for LaDonna Zachman was held on Friday, June 26, 11 a.m., at the Church of St. Michael. Visitation took place on Thursday, June 25, 4-8 p.m., at the church.
Casket bearers were: Jamie Augustine, Greta Uselmann, Whitney Zachman, Kalsey Rheingans, Becky Oberle, Alyssa Heinz, and Shelby Martinson.
A special thank-you to the staff at the Legacy of St. Michael, especially the memory care unit.

Karen Hickel, 66
Karen L. Hickel, age 66 of Delano, died on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at her home in Delano. She was born June 30, 1944 to Clarence and Viola (Scharvono) Nelson in Minneapolis.
Karen is survived by her husband William; a daughter Shelly Baker; and sister Linda Nelson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Visitation will take place for 1 hour prior to services on Friday.

R.A. 'Tony' Krier, 73
R. A. "Tony" Krier, 73, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Park View Care Center in Buffalo.
Tony was born June 29, 1937 in Morton, Minn., the son of Frank and Anna (Welter) Krier.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant after more than 20 years of service. He then worked for Ashland Oil, and after retiring for the second time sold everything and lived in a camper for several years traveling with his wife, Susan, until she passed away July 10, 1999. They lived in Raymondville, Texas during the winter and enjoyed being a winter Texan. They spent their summers in Otsego, Minn.
Tony is survived by: his children, Marie (Dave) Theis, Michael (Janine) Krier, Bonnie (Gary) Fettig, Ron (Heather) Krier, and Jeffrey (Amy) Krier; grandchildren, Andrew, Allison, Joshua, Steven, Zach, Tessa, Bryan, Brianna, and Hailey; brother, Sylvester (Virginia) Krier; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Susan Kay (Higgins) Krier; parents, Frank and Anna (Welter) Krier; daughter, Elizabeth Krier; grandson, Matthew James Krier; brothers, James Krier and Donald (Barbara Anne) Krier; and mother and father-in-Law, James and Genevieve Higgins.
Mass took place 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment followed in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael/Albertville assisted the family with arrangements.
Michael McKown, 56
Michael Patrick McKown, 56, of Watertown died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born March 23, 1955 to Gerard and Mary (Carrigan) McKown in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
Michael was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. He enjoyed fishing but most of all driving his taxi and meeting new people.
Michael is survived by: his children, Dawn, Michael Jr., Robert Michael, and Maisy; grandchildren, Nathanial McKown and Aubrey Sheridan, Robert, Isaih, and Jazmine Schofield; and life companion, Peggy Larson.
Private family services have been held.

Dorothy Miller, 93
Dorothy Grace Miller, 93, of Belle Plaine, Minn. died on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at her home in Belle Plaine.
She was born March 31, 1918 to Franklin and Grace (Tripp) Heitkamp in Worthington, Minn.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Plaine for over 60 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was employed at the Women's Correctional Prison for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Johan; daughter, Carol Buesgens; a grandchild, Scott Buesgens; parents, Frank and Grace Heitkamp; and siblings, Kathryn Carstensen, Lois Garrison, Ruth Jeddeloh, JoAnn Linde, and Louis Heitkamp. She is survived by: her children, Lynette (Erv) Heitkamp, Johan (Pat) Miller and Joan (Maynard) Schultz; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bill Buesgens; and siblings, Adele Olson, Douglas (Blanche) Heitkamp, Jack (Joyce) Heitkamp, and Beth Wentland.
Funeral services took place on Monday, May 16, 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Plaine. Visitation was in the church two hours prior to the services. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Belle Plaine.

Eva Newlin, 87
Eva Jean Newlin, 87, of Cokato, formerly of Peoria and Morton, Ill., died at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Cokato Manor Care Center.
She was born Feb. 22, 1924 in Watseka, Ill. to Louis and Mary (Frank) Freidinger. She married Wayne Newlin on Feb. 1, 1944 in Cissna Park, Ill. They were married 58 years. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2002. She also was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are: two daughters, Norma (Philip) Geoffrion of Cokato, and Janet (Roger) Burgess of Wheaton, Ill.; one son, David (Becky) Newlin of Carol Stream, Ill.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lou Conlin of Watseka, Ill.
Eva attended Illinois State University in Normal, where she received a provisional teaching certificate after three semesters of course work, due to a great need for teachers during World War II. Her first teaching job was in Sandwich, Ill. In the years that followed, Eva taught in a variety of schools, sharing the education profession with her husband and other extended family members including her two daughters and several grandchildren.
After 15 years of teaching, Eva completed her bachelor of science degree in Education at Illinois State University. She taught almost three decades on a variety of levels from kindergarten through junior high and in many different places in Illinois, including Watseka, Peoria, Springfield, and Pekin.
Very meaningful to Eva was teaching in a variety of women's Bible studies, both in Springfield and Peoria. The highlight for her was the opportunity to begin Community Bible Study in the Peoria area. Eva was the teaching director for the class from 1984 to 1989.
She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where she was an active worker in Sunday school, Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School and other ministries of the church. In the last five years, she attended Albion Evangelical Free Church near Cokato, where her son-in-law, Philip, serves as pastor.
Visitation took place from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, May 16 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, followed by services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Philip A. Geoffrion officiating. Burial was at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.
